Closed due to excessive interest.

QFT.

Another typical swing of Atlas's. "Today I feel like being normal so I'll erase yesterday's mistakes....and then make bigger one's tomorrow. Weeeeee!"

Wasn't Atlas, and all his many split personalities already banned for life?

And, in related news, Idi Amin, Ted Kennedy and Mikahil Bakhunin are all still dead.

Yes, he was. He was permabanned for obnoxiously trying to bribe Theymos.

He's evading his ban and pretending to be a noble person instead of the tortured, handicapped person he is.

The interesting thing about Atlas is that he hasn't yet learned how to draw support for groups. He doesn't know that if he would come to us with a "I realize my mistakes and I want to know if I'm bothering anyone or not" humble angle, we'd all probably embrace him. Instead, he comes wearing a halo and pretending to be Christ on earth, telling us that it's alright if we don't follow him because it's our eternal damnation, not his.

hey, it worked for charles manson
1042  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Separating Bitcoin's Legitimate Business's on: March 04, 2012, 10:39:58 PM
as someone said earlier in the thread "Trust No One" is the best policy

but when trust is something that must be extended - really the best metric we have for trust in the Bitcoin world right now (other than the otc system which is cumbersome for many users) is the way our forum has evolved into a reputation system.

to me if a bitcoin business has absolutely no real ties to a real person on this forum its a major red flag
(case in point - Bitscalper)

1044  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoins no longer accepted @ BFL / ordering BFL single / no customer service on: March 04, 2012, 07:13:01 PM
I've been communicating with the guys over at butterflylabs lately alot. They seem very quick on the replies to me atleast, might just be the guy im mailing.

What worries me is the extreme delivery times, 15 weeks for the rig box Sad

talking to Sonny? Funny how they are answering emails quick for people interested in spending $30k but dont have time for people who have already spent $600

naa that does not sound suspicious at all does it... naaa  Undecided
1045  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BitInstant has ties to the Rothschild banking family it seems... on: March 04, 2012, 01:03:42 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=67199.msg782294#msg782294

Yankee claims he is of Rothschild descent. The Rothschild's are known for conquering the banking industry, centralizing and dismantling competition in various industries. The London Rothschild Bank is even known to have some influence over the American Federal Reserve system.

http://www.rothschild.com/our_history/

Now, if this is true, do you think it's in Bitcoin's interest to be involved with such big banking interests?

Stay wary, my friends.

Congratulations! You're an idiot!

1047  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoins no longer accepted @ BFL / ordering BFL single / no customer service on: March 04, 2012, 12:03:25 AM
it makes no sense at all. If they were really doing so much business they would  hire someone to handle customer service - I mean seriously, something is really wrong there,  I dont know what it is but something is wrong there - and anyone who denies that is just well, in denial.
1048  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 03, 2012, 10:22:11 PM
tuxavant you got a copy of the code handy? I assume this is done with some kind of combination of php and apache rewrite rules?

1049  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 03, 2012, 02:57:07 PM

1050  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANNOUNCE] View .BIT Domains without any DNS Modifications or Special Software on: March 03, 2012, 01:54:03 PM

Am I doing something wrong ? I seem just to get a fma.com advertisement with 'we're changing the face of the internet landscape'.  I tried to input several domain names at http://www.bitviewer.net, like http://www.microsoft.bit, http://www.wikileaks.bit etc, but just got the add. Could anyone provide me with a sample bit-adress so I could see how this service works ? Thanks.

.bit enabled websites

http://bluishcoder.bit (IP)
http://bitcointorrentz.bit (IP)
http://bitcoinX.bit (IP)
http://dot-bit.bit
http://gee.bit (.bit search engine) (IP)
http://kirk.bit (IP)
http://superkuh.bit (IP)
http://wikileaks.bit
http://explorer.bit
http://dns.bit
http://register.bit

.bit redirections

http://thepiratebay.bit
http://bitcoin.bit

There may be more out there but those are the only ones I know of. I think the DNS server redirects any .bit domains that do not work to fma.com

thanks for speaking out about this Matt, I agree with you completely.

1053  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoins no longer accepted @ BFL / ordering BFL single / no customer service on: March 03, 2012, 02:39:38 AM
something is not right here. Supposedly they are working day and night to make shipments happen , to the extent that they have completely abandoned all customer service, yet there are people who have been waiting well over two months that cant get shipping confirmation or even response to email. I placed an order over a week ago (with dwolla) and cant get a response. I have a friend who ordered two of them on the same day and paid with paypal and although they took his money from his paypal account has not even received an order confirmation email.

Goat, would you mind posting a list here of the known people who have received the BFL?

thanks.

1056  Other / Off-topic / Re: FLAC share and FREE mp3 downloads on CoinConnect on: March 02, 2012, 09:10:10 PM
you can upload mp3 as long as they are not copyrighted works without permission, if they are they will get deleted. The server is hosted in the US and we will get sued so fast it will make your head spin. RIAA has a lot of power in our federal government, this is the country where billionaire record companies sue 13 year old girls for downloading torrents and charge them with damages in the 100s of thousands of dollars.

I would love to allow you to share music with your buddies but hosting copyrighted material is a huge liability and we cant do it at CoinConnect

thanks

1057  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoins no longer accepted @ BFL / ordering BFL single / no customer service on: March 02, 2012, 12:12:15 PM

1059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica lost 43,554 BTC from Linode compromise, suspicious TXIDs publicized on: March 02, 2012, 04:49:28 AM
and again +200k to the op for being a man and taking care of this in a responsible way, im just trying to bring awareness on how we can secure bitcoin for the future. I have only like 80 bitcoins in my wallet right now but you can damn well better believe it is in encrypted with a completely uncrackable password.
1060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica lost 43,554 BTC from Linode compromise, suspicious TXIDs publicized on: March 02, 2012, 04:47:37 AM
i mean seriously, could not this whole thing been prevented if the wallet was just encrypted?

Obviously the software running against the hot wallet has to have access to it. This means that if someone roots the server, they'll be able to have the same access to the hot wallet. Encryption would not have entered into it.

Zhou, good on you for covering this! I'm having a hard enough time covering the BTCinch theft; I can only imagine how pissed you are at linode.

In this case, encryption would have protected the wallet because the attacker was only able to get root access after a reboot.
why would a reboot stop the attacker from seeing the wallet being unencrypted during the next use?
You have to enter the wallet password/passphrase after rebooting/restarting bitcoin.
am i missing something here? wouldn't that entry be exactly what the attacker would be waiting for?
Pretty sure such a random suspicious reboot would cause the poolop to review the server before entering any creds anywhere. Especially when his Linode access manager says that there was a login to his account a few minutes before, not caused by him.
+1, the idea that this hacker is sitting here watching a packet sniffer or a keylogger and the admin of the server with an encrypted wallet holding $200k+ is not going to think something suspicions is preposterous

it would take multiple fails for this scenario to be successful and the bottom line is an encrypted wallet would likely have saved this money. The problem is these web applications have not been developed to the level where they are able to interact with encrypted wallets. point blank.
