2061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Full Blown MtGox Audit - Get Ready To participate. Starting Sept 25th on: September 12, 2011, 04:00:04 PM
An audit is not that unreasonable... I write payroll processing software for a living, and my customers demand audits.

This sort of audit is something I have to pay for.  But of course it makes my services more attractive, so it's a worthwhile investment.

Generally the way it works is an auditor flies in and does his thing, asks for records, asks to inspect certain things, and asks for statements on what controls are in place.  His product is a written opinion as to whether or not we're properly implementing the controls we say we're implementing, as well as a description of what those controls are.  Ours comes out to like 50 pages.  His product is called a "SAS 70 Type II audit".  The auditor has to be a CPA.

Want to put a burr under MtGox?  Persuade his competition to get and publish a SAS 70 type II or equivalent.  They cost maybe $10-$25k to get.  I can offer referrals.

That is the most logical and by far the most effective proposition I have yet to hear on dealing with the latest MTGox accusations.

To respond to the OP, it is preposterous to think that every single person who has money in MTGox is going to withdraw it for 2 weeks. It makes zero sense and it would never happen.

I think MTGox should get a SAS 70 Type II audit, it would do wonders for their business and to boost the legitimacy of Bitcoin to the world.

thank you for that.
2062  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Contributors-only forum. on: September 12, 2011, 03:55:18 PM
cablepair, I am not offended in a any way Smiley

But I don't want people to feel that I am working on this forum out of what you call "superiority disease".

I want Bitcoin to succeed and I want it to be open.

But a) this forum became unusable, b) there are many professional guilds and foundations that limit members by a certain criteria.

I don't think it's fair to accuse them all in doing it only to feel "superior" to "regular" people.

that sounds very nice, and I hope it ends up that way, but by the way some of the posts in your thread sound it is for some people more about getting out the riff raff then creating a guild of Bitcoin contributors.

in any case I started my own thread on the subject and I thank you. Good luck with your forum.
2063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 03:51:46 PM

This is a real problem in the Bitcoin community that I feel needs to be discussed.

I remember when I first found out about Bitcoin, it was just early spring time this year, right before Bitcoin hit the big time. Bitcoin was worth 0.85 USD, and the difficulty was so low that my first day mining with a GPU I mined 8 coins with a single 5870 that wasn't even overclocked (ahh the good old days) Smiley

The Bitcoin forums at that time were a completely different environment. There was a real sense of openness and adventure. People welcome each others ideas. Free thought was encouraged! It was an exciting time.

I know this sounds like I am reminiscing about the good old days but this was only like six months ago! I don't know what happened!?

There is no openess, there is no encouragement. Free thought!? You better keep it to yourself man.

You have got this superiority disease that seems to have infected nearly everyone - these Elitist Super geeks who think they are smarter than anyone, sitting up on their high horses and looking down at everyone. Trying to find new ways to exclude people and new ways to put them selves up on a pedestal

Then you have the trolls. Searching and Searching for an idea to squash, for some confidence to extinguish. is it Attack or be attacked? You really do not make yourself look better by putting down others. This bully mentality is disgusting.

On top of that you have the Pool Hop generation. The guys who have an entitlement complex.  The resentful Bitcoin youth that jumped on the band wagon when BTC was trading for $30 USD and now want to take every crumb that isnt nailed down. Listen fellas the Bitcoin world does not owe you anything.

I sympathize with the Bitcoin forum Mods and Admins I really do, you have a very hard job trying to keep this place under control, but as this forum is basically the epicenter of the Bitcoin world I do not agree with the newbie system. I think that we need to include as many people from outside as possible and not exclude them just because they got here late. I understand why we have this system and the purpose it is supposed to be serving is good but I personally believe it does more hard to Bitcoin than good.

Bitcoin is Closed! - For most people this is what they think and feel, the people who are first hearing about Bitcoin today, and they come to the forums and start looking around , that banner "Bitcoin is closed" this is how they feel and its hurting Bitcoin as a whole.

Thank you for your time in reading this, and if I offended you I am sorry. I love Bitcoin, I truly do and like many of you I have a lot of time, and money invested and I really want to see Bitcoin succeed. This thread was created to get people thinking about the good of Bitcoin and the good in themselves.

I happily invite all input, but please use good judgement and answer as the mature adult you are, I do now want this to turn into an argument.
2064  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Contributors-only forum. on: September 12, 2011, 03:16:44 PM
if you feel its worthy to bash please do. And I am sorry to put down your idea specifically it honestly has nothing to do with competition certainly, we are talking about different things.

In all truth this is a subject I feel passionate about, and I why I created the "social network thingy" you were talking about, We really need to make Bitcoin open to the world. This is what is necessary to succeed yet there is this terrible superiority disease that seems to have infected everyone.

I do want to bring awareness of this, but I do not want to bash your idea personally so I will remove my comment and post a main thread on this topic instead. Sorry to have offended you that was not my intention.

2068  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner, GPU overclock+monitor+fanspeed in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 11, 2011, 07:03:33 PM
damn, this software sucks balls... guiminer FTW !!!!!

are you serious dude?

Guiminer is crap compared to cgminer

I have been mining since BTC was worth 0.85 USD

I have 10 GPU's and have tried Every single miner that is publicly available.

CGMINER is BY FAR the best mining software in my opinion.

well it's pretty obvious to anyone who takes a look at your pathetic site why it is failing. So I am not going to waste my time pointing it out, as a online business your site is a joke and your a clown.

Do you really think its ethical to disable someone's account solely based on the fact that you don't like them? or that they said something you don't like?

Wow so this is what Bitcoin is about, its not about freedom at all.

You better watch what you say guys! If you piss off the wrong person your not allowed to use their sites! Damn when did Bitcoin start to feel like a dictatorship?

You my friend are A PERFECT EXAMPLE of what is wrong with the Bitcoin world and why your average person feels completely alienated from and unwelcome in the Bitcoin community.

I tell you man, people are getting really sick of this Bitcoin elitist superiority complex disease that is going around. It's the reason forums are getting hacked and the reason values are low as ever.

I am glad you like the site. I did not code this site. I am using elgg, its a opensource social networking platform. Very customizable and cool.

I also checked out your site, and I really like your concept. Are you a programmer? Our sites could definitely benefit each other in many ways.

My main idea is to benefit Bitcoin by :

a) showcasing the Bitcoin community especially businesses
and
b) giving open and free way for people to join, get familiar with, and connect with the Bitcoin world.

I am looking for Bitcoin businesses to showcase as featured sponsers. So keep me in mind, and please PM me if there is anything I can do.
thanks!

update

The buyer is apparently working with these guys to get his money back

You can bet I wont be using this site anymore. You can say whatever you want Justin but businesses that treat their customers like this do not last, especially fragile bitcoin businesses.

good luck.
2079  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [solved] on: September 09, 2011, 12:39:46 PM
listen I am sorry for my "rudeness" but if you want to stay in business I suggest you not tell customers you will "cease to communicate with them further" because they say something you don't like.

Besides anyone would be super pissed.

Your auction site has hardly ANY business at all. In fact you stated yourself that "there was only one auction that sold that day"

and after I send you three emails, open up a support ticket and send you a PM on the forums
almost 3 days go buy
and FINALLY YOU RESPOND, KNOW WHAT HIS RESPONSE WAS?

Hello,

Please supply the auction number so we may investigate.

Regards,

Justin

_____________

of course I was super pissed, you could of easily just looked up the auction I was talking about, but instead you give me this bull crap line, just to delay things further.

you need to get off  your high horse and treat customers with at least enough respect to pay attention to their concerns especially since your doing such little business that my auction was the only one that sold on that day.

The problem to begin with was that your site has ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION AT ALL on how your site works, on what happens after a sale is made. There is nothing at all.

In fact your site recommends people use Clear Coin for transactions and Clear Coin does not even exist?

so here we are I completed a sale and your site has zero information on what to do next. The buyer sent his coins to an address that you provided him, with no instructions on what to do next!?

Now check this out. you say that it is our option to have you forward the coins to us. now why does it not give us any other option on your website?

If you dont want customers like me to get pissed off then please provide some kind of information on your site about how things work
dude your attitude is totally screwed up you act like we should be grateful to be customers of your site,

you really need to re-evaluate the way you do things if you want this site to succeed.
2080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Biddingpond.com - is this site dead? The admins are no where to be found. on: September 08, 2011, 07:10:21 PM
Well the guy sends the bitcoins to the address provided by Biddingpond - now they are supposed to forward the money to me
but this has not happened

Of course, it's equally feasible that they did send you the money and you've decided to just keep it, right?  Is it clear now why anonymous currencies will never catch on?

Excuse me but I have provided the address the btc was sent to and the block explorer link for the transaction ,  it's obvious that these funds have not been forwarded to me so please dont make accusations when you know absolutely nothing about what your saying
