2081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Philippines SEC warns against crypto investment. on: July 08, 2020, 09:13:59 PM
I think this is a completely normal warning to people from scams. In fact, many governments around the world are also warning people to be wary of cryptocurrency scams.
This warning does not indicate that the Philippine government is against or banning cryptocurrencies, they are only trying to protect people from scams.
The EU Central bank has issued similar statements on more than one occasion. I think there's nothing to worry about and it will not decrease adoption in the Philippines.

The banks are expected to warn people of investments that are risky and popular because people expect it and don't understand that some things are not yet regulated and cannot be stopped by the government. They think all investments come from companies that have to register with the authorities but it's not that simple with cryptocurrencies.
2082  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The advantage in being part of this forum on: July 08, 2020, 08:47:46 PM
The forum will help you to learn and avoid scams but you will have to spend a lot of time reading before you start investing.
Bitcopintalk is a vast mine full of knowledge and advice but you have to spend some time mining.

OP's friend was greedy like most newcommers who don't have time to learn and think they'll miss the opportunity if they don't start doing something with their money right now.
2083  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: NEW STYLE OF CAMPAIGN on: July 08, 2020, 08:30:55 PM
OP, a gap between posts is not a bad thing. We have spammers in this forum who tend to burst post that is post at very short intervals. This reduced the amount spreading of posts in between 24hours and probably that is the reason why some bounty managers dont accept burst posters.

Define burst posting. According to this campaign every poster who does more than 1 post in 4 hours is burst posting. I feel like this requirement was added on purpose to reject almost all candidates from the start.

They can have any requirements they want but we can criticize it. A 4 hour gap between posts is far too long and the reward is extremely low. It doesn't look like it's worth the wffort they require.
2084  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Do not participate in non reputed bounty managers campaign on: July 08, 2020, 08:13:19 PM
Some bounty managers are directly involved with scam projects.
Great to see a bought account telling people how to make the forum a better place and improve the bounty hunting experience for everyone Cheesy

The advice is good but as long as there's money to be made people will ignore all the warning signs and keep joining scam campaigns if not with main accounts then at least with their alts. Weren't you doing a similar thing with your alts?
2085  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is safe-haven, why mirror the price movement of the U.S stocks? on: July 08, 2020, 07:55:20 PM
It isn't a sfe haven as long as both Bitcoin and stocks are mainly bought and measured in USD value. We could see that when Trump closed borders in fear of covid both stocks and cryptocurrencies decreased in price and Bitcoin still did well compared to stocks.

Bitcoin stopped by itself and stocks had to be stopped by a Wall Street trading pause.
2086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They say hardware wallets are the safest on: July 07, 2020, 08:47:53 PM
The hardware wallet is the safest crypto wallet you can use out there because simply you are the one controlling your funds.

You control your funds on software wallets as well. This is not why a hardware wallet is better! It's better because your computer can be attacked by malware.

A clean and well maintained computer with a software wallet is almost as safe as a hardware wallet.

as you can see base on the past history and some statistical analysis, there are many cases of exchanges who got hack than the Hard wallet itself.
There are more cases of exchange hacks because there are 0 cases of hardware wallet hacks.

Hard wallets are hard for a reason. Cheesy
2087  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My hardware wallet was seized by US customs. on: July 07, 2020, 08:38:12 PM
I had things stolen from packages sent from EU to Australia and back. I haven't sent any contraband but still someone had opened my mail and took out some things that were more bulky than a standard piece of paper. I bet they were looking for jewelry.

They also like to check electronics because people have sent narcotics and stuff hidden in battery compartments of electronic devices.

If the wallet was new and they had some idea about the way it works they could have written down the seed and hope someone will ignore the broken seal and still deposit onto it.
2088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Scam Victim in need of help! on: July 07, 2020, 08:05:11 PM
I confirm that there are 2 possibilities an ATM operates and many people above have already told you that.

1.
It can make an address for you and display qr codes with public and private keys for this address. Then once you send money to that address the ATM will convert them into bitcoins and store it for you in the blockchain.
Having the qr code scanned or printed you can access your funds from any computer.

2. It can allow you to send coins to a speciffic address but in that case you have to enter the target address into the machine. In your case it would be the scammer's address.

Quote
But I didn't think, and in the heat of the moment, withdrew only $1k and I deposited the money into the bitcoin ATM.

You created a "wallet" using the ATM. It was yours until you gave it away to the scammer.

Quote
The machine told me to take a picture of the screen once i deposited my money, and i'm going to assume there was some important information on it like a bitcoin address for the transaction? I clearly wasn't looking either, and just took a picture of the QR code and sent it to the scammer's phone number.

Most likely it displayed this

https://www.athenabitcoin.com/news/2018/4/9/how-to-use-a-paper-wallet

Do you have a printed receipt from the machine? Look at the part where it says "public key"
Scan it and paste into the search field on this site https://blockchair.com/ You can also type it there.

Share the results with us. If there's a withdrawal it means the scammer took your money. If there are funds on the address you still might be able to get it back.
2089  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DO NOT TRUST TO TETHER on: July 07, 2020, 07:34:26 PM
https://i.imgur.com/D3uRI5b.png

it’s just a matter of time for Tether to overcome ETH.

I also don't like Tether and that's why I started using USD to trade bitcoin and ETH... after some time I switched all my USDT to USD because I'm afraid to wake up and realize that Tether disappeared due to some scandal involving government authority and to this day I wonder how the US governments have not yet asked if Tether has these reserves that he claims to have or is it not necessary that stablecoin have a license from central banks?

If we measure how fast USDt grows it will also overcome Bitcoin. It will happen because:

1. They have no boundaries. They can keep making as much usdt as they want.
2. They will have demand because USDt is used to buy all cryptocurrencies so it can technically have a market cap comparable to total market cap of all cryptocurrencies together.

At some point people will realize that those guys from Tether were giving them fresh made usdt in exchange for their cryptos that they were hoarding. Then they go bankrupt all usdt will lose value and they will exit with all those cryptocurrencies and all that people have on bitfinex. Good game!
2090  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What PayPal's Entry Into Crypto Means For Users on: July 07, 2020, 06:57:47 PM
Still its just a rumour or PayPal officially announced their crypto adoption? If paypal is going to accept cryptos then surely price of cryptos will be bullish for short term and more new people will be introduced to cryptos with PayPal's advertisement.

Anyway wait for the official statement until that it is all about speculation.

It's a rumor but they have not denied it:

Quote
PayPal declined to comment on the rumors
This is the info from 22.06. Maybe there was a confirmation by now but I haven't read anything like that.

They can still deny it or change their minds about it. If the news is true it's going to be great for crypto.
2091  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Back then and Now, lesson learnt on: July 07, 2020, 06:46:04 PM
This is normal that you need to invest a lot of money to be able to gain money from it.

When a coin is easily mined it means there's no competition between miners and the network is very small. Don't expect cheap coin to do wonders for you.

2092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does bitcoin need an addition of a safety feature? User friendly? on: July 07, 2020, 06:27:31 PM
And I think joining bitcoin has more advantage than stock market where it will allow one to earn instantly knowing also the high risk.

Tell that to people who bought Bitcoin in 2017 Wink

Bitcoin doesn'tr allow you to earn instantly. It's not something you buy and "earn money". If you bought Bitcoin in June at 10 thousand you'd be at -800 USD today. Istn't it a great earning strategy to buy bitcoin and have some more cash a month later?

You can buy Bitcoin as a long-term investment but don't treat it like a tool for earning money that will pay you dividends every month like a job would.
2093  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your opinion about HEX? on: July 07, 2020, 06:15:09 PM
Currently, 1 HEX = 1 Satoshi. Can it go up a few fold?

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/hex/
After many bad rumours spreading around about HEX Token I still buy some in the past and I've already made my ROI back, I took the risk and it pays, though HEX can be very confusing to understand but the lesson I learnt here is not all projects that are called shit or scam are actual scam

It's confusing to normal investors because it's a ponzi! You got your ROI because you bought early during the hype and took your profits out of it.

The later you join a ponzi the lower is the probability of getting profit.

Also, getting profit from an investment does not legitimize it. People often get their first profit and go to tell the world about it which only makes more victims join the scheme. These systems work because people like you invest early >> get profit >> spread the word.
2094  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: While using bitcoin there should be privacy on: July 05, 2020, 09:42:18 PM

1. Is my opinion right about privacy?

2. Is it possible hackers can become a thief as technology is advancing or even now, know your custodial wallet or exchange and use the custodial wallet or exchange to know who exactly you are, come to your house one day just to come and forcefully steal your bitcoin? To me it is possible and I will always like privacy.

3. What is the best way to privacy? I will choose bitcoin ATMs

Privacy is very important but I don't agree with you about ATMs being 100% private. They are placed in public spots for a reason. Try to find an ATM that isn't watched by cameras and doesn't scan your ID and you'll see that it's not easy.

It's very possible that some people will find out about your coins through hacks or database leaks but it's the same with cash. When you pay a lot with cash there's a chance someone will tell a group of his criminal friends where you live or the plates of your car and they'll track you down and break into your house.
2095  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN TRUST PROBLEMS: Bitcoin Investers will want to know about this risk... on: July 05, 2020, 09:25:31 PM
So all that you're able to quote OP is Peter SChiff? A guy who promotes invest gold investments and bashes Bitcoin because, wait for it, Peter is Selling gold and Bitcoin was started to be called digital gold so it decreased his potential profits.

It's Peter's job to make Bitcoin look bad to you because there's a chance if you don't buy Bitcoin you will invest in the next best thing: gold.
2096  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-06-10]Pentagon Docs Reveal The U.S. Has Planned For A Bitcoin Rebellion on: July 05, 2020, 08:54:12 PM
Have they planned for a cash rebellion as well? It's far more anonymous than bitcoin and usually when shady people are doing deals or the US is trying to over throw governments they'll use cash themselves to pay people to do their dirty work. Years ago I even tried to buy some drugs from El Chapo in bitcoin but he said that they only accept cash  Grin Grin Grin. Imagine if everyone just started using cash for purchases. There'd be a lot more taxes being evaded because there's often no record of those transactions. There's a reason a lot of self-employed people and businesses prefer cash because it's easier to cook the books.

That plan came to life through Covid19. Cash is dirty and can transfer germs between people so it's a great moment for some anti-cash propaganda.

The real reason to remove cash is of course anonymity. Nobody is buying drugs or illegal weapons with bank transfers. It's all done with cash and without it governments will have total control over your expenses.

The only problem is most countries have the use of cash protected by their constitution but Putin showed the world how easy it is to rewrite it.
2097  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the point of signing messages? on: July 05, 2020, 08:27:49 PM

A real scenario where this was used is a case of Craig Wright who wasn't able to sign a message with any of the old Satoshi's addresses.

True, I had read that Craig Wright is lying about being satoshi, but I hadn't time to analyze it. I didn't know that he can't sign a message from his "possible" addresses. Is he a scam? Better question, is there a huge topic about Craig Wright?

Yes, Craig Wright is not Satoshi. He lied about having access to coins from the genesis block, he lied about writing the white paper, he lied about private keys being in storage and about some trusted person being scheduled to deliver them to him. He's a pathological liar.

There are many topics about him.

And here's a great article with more or less everything about CSW.

2098  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the point of signing messages? on: July 05, 2020, 08:07:25 PM
Some cases in which signing can be useful.

A real scenario where this was used is a case of Craig Wright who wasn't able to sign a message with any of the old Satoshi's addresses.

Verifying that you have control of the address and funds on it is very useful when you're an escrow for 2 parties. This way you can remotely show the seller that the buyer has paid you.

It can be used to prove ownership of a forum account or any other online account that had this address in a signature or posted it online.

May be used to prove that the person you have dealt with in the past is still the same person. Emails can be hacked with ease but addresses not so much Wink

2099  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Lost $9,300, Bearish Re-test In Play? on: July 05, 2020, 07:54:51 PM
The way I see it, there's almost no trading going on apart from bots and some miners selling what they mined. The same amounts that are bought are sold some time later and the price returns to the previous level. How many of these patterns did we have in the last 2 weeks? 5? 6?

I saw an analysis where they came to a conclusion that bitcoin is not going up because there's no new investors but declining in a slow pace because of new coins coming to the market from miners.
2100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Remove the bad influencer from your life! on: July 05, 2020, 07:42:07 PM
Fur has been part of crypto from the beginning and it woun't stop anytime soon. Individuals in the crypto space need to have focus and maintain it. The only way to survive in the crypto space is to follow your heart at time and make necessary research, listen to Fud will cost you every given opportunity.

FUD is a part of every investment and the only thing you can do is to ignore it and move on.

The first step to ignoring FUD is learning how to recognize it. In order to do it you have to stop being emotional with your investments and always verify every news with multiple sources.

Be suspicious and careful and you'll do great.
