also it need libboost 1.54 instead of 1.55? how can it run on my pc if i have boost 1.55?
what is db version needed?

may need to install 1.54 as linux requires library match; db is 5.1. Which linux version you're using, option is I compile a wallet for the system you're using, that way you won't need to change libraries that may cause dependency issues.

why reward is sometime 10, sometime 100 per block?

Smiley I should put some numbers; 100 is for testnet in order to have some coins to paly; 10 (odd block number) is a mimic of the mainnet, a value particularly for this low diff, which grows up to 500 when diff hits 150.

XMG wallets for windows and linux were uploaded here:

http://cryptomagic.com/files/magi-release/
(downloads currently removed until we fix an issue)
(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg8463488#msg8463488)

NOTE: They only work on the testnet. I'd like to collect feedbacks. If everything goes smoothly, we can set up a launch time then. You won't be able to run the wallet without setting the testnet mode, that can be done through magi.conf. The default folder having this file is: %appdata%\magi (windows) or ~/.magi (linux) (sorry we don't have the mac wallet yet). magi.conf should contain this line:
Quote
testnet=1
You may also need:
Quote
daemon=1
server=1
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=rpcuser
rpcpassword=rpcpass

Once conf file is given in the right place, the wallet should be running on the testnet. Go to menu Help -> Debug window -> Console, run
Quote
setgenerate true 1
to mine coins ("1" is for 1 cpu core). We will update standalone miner asap. Please request wallets for the operating systems not available yet, I will compile that, going forward, to assure all wallets available at the launch.

About 2400 blocks were minted in the testnet so far; I've done that for various tests. Issues I've got are the network sync which was proven to be the access of money supply once blocks were minted during PoS. It's about the new PoS mechanism. A few linux boxes were set up for tests, some of which had mining enabled and thus the PoS. The blocks minted were sent for verification, for some reason some of them were two more ahead of the boxes being received, that makes inaccessible to the money supply and messed up PoS block processing. All look fine to me now, will need more confirmations on this.

The PoW mining can be done through the Console command: setgenerate true, or setgenerate true 1 (if you want to invest 1 CPU core only so that the computer won't slow down much). My primary interest is not about the M7 PoW part as to this test, but on the PoS. Let me know any questions/issues you have. If you got PoS earnings, appreciated if you can tell me how many coins are in stake, when and the amount you get the stake. I can send you some coins if you need that for test.

[Testnet] XMG wallets for windows and linux downloads:

To run the wallet, testnet mode must be set. This can be done through the conf file: magi.conf. The default folder having this file is: %appdata%\magi (windows) or ~/.magi (linux) (sorry we don't have the mac wallet yet). magi.conf should contain this line:

The wallet is basically ready, will update (stayed up all night,  Sad)
so can you just tell us when you will release it ?
Pleeeeasssssssssssse an ETA
Magi is based on standard block chain, not the minichain; the miners for cryptonite won't work, will make sure a miner (CPU) is up before the launch.
Bad news Undecided
I think private cuda miner based on cryptonite cuda miner quite very fast and raped this coin.

You're right, and in fact any algo cannot resist GPU and ASIC, just timing issue. So cryptonite is basically mined by cuda miner a lot and probably AMD miner will be out soon. The reason we use M7 is that we consider it's a safe algo. Here is what we're goning to do to "resist" GPU.

# diff dependent rewards, some figures will be published and I will be open to suggestions to modify these numbers further, in order to reach a level that GPU mining is not that profitable by comparing mining XMG with mining other coins

# will try to implement block rewards reduction with high diff impact which goes into PoS

# mining favors small hashrate miners is in our consideration

We have few more ideas, but cannot implement all at this time, we do try to improve these by the time, and hopefully.

Let me release the testnet wallet by end of today. It would be a good idea to decide the launch time after seeing how the wallet is doing in testnet. Initially I thought Magi was good to go, but I just got a sync issue right before the initial scheduled launch time. That was actually due to the new PoS feature. Because of this, I'd like get more tests and feedbacks from you too. After that we will decide a time for the launch (hopefully this week). Magi is based on standard block chain, not the minichain; the miners for cryptonite won't work, will make sure a miner (CPU) is up before the launch.

No worries bud, best to launch with delay than to have problems.

Any idea on the ETA for new launch?

Will be one or two days.

Also I will give answers regarding prior questions raised, PoW mining period (basically long-term); details as to the amount of coins mined through PoW/PoS with some detail figures (upon change based on suggestions), PoS interest as well.

Apologize to all, the launch has to be postponed. As people pointed out testing in testnet, I will release a wallet for this purpose soon later. There is no advantage mining earlier actually; block reward starts from 10 XMG/block, then increasing with diff, with a maximum of 500 XMG/block at diff=150. I will give detail information, sorry for delay.

Like new low heat algo  , gpu friendly asic resisted ?? or cpu only     either way very interesting     got bookmarked and eyes peeled nice job dev-s

GPU will be minable as the algo is like any others out there though different strategy has been used; because of that we think this is a more secured algo. We will see how it is doing as to the efficiency of CPU versus GPU. By the time, we will look into a mechanism (MagiPlan #4) to enhance CPU mining efficiency while weakening the GPU mining.

how to mine this coin once its started?

Miners will be given. Smiley

M7?or next XCN?Looking forward to it...

XMG is M7 based, but won't use minichain. Among a few features implemented, XMG emphasizes a new mechanism to resolve a basic deficiency existing in the proof of stake. There are few tries out there but appears to be 'mitigating' this effect but not a solution. This will be the most important task XMG is going to undertake.

Second coin with M7 algo, watching Smiley

Personally I like the design of M7, more secure than others; and its energy efficient. There are X-forever out there by simply adding more and more hash functions, real question if those work out efficiently; so far M7 looks like a good candidate.
2119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][XMG] Magi | New POS-II Proposed | Most Secured Distr | Tor Anon | M7 on: August 12, 2014, 06:00:53 AM
M7 is a rather new algorithm. I don't think too many coins have it. But too many coins for me. I.e. 50M
Best of luck to you on your project.
Regards,
Brian

How many coins in total you have in mind ideally? Basically issue is not about the total number of coins, Cryptonite has billions, while BTC is 21M, the same order of magnitude here.

Summary

Magi (XMG) is a PoW/PoS hybrid coin (mPoW/mPoS). Magi is designed with difficulty dependent mining reward for proof-of-mining (PoW) blocks in order to put network hashrate under a certain limit. Magi at the first time implements a novel proof-of-staking mechanism, to frustrate potential attack through accumulating a large number of coins and offline staking time (read more..). Magi is at the first concentrating on the low cost in maintaining its block system, for example, through cost effective mining devices. To this end, Magi, aiming at fairness, cost effective and energy efficiency, strives for every single effort to make mining be available to everyone, and provides an even playing field for people looking to issue digital coins without expensive equipment.

mPoW, the magi's proof-of-work (PoW) protocol, in addition to required computational works to be done to deter denial of service attacks, is also a network-dependent rewarding model system. The mPoW rewards participants who solve complicated cryptographical questions not only to validate transactions but also to create new blocks and generate coins. The amout of coins generated are constantly monitored by the mPoW protocol and tuned on the basis of an attraction-repulsion model: 1) incremental rewarding to stimulate network activities during passive mining phase, and 2) decremental rewarding to mitigate redundant mining sources during agressive mining phase. mPoW can effectively govern the magi's network and limit it under a certain scale, enabling the general devices to be capable of mining magi. ++ For details - A network-dependent rewarding system: proof-of-mining

mPoS, the magi's proof-of-stake (PoS) protocol, aims to achieve distributed consensus through operations in addition to mPoW. mPoS is designed such that it rejects potential attacks through accumulating a large amount of coins or offline staking time, either of which leads to security concerns. Similar to mPoW's operation, mPoS is constructed in accordance with the concept of the attraction-repulsion model. Magi hybridizes mPoW with mPoS, and integrate both consensus approaches in order to acquire benefits from the two mechanisms and create a more robust payment system. ++ For details - magi's PoS

FAQ
1. The staking has "Not enough weight", what should I do?
For the regular PoS, "Not enough weight" means insufficient staking time. For Magi's PoS (mPoS), however, the cause can be correlated with the over-time staking. The latter is a typical issue raised by people from time to time. There is only one way to solve this which can be done via resetting staking from scratch: send XMG to another address in the same or another wallet. You may want to use the "Coin control" feature in order to select the input sources. Do not try to stake with a significant amount of XMG that mitigates the weight as well. Once this is done, remaining the wallet running shall gains some staking weights.
