2141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Looking for 3080 & 3090 cards on: October 03, 2022, 02:10:55 AM

I think it's not safe to interact with any new sellers, you never know how they will handle the transaction and what type of item them will send ( present condition ), I always try to buy from those who have sold few times before and have good reviews from their buyers.

With eBay I would say its pretty safe because your purchase is guaranteed. eBay support always sides with the buyer. I had people buy many GPUs and ASICs and I had to take them back for made up reasons.

Only issue with a new seller is that they might not do the best job of maybe packaging it up or shipping it correctly, or they can take their time going to the post office. However they won't scam you. No point in sellers ripping off buyers on ebay anymore. So if its a great deal, cheaper than most other sellers I would say go for it.
2142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v15.0 (Windows/Linux) on: October 03, 2022, 02:07:31 AM
Yes, I know this thread is outdated, but I'm trying to find a workaround.  I'm mining an altcoin that uses the ethash algo on a 1050TI.  This is NOT for profit, but for speculative mining on a new altcoin that can be mined on a 4GB card.  I get a 14% speed bump on this miner initially over other miners I've used, until it realizes it cannot connect for the dev fee, then it throttles.  Since the actual eth pools cannot be connected to post merge, is there a way to keep Claymore from throttling?

Yes you can do this. According to the readme

Quote
-nofee   set "1" to cancel my developer fee at all. In this mode some optimizations are disabled so mining speed will be slower by about 3%.
By enabling this mode, I will lose 100% of my earnings, you will lose only about 2% of your earnings.
So you have a choice: "fastest miner" or "completely free miner but a bit slower".
If you want both "fastest" and "completely free" you should find some other miner that meets your requirements, just don't use this miner instead of claiming that I need
to cancel/reduce developer fee, saying that 1% developer fee is too much for this miner and so on.

You need to add -nofee 1 and it'll mine a little slower but it won't stop when it comes time to connect to his dev pool, which cannot connect and fails.

I had this issue also with many alt-coins. However my issue was that when I mined some alt it would keep switching the DAG back and forth and eventually it crashed after a few hours. Only way to go around it was with -nofee 1.

2143  Economy / Economics / Re: Currencies are Collapsing Everywhere. on: October 02, 2022, 04:00:31 AM
Yes and this is a big problem. People are expecting the fed to stop rising rates because they are seeing cracks forming. And they are expecting the fed to slightly lower interest rates also. However this is not good if inflation prints are still high. Here in Canada we are getting expensive gas prices again even crude oil is down.

Housing is a problem because rents are high. Way too many new landlords out there who are renting out or AirBNB and this is what is causing this housing shortage and increased rents. And there is food prices. You got no choice but to buy food so this affects everyone. Not looking good honestly.
2144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 1D Trendline, 18th Oct is Final Date on: October 02, 2022, 03:55:56 AM
This trendline is bearish and it brings back memories of the 2018 break. Right now we got rumors of some large Credit Suisse bank going under. We got pension funds under risk of default. We still got strong employment which means inflation might tick higher again. We got a housing crisis and energy crisis.

I want it to break to the upside and I am not short but its not looking good. I think the yearly low will break if the stock market keeps dipping. Next week is employment numbers so this will give us a hint if the future CPI print will be positive or not.
2145  Economy / Speculation / Re: October price guess on: October 02, 2022, 03:53:00 AM
Remember 2018? People looked at the past months and saw that bitcoin in its entire history except for 1 year (forgot which one it was) was always bullish in November. And bitcoin tested the $6K area many times and people were very certain it was the bottom. So everyone expected bitcoin to break out to the upside in November 2018. What happened? Complete opposite. Many couldn't even believe their eyes.

And the long liquidations were massive. Because it was so long sided because everybody was thinking since it was a bullish month in the past it would be a bullish month again, and this obviously wasn't the case. So I don't think looking at past months is a good indicator.
2146  Economy / Speculation / Re: October price guess on: October 01, 2022, 04:09:35 PM
You also need to realize that many retail are leaving and not enough retail is joining. Everywhere you go people are talking about the coming recession. Whether there is a recession or not. Many will be scared to invest, especially in crypto. Same is happening with stocks, very little liquidity right now.

Also the $18K is looking more and more like the $6k in 2018. If it breaks then all hell can break lose because this time there is going to be massive selling into a very thin bid book.
2147  Economy / Speculation / Re: October price guess on: October 01, 2022, 03:27:13 AM
I think the bigger issue is what is going on with global markets. There is massive amounts of bonds being sold and it’s causing liquidity issues and many pension funds are in trouble.

Until the fed Pivots I don’t see any bullish thesis. Most likely the bond market will continue to sell off and so will stocks and so will crypto. Right now is the best time to be flat and in cash and see what happens.
2148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NEW EthereumPoW on: October 01, 2022, 03:24:40 AM
What would be the advantage of developing aps on ethw vs etc

I am no developer but I am assuming that it would be plug and play for ETHW since the code is more or less the same. With ETC the code is slightly different. So I am sure if it maintains a decent value there will be apps for ETHW but right now it’s too early too tell.

We had a nice pump this week. I feel if we weren’t in a bear market and if the GBP didn’t almost crash we would be at $50 levels. But many are scared to buy right now.
2149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New to crypto and want to learn on: October 01, 2022, 03:21:07 AM
What can a newbie use to practice crypto mining? What software and how can I go about it?

Don't know if you heard. But right now there is no profits to be made with GPU mining. ETH had high profitability for years and 2 weeks ago it went POS which means you can't mine it anymore.

You can mine many coins right now, however you will not make a profit when you factor in your electrical cost. There is also ASIC mining which might be profitable with low power but the equipment is not cheap. And that type of mining is not done on a computer but its stand-alone equipment.
Based on my research I read it's not going to be like this for long, I read that mining is more profitable in a bull market and it's better to build a rig when a bull market is about to start, funny thing is how will one know when bull market is about to start?

That would be true but most likely not for GPUs. Maybe for ASICs for Bitcoin and Litecoin. The issue is that ETH had a large daily miner revenue. And there isn’t any coin that comes close that is POW and GPU mineable.

Another issue is that there are lots of GPUs sitting idle waiting for something decent to mine. This will keep profits caped and you will all need to split the revenues between all the miners.

2150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RAM stick question on: September 29, 2022, 06:26:54 PM
I remember years ago I would always try and get the same brand and same frequency of memory sticks. I would do benchmark after benchmark. And my conclusion was that if the frequency is a little bit off or its a different brand, it makes almost no difference.

Maybe its shown in a benchmark, however the different is negligable. You will not notice it. Especially when doing desktop work. There will be a bigger performance issue if you don't have enough ram rather than ram which has different frequencies.
2151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Looking for 3080 & 3090 cards on: September 29, 2022, 06:23:46 PM
Right now its tough market for GPUs.

Basically if you are a seller, you are getting awfully low offers because "ETH mining is dead".

If you are a buyer, most of the ads or ebay listings have a price listed that is still fairly high for your tastes. So you make an offer that ends up being insultingly low and get the seller to not respond.

Similar to the car market it seems. Buyers don't want to pay inflated prices and sellers don't want to sell low, so there are no actual sales.

2153  Economy / Economics / Re: GPU price in China drop to their lowest level in histor after the ethereum merge on: September 29, 2022, 02:42:26 AM
Yes I think the prices were manipulated a bit. I remember back in 2014 when I started to mine for the very first time. I didn’t have a lot of money and bought a second hand GPU for $75 and was able to pull in maybe $2 a day. A brand new GPU would of been $150 or so. Maybe the high end at the time was $400 for the RX 290.

Now the high end GPUs are well over $1000. Does that make sense. Sure it’s more powerful but who has that kind of money to spend on a GPU. Let alone other computer parts like the motherboard and CPU. Might as well just get a console if you want to play.
2154  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation is a creeping beast on: September 29, 2022, 02:38:45 AM
Basically the reason inflation started was due to 2 things. First was the stimulus and second was the supply constrains. When the economy slowed down they stopped making cars and then all of a sudden everyone had stimulus money and started buying cars like crazy. And this created supply problems and demand was high and hence inflation went up.

Now to control it interest rates need to go up to prevent people from buying stuff they don’t need. We need to make it a privileged to hold cash in our savings account. Hence why they are raising rates.
2155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will old Cold storage MEW work since we merged? on: September 29, 2022, 02:35:38 AM
Just providing an update…

Basically it worked like before. Pretty much no changes. All had to do was put in correct nonce, gas, and gas limit. Fees seem much cheaper than before. Can’t remember sending a erc20 transaction for less than $1 in fees.
2156  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where are these payments coming from? on: September 26, 2022, 03:09:12 AM
Yes this is puzzling. Because why not send a few satoshis instead of sending this large amount. Dust attack are usually common when miner fees are low and usually never in strong bull markets. But they are hoping you just send all your bitcoins from your wallet from all your addresses and your privacy is affected by linking all your wallets and addresses together.

Also very common on ETH. But with ETH they send you thousands of some unknown coin. You google where to sell it and it’s some unknown exchange where the coin has high value. Only way to sell is to put in your private seeds and all your coins and tokens are gone, very common scam and many fall for it.
2157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: a10 pro miner gathering dust on: September 26, 2022, 03:02:56 AM
From what I can remember. GPUs weren’t really flooded back in 2018. Only deals to be had were maybe on damaged GPUs with bad fans. But I remember having no issues selling my RX GPUs back in those days for a fair price.

2015 was similar. No deals unless the GPUs was damaged or needed work. This time it seems like it’s a repeat. Seems miners are holding on and selling slowly not the flood the market. Or tons of gamers are picking them up quickly.
2158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETHPoW on: September 26, 2022, 03:00:05 AM
Yes a few hours ago FTX added the perp futures for ETHW. So i can see it get pumped sometime by the whales. Only thing missing would be a Binance trading option.

I have a feeling after a few weeks and no more technical issues that they might enable trading. So it’s best to just mine this coin and hold. Most likely many already sold at a loss of $5 when it was released for withdraws on Binance last week.
2159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: how to save GPU POW on: September 26, 2022, 02:57:12 AM
I forgot when that project blew up but if I recall is was probably during a period of low miner profitability. So many decided to scam a bunch of miners because they knew they would be desperate for any miner income and hence why the scam was so successful.

I have a feeling that something similar might pop around this time. Imagine making $5/day/gpu as long as you bought a coin for $25/gpu. Many miners would probably go for that scam out of desperation.
2160  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: a10 pro miner gathering dust on: September 25, 2022, 03:06:05 AM
I bought a A 10 pro asic miner in may 2022 and now I don't know what to mine with the asic anymore, I tried selling but no one wants to buy, I made a big mistake it seems I was so eager to make some money.

A lot of people are in your situation.  Not just with ASICs, but also GPUs.  I've learned that when people get overly invested into things like this and are willing to pay outrageous prices, that's the time to sell your crypto and mining hardware.  Now, as mining is unprofitable for nearly everyone, is the time to be buying.  It's hard to make yourself do the opposite of your emotions, but that's the way to make money.  So my advice is to not do what everyone else is doing.  Maybe do something crazy like mine at a loss even.  I'm sure in 3 years you'd be happy you did.

In short, don't let market prices determine your actions.  Make a plan and stick to it.
If you want to sell your video cards, it won't work now because there is no demand. The recommended retail price of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 is good, and the RTX 3060 is already on sale for $250. That is, there are many difficulties for selling even at a low price. It is even worse with ASICs, if it is unprofitable, it is much more difficult to sell it.

I think so far there are no deals really on GPUs. So you can sell it on eBay and get decent money for it. Go look at recent completed listings and you will see that GPUs still aren’t cheap.

Many miners are probably in the wait and see stages before they decide to sell off their gear. And many gamers are finally starting to buy because prices came down a little and they don’t want to wait.
