2141  Other / Meta / Re: Prevent profiles with negative trust from sending merit on: December 13, 2018, 12:08:57 PM
I would be against this and I doubt it's something theymos would do anyway. People who have negative feedback can still provide worthwhile content and also send appropriate merit. Of course there will be certain individuals that abuse the position but I think they should be taken on a case by case basis and handled by the community. Foserfox is already permabanned anyhow, and I don't think you can send merit once you're banned (I could be wrong, but I certainly don't think they should be allowed to once banned). People only have a limited amount of merit and they will run out of it very fast, especially when banned. If a banned or negative trusted user did send merit then more often than not it's easier to spot abuse/alt accounts they're sending merit to.
2142  Other / Meta / Re: Could we stop having ban appeal topics? on: December 13, 2018, 11:49:36 AM
Any user who is banned for plagiarism gets a message explaining the reasons for the ban, as @hilariousetc commented. I do not know exactly the text of the message, but it should have something saying that the ban is definitive and that there is no way to appeal.

Theymos has recently changed the ban message to something along the lines of you have likely been banned for plagiarism/copy and pasting. The issue is is that forum accounts are like gold dust or their holy cash cow to the type of people who get banned for plagiarism so they're not just going to let them go without a fight and will do and say anything out of desperation if they can if they think they've got even the slightest chance of getting their accounts back. A criminal would do the same after being accused of theft but until they see the evidence they'll try anything they can to wriggle out of something and avoid punishment and that's why users request proof even when they know what they've done because they're hoping we just can't find it or have a made a mistake or whatever.

I think after explaining which post the user plagiarized, the topic should be blocked. And only moderators or administrators post on it if the situation requires it. Any other communication should be made by the appeal email. I'm not saying that I agree with this rule of ban forever who plagiarized. Neither do I disagree with the right of defense of those who received a ban. I just do not believe that the best way to appeal against such punishment is with these topics.

I wouldn't be against some sort of appeals sub board and maybe only staff can posts in there, but locking thread is a tricky issue. Who gets to say when the issue is closed? True, ban appeals are often an open and shut case but many times users still want to protest. Even if we locked the thread there's nothing stopping them from just opening another which they likely would if they feel the issue is unresolved.

Any user who is banned for plagiarism gets a message explaining the reasons for the ban, as @hilariousetc commented.

Where did he write that?

I didn't. Temp bans state the reason and as I said above theymos has recently changed the permaban message to include that they were likely banned for plagiarism but it doesn't explicitly state what they were banned for.
2143  Other / Meta / Re: Top "why I should not be banned excuses" & "it is not my alt excuses". on: December 13, 2018, 11:44:16 AM
I know chi off forum, quite a few of the collectibles guys do. And this is a rare case where what sounds like bullshit was actually true, I feel bad for Chi - but I also think he was a solid gold prick for doing it. Now I know it needs to be one rule for all, but in his case as I know the full story I do think he deserves a pass - maybe with a stipulation that he cant wear a sig for 6 months. On the flip side I can also see how much further Meta will turn into a cesspit of "but he got his account back" type posts.

You know him in real life or just off forum? Regardless of whether the excuses are true or not I don't really buy how they force someone to copy and paste. As I said before, I wouldn't be against change to forum policy as long as it's uniform. What I'm against it someone being unbanned just because of their rank, or their particular excuse is believed by one mod because that's unfair and just leads to complications and more people using certain excuses to get a pass. I know there's a difference between a newbie account who's posts are entirely copy and pastes and maybe a higher ranked account who just made the mistake once, but any punishment needs to be fair and applied evenly across the board. People who copy and paste usually do it to earn so I would be okay with them still being allowed to use their account but just not earn from it via signatures, so I think signature bans are something we should look at but only theymos can implement them. You could maybe choose to reinstate the signature after x amount of time if they're proved they're here to contribute something constructive during that time.
2144  Other / Meta / Re: Any possibility to Unban account please? on: December 13, 2018, 11:37:07 AM
Is this the only case or is there more? Could this be some kind of error I mean he can not really be seriously claiming this is his own work it is posted only 2 posts before his. This looks more like a airdrop thread where they all parrot the same shit getting some crumbs.

And a lot of people are too lazy to even write original spam. Many people copy posts from the same page because they often think they can get away with it and their posts will get lost in the spam and buried quickly by ages of the same. I can't say whether this is an isolated incident but feel free to go through his posts to see if there's more or not. There usually is but staff have better things to do than go through an entire posting history to see how many posts they've copied and that's why it's a one strike and you're out. If people don't want their accounts banned then they should make sure they're posting original content and not lazy spam.

Even I am willing to know if that Permanent ban can turn into a temp ban and didnt knew the fact that till now none of permanent ban have been turned to temp one which is making me more nervous.

Unless the rules change then in 99.9% of cases a permaban is a permanent ban.

Or Can Mod atleast allow me to have a new account if this ban could not be reversed which I could use ahead making sure I follow all rules? Atleast consider this( since if I dont have any spam post in last 6 months, I will make sure to continue so ahead in future.)

Ban evasion is neither checked for nor enforced so make of that what you will.
2145  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos why should we use external script for find important data like ban/merit on: December 12, 2018, 02:23:53 PM
Edit ahh hilarious I didn’t see your post earlier, why don’t offending posts get deleted once a user is banned though? It takes an extra bit of code and an extra space on the profiles for everyone (unless there’s something built in or personal text is changed or something).

Sometimes they do get removed and sometimes they don't. Depends on the mod. I used to remove them mostly but personally I like to leave them now because more often than not they ask for evidence and in the past I haven't been able to find it again. People have even disputed their ban once the posts have been deleted claiming they never even made them in the first place (which is always a lie). Leaving the one that was reported behind isn't much of an issue anyway because plagiarisers usually don't just plagiarise the once but many times so more often than not it's a different post that is reported.

Since theymos hasn't implemented a reason for a ban in the ban message,

He has changed the message recently. It now states something along the lines of you were probably banned for copy and pasting.

Do you mean people reporting the pliagarized post which got the user banned or some other spam post of the user which is still available to the public?

If a banned users post is still public (which it often is, except the account get nuked), and it is a spam post, should it not still get reported and deleted if necessary?
It is visible to all, and other users can still comment on their threads, so they should be moderated as active members are.

As above, it's both. Deleting the one post isn't going to make much of a difference, but other mods probably do delete the post, but it will be rare that that's the only one they've copied.
2146  Other / Meta / Re: My account will ban for copy pastes on: December 12, 2018, 01:45:30 PM
Yes, I am sure that it was once, yesterday, before I wrote all the messages myself.

Well I've already found two:

I like your "4NEW's WTE PLANT PROCESS" GoodLuck sir!! and keep be STRONG!

I like your "4NEW's WTE PLANT PROCESS" GoodLuck sir!! and keep be STRONG!

This is an important project, of great importance in what is about the cryptomonedas, in this case, the tokens. There should be other projects like this and even, there are other initiatives in this regard that allow the best use of the tokens that are presented daily to the public. A great initiative that must be greatly supported

Connecty is a Great project with a good idea and a team of professionals. This is a very new project, I wish the project to be successful, of great importance in what is about the cryptomonedas, in this case, the tokens. Very promising project

I'm sure there's more but I'm not going to waste time trying to find them all.

I ask you to give me one last chance.

You can't even be honest about how many posts you've copied. You people really should take better care of your accounts if they're so valuable to you. I don't get why you would take the chance for so little when the risk is so great.
2147  Other / Meta / Re: Ideas for topic ordering in altcoin announcements? on: December 12, 2018, 01:41:06 PM
I have idea.
Whoever writes less than 300 characters can't bump thread. Quotes are excluded from this.

Meaning: more time to write post == less posts == less spam. If that doesn't work (and I think it should), increase minimum character limit to 400. Or 500. This rule should be applied to every rank including thread starter. Show them who is boss here Grin

I think this project is such a wonderful idea because till now I haven't seen a project that addresses the issues raised by this project as such I would love to see this project succeed with such amazing project an amazing team, so I will make sure I will follow this project and I will advise anyone to invest in this project. Great project and congratulations on the team for this great project!!!!!

^

401 characters
And a real pain in the ass to both read it and maybe search for plagiarism.
I would prefer two liners, at least with those you read them in a blink.

We already see trash like this, especially when people try force something out to look constructive. That's why we have the classic two liner junk posts that people make en mass. I've even seen people telling others to make sure they write two sentences so it's not spam like that's some magic number). It's just enough to look like they've made an effort but when you read it they're not actually saying anything of substance and have just stretched what is essentially a few word post out to two sentences. We even saw in the past people cheating character requirements on signature campaigns by adding invisible junk to the end of their posts in order to dupe the bot that was checking they were making 100 character posts or whatever.
2148  Other / Meta / Re: Decentralized Forum? on: December 12, 2018, 01:34:09 PM
This doesn't sound decentralised to me. Bitcointalk also uses miners and blockchain. Should the forum be hosted on a blockchain and all posts have to be confirmed by miners? Maybe you have to pay a fee every time you post?

People only want rights and power, but no obligation.

Let's try to imagine a decentralized forum. Who is going to pay for it? There are costs in running a forum. If the forum goes well, it will be lucrative, however it has some costs to be running.

People know bitcoin is decentralized, and then think that everything should be. That's make no sense. A global cryptocurrency is important to be decentralized because it cannot be shut down neither controlled. As many people will have reasons to try to shut it down or control it. But a decentralized forum?  A forum is like a business, someone needs to control and manage it.

Well it would probably work like bticoin or bit torrent and there isn't once central authority, but as theymos said, everyone would have to download the client and everyone would share hosting. I like the intention behind a decentralised forum, but it almost certainly wouldn't work very well. It would basically be what this forum would be like if there were no mods at all. Whilst less moderation is generally good, we can also see the problem that arises when mods take a back seat. Spammers and plagiarisers would run rife and the burden is left up to each individual user to moderate which would quickly become tedious. At least mods get paid something for their troubles here but users under a decentralised forum would have to do it for free and I'm sure they'd quickly grow tired of it. Imagine if every user had to nuke every spam bot they saw. You'd probably spend more time 'moderating' what you saw than you would in actual posting.
2149  Other / Meta / Re: Ideas for topic ordering in altcoin announcements? on: December 12, 2018, 01:21:41 PM
Why don't you make it so the thread can only be bumped to the top once per day max? That seems like fair compromise and would certainly defeat the purpose of the paid bumping whilst still allowing active threads to be bumped.

Then you can attack a competitor's topic by bumping it in the middle of the night, etc.

Maybe make it so only the OP can do it then so he could choose the time it is bumped. At least they have to log in and post once a day for it to be effective (or use a bump button if that's ever implemented (which would be a good feature for the Marketplace as well and save people and staff having to remove the bumps which is always very tedious)). I think this would be a minor issue though as the middle of the night is going to be different all over the world. I think making it so only the op can bump the thread once a day would actually make the system work because they can't pass it off to someone else and they have to be active if they want the thread active.
2150  Other / Meta / Re: My account will ban for copy pastes on: December 12, 2018, 01:15:58 PM
OP, are you sure you only did it the once? Be honest.

As the other guy has said that rules are rules and there is nothing the admin could do anything about your account. Anyway, I just learned so many excuses here in the forum of doing copy paste and I never read a reason like this. OP your reason is worthless and even a kid will not going to believe on you with your story. You just clearly made it up and now you are being evicted on this forum.

So many excuses we even have a bingo card for it now:

We need to add the I was a drunk one though. That's popped up quite a few times.
2151  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos why should we use external script for find important data like ban/merit on: December 12, 2018, 01:06:08 PM
Why should it matter if a user is banned? Do we really need to process such a useless piece of information here and take up the database of bitcointalk. All that matters is who is still here now...

I think vod added it because it wasn’t so hard to implement and he has to scrape the modlog anyway so why not just sort that?

I’d like for the return of user stats pages before or even if this gets considered to be implemented but I think both take a lot of unnecessary computing power.

Yes, we do. Please actually read my post directly above you, or do you think there's a purpose in people pointlessly reporting already banned users time after time and staff having to waste countless hours on handling them? Also, please explain how it takes up space in the database. Staff can already see who is banned so making that available to the public changes nothing other than saving both staff and reporters time.
2152  Other / Meta / Re: Any possibility to Unban account please? on: December 12, 2018, 12:57:43 PM
I have got my account banned

It says the reason in the ban now. You were probably banned for spam or plagiarism, and in this case that's true:

I think 4New coin is revolutionary coin in industry. As it market strategy and team who comes around the globe is more powerful key to spread it to around the globe.

I think 4New coin is revolutionary coin in industry. As it market strategy and team who comes around the globe is more powerful key to spread it to around the globe. Indian NRI CEO is key factor. Indian have very Broad Mind and they know how to increase growth.
Thank team 4New

Also If I am not allowed to open a new account, how am I suppose to continue my participation in already working translation bounty campaign?
Without updating thread periodically, I will not receive anything for the work I have done till now.

You can't. This is like getting fired from a workplace and asking "but how will I do my work".
2153  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos why should we use external script for find important data like ban/merit on: December 12, 2018, 12:56:59 PM
The rank should probably just be changed to banned or something for permabanned users, like it is on many other forums, or at least marked on their profile somewhere as it already is for staff, but I think theymos is against this for some reason. He should probably state so though and clarify because this is something many people have requested in the past. It actually has a purpose as users and staff often have to waste time on handling reports for users that are already banned.
2154  Other / Meta / Re: Give an indication why an account was banned! on: December 12, 2018, 12:48:43 PM
and if it has any effect at all, it'll just turn fairly-easy-to-identify plagiarists into more ambiguous shitposters.

So it's a hell of a vicious circle!

But the last 2 month are more reporter show up and i have the feeling that every week come more and doing it !
This i guess is a result of the changes you have done with the merit system too , and its nice to see that we are on a good forward way !

I still keep "reporting"  anyway how ever it will comes !  Grin

I think it's a sad state of affairs that if these people weren't plagiarising then they'd just be shitposting instead, but it's true. The people who plagiarise are only here to earn and not contribute and if it wasn't for copy and pasting then they'd just be forcing out their generic responses about something they know little about, and that's why the forum is in such a poor state. We really should be cracking down on the unsubstantial posts or more importantly those that are paying people to make them. If users are spotted making incredibly terrible posts then the person's signature they're wearing should face repressions because they're not doing their job properly. As long as we continue to do nothing about this then it will just continue to happen. Running a signature campaign is at least a part time job. Running a larger one would probably be a full time one, but these people are not going to willingly do work that they don't need to especially when there's no repercussions for doing a shoddy job or even none at all. Once it becomes unacceptable to run campaigns in such a way they will change or start hiring people who are willing to do the work and there's plenty of people who would do so.
2155  Other / Meta / Re: Ideas for topic ordering in altcoin announcements? on: December 12, 2018, 12:33:58 PM
Limiting who can bump would be easier to implement, but the roughness/immediacy of it makes it more easy-to-manipulate IMO.

Why don't you make it so the thread can only be bumped to the top once per day max? That seems like fair compromise and would certainly defeat the purpose of the paid bumping whilst still allowing active threads to be bumped.

I have idea.
Whoever writes less than 300 characters can't bump thread. Quotes are excluded from this.

This wouldn't work either. The bumpers would then just start writing posts that contain 300 characters. They'd probably be more of an eyesore than the generic good project ones etc.
2156  Economy / Reputation / Re: Shitposter bounty spammer with multiple alts on: December 12, 2018, 11:51:03 AM
I don't think he's a spambot. I think he just struggles with English, has dozens of accounts and is rushing to squeeze out posts as fast as he can, hence all the mistakes. I often type like that when I go fast. The problem is here is he doesn't proofread his posts nor care about it. He just spouts out some generic nonsense and mostly back to back to bump his post count up and then on to the next account which he often posts back to back there too. I think he's Russian and most of the accounts have received at least one merit and they happen to be Russian a lot of the time too so I think that should be looked into. I'm sure this goes much deeper.
2157  Other / Meta / Re: Decentralized Forum? on: December 12, 2018, 11:45:41 AM
Not everything needs to be decentralised just because bitcoin is, but feel free to create your own forum. I think a decentralised forum would be a good experiment but you would quickly see how inefficient it would be. The only way I'd see it working is basically you become your own moderator with banning or ignoring users rather than mods doing the work, but those actions don't effect any one else unless maybe they trust your actions and they add you to some sort of trust list, but do you really want to spend half your time ignoring or banning trolls, spammers and bots all for the sake of decentralisation?

I was thinking, wouldn't it be better if this forum would be decentralized? This forum is made for the Bitcoin fanatics who support the decentralized technology.

Imagine users getting auto-banned when they use certain keywords.

This doesn't sound decentralised to me. Bitcointalk also uses miners and blockchain. Should the forum be hosted on a blockchain and all posts have to be confirmed by miners? Maybe you have to pay a fee every time you post?

Will not repeat what was said above but what do you mean by getting auto-banned when using certain keywords?
So someone saying "thank you sir" = auto-ban?
No, they would only get auto-banned when they say specific words which can only be used as an insult.
For example: idiot, faggot, fuck you, gay, motherfucker, nazi and others..

This certainly isn't decentralised. This sounds overly authoritarian and repressive. People shouldn't be banned for saying fuck, nazi or gay. What if you're having a discussion about fucking gay rights in Nazi Germany? Thrice damned?  Grin
2158  Economy / Reputation / Re: Shitposter bounty spammer with multiple alts on: December 11, 2018, 04:22:50 PM
They can't be nuked. I've banned some of them already but there's probably dozens more.

If you search some of their commonly used typos you get a lot of hits and they all follow the same pattern.

crypricurrency:  Cheesy

People choose CryptoCurrency for diverse reasons.
I for one find crypto currency innovative. There are new ares of crypto that are profitable. It gives out more returns than other part. There trading, bounties, Airdrops and now recently, ICO, which did turn out to be very profitable before scams and the bear market came along.
crypricurrency is a great additional income or if you just want to develop your skills in differetn areas you can choose it

I don’t mind that a lot of people are everyday here. Our trying to be rich is clear and the majority of us are ready to make crypto our fulltime job. Of course, it could not be so easy at the beginning but I am sure that the amount of participant on the cryptomarket will be grown so much in the future it just needs in becoming more popular and so many organizations will lose their employees because of crypto. I think that it is the one more reason of crypto’s being banned. Are you ready to give up your job to be here or not?
crypricurrency can be a great full time job and you will be happy to have it like this so you need to get ready to it

Have you ever take wrong decision when you were panic. share your experience
panicwill never help you , so please, learn to control your emotions, this willnhekp you in the crypricurrency world

They said the main developer Ethereum was Vitalik Buterin in 2015, this article introduced me to the Smart contract technology that made someone have an agreement that did not have a third party.

But on the other hand say 90% of Altcoin will die, how could their research have such thoughts?
Quote
Hello everyone, Like you've seen the title, My Question is that people say 90% of altcoins will die, If there are 1500 altcoins then 90% is big number, But i've never seen a coin die unless it was a scam or something, even Bitconnect is still alive, How will the Altcoins die? Is it even possible?

I began to think that the developers had made the idea of making the latest coins in the form of Ethereum, but they assumed that Altcoin would die.

Come on guys
I think let's think positively together for the current price situation.
ethereum is going to be fine and i am sure in it as i believe in this crypricurrency and i think that it will show us a lot of good things

Making random decision in the crypto world might lead to mistake and make you to blame yourself. Whenever you are trading your coin, either you are an investor or a bounty hunter, there are two factors you should consider, which are time and money.
As an investor, consider the long wait you have had when you invested and consider the money you have spent. The same is also applicable to a bounty hunter, where time spent should not be wasted.
Do your analyses and be wise in trading, or else you would blame yourself.

that all is truw but the thing is that even with perfect done analysis you can end up in a very bad sitution in the crypricurrency world

Someone has been reporting a few users for posting back to back and I started to notice a pattern. In addition to the constant double posting they also make the same sort of badly-spelled posts with letters jumbled up and all in lower case. For example:

it is the cryptocurrency world we are talking about so i do not think that ot can be so stable for us to predict which tokens will appear

i expect good token that will bring you a  lot of money and good emotions so i believe that you should not be afrid of the cryptocurrency world

peopel think thatbthey do not need much experience and much knowledge to be  aholder but really why jot to do so

peopel think taht holding is good and that it is easy and thwy are right in a way but it is still quite responsible for peopel

peopel have a right to do wahtever they want to do and we will know how to be more kind and human if we pat more attention

of course there are a lot of peopel who can not afford a lot but tht it only a beginning and i want to wish them good luck

scammers are lazy and i believe that there is jo way for peopel to control this events and there will be always a risk to be scammed

it is okay taht peopel want easy money but still they should know taht stealing is bad and that should be punished

i buy new coins as i think taht they can sometimes bring us more amd more than old omes and old ones can bring us down

Yeah sometimes I like to buy some newly listed coins on market. But I only invest on into protensial coins. Cause I don't wanna lose my capital.
Well I have never heard about it, I think it is not really famous or you can say my lack of information about it, now a day at best marketing value coin is only bitcoin, people are investing, trading and using bitcoin from so many different places, they are getting good profit with it, so I think hold your ripple for some time and try bitcoin investment, it will be profitable for sure.

They even use the same typos multiple times: peopel & taht for instnace.

He was banned for copy and pasting and that's only one of the very few 'crimes' that will lead to a permaban here (the others being things like spreading malware or ban evasion). Anything else he might have done is irrelevant, but they usually won't lead to a permban but a temporary one (like incentivising people to post. That would likely only get you a permaban if you're a serial offender).
