2161  Other / Off-topic / Re: There was no Big Bang, Truth shall set you free!!!! on: June 09, 2015, 04:09:29 PM
At the end of the day both science and religion tell the same story: one moment there was no universe, then *POOF* big bang/god created everything in an instant.

Personally, I think both theories are equally improbable.
2162  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: difference between kilowatt and kilowatt per hour on: June 09, 2015, 04:05:07 PM
When I first read the title I was formulating a smart ass answer, like what's the difference between a kilometer and a kilometer per hour, but it seems to me like the kilowatt charge is an additional fee on top of your usage rate.  Call your provider, they'll have an answer for you.
2163  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 5.2.0: GBT+Stratum, RPC, Mac/Linux/Win64, Antminer U3 on: June 09, 2015, 03:50:57 PM

Never could get 5.10 to recognize U3 units. Same with 5.20. Using command line as suggested in README.ASIC:

bfgminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 -u x -p x --set-device OCL:binary=no -S antminer:all --set antminer:voltage=x800 --set antminer:clock=x1286 --set antminer:timing=0.022421

Using latest CP210x driver. U3 COM ports look OK in device manager, but 5.20 does not see them on startup. Manual input using 'M' and '+' does not work. Anyideas appreciated. Luke-Jr? Anybody? TIA.

What is the item I've bolded and underlined?  I didn't use that for 5.2.0 to see my U3.  But just seeing it isn't good enough, gotta figure out why it won't mine at more than 10% of it's ability.

I wish 5.2.0 would at least start with my stick miners, I'm at a loss why 5.1.0 works for them but not 5.2.0.

Another block came to visit while I'm working on the payout 33.59% Smiley

Nice tx fee on that block, too!
2165  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: May 31st to June 14th diff adjustment thread with promo picks NOW CLOSED! on: June 09, 2015, 03:35:26 PM

Were still in a nice rally.  We have hit 230 and kept going up.  Were almost to hot 231 - http://www.coindesk.com/price/

So was a good day on price.

Back below 230 this morning, but still looking good.
2166  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: June 08, 2015, 10:59:02 PM
Summer is heating up all over the northern hemisphere, most pools are seeing a drop in hash rate, and thus the back-to-back negative diff adjustments we just saw recently.
2167  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] HaoBTC, mining dividend paid out hourly on: June 08, 2015, 10:44:04 PM
I sent an email asking these questions, but I will ask them here as well because maybe more people have the same questions:

  • Is the Banking tab where I make deposit for investment?
  • On the Banking tab, is the btc address at the top where I send deposit for investment?  Is the QR code the same address, for where I send deposits?
  • How do I withdraw my deposits, do I use "Send" and send to my own bitcoin address?
  • Is the Financing tab for borrowing bitcoin from HaoBTC?  If not, what is the Financing tab for?
  • The Financing tab has a red Chinese character after it, what does it say?
  • What is CNY Bank?
  • On the Multisig Vault tab, when I click "New Vault Access" it takes me to a password confirmation screen with a yellow warning button with several Chinese characters on it, what does it say?
  • Under Settings->User Profile it asks for IDCard number, what is IDCard?  I am not comfortable entering my passport number into any website so I would never use that option.
  • Under Settings->Phone Number I have tried my US cell phone a couple different ways but I never get a call, what format do I need to use for my phone number?
2168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin core QT. the standard 8 connections on: June 08, 2015, 10:25:05 PM
I am running the QT bitcoin-core on my home PC for a week... I was told that I need to allow outbound connections, otherwise it is not a full node.

I see the standard 8 connections, thus I guess I'm not contributing. My question is: how do I allow outbound connections?

You need to open port 8333 on your firewall and forward that port.  8 connections means you have incoming, more than 8 means you have incoming and outgoing.  Use https://getaddr.bitnodes.io/#join-the-network to check your node.
2169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 08, 2015, 10:18:15 PM
Beautiful!  I can't wait to convert my S1 over, keep it up!

The sticks do OK with just the passive heat sink cooling, no additional airflow needed?
2170  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: How are wallets like XAPO earning money? on: June 08, 2015, 10:12:58 PM
that is plain for anybody to see in their reported earnings.

And you further illustrate my point that you fail to understand their business model.  They will never have reported earning, they've said as much from day 1.

Rewind back to 2013 and read this: http://www.businessinsider.com/amazons-profits-what-people-dont-understand-2013-10

Or google "amazon profit" and you'll figure it out eventually.
2171  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: How are wallets like XAPO earning money? on: June 08, 2015, 09:20:23 PM
Note that Amazon.com is not even profitable yet ...

You (and almost everyone who uses Amazon as an example) misunderstand Amazon's "no profit" business model.  You think they've been losing money the past 20 years?  They are very profitable, they reinvest almost all of it and forgo reported profits for market share..
2172  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 5.2.0: GBT+Stratum, RPC, Mac/Linux/Win64, Antminer U3 on: June 08, 2015, 03:45:15 PM
I am also experiencing issues with 5.2.0.  I followed the readme directions for the U3, using
Code:
-S antminer:all
and
Code:
--set antminer:voltage=x800 --set antminer:clock=x1286 --set antminer:timing=0.022421

bfg sees the U3, started mining at about 9GH/s, and decreased to 1GH/s over the course of a minute.  Anyone else had any luck with the U3?

I also tried 5.2.0 with my nanofury stick miners, been using 5.1.0 with them for a while now.  5.2.0 will not launch, however, it just hangs at:
Code:
 [2015-06-08 08:53:05] Started bfgminer 5.2.0
5.1.0 continues to work with them.

Congrats on the mega-diff solve, wow!

So solo-mining has nothing to do with the solo-pool you're on, but with the block you are given to work on from the 'source', whatever it may be?

So everyone on the network who is mining Bitcoin at that moment is competing for that one block?

Is that how it works?
Not only was this exact same question addressed one page previous (and probably 100 other time within this thread alone), "how bitcoin mining works" is easily searchable on this site or the internet at large.  How do you get to be a member on this forum and not even understand the very basics of mining?

2175  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury - Mining Lighbulb on: June 04, 2015, 10:35:41 PM
You know, I was thinking you could probably make a deal with chicken farmers and others who require heat bulbs and allow them free use of the bulbs while you take in BTC and pay zero electric. Only issue is making sure there is wifi there which could fixed with a cheap mifi but that would really cut into cost  and possibility of an roi.

You'd have to find a dumb chicken farmer to take that deal.  Why would he want a BTCbulb when all he wants is heat?  A heat bulb will produce heat more efficiently than a mining bulb that also produces a bit of heat as a by-product, there's no benefit to the chicken farmer here.

What does this mean?

"No valid hashes for over 1 sec. attempting to to restart"
"attempted reset got err: <0> LIBUSB_SUCCESS"

It means you're using a U3.

I caught a conflict between these same two lines last month, too.  Tongue

PM sent, hope to be part of it again!

2180  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 02, 2015, 10:08:16 PM

Nope, I asked in their thread and Eric said they are S3s.  I'm guessing they removed the bottom plate on all the machines.

Thanks for posting.  I was guessing S5's aswell.  I'm jealous of their electricity price then if they are making it work with S3's.  Must have a sweet power deal.

I think I'm even more impressed now knowing they are S3's.  And I was already very impressed.  Just did not see it looking at them.

It definitely makes me drool seeing all that gear.

Here's the link to his post and the quote: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1072474.msg11477449#msg11477449

Amazing setup.  You mention S3s, but they look like you are using S5s?

Where were your units located before?  I'm always glad to hear about relocated units instead of all new units, keep that network difficulty down as much as possible.

Do you know how long it will take to ROI?

These are indeed S3s though they do look quite alike.
We previously had the majority of our miners hosted in two mines in Mabian and Meishan, Sichuan. The new facility is designed, managed and owned solely by HaoBTC.
For the miners, since they have been running for a while, they have generated enough profit that we have recouped the initial investment.
We estimate that the construction of the new facility will set us back somewhere btw USD600,000 and 700,000 and we are looking to acquire more miners which will cost something too. If the BTC price stay stable, we expect to recoup the investment within eight month period (Note: This estimate is by no means accurate ).
