On Chrome the only two non google extensions I'm currently using are Reddit Enhancement Suite(which is a must imo if you read reddit) and KryptoKit which is pretty great for bitcoin stuff and sending and receiving encrypted messages. Not that I have much to talk about that needs to be encrypted, but to have the option if the need were to arise is nice to have.
Can you give me the link to download the extensions?

Sure, here you go:

2163  Other / Off-topic / Re: What rights do you have with the police where you live? on: June 07, 2014, 10:54:19 AM
Here in central Europe and in my country police thinks they are way more than normal civilians and that law allows them to hit us and we can't do anything against it (few of my friends got beaten on police station already and nobody has done anything against it, if htey use wet towels you will have no proof).

You can simply shot the police if they abuse you. The police abuse because you don't hit back.
Nope here in our country you would get to court or get beaten even more if you would do anything against them.
OFC they don't do it just for fun but they take you on their department if they find you 0.2g of marijuana for example so it's even worse than doing it for fun.

In my country if the authorities abuse their power you can simply report it to rebel hit squad and they will do the work for free.

Woah, where is this?
2164  Other / Off-topic / Re: SoftBank announces emotional robots to staff its stores and watch your baby on: June 07, 2014, 09:53:16 AM
Pepper’s creators know they can’t program the robot to behave perfectly in all situations, so they wanted the robot to learn on its own. According to Son, the robots deployed at SoftBank stores will start collecting data on their interactions with people. When Pepper tells a joke, it will observe if people laugh, for example.

The robots will upload their data to a cloud-based repository. This “cloud AI,” as Son called it, will use the combined data to improve Pepper’s behavior. “The robot is going to evolve through this collective wisdom,” he said.

That is pretty interesting. It reminds me of that movie "She". It's a movie about computer based AI in case anyone wasn't aware of it. It's pretty interesting.
2165  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Just a bit of forewarning for people who have wallets stored at blockchain on: June 07, 2014, 09:50:57 AM
I'll keep my blockchain but I will back it up and keep an offline wallet because cannot happen again. That money was really needed. More than I think anyone will ever know, but at least now I learned my lesson not to click on random google ads anymore.

So it was that same google adwords ad in the picture that when clicked on took you to the fake blockchain.info site? I assume google has dealt with this already. Because from that picture I could see a lot of people clicking on that ad because it says that the url is www.blockchain.info in green there.

I'm surprised that google would allow an ad like that to go to a different url than the one shown in green.
2166  Other / Off-topic / Re: BOOM! One Ton of Shipment of Gold To Hong Kong Contained Just WORTHLESS METAL on: June 07, 2014, 09:45:24 AM
Wow this is really sad to hear...loosing value of 1ton gold is too mutch how mutch it would be transfered into fiat anyway?

1 kg of gold is $40,262.38 and 998 kg of it were lost so that means the value of the shipment was $40,181,855.24.
2167  Other / Off-topic / What rights do you have with the police where you live? on: June 07, 2014, 09:37:58 AM
I'm curious about how different countries or even different states/provinces within the same country approach the issue of personal rights when dealing with police.

Also, if you don't know what your rights are you can say so as well. Because I don't exactly know either and I'm curious. I assume many people aren't clear on this issue and I think it's something that is important to know.

Especially interested in the contrast between western cultures ie US/Canada vs European differences.

Also, if you believe your rights should be different than they are feel free to explain your position.

And real stories about how your rights were upheld or even violated would be interesting too.

Has anyone had any experience with the modern mods for Morrowind that are supposed to make it feel not so old? It seems there is a large modding community out there, is it worth it to buy it and try to dive in and educate myself on all these mods?
Yes! Grab the Nexus Mod Manager, which makes mod management a no-hassle experience where you can install, enable, disable, install, and uninstall with very little effort. Hell, pirate it first if you have doubts -- NMM works with pirated copies.

I would pirate it and try it out before I bought it on steam or something but since I regularly use bitcoin on my computer I don't touch anything that might have malware.

Even the thought of buying it and downloading all these third party mods makes me scared.

I need to set up two separate computers I guess. One for gaming/entertainment and a secure one for email/bitcoin ect.
That's another great thing about NMM. Aside from their own moderation, you generally don't have any kind of files which can carry effective malware being used, but rather just changes to game assets. The only executables you ever may have to touch might be a script extender, like SKSE for Skyrim, but these have all been around for a good many years. If you're going to pirate games, though, it's definitely reasonable to run them in VM.

I talked to a scene group a few months ago going over the risk of "fake" scene releases carrying a malware payload (since they don't even sign their releases), and though they're fairly large, they've said it literally hasn't come up, which I've found very surprising given distribution to consumers generally happens on third-party sites like TPB rather than on the scene sites which often still rely on ancient usenet-type technology. What generally happens (if anything, and usually not), they say, is that another group plagiarizes their DRM-circumventions and just changes the loader to show the "faker scene's" name. They still give the cookie-cutter "users need to be responsible for whatever they run on their machine, and diligently check it" response, though.

Is running games in a VM a viable option? That sounds like it might be good. I'd be afraid of it being a bit slow though.

2170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eBay CEO: "We will have to integrate digital currencies..." on: June 07, 2014, 05:58:22 AM
I kept telling people not to overanalyze his words but then I saw the interview in written format.

And he intentionally says "Digital Currencies" twice, when asked directly about Bitcoin.

Digital currencies is way more syllables, and much harder to say than just "Bitcoin".  So the fact that he intentionally used that phrase .... twice .... means he was resisting saying Bitcoin.

it wasn't until the interviewer asked him point blank how long before Ebay PayPal incorporate Bitcoin?

And still even then he didnt answer directly.  He said "There will  be use cases for Bitcoin ... like remittances ... transfer of funds ... you'll see Bitcoin in a lot of these markets"  (accurate paraphrase)

He didnt answer the question, nor did he state that Bitcoin is going to be the digital currency PayPal uses.

When asked if he owns any, he said yes just to see how it works.  A necessary step to creating your own digital currency.

Not trying to be a debbie downer, but CEO's talk very intentionally most of the time, and he never once said Ebay / PayPal would be using Bitcoin itself.

-B-

Offering BTC alongside other currencies is completely in line with what an online wallet service like PayPal offers. Of course he can't make any definitive statements, but him saying that he owns some bitcoin to understand how it works is a very strong statement.
2171  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed etc on: June 07, 2014, 05:32:13 AM
I smoked for 10 years. I don't regret it. I quit when it got to the point that it wasn't worth it for me any more. Just became more of an annoyance. But it was nice to smoke when I was younger. Socially speaking, it was a great thing to do.

sounds like you were not addicted to it.. it's a different story for most people though. your mind starts taking over if you don't get your fix, and it keeps telling you that you NEED it.

Oh I was definitely addicted to smoking. I quit slowly over time smoking less and less. I stopped buying packs and would smoke my friends cigarettes after meals and such(I'd buy them a pack here and there to thank them). As soon as I stopped buying packs it was just a matter of time to slowly adjust. I knew I didn't want to have a pack around else I'd just smoke them as normal. At the time I was living with two other people who smoked so I guess instead of making it harder it actually made it a lot easier to quit.
2172  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why bitcoin is going nowhere (too hard to buy bitcoin) on: June 07, 2014, 05:07:09 AM
Ok, so I want some bitcoin in Australia.

What are my choices? I can meet the local drug dealers on the corner and do a shady deal, or I can provide detailed personal information to some unknown company. I have a credit card account and I can buy $1000 products online anywhere in the world, but I can't buy bitcoin.

Here is the registration questionnaire (https://anxbtc.com/#setting_verification) for ANXBTC bitcoin exchange before I can purchase bitcoin:

Admittedly, that questionnaire is ridiculous, but there are quite a few other options for you as people have pointed out in this thread. Personally , I wouldn't give that company my business after seeing what information they require. I know that they are just attempting to cover their ass legally speaking, but I still find a company asking that much of a single person offensive.

Hello, ANX here. May I ask how is our questionnaire ridiculous? They are simple questions. BitStamp will suddenly freeze your funds and require you to complete a longer questionnaire, including how you got your bitcoins and why you are selling them for fiat, or vice-versa.
We'd love to hear your feedback.

While I respect the fact that you need to abide by your local laws I find that in particular the employment, income, source of funds and the nature of activity parts to be invasive personally. It feels like applying for a loan when in fact I would be the one depositing money. I don't blame your company though if these are the KYC/AML regulations that you're required to follow.
2173  Economy / Economics / Re: So whatever happened with Mt. Gox? on: June 06, 2014, 08:33:57 PM
Depositors will most likely get back at least 50% of the bitcoin given the large amount of bitcoin Mtgox still hold.

That is an incredibly optimistic estimate I would say. 200k btc wasn't close to 50% and who knows how the bankruptcy is going to pan out.
2174  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Are Some of The Craziest Religions Out There? on: June 06, 2014, 08:32:47 PM
Those Raelians seem pretty out there. Honestly, I'm not so sure they really believe all that. It almost looks like just an excuse to have sex parties. I remember when they faked the human cloning announcement and all the reports about orgies at their compound and such. As far as religions go, it could be worse Tongue

Well, this is a good first step in getting yourself help and beginning the process of making right.

Definitely don't consider suicide over something like this. Over time you'll look back and be glad you didn't end your life. Consider talking with someone too if your still considering it: www.suicide.org/international-suicide-hotlines.html
2178  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Find Trendon Shavers in person thread... [BTCST, BTS&T, pirateat40] on: June 06, 2014, 08:11:56 PM

During the relevant period, Shavers transferred at least 150,649 BTC to his
personal account at an online BTC currency exchange which, among other things, he then sold or
used to day-trade (converting BTC to U.S. dollars and vice versa). As a result of this activity,
Shavers suffered a net loss from his day-trading, but realized net proceeds of $164,758 from his
net sales of 86,202 BTC.

During the relevant period, Shavers transferred $147,102 from his personal
account at the online BTC currency exchange to accounts he controlled at an online payment
processor and his personal checking account, which he then used for, among other things, his
personal expenses, including rent, car-related expenses, utilities, retail purchases, casinos, and
meals.

My god. He only got 150k out that whole mess? Even as a scammer he's a massive failure.

We were all thinking he walked away with millions. I don't understand how he only cashed out so little. 86,202 btc is much more than 150k. How much did the lose day trading? He used to brag on IRC all the time about moving the market and controlling bitcoin. He constantly implied that he was making all these returns to trading and selling big amount of btc to the secret customers.

Ponzis have far less reserves than outstanding balances Wink

Or he managed to hide the rest from the authorities and is very very rich now.

They seem to have some pretty exact numbers going for them there. And they all line up with the amounts we knew about before the SEC was involved.

But for him to have paid back 500k out of 700k and only end up with 150k usd is pretty bad. That's $0.75 per btc.
2179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [WANTED] Bitcoin Hypothetical Questions for the You, Me, and BTC Podcast on: June 06, 2014, 08:08:29 PM
Hypothetical: What would happen if the bitcoin network was hacked and then restored by a fork?  How would that affect us in 2014?  How much value would be lost in the network?

This is off the top of my head, you can alter/refine it anyway you like.

Definitely interesting. The whole idea of a hard fork always bothers me a little. The fact that enough people can really change how Bitcoin works has some bad connotations in my head.

Thanks!

It's almost surprising that there haven't been competing groups attempting to 'take over' bitcoin so to speak. I'm sure we'll see some sort of conflict like that in the future. Lots of good questions can be discussed surrounding that topic.
2180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese rumor group caused big price drop of Bitcoin on: June 06, 2014, 08:03:24 PM
We all saw the big price dropped 8 hours before in almost all Bitcoin Exchanges , etc. OKcoin, Huobi and Bitcoinstamp. The drop was triggered by the rumors which spread by a Chinese rumor group through Weibo, so that the People's Bank of China has banned all the Chinese banks’ accounts which rare elated to the Bitcoin Exchanges, including the third party companies, such as the agencies which offer deposit service to the Bitcoin Exchanges. The numbers of the rumor group dumped lots of bitcoins on the major exchange platform to make panic sell, it caused the price dropped rapidly. At the same time, they bought back more bitcoins on a lower price to make profits. Because of the high click rate on Weibo, this strategy worked effectively, and a lot of Bitcoiners lose. In my opinion, If we can hold the bitcoins longer until the price is up to $800(the data is according to the history bitcoin data, check it out!), the rumor group will not have that much money play, thanks to the Chinese government (limitation of deposit). Hold on Bitcoiners, we can make a new history this year!

When you say "chinese rumor group" what do you mean exactly? Is it just a couple of people on Weibo? Or is this a large scale organization getting out false information to a high amount of people quickly?
