2161  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Petition for George Floyd's Law on: June 02, 2020, 03:18:48 PM
this is my concern..  a group of people who actually do not care about George's death using the conditions to create riots..  I saw on the news, the shops around the demo location were looted, I asked myself Is that a form of solidarity to George??  I did not justify the actions of any group but the suspect was already punished and that was enough in my opinion..

I do not condone rioting and violence in any way, but you have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The anger comes from a chain of events, not solely from Floyd's death, and they're fueled even more by provocateurs.

The past few months have changed a very significant % of people's financial status and put them into quite bad situations so you have to see through their own eyes to know why all the violence is happening. If their economical status will stay this low for a few more weeks/months, the rioting will gradually become larger & larger..

These protests came at the perfect time to fuel the anger of those who have now been put in a bad financial position.
2162  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is bitcoin not anonymous? on: June 02, 2020, 02:29:07 PM
I don't think BTC would've had the same success if it was anonymous.

With 100% transparency instead of 100% anonymity, you have a currency whose ledger could still be checked and researched by intel agencies. If it was 100% anonymous and no authority had even a clue about where each coin goes, they would've kicked it out of the world from day 0 and this forum would've probably be located somewhere on a .onion domain. Smiley

Satoshi was simply a genius. By creating a pseudonymous coin, he/they created a coin in a friendly way in regards with the authorities - a coin that would not instantly become a state's enemy.
2163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: an important reminder: don't get killed in this bull run and protect yourself. on: June 02, 2020, 01:27:33 PM
I have lots of stuff to do IRL for a few days and BTC goes past $10k.. wow Smiley

This could be a price increase post-halving and if it is, it might be sustainable. I wouldn't make any moves (maybe only buy) right now, any bull/bear run is risky no matter what move you make. Most moves I've made during them went wrong.

Personal opinion to whoever wants to accumulate: unless you're a professional trader, buy a bit of BTC every day or week and you'll have an average of whatever price is coming up. After you have invested enough, hodl. If you wait right now, it's literally a coin-tossing chance whether it soars or dips.
2164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why I believe bitcoin will crush in the distant future on: June 01, 2020, 04:39:22 PM
There is no difference. But bitcoins are 21M and if bitcoins are getting lost overtime then there will be less in the future (like 100 years later)
And that makes it a donation to everyone, as Satoshi himself said. Less BTC = scarcer BTC = higher price if the demand and interest will still be there.

Gold is lost too, just imagine how much gold has been lost in the past 2000 years that is sitting right now underground. Smiley

A today's website security would be nothing right now if quantum computers would be commercial starting from tomorrow. Just imagine having 50 quantum computers and trying to penetrate websites with high-grade security. A lot of damage could be done.

Before they become commercial, we'll adapt to them.
2165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why I believe bitcoin will crush in the distant future on: June 01, 2020, 04:31:15 PM
If I die and had all my cash placed somewhere very safe, there's a chance nobody'll ever find it again or even know that I had it. So what's the difference between that and someone who dies without letting anyone know about their privkeys/passwords, marking their BTC as lost?

If quantum computers can do that then we're in big trouble.
I'm quite sure there's a plan for that scenario. Before quantum computers become commercially available, Bitcoin will be strong enough to counter their power.

If that's what scares you, just imagine what technology they could use against it considering the intel has tech like decades before we do. Smiley
2166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is worthless, but in-game currency or tokens are priceless ...yea right! on: June 01, 2020, 03:52:33 PM
It's truly insane to see how some people spend a ton of their money to buy some literally fake currency. One would probably argue by saying the in-game currency at least provides entertainment while Bitcoin doesn't. Some people I know are subscribed to Prime, Netflix, Xbox Gold, PS+ at the same time and sometimes even to some things like overpriced daily delivered fresh food. I don't even need a pen & a paper to calculate how much money they lose to these services per year.

But they are missing something, which is.. putting the idea of BTC being virtual aside, you'd simply have a currency with future. If one decides not to buy it because they compare it to some in-game currency they thought was worth a few grand per year to pay for, I'm not sure they're the best type of people to get to invest in a cryptocurrency.
2167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why has Bcash failed at becoming digital cash? on: June 01, 2020, 03:19:58 AM
Many merchants accept it because it's in the top 20 cryptos out there and it's a BTC fork. If it hadn't been forked off Bitcoin, it would've sat right now somewhere deep in the list of existing shitcoins.

BCash has failed because we don't need 100 different forks for every single thing some part of the community wants different. At some point, most alts will prove to be absolutely useless. Most of them already are, but some people still wake up from time to time investing a few bucks in them to try their luck.

With every new fork that pops up, their existence becomes more worthless and nonsense. Let's be realistic - we'll only have few that will survive, and BTC will probably always sit at the top.
2168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Vietnam bursts an illegal casino who used to handle bets worth $3 billions on: May 31, 2020, 07:34:58 PM
Vietnam authorities are claiming to burst an online casino that used to handle bets worth $3 billion, and what’s surprising is despite getting such huge volumes the casino owner never felt the need to get his casino registered and operate legally.

Further he had deployed a very clever strategy where he had hired people to lure gamblers out, and then he used to pay those people fixed commissions for every deposits the gambler made through them.

Lastly I would request you’ll to wager only on reputed casinos, and check their history before you wager otherwise you may end up loosing your funds to fraudulent online casinos.
As far as the article says, you are only allowed to use land-based casinos in Vietnam which means that even the most reputable online casinos aren't an option. A casino that wagers $3B is going to be considered a "reputed" one by most as it handles lots of money.. similar to the way people trust exchanges based on their total volume. Most people don't check a company's history before placing money and rather do it trusting other reviews and opinions, unfortunately.
2169  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Wanted - 'old-normal' nation on: May 31, 2020, 05:07:09 PM
~

This post honestly got me a bit emotional. I have been thinking of emigrating too, to be honest. It's getting too far and I still had a little hope this is all just in my "conspiracy" mind and everything'll get back to normal. Apparently, it only gets worse and you know what sucks even more? The fact that I watch what happens in the US and know the same things will come here in the EU soon enough..

I don't think there are many options out there - and I fear that, post my emigration, the remaining non-compliant countries will have to kneel to those draconian crappy measures too so it'll all be for nothing really. At least here I can sit with next to my family as long as we still are allowed to.

Switzerland doesn't look to me like a good option. Go here, press CTRL+F and search for "Switzerland". They only seem like the good ones, or at least used to seem, but they aren't what they used to be anymore. I don't know much about Iceland, but there's something you have to keep in mind which is... the things you know about the corruption and everything that you know is wrong in the US may be nothing compared to another country and the only way you'll find that out is if you personally live there for long enough. You could ask somebody on Reddit to give you an insight but maybe you have another perspective, another vision so their insight becomes worthless.

It honestly looks like the COVID-19 administration we (Romania) had in the past few months, which is literally but unofficially a non-elected temporary government, is trying every now and then to take it to another level: dictatorship. They planned to take everyone >45 years old to COVID quarantine centers, and that was a legit plan but citizens started some internet revolt so they said they postponed it, so I do expect the plan to continue soon.

Our President has turned from a seemingly good guy to a semi-Nazi in a matter of weeks. If that wasn't worse enough... He has earned the Kalergi European Award which is damn scary (give Kalergi a quick look to see what it's all about). So the thought of moving to a country that I never knew is slowly getting to communism/dictatorship and finding that out when it's too late is scary AF.

The economies in those non-compliant countries will thrive until they won't anymore. This is a literal domino, they'll be hit too (or at least I personally think so). Wouldn't be a surprise if US declares some kind of war on them to do the same thing they've done to Syria and all the other countries they've destroyed. Biological warfare or real combat, who the fuck knows anymore.. everything is too uncertain right now.

Cashless... oh well, Romania now has an authority called "Authority for Romanian Digitalization" which promotes cashless society. Some shops here are starting to impose taxes if you want to pay by cash (for now it's $1 on some shops; so you have to pay products + $5 delivery + $1 cash tax). It's driving me crazy, because they will strip money off us until we finally decide to stop using cash so they could say "oh well, nobody's using cash anymore so we're going full digital!".

When I go to a supermarket, every 2-3 minutes a voice alert telling us to keep distance from others and pay with card is repeated. It honestly got printed inside my fucking brain like some damn MK Ultra programme. Every shop I go to, I hear that every 2-3 minutes. If I don't, I see everywhere these alerts printed and scotched on walls, windows, everywhere.

The number of people fighting against these things is very low in most countries. Very, very low and once you start crying out loud, you'll become the enemy of compliant citizens. One country I know the President has had a strong opposition to COVID and draconian measures is Belarus, but tbh I never studied it in-depth to know if it's worth it to move there or not.

Gates and his f'ed up plans would make me feel threatened too though if I lived in the USA. I mean, I already feel the threat from thousands of miles away because I know this will go worldwide.

I compared your fears to what I feel from here to let you know that it's not just the US - here it's just as bad, maybe even worse. At least.. in the USA you can buy weapons easily AFAIK compared to Romania and most of you own weapons. If a riot begins here and someone wants to loot my house, I'll have to fight using either some bat, glass bottle, knife, machete or bare-handed. That's it.

Just take time to properly think about every pro and con because you don't want to move to a country that could put you into an even worse situation - especially if you don't know their culture, history, politics etc. Never even thought of the "second wave" as a wave of riots. That one did make me think.
2170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Pros and Cons on: May 31, 2020, 03:48:12 PM
The biggest con imo is how hard it is to fully understand how the system works. Takes years and it's not something that newer generations would be accustomed to like we were to mobile phones. A mobile phone requires putting in that SIM card, powering it on and you're free to text/call.

But BTC requires a lot of things you don't already know even as a tech geek unless you start studying it. The worst part is, the largest mistakes are usually learned on the go. You can pay $10 using a $50 bill anywhere and anyhow without having to think about high fees due to congested network, about only being able to use it once (paper wallets) or your $40 might go in the void et cetera.

As a pro, decentralization is the one that wins me.
2171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #BitcoinAndBlackAmerica sign on: May 31, 2020, 02:12:33 PM
my heart goes out to all the colored people in US and all those who have been the victims of racism that seems to be a part of US culture. but to be honest i don't see why bitcoin is being pulled into all this, i can't see anything that bitcoin could solve here!
Not an American, but to me it seems like racism in the USA is something some people have interest in triggering whenever they have some purpose to fulfill.

I keep in touch with some people living out there in the US from time to time and they always used to tell me the racism they portrait on the TV is way more exaggerated than what you see in real life. White and black people usually get along.

I do see why BTC is brought into this - it's the way every country's economy has been pulled down to the ground through some unnecessary measures and the fact that some countries have poor people become even poorer and probably at least 10% of the middle class has turned to poverty.

Makes you look for better alternatives & it's not bad at all to at least mention Bitcoin's name especially during a crisis - maybe it gets to the right person's ears. It's awesome however to see that BTC is mentioned nowadays even in protests, compared to years ago. Smiley

Ar fi misto daca ai putea sa iti tii P.U.L.A. in el.

2173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Taxes on Bitcoins: Unreasonable or essential? on: May 30, 2020, 08:05:11 PM
We want bitcoin to be a globally accepted currency.
Open your eyes wide, it'll never be a globally accepted currency. At least not at the level we'd want it to be.

If governments did want Bitcoin to thrive and not be a threat to them, they would've regulated it from the start. How? Well, it could initially be regulated, at least temporarily, a similar way gold is. That doesn't mean we have to call it a precious digital metal nor does it mean it's a safe haven - it's just a way BTC would be regulated.

Still, the thing is that I'm not fine with taxation on many things, not only BTC or Gold. In fact, in some countries if you hold Bitcoin or Gold for >1yr, it becomes tax-extempt and their economy status is very well.

But somehow a large door of interpretation about cryptos has been left open in lots of countries. Could be the disinterest of them in cryptocurrencies or the fact that they're still working on a perfect regulation for them.
2174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Taxes on Bitcoins: Unreasonable or essential? on: May 30, 2020, 05:15:48 PM
All the rich ones I know don't pay taxes, avoiding them one way or another and yes - legally. I am not against the law (I'm someone out there would've said that), but I think I've had enough of my taxes be used against me.

Our politicians are known to have off-shore accounts where they safely store their wealth without paying a single penny for taxes. So why tax some guy for buying $100 worth of BTC and selling it for $150 then? If someone considers they have to reward somebody for the money they've earned, then they should be free to give away money to the state or whoever else. But if the rich have the advantage and opportunity of knowing the right persons to teach them how to make moves not to pay taxes, then don't tax the poor who don't have the same opportunity.
2175  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Lockdown Deaths Have Started. on: May 30, 2020, 03:05:08 PM
It's a domino of events that are rapidly unfolding. It was clear from the start that any way we take it, the COVID-19 measures will attack us from every side possible. I unfortunately don't have much of a problem financially yet.. yet. But those who were already poor are going into absolute poverty.

The unemployment's only going to get worse in time. Just wait until multinational corporations are going to start cutting off job positions worldwide. If I learned one thing this entire lockdown, it's the fact that no matter how we take it and no matter what we change, the collapse was triggered and it's going to be a long a$$ chain of crappy events we'll have to do our best to resist.

The peaceful protests have turned violent in a matter of minutes and the worst thing is, so many people are angry at the situation overall. At the situation they have to encounter due to lockdowns and unemployment. It's turned into a mixture of race war & their anger.

But when you have no more money to feed your children anymore, you know you have nothing to lose anymore no matter how crazy and psycho you go. When these unemployed citizens start running out of money & food, they'll join the current violent protests. And looking at how many lost their job since the beginning of the year... it doesn't look like good & peaceful times are coming at all.
2176  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Cumpără Bitcoin fără KYC: ATM-ul Bitcoin din Milano care respectă anonimitatea on: May 30, 2020, 02:25:11 PM

Translation for @fillippone

As far as I know, part of the Shitcoins ATM are temporarily offline in Romania due to them being inside malls. I haven't visited the online ones recently to check them out, but I know that the ATM owner said he doesn't plan to add KYC unless it becomes mandatory.

I found this Facebook post interesting - if Facebook translates it correctly, I understand they had (or maybe still have) a promo through which they sold/are selling BTC under spot for some time?
2177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you donate in a casino? on: May 29, 2020, 05:25:15 PM
Casinos are already rich, they can manage to implement charity by their own money.
They're earning a lot of money per day especially when they re-opened their establishments, a lot of people will go to the casino and play gambling.
As far as I understand, OP tried asking us what our opinion is about adding the option to donate money to charities inside an online casino. In other words, if you'd like to have the opportunity to donate part of your casino balance to charities at any given time. You can see that on OP's Charity Poker Tournament description:

Quote
100% of the buy-in will go to COVID-19 relief efforts across the globe and, for extra impact, Bitcasino will add a 10,000 USD donation to the pot.

Cheesy
2179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you donate in a casino? on: May 29, 2020, 01:18:48 PM
After seeing how the money was misused in some local charity campaigns a long time ago, I decided not to give the money to anyone anymore but to rather use the money to stock up some food/toys and personally hand them out to those in need. What makes it even better is the feeling you have when you see their smile. Makes your day every time.

It's always welcome though to have charities around on different services and platforms for those who want to give away some money. This is just a thing I personally prefer doing.
2180  Economy / Economics / Re: If Recession Kicks In, How Will Bitcoin Perform? on: May 29, 2020, 12:42:29 PM
Again, what do you think about commodity-backed cryptocurrencies, maybe a silver-backed, gold-backed, a cryptocurrency backed by a basket-of-goods? Do you think they can outshine other cryptocurrencies that are only based on mere fundamentals?
I am not sure if a commodity-backed cryptocurrency could be a reality in a trustless manner. If it could, it'd be awesome imo. But the separate investment in gold & silver has its beauties - you do not get that feeling of holding a beautiful coin in your hand with BTC (there are physical BTCs, but that still doesn't make BTC be 100% physical). Smiley

I'm not sure they could outshine Bitcoin, for example. The way I see it, it's going to probably remain the king for a very long time due to the fact that it's been proven to work as it was intended to and it's been successful through lots of different attempts.

In a crisis where barter becomes a thing and internet connection is still affordable, Bitcoin could thrive easily due to its transparency and immutability. Gold could be faked, you'd have to trust someone else's words as you can't check whether the coin is 99.99% gold or not. I don't think backing a crypto with gold would give it many advantages overall.

If the current internet fails(localized failure esp) , we could use Bitcoin in ways listed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2183740.new#new
Here comes the problem: that is only if you already have the knowledge inside your head or bought the necessary stuff. But in case of an internet outage, +95% of the people wouldn't have any option to make use of their coins. If internet fails, people will probably have way more important things to care about than purchasing bicycle generators.

I find local Blockchain/Bitcoin interesting (not in that links^ page). It should be possible to build something that can be used locally and later sync with World's Blockchain whenever there is internet. Whether it takes 2year to find internet for synching shouldn't be a problem as long as the data is well decentralized, fool-proof, secure etc

Another interesting idea is to create a physical Blockchain/decentralized-system that is totally independent of the internet.
So after 2 years of having no internet, would you trust the blockchain you'd get connected to? Would they trust us? Because at one point, someone could maliciously revert the blocks to their own advantage and give you a connection to their own version of the blockchain.

What if someone uses a device offline to send you 10 BTC and then goes to a place where there is internet connection and sends the same amount to a different address, but online and from another device? You would have no idea their BTC were double-spent and once the blockchain goes live.. oh well, your 10 BTC would become obsolete.
