2181  Economy / Speculation / Re: Suppose Bitcoin Price start to rise in 6 week to $30,000 -will you buy or sell ? on: September 20, 2022, 02:35:13 AM
Bond yields are hitting new highs. Stocks and crypto all look weak and like they will break their lows if the fed hikes 1% on Wednesday.

Honestly you need to be nervous when yields are hitting new highs. Usually the bond traders know something we don’t. Most likely tomorrow will be chop and Wednesday will be crazy volatile.
2182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETHPoW on: September 19, 2022, 08:31:31 PM
OP nobody is forcing you to mine ETHW. Do not claim your ETHW if you think they are scamming you. But I know you will sell it because at the bottom of your mind it is free money at zero effort.

The dumping started already. Price per ETHW was $4 an hour ago. I made another check and it is now at $5.17. Did it bottomed already? And just like BCH, whales will pump this coin for some gains. Many big miners are whales too, and together with the anti-Vitalik group, they will try to stabilize this coin.

I don't think it bottommed yet. The bottom will be once Binanace, Coinbase and a few other exchanges creddits their users and allows trading. Most likely it'll be a slow grind down. Then it'll find a bottom somewhere, trade for a few weeks and then some whales might end up pumping it if they feel like it.

Then it'll top out at $50 or $100, people will think it'll be the next real ETH and it'll peak like Bitcoin Cash did at like $3000-$4000 with retail holding the bag.

ethw wont even be 50.
and never 3 or 4k.
eth may never recover its ath with this transition to pos.

Honestly it depends.

If Binance and Coinbase allow spot trading and enable deposits/withdraws.

If eventually there is a futures and perp market listed for ETHW, then I can see it getting pumped. Maybe to $20 or $50 or so.

Usually whenever a coin is listed with perps it has a tendency to get involved in pump and dump schemes. Look at what happened with LUNC recently.

2184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash for mining Bitcoin is no longer profitable - any alternatives? on: September 19, 2022, 12:58:39 PM
Looking at the ETC hashrate, it peaked at 300TH/s and now it looks steady at under 200TH/s.

https://2miners.com/etc-network-hashrate

I am surprised that it hasn't gotten lower. Makes you wonder who is mining this. They are most likely mining it at a loss. There cant be that many people out there with free power.
2185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETHPoW on: September 19, 2022, 03:20:31 AM
I wouldn't short it however.

This reminds me of what happened with Bitcoin Cash when it launched. People assumed it would go to $0.

However it traded between $200-$300 for a few weeks and then boom. 10x gains or so. Many will dump the airdrop and many whales will buy it up to pump it. So shorting it is just crazy. Maybe short it after it pumps.
2186  Economy / Speculation / Re: Saylor equivalents? on: September 19, 2022, 03:17:43 AM
What country are you from? There might be a Bitcoin ETF or equivalent and you can buy that with your stock trading platform.

You can use an exchange such as Binanace and just keep it on the exchange. Don't need a software or hardware wallet, its just for extra protection. If you keep it on an exchange just make sure you use 2FA and don't reuse passwords. As long as you don't click phishing links in email or anything suspicious you should be fine. Also enable whitelisting addresses also as an extra protection.
2187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HDD Mining. Bitcoin HD (BHD). Is the future after the merge to ETH 2.0 on: September 18, 2022, 04:34:03 PM
Yes i also got burned by trying HD mining. It wasnt Chia it was that very first mineable HD coin, forgot the name.

Basically HD were cheap. I bought HD on clearance, used Craiglist, used eBay and then finally got it running and made almost nothing. Then I was stuck with all these HDD that nobody wanted because everybody wanted SDD.

Gave away most of them. Most are collecting dust still. Nobody wants HD these days.
2188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: In your opinion, which altcoin do you think is going to be the new king of POW on: September 18, 2022, 01:46:19 AM
Honestly I don't see any new POW projects coming out. Its been like this for many years. This isn't 2015 again where everyday you would go to "Annoucements" section and get to instamine a new coin.

Most projects go to an ERC20 token, and those are only presold. Then if the project launches their own chain, its always POS. One reason for this is due to greed. Why give miners money? Also its due to environmental impacts and how much waste POW coins are creating.

Largest POW besides BTC is probably Litecoin or Dogecoin. 2nd place is probably Ethereum Classic. Hashrate peaked at 300 TH/s and now its below 200 TH/s. Maybe if enough miners give up, then it might be profitable again.

well, technically speaking, will there ever be a minable coin for 0.1+ kwh miners during bear market ? or will we be able to mine during a bull run only ?

what about CPU mining ? is anything mineable now adays ?...

Even in a bull market it'll be tough. Maybe if Elon pumps Dogecoin to like $10 a coin then all the Scrypt ASIC owners will be happy. However I don't see that happening.

For CPU mining there is Monero. However you need a good CPU for that.

Like the Ryzen Threadripper 3970x which is $2000 and gives you like $1/day before power. With a regular CPU you will make probably less than a nickel however.

Times are tough...

2190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Poor Nvidia and AMD on: September 17, 2022, 01:33:42 PM
It's time that Nvidia will again witness why miners are so important to their business, there will never be another profitable coin like Ethereum again, even the difficulty of those less profitable coins are insanely high too, like what the f***, I don't know what to do with my mining rigs anymore lol 😸😸 I turned them off for now.

Honestly I thought this two companies won't allow Vitalik to switch lol, I was wrong.

When their earnings come out in the guidance they always state that their business does not take into account mining profits. Right now their stock is dropping but its not because of end of POW its because most large cap stocks have dropped recently. Yields are going up and looks like all stock indicies will hit new 52 week lows and hence why Nvidia is dropping. Plus all that non sense they had earlier with the Capitol.

They are a big company and they can survive without miners. However the next few quarters will be brutal for them because there is going to be a huge supply of used GPUs and many gamers will just buy used instead of paying 2x as much for new.
2191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum miner statistics before the merge and after the merge on: September 17, 2022, 01:29:23 PM
Bitcoin

Foundrydigital.com  26.3 %
antpool.com       17.2%
f2pool.com       16.2%
binance.com    12.2%

Foundrydigital.com  26.3 + antpool.com  17.2 = 43.5%
Foundrydigital.com  26.3 + antpool.com  17.2 + f2pool.com 16.2 = 59.7%
Foundrydigital.com  26.3 + antpool.com  17.2 + f2pool.com 16.2 + binance.com  12.2 = 71.9%

https://miningpoolstats.stream/bitcoin

Is it worse here or not?

Its been like this for years however with Bitcoin mining. Every once in a while some pool gains popularity that it needs to increase pool fees to make miners switch to a different pool.

In the past they were many times when a pool had >51% hashrate and nothing happened.
2192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How do I stake my ETH? on: September 16, 2022, 04:02:57 PM
Yeah i remember bought cake for 100$ staked it and after 1month i lost 20$. I got 80bucks back all staked rewards included. It is bullshit. Or you must buy coin at lowest price but who knows whats lowest price? Mining was good thing.

Generally with staking the highest yields are the most volatile coins. So you might get 100% APY on some random altcoin however if it losing 90% of its value then you are not out ahead.

ETH staking is better because its a high market cap coin like BTC. It most likely won't lose 90% value in a few months. The issue is that the staking rewards are just way too low right now.

When it reaches the point where you can put it in a bank savings account and invest in some bonds which is iron-clad safe rather than stake it with an online exchange for similar rewards, the former makes more sense.

If the rewards grow to 10% a year then thats a different story.
2193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Offical end of ETH mining forever thread... on: September 16, 2022, 03:59:11 PM
Why argue about profits now when the coin hashrate is growing so much? 10 or 15 cents profit doesn't matter much if the video card costs 400-500 dollars. Even if the profit is 30 cents, then 400 / 0.3 gives us more than 3 and a half years of payback. You need to wait a month or two when miners with expensive electricity stop mining coins.

This is similar to late 2018/early 2019. I remember RX 470 had similar profits. I mined with ~0.10 power out of boredom and I think I broke even. The difference is that back then an RX 470 4GB was worth maybe $75.

Now you got $500-$1000 GPUs making $0.10-$0.20 a day. Everyday you run the GPU you risk of blowing a fan bearing or blowing some capacitor/VRM and killing the GPU. There is a risk/reward issue here.

You can sell today for $500, or mine for the next 6 months, make $20 profit but risk killing a fan or entire GPU and losing more money.
2194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NEW EthereumPoW on: September 16, 2022, 03:54:03 PM
It seems listed on many exchanges, however anyone know if deposits/withdraws are open yet on the new blockchain. Many exchanges already creddited people their ETHW if they had ETH balance.

Surprisngly the price is not dumping yet. So either deposits aren't enabled or there is some large whale buying up all the ETHW.
2195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash for mining Bitcoin is no longer profitable - any alternatives? on: September 16, 2022, 03:50:02 PM
That's a bummer! I always thought that Bitcoin mining was profitable using both ASIC and GPUs. Now that Ethereum is gone, no idea what coin will replace it's place and how soon.

What is scary is that there are people all over Reddit and Twitter asking the same questions. They over-invested on their rigs because they assumed that they would be making profits for years until their rigs are paid off to be faced with this reality.

We warned them for months about the upcoming merge. We told them how difficulty works, how supply is capped. However everyone was like "Oh, when ETH goes POS I will just mine ETC, profits almost the same".

When will some other coin replace Ethereum? We don't know. Maybe 6 months, maybe 1 year, maybe never. If you like mining you should just switch to an ASIC and mine BTC or LTC if you got a good price on power. GPU for the moment will be difficult.
2196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How do I stake my ETH? on: September 16, 2022, 12:24:15 AM
Yes its not worth it in my opinion. The rewards are just way too low.

You can buy some US Government Bond and they yield almost 4%. And that is gauranteed and very low risk compared to keeping it locked up on an online exchange. Anything less than 10% and its just not worth staking or yielding anything crypto related due to the risks involved.

2197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Offical end of ETH mining forever thread... on: September 15, 2022, 07:34:22 PM
This is more or less similar to how it was in 2015 or so.

There would be a coin like Vertcoin which seems the most profitable. However after a few days, the profitability would be pretty much equal to everything else out there in terms of GPU efficiency and performance.

If you got free power then there is stuff you can mine but when you factor in the electrical cost, you might as well just sell the GPUs.

Who knows, maybe it will change in a week or two when those with $0.10> call it quits because they see their power bill and profits and decide they are better off just retiring. Then with the falling difficulty might be worth it. But right now there are just too many GPUs out there.
2198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Offical end of ETH mining forever thread... on: September 15, 2022, 06:36:30 PM
Very difficult to put a price on ETHW. The futures market is so illiquid.

https://www.bitmex.com/app/trade/ETHPOWZ22

Barely any trades. Looking at the time and sales it bounces around from $15 to $21 with a small order.

I think the telling will be if a large exchange such as Coinbase, Binance, FTX actually lists it. Currently it doesn't look too well.
2199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is Most profitable coin after ether? Also any thoughts on prohash on: September 15, 2022, 05:05:22 PM
And where to get ethw wallet?

Since its a fork off ETH I am pretty sure you can just make your own address and private key with the ETH software. You can load the eth client offline and create an address and save your key. And use that address to mine it too.

You should start to mine ASAP before the hashrate grows. Later on you can get an official ETHW client wallet.
2200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Offical end of ETH mining forever thread... on: September 15, 2022, 04:58:16 PM
Hashrate still growing on ETC

https://2miners.com/etc-network-hashrate

I think it will go up for the next 48 hours and then most likely it'll back down when people finally give up mining due to the low profitability.

ETC hashrate was 70Th/s and now its over 300Th/s so 230Th/s out of the 900TH/s has moved from ETH. Question is where will the rest of the 670Th/s go?
