the default ssh credentials are root/root .. while the default UI credentials are different .. admin/admin
Awesome, thanks again! Cheesy *john writes this hint down for the upcoming review*
Any suggestions on how would I find its external IP given SSH access? I guess I could always send a ping or something from it to a vps I own, but that's kinda convoluted.

or this :: curl -s --head http://myexternalip.com/ | awk '/External-Ip/{print $2}'

Thanks man! Cheesy

One last question - I'm having troubles connecting to it over an external network, e.g. if I use my phone network it doesn't pull up the web UI. Is there any way around this? If this works, I'll be able to monitor this over the internet.

I did a 'curl ifconfig.me' and that worked. Cheesy

Running stable around 1.6TH/s after placing this at a cool location (window-sill). I'm just wondering why one of the modules is running consistently at 120*C, lol. That particular module is running at a lower voltage then the others, too.

PS: Any ideas on how to get the WAN address showing? I'm still manually connecting to it directly as it never shows on myminer.io. Anyhow, I'm really happy with it (1.6TH/s stable). It managed to crash completely twice during the day (in which there was no connection to the IP and I had to restart it manually), but that's probably due to overheating. First impressions and reviews/pics will come tomorrow after I let it run a complete night.

The units report back "home" if in the settings tab you have that option checked (it's on by default though). Then the myminer.io gets updated ..

Note: myminer.io does not list your miner if:
1. the miner does not see the net (i.e. you mine on your local p2pool node or similar)
2. if the register option is off (settings tab, at the bottom)
3. your PC and the miners are in different subnets

Make sure the miners get their time right (ntp), and have a consistent pool connection.

It might be case 3, as I'm on an extremely big network. Any other way to determine its address? I remember reading somewhere that I can ssh to it, and after trying it indeed accepts ssh access. It doesn't really accept the password I set using the Web UI though, is there a specific username/command I should use?

I used "SSH admin@(the ip)", and I imputed  the password afterwards.

Quick question, does anyone's SP20 crash after 1-2 hours of running? I probably have the values wrong...

I'm a sucker for fun electronics and/or bitcoin related stuff. And cars, although I sold my old one before relocating.

Good and bad news. Cheesy
I got it working after noticing that the standard vendor MAC address is Texas Instruments (from Xian01's post up there) and with a combination of Wireshark.

Bad news: My ethernet port is dead, that's why I didn't get the initial connection. The router will have to come tomorrow either way. Cheesy

I'll let it run for a few hours at least, and report back. Right now at 80% it's quite loud.
231  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Closed] Legendaries review party of Spondoolies-Tech's SP20 on: December 15, 2014, 06:44:14 PM

Thanks guys, but I'm trying to connect this to a workspace network that requires me to add the MAC address of it to work, and I don't see it despite being being connected to the same network. (probably because the router rejects its connection). I tried connecting the LAN cable to my laptop directly, but I can't seem to find it either.... any ideas?

Tried, but it's still not showing up on the myminer.io page. I've bought a router off Amazon with 1 day shipping. Cry

John,

I work somewhere that limits access to the dhcp system via mac addresses, surely there will be logs showing the SP20 trying to connect and being rejected. Unless you don't have access to that system.

The SP20 is setup differently to other miners in that it needs DHCP to get its IP address, some others like the Bitmain kit comes with a preset IP address, which requires a different set of hoops to jump through Smiley

Nah, no access to that. Sad I was wondering if it will give a login page if I manage to find its IP? I found (what I think is) its MAC address using wireshark, and have given it access to the network, but none of the IP's seem to give any access at all to the control interface. myminer.io is empty as always...
Can you get to the Myminer.io page at all or page can't be found? Perhaps you have some web content filtering of proxy action happening at the perimeter.

Yes, I can get to it but the page is empty as usual. (with the title etc in tact of course)

Yes, if you hit the right IP address with a web browser it will prompt you for username/password.

Okay, I'll keep on trying!
And I give up. I'll wait till I get the router tomorrow. Cry
With Wireshark you can find the DHCP discover message the SP20 initiate.
Get the MAC address from it and ask your workplace system admin to configure the DHCP server to give the miner an IP address.

Did that, but I'm not sure if the MAC address I got was correct as it doesn't show up on the the network yet although I've whitelisted it.
232  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Closed] Legendaries review party of Spondoolies-Tech's SP20 on: December 15, 2014, 06:42:50 PM

I thought I got the actual MAC (probably not) of the miner by doing the wireshark trick and whitelisted it, but apparently it's not the MAC here as I couldn't connect to any of the devices on the network via a browser. Anyway, I got a router in the mail - hopefully tomorrow should work!

Thanks again for your help!

I'd cancel that router .. but in the meantime, go here >> http://www.dhcpserver.de/cms/

Install that on your laptop. Take 1 cable and connect it between the miner AND YOUR LAPTOP.
You'll get a "mininetwork" with only two items on it. The miner will receive an IP address from that software.

Then you can browse to the miner address and find out the mac address to add it in your office configuration.

You can also set it to a fixed (known) IP address, add the office gateway information, then plug it in the office network.

You don't need the office DHCP server to give you anything. Just "take what you can, give nothing back" .. that's a saying from Pirates of Caribbean ..

Got it running and connected, but how do I check the IP addresses connected to my laptop on the mini network?

Without an IP assigned to it it wont' respond, you need a DHCP server running to have an IP address assigned to it.

234  Economy / Lending / Re: 5 - 10 bitcoin loan I might be new but please don't not give me a loan because on: December 15, 2014, 06:12:17 PM

Hello bitcointalk, today I've come here for a loan.
I'm looking to loan 5 - 10 bitcoin.

My plans are: max it out on dice sites hoping to double it, if I lose all I don't give back simple as that.

I will not pay back the loan thats why it is called a loan.

I need it to spend on darkweb, if you argue about giving me the loan because I want to spend on darkweb, then I will report you.

I need to pay of some debts.

I will pay back 1 bitcoin in 2 months, and the rest I keep.

LOL. Nice trolling - well played.

If you are able to connect to it through a different network it says to far right side once connected:
Hostname
    miner-xxxxxx
MAC address
    xxxxxxxx

Hardware Version
    SP20E Jackson
FW Version
    2.5.33
CGMiner Version
    cgminer4.7.0
CGMiner Status
    Running
MinerGate Status
    Running

*I put X on a few things to not show mine (Probley was not needed)

So if you can get to it on another network you could easily get the mac address and use it on the network you want after.
Welp, I guess I'll have to buy a router then. Is there any way I can view its MAC address by just plugging it directly to my laptop via ethernet?

well, your laptop won't give it an IP address if it is not running a DHCP server,

but maybe you can try to

ping the broadcast address of the network your laptop lives in, something like:

ping 192.168.1.255

then issue a

arp -a

which should show you the arp table and, maybe, the mac address of your miner.

Otherwise, install wireshark and with it running and capturing, connect the sp20 and power it on, it should try to find a DHCP server and you should be able to see its mac address.

Give this a try using windows built in DHCP

If you are able to connect to it through a different network it says to far right side once connected:
Hostname
    miner-xxxxxx
MAC address
    xxxxxxxx

Hardware Version
    SP20E Jackson
FW Version
    2.5.33
CGMiner Version
    cgminer4.7.0
CGMiner Status
    Running
MinerGate Status
    Running

*I put X on a few things to not show mine (Probley was not needed)

So if you can get to it on another network you could easily get the mac address and use it on the network you want after.
Welp, I guess I'll have to buy a router then. Is there any way I can view its MAC address by just plugging it directly to my laptop via ethernet?
