For Christmas, I want my 3 minutes back.

Minus...

Welp, that certainly is a thing you wrote there.  I too have dreams and receive presents.  Lets be friends, we can hold hands and speak in riddles to each other forever.

No, sir, that certainly is a thing you wrote there.  And I thought people like you only existed in fairy tales.

I wanted to make this thread for two reasons:  1)  as an outlet to vent as my other avenues are inadequate at the time, and 2)  as a reminder for all of you that there is good to be found everywhere you look.  I may delete this thread at any time due to some sensitive self-disclosure.

The past three months have been emotionally and physically (mostly due to lack of sleep) trying and have pushed me places I never thought I would, or could, go.  During the past three months, the following has happened...

-  My father had a stroke.  He currently is unable to read or write and has no idea what month or year it is, or who the President is.
-  I've taken on the responsibility of handling my family's financial situation.  Because my father has lost his job, we will likely lose the family home.
-  I've also taken on the role as family counselor because my mother has been mentally ill for over 20 years and is unable to cope under the weight of the situation.
-  Speaking of counseling, I work as a Mental Health Counselor in a Chicago hospital adult psych unit.  I was assaulted by a patient, spent some time in the E.R., and am currently waiting for the results of HIV and HEP tests.  The patient, I believe, had a body fluid precaution.
-  I've been working overtime at the hospital and also work a 2nd job which has been consuming far more time than I originally anticipated.  I've averaged around 3 hours of sleep per night for the past 3 months.  I commute 2-3 hours per day to and from the hospital, and I feel perpetually behind with my other work despite trying my hardest to keep up with everything.
-  I live with a suicidal roommate and have woken up multiple nights at around 4 a.m. to the sounds of my roommate crying hysterically and busting holes through the walls.
-  My roommate also set our rental on fire.  Yes, on fire.  I was sleeping at the time and woke up to the smell of smoke.  About 5 more minutes and the whole house would've been engulfed.
-  My roommate also has a small dog that is very poorly trained.  Last week I came home to find food and pizza boxes spread everywhere.  That didn't really bother me; what bothered me was that he pissed on 2 computers, a recliner, 2 piles of clothing, and a pair of shoes.  They are (were) the clothes and shoes I wear to work.
-  My car got broken into.  My windshield now has a complete crack straight through the center of it and $600 was taken.
-  My best friend got into a car accident.  He suffered 3 broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a broken tibia.
-  I won't be with any family for Christmas, nor can I afford to buy or receive any gifts.
-  I've lost ~30 lbs.

I think that's about it.  There could be more, but even thinking about all of it is tiring for me.

But you know what?  Despite all that, I'm breathing.  And right now, I'm sitting in a (piss-stained) recliner talking on a (piss-stained) computer, and I'm OK.  I'm alive, I have shelter, I have (piss-stained) clothes, I have food, I have a sexy girlfriend, I have a post-graduate degree, I have not one, but two, jobs, I have my guitars, I have my mom and dad still alive and close by, my best friend did get engaged, I'm a small part of Bitcoin history, I live in a great city in a great state in a great country, and life is just...moving.  It's always moving.  And it keeps bringing you surprises.  And challenges.  And it keeps testing you in all the ways you need to be tested to make you stronger, for your stressors reveal your weaknesses.

I work with the highest-risk patients in any adult psych unit in Chicago, and what I've gone through in the past 3 months pales in comparison to what some of these unfortunate souls have been through, even if they made some (or many) mistakes along the way.  Someone out there always has it worse than you do.  Besides, the experience of pain is relative, and for some, ignorance makes that pain worse.  But I won't let ignorance make my pain worse.  I can see the good when I look for it.  It's all around you at every moment, and if you just look you'll see it too.  Count your blessings and you'll find they're innumerable.  Life's a bitch and then you get it on.

Happy Holidays!

I laughed when I saw this thread.  I've thought of doing this plenty of times.  Worn socks on ebay sell for like $10-$15 a pop regularly.  Now that's just silly.

I will try and work out if those linux variable are relevant for windows thanks. Actually that gives me another idea....try linux. I'm even more clueless when it comes to that thought.

Intensity all the way up to 20 only gives a max of 600kh/s for the pair.  Sad

For some reason Reaper doesn't like when I input aggression at 20.  19 seems to be my magic number for my 6970s and for my old 5870.

And I've never tried Linux, so I wouldn't know  Cheesy

2226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poor Radeon HD6950 Litecoin mining performance, need help. on: December 16, 2012, 06:10:08 PM
Hi Guys,
I've been having a number of problems setting up a litecoin mining rig.
I'm currently running a q6660 rig with 4gb DDR2 and 2x HD6950 cards.  First thing I did was a fresh install of windows 7 64bit. Installed the latest ATI drivers 12.10 (SDK 2.8 ). Then I tried to configure cgminer 2.10.0 and Reaperv13 beta. I did try unlocking the shaders and overclocking the 6950's (up to 925/1350, 1.2v), but since I've been having trouble I've gone back to stock settings.

Here are the configs I've been using:
Reaper litecoin.conf:
host coinotron.com
port 8322
user xxx
pass xxx
protocol litecoin
worksize 256
aggression 16
threads_per_gpu 4
sharethreads 18
lookup_gap 2
gpu_thread_concurrency 5632

Cgminer:
cgminer --scrypt -o http://coinotron.com:8322 -u xxx -p xxx --shaders 1480 --intensity 18 --worksize 128 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 8192

Ok so the first big problem is that I'm getting quite low hashing scores from these cards. Between 290-300kh/s from each max, total 600kh/s(from both cgminer and Reaper). The Litecoin hardware comparison (http://wiki.litecoin.net/index.php/Mining_hardware_comparison) indicates I should be getting another 100-200kh/s per card from these babies. A little disappointing.

Second problem, I read that using catalyst 11.2 and SDK 2.5 may give better performance. I installed these, and then found that both cgminer and reaper couldn't start the Opencl kernel and refused to mine (same configs). In fact the only way I could fix this at all was to just reinstall the catalyst 12.10 driver package. Messing about with the drivers was also frustrating, crashing, blue screens and install failures all over the place.

Third problem, one of my cards seems to be 'unlockable', guess that's unlucky. The other card unlocks the extra shaders then performs about 10% less in mining hashrate. Guess the extra shaders are not any good. (Probably no solution to this one but I just thought id moan about it anyway)

Is there anyone out there who can help me? I've just spent most of the weekend trying to get better performance to no avail Sad

First, try to increase the aggression from 16 to 18 or 19.

picked up $100 worth of nickels today at the bank when I cashed a check, the people looked at me like I was insaaaaaane

I'm doing this too on a slightly smaller scale.  With every paycheck, I'm taking out $20 in mint-rolled nickels and putting them aside.

2231  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Casascius Physical Bitcoin, 1st series on: December 07, 2012, 09:02:57 AM
I got 5 of these babies left and BTC 2.0 would make me part from one.

Pristine condition except the normal slight darkening of the metal (patina). Your other critera I will have to check, but I'm confident at least one of the coins will meet them.

I can send for acceptable shipping cost to anywhere (as letter or insured registered letter (with tracking), which I'd prefer. EDIT: If you give me your country via PM or here I can get you exact quote for shipping. I'll have to check wether it'd be insured, but I have sent silver coins across the globe in this way and they all arrived provably). Europe and especially germany would be cheaper because that's where I'd send from.

EDIT2: Just checked shipping cost:

  • untracked letter to most countries of the world (I checked Canada and Columbia): 0,75 EUR =~ 0.075 BTC
  • same, but tracked: 2,10 EUR =~ 0.21 BTC

I'll do it for 2.21 BTC shipped to the U.S.
2232  Economy / Goods / [WTB] Casascius Physical Bitcoin, 1st series on: December 07, 2012, 07:09:41 AM
Hello,

I'm looking to buy one (1) Casascius physical bitcoin.

Requirements:
1.)  Must be Series 1
2.)  Hologram must not be broken, and the coin's address must contain 1 BTC which must be the same 1 BTC loaded by Casascius.  I do not want a coin where the 1 BTC was spent and then replaced, nor do I want a coin to which additional BTC have been added.
3.)  Seller must be reputable, and I will be the judge of reputable.

I am willing to pay BTC2 for one of these babies.

So, who's got one?   Cheesy

@ ssateneth

I would do 7 BTC + shipping costs, but I'm only looking for payment in BTC as I was otherwise going to buy some anyway.  How long would it take you to procure the BTC?  I'm looking to sell quickly, so if someone else jumps in with a higher offer, I might be swayed to sell to them if they are willing to make payment immediately.

@ abracadabra

I'm in the western suburbs of Chicago.

Remember, karma is real, especially if I chose to enact it after things fall into motion.

Remember, karma is cause and effect, and you will see this 'enacted' as your bike falls into the ocean.
2235  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 5870 with loose fan on: November 27, 2012, 09:10:15 PM
Hi. I live in wisconsin, so cheap shipping. Is the card reference or something else? If non-reference, got a brand/model? Also can you describe the fan symptoms? Does the fan scream/squeal, or is it a rattly sound? Does the fan tilt on its axis or can you only (lightly) pull it straight up and down? Just need to know if I can fix this or have to replace it. One of my reference 5870 fans has disintegrated on the inside. It almost feels like the metal axle has separated from the fan itself, but I'll found out soon when my fan from china arrives Wink

The card looks like this

I think it's a reference card?  I can adjust the voltage and drop the mem to 150...please correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't that a sign of a reference card?

The fan does not scream or squeal, but it does make the rattly sound as if the fan is nicking the heatsink or something.  When I took the card out and gently spun the fan manually with my finger, I could feel it was very slightly loose.  It seems as if the fan can be pulled straight up and down a very tiny bit, and the fan can be pushed from side to side an even tinier bit.  As soon as I heard the noise, the card was out of my computer within 5 minutes.  When the card runs, it would be quiet for a second, then get loud for a few seconds, then quiet again, then loud, then quiet, etc.  It seems to be shifting in and out of it's central position when it spins.

Hope this helps Smiley

To hate another is to hate yourself, we are all the same.

If I'm the same as you, and if you own the watch, then I must own the watch, too!  When you/I sell it, I expect 142 BTC.

Hello,

I'd be shipping from Illinois.  I'll ship internationally at 7 BTC + shipping costs.  I haven't checked, but I'm guessing shipping would be like 2-4 BTC.

2239  Economy / Goods / [WTS] 5870 with loose fan [SOLD] on: November 18, 2012, 06:23:12 AM
Hello!

I'm looking to sell a used, refurbished 5870.  It has a loose fan that started becoming noisy two days ago.  You will receive the card only, packaged nicely and in an anti-static bag.  You will need to fix/replace the fan.

Looking to sell for 4.5 BTC shipped, or toss out an offer Smiley  The card has been mining for about 6 months solid at around 60C at 975/170, undervolted.

The only requirement is payment in BTC up front.  I have plenty of feedback upon request.

+1 TECSHARE

I purchased a 2009 1g rhodium coin from the Cohen Mint from TECSHARE.  I paid first, and the coin arrived extremely fast.  The coin was packaged beautifully in an airtight case and came with two certificates of authenticity.

Great service and communication from TECSHARE!  I would absolutely do business again.
