How thick are they?  What's the surface like (e.g. smooth, textured)?
2042  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: HELP! Lost wallet password! on: July 11, 2013, 09:41:16 PM
If you want to avoid the trust issue with sending your wallet.dat to someone with the hope they will be able to recover your password, you could try auctioning your wallet.dat to someone who would know how to brute force it.  That way you could just open a new wallet with a password you can write down and have someone send you some fresh coins.

But of course they'd have to place their trust in you that the rest of your password is correct because cracking an 11 character password with no known characters would take a super long time Cheesy
2043  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Avalon Asics (2), In hand and ready to ship 180BTC each or 350BTC for both on: July 11, 2013, 09:33:29 PM
As a consumer interested in potentially purchasing an in-hand ASIC, here are my considerations:

1)  Difficulty has risen 300+% in the past 90 days
2)  The rate at which ASICS are reaching consumers is increasing, not decreasing.
3)  Points 1 and 2 reveal that, at current difficulty, an extremely optimistic estimate places my daily income within 6 months at ~$22 per day.  A much more realistic estimate, and still a potentially optimistic one, places my daily income within 6 months at ~$4-8 per day.

This being said, I'd be interested at around 50-120 BTC for the device, depending on which scenario I consider to be most likely.  The only reason I would even consider paying more than 100 BTC right now for one of these ASICs is due to the potential that the price of Bitcoin will rise substantially over the coming months, and this is by no means a guarantee.

Put another way, I would only purchase an ASIC if I was very confident that I would meet or exceed 100% ROI within ~6 months.

2045  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much weight can I lose with this plan? on: July 09, 2013, 12:35:19 PM
So I have a plan to lose weight. I was eating over 2500 calories a day which made me overweight but now I am on a half calorie a day diet where I only eat around half of the recommended 2500 daily allowance (for a male) so around 1400 calories a day.

Bad idea.

You will lose weight and kill your metabolism simultaneously.

There is no such thing as overeating if you exercise enough.
2046  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How is Bitcoin worth something in another currency? on: June 22, 2013, 07:56:55 PM
So, how is an online cryptographic currency worth, for example, over $100 US dollars?

Belief.
2047  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] - 11 BFL singles, perfect condition, with power bricks on: June 17, 2013, 11:56:50 PM
Yochdog, your thread is making me feel like an asshole for offering you a very serious 10 BTC (total) for 5 singles.

At current prices and difficulty it will still take me over 3 months to achieve 100% ROI, and as you and I know, ASICs are only beginning to reach consumers.

10 BTC for 5 singles is my offer.
2048  Economy / Goods / Re: Now on Bitmit: Wristwatches! on: June 15, 2013, 06:53:36 PM
Thanks for giving me your thoughts. I'd also choose the gold model, since it goes well with my gold rings. What do you think about the price? Too high? Too low? Just right? Keep in mind that the cost of shipping is included.

I think the price is fair, but keep in mind I don't have much knowledge about watches Smiley

I would choose the gold/brown one.  To me, it's colors exude higher quality and sophistication, and given that I'll be working primarily with nursing home residents for the next year, I think it'd receive more compliments from older populations.  Gold things are pretty Smiley

Taking offers as well!

I'm interested in the platinum eagle at 1.5 BTC.  I realize the premiums on platinum coins, especially the small ones, are high, but I thought I'd just toss that out there in case you're looking to liquidate quickly.
2056  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you had the money, would buy yourself a megayacht? on: June 05, 2013, 10:41:50 PM
I would if it would stop you from posting.

Also, 'bitcoin', now this thread is relevant?

It's in the "off-topic" subforum.  This post is relevant to that subforum, and the results of such a survey question would provide us with some cross-sectional data on the consumerist attitudes of the bitcointalk population.

And no, I wouldn't buy a mega yacht.  Maybe a kila yacht.
2057  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-06-03 CJIL: Bringing Bitcoin within the Reach of the IMF on: June 05, 2013, 04:55:56 AM
No, they can't achieve control that way.

1. It's not possible to accumulate a significant proportion of the current supply without pushing the price up commensurately. And as is pointed out in the OP, the legitimacy is also pushed up. Incentive to sell back to fiat is further lessened.

Yes, it absolutely is possible.  In fact, it's possible to accumulate a significant proportion of the current supply while pushing the price down in the process.
2058  Economy / Goods / [WTS] N64 and SNES Game Boxes on: June 03, 2013, 01:02:23 AM
Hello,

On ebay, video game boxes can actually be quite valuable.  Seeing as how older video games are quickly becoming collectibles, collectors are interested in the "complete package."  Often times, boxes and manuals are lost or destroyed and only the games remain.

I recently lost nearly all I own in a flood about a month ago, and most of my other game boxes were destroyed (really, it's a shame, I had about 50 like-new boxes from old, rare video games including the Dragon Warrior series from NES and the entire release lineup of N64 games).

Fortunately, a few boxes were high enough above ground that no water touched them and they're still in good condition.

I'm looking to sell all of the following boxes for 0.75 BTC

Most notable boxes include:
-  The Legend of Zelda:  Ocarina of Time (N64, includes manual, fair condition)
-  Secret of Evermore (SNES, includes some inserts, good condition)  RARE)
-  Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64, includes manual, excellent condition)  RARE
-  Super Mario All-Stars (SNES, includes manual, good condition

other boxes:
-  Quest 64 (N64)
-  NBA Jam 99 (N64)
-  F-1 World Grand Prix (N64)
-  NFL Blitz (N64)

Price is 0.75 BTC shipped to lower 48 for all eight boxes.  International orders are 1 BTC

**If you are interested in also purchasing the games to go with the boxes, I should have most of them, but it will, of course, cost extra.

If you want another 20 or so N64 boxes that are visually intact I will include them at no additional cost.  However, they are still damp from the flood, and they are essentially stuck together -- if you pry them apart I guarantee you that they will be damaged further.  But, they do happen to be stuck together in a very neat and tidy way  Roll Eyes

2060  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTS] 48,000 XRP on: June 02, 2013, 05:59:21 AM
Why not just sell them within the ripple client?  ~6857 is right about what they are going for.  No safer way than that.

Just sold them via PM.  Smooth as silk.
