2221  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: That's it, ASIC gen1 shipping is over, waiting for Gen2? on: November 17, 2013, 12:45:15 PM
Well, looking at the hashrate (finally) hitting a wall, I can only speculate that BFL have ended shipping en masse...

So, the world is taking a breath and getting ready for Gen2 ASIC?  Or is this there something I missed with the reason the hashrate stalled?

First of all, I see no wall. The network growth has slowed somewhat, but is still growing by 2% per day, thats almost doubling per month.
http://bitcoin.sipa.be/

Secondly, as others pointed out, the reason for this is that "no one" is shipping. KnC is taking a break but will resume in 5-10 days, HF is delayed but Im still guessing they will ship in December, CT, BFL, Bitmine, ActM, Black Arrow and all the rests are yet to come. All thats being added right now afaik, is  almost obsolete 65nm BFL rigs, and some bitfury based devices, but thats still enough to make network growth quite substantial.

Lastly, I wonder what you call "gen 1" and "gen 2". Arguably asicminer and avalon where gen 1, and from there it gets blurry, but I certainly wouldnt put KnC in the same category as those 110nm chips, nor would I put HF and CT in a very different one. Whatever you want to call it, the deployment of 28nm asics hasnt plateaued, it has barely even started. Only one batch has been shipped from one single supplier.
2222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Urgent! Need to raise ~$1,200 USD in 24 hrs for South Pole expedition. on: November 17, 2013, 12:10:25 PM
Love this project.

Do we have any climbers in our community who can plant a flag at the top of Mt. Everest?  Or divers willing to submerge to the bottom of the Mariana Trench?

Mariana trench is easy, just drop a flag that sinks Smiley
Grabbing a picture might be tough though Smiley

These accounts are very reassuring for at least 4 main reasons:

There are some entries that raise my eyebrows though

Computer and Internet Expenses 26,973
Travel Expense 12,939

Who is travelling where for that kind of money?

Also if  $25K was spent on advertising, Ive not seen a lot of that yet.

BTW Ken, at least put the currency somewhere on your reports. Im going to assume its US dollar, and not Belizian dollar (or BTC), but we shouldnt have to guess.
2224  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Labcoin Official Thread - Self-Moderated on: November 16, 2013, 12:22:37 PM
Thats a great idea, lets ask ghash to become judge and jury and seize  customers assets based  on some forum posters saying they have a valid claim. Im also going to ask mtgox to block bitmit's account because some product I ordered on bitmit hasnt arrived yet.
2225  Other / Meta / Re: Building a new trust list... Why should I trust you? on: November 15, 2013, 03:25:30 PM
SImple, empty the list, trust no one.
Wasnt one of the key points of bitcoin to eliminatie counter party risk? If we need to trust someone based on forum posts, we are doing something wrong.
2226  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bitcurex.com - official thread on: November 15, 2013, 03:03:04 PM
Last time I opened a support ticket at bitcurex it took like 2 weeks to get a response.
2227  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: November 15, 2013, 10:47:22 AM

All the more reason for Ken to get our machines up and running, proving to the world we can attain a huge hashrate. Once we show we have 100TH/s or more, people will want to buy our machines.

Come on Ken! Lets get hashing!

What with the obsession of getting hashrate online? If its done with 3rd party hardware, its basically a waste of money. Once it can be  done with their own asic's, the company would be far better off selling them.

Friendly Bump:

Out of curiosity, how big is your first batch, and what kind of production volume do you hope to achieve?
2230  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC-Technologies.com Legit? [CONFIRMED SCAM] on: November 15, 2013, 07:16:07 AM
You can also find threads saying BFL is a scam. And KNC. And HF. And CT. And Avalon.
Just sayin'
2231  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: November 14, 2013, 11:02:20 PM
Just saw this in the product spec of the sierra and BJ:

At the wall, this unit consumes 1 watt per gigahash +/- 20%

Is that new? The chips where supposed to achieve 0.65GH/W. From there to 1GH/W at the wall seems a big difference to account for inefficiencies and cooling..
2232  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: November 14, 2013, 09:22:46 PM
I've worked with the guys over at Cool IT Systems. They are a good group of people and engineers and I've used their solutions in my personal computer for low acoustic CPU cooling.

I dont want to trivialize water cooling too much (particularly having no experience with it), but at this point, I think the cooling solution is probably among the least of CT customers concerns.

I dont recall Josh ever using that tone before. If you wouldnt know him any better, you might even think he is sincere. Makes me wonder, what changed? Are they finally getting some heat from the FTC or something?
2234  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: November 14, 2013, 04:07:45 PM
IM not asking for money from anyone, Im gauging interest in icelandic hosting. If you cant see the difference between that and those large bright "just-satoshi-dice-bet" ads in sigs of people usually posting nonsense posts,  feel free to put me on your ignore.

/end of OT.
2235  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: November 14, 2013, 03:15:27 PM
its not an ad, its not a paid ad, its not in obnoxious bright color, and Im not posting single line nonsense posts in every thread just to push my ad (or increase my post count so I can sell my sig space).

Other than that, great point.
2236  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [FAILED]Butterfly Labs 30 day countdown to the end of September on: November 14, 2013, 02:21:05 PM
I say they will be done earlier. Not because I expect shipping to pick up pace, but because order volume will have dropped significantly and these 65nm miners are beginning to get pointless. As a result many of these orders will be converted in to 28nm orders that will be delivered, well maybe 12 months from here by which time they will have become equally pointless and perhaps there will be an upgrade program to their 20nm chip Smiley.
2237  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: November 14, 2013, 01:41:52 PM
Click Profile - Look and Layout Preferences - Don't show users' signatures.
Much more efficient than hitting "ignore" repeatedly.

Yeah I know, but many profile sigs are actually worth reading, and most posts containing flashy gambling links in their sig arent, so I prefer my method, I think its more efficient Smiley.
2238  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Labcoin Official Thread - Self-Moderated on: November 14, 2013, 01:37:46 PM
do you honestly think NONE of the Labcoin investors contacted Itech Pro to see if Labcoin was legit?
i'm sure at least one or two did and probably got some email evidence from Mr Fabreeze saying "yeah we run the Labcoin project"

AFAIK, I was the first to contact Fabr and I got a "I decline all responsibility" response I published here like a month or so ago.
If anyone contacted Fabr prior to that (not through IRC, but through linkedin/facebook/google plus/ telephone), and got a different answer, I would love to hear about it.
2239  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Labcoin Official Thread - Self-Moderated on: November 14, 2013, 01:29:15 PM
yes it does it appears in the prospectus and then again in the Cryptostocks relisting.

Above or below the link to Bill Gates' Linkedin profile?

If Alberto was/is involved

I think by now we can drop the "if".

Quote
He has written several articles about bitcoin, he has been involved with bitcoin and bitcoin related scams since 2011. to my knowledge there is nothing tracing Fabrizio back that far.. so why would Alberto get involved after Labcoin collapsed.. its more logical that Alberto introduced Fabrizio to bitcoin...

I agree its quite likely Alberto introduced Fabr to bitcoin. That doesnt mean he convinced Fabr to (knowingly) participate in a scam. In all likelihood Alberto presented this as a legitimate business opportunity (maybe he even believed that himself at that point) and they went out to gather input from designers and fabs, using Fabr shelf company. However in July Fabr began working at Zopo;  he clearly has a thing for mobile phones, this doesnt sound like a bad job opportunity for him at all, so he likely dropped the whole bitcoin thing.  Its only after that, that Alberto decided to do an IPO to raise the funds and/or walk away with the funds.

Does that mean Fabr had nothing to do with "labcoin"? No, and he will for sure be asked lots of questions, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt of not having any responsibility in taking investors money and running away with it. All I ask is people do the same.
