it should, but it'll be very close
2262  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: which is the cheapest motherboard that support 6 video card without problem? on: August 25, 2011, 02:35:19 AM
pci to pci-e adapter should work, although these adapters are not cheap either.
2263  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: which is the cheapest motherboard that support 6 video card without problem? on: August 25, 2011, 02:27:15 AM
i believe MSI 890FXA-GD70 or GD65 can run 6 slots. i personally have not tested it with this many though. i use the MSI xpower Big Bang x58 for 6 cards right now, it can support 7, but i have not tested it for the 7th card yet. i will soon though, when my build is complete. it's not exactly a cheap board though, about $300 for the motherboard and $200 for CPU. i haven't been good with updating performance numbers, but here's more info if you want to follow this specific motherboard:

everything's gone and already shipped. for those that PM'ed me and was not able to get one, i hope you guys are able to find them elsewhere.
2265  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [FS] pci-e extension cables (with or without molex power) on: August 25, 2011, 12:11:11 AM
i'm currently out of the x1 and x1-to-x16 extension cables. i'll probably get more in the future. anyone that already ordered cables should have tracking numbers in PMs.

you accept BTC as well?
yes i can take BTC
2266  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: [pics inside] custom built 8-card rack on: August 24, 2011, 08:06:09 AM
ok it's pretty much done, i just have to connect all the wires and power it on.

i shorted the two presence pins with a small wire on each of the pci-e slots. this motherboard requires it if using pci-e x1 extension cables.

2267  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How will amd 7000 series effect mining? on: August 24, 2011, 07:56:27 AM
ElectricMucus pretty much summarized it. the 7xxx will have a die shrink to 28nm. these new chips will probably also have architecture improvement, although that doesn't affect mining, as seen in the 6xxx series. 6xxx is better for gaming per stream processor because of the architecture improvements from the 5xxx series, but mining does not discriminate from architecture efficiencies. what mining does take advantage will be the power efficiencies that will come with the 7xxx series. it would only makes sense that there will be a lower power consumption at the same performance level because of the die shrink, unless AMD decides to keep power requirements the same and add more shaders instead.
2268  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Powercolor AX6870X2 @ Newegg for $450 on: August 24, 2011, 03:01:05 AM
The point here is that for all you who sometimes think that bitcoin mining is somehow "showing up" on the radar of Radeon manufacturers or that bitcoin mining is making the video card sales go though the roof:

sorry, they have no clue...  we don't exist. Smiley
first of all, manufacturers don't make the video cards to tailor it to miners. second, there's no association of mining and memory underclocking. yes, a lot of people on this forum know that you're suppose to underclock the memory to save power and lower temps, but it's not automatic knowledge that you're suppose to do that, and people that barely heard of mining wouldn't even think about doing something like this. and third, you're not suppose to change any of the stock specs that shipped with the video card. this is something that's considered voiding your warranty. at least if you're going to do that, don't let manufacturers know. of course, they do know that a lot of people overclock their cards, but just don't openly admit to it.
2269  Economy / Goods / Re: Remote (network) control power switch for clusters - coming soon on: August 23, 2011, 06:29:26 PM
if it connects by USB, what if the computer locks ups? don't you need a responsive computer to hit the power or reset button?

2271  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What's the purpose of providing 12v to the pcie extender ? is 5 GPU too much ? on: August 23, 2011, 02:09:42 AM
so I conclude it's mostly needed for a 5+ card setup.

yeah, the wire will barely be able to handle the current draw. but would you really want 144w (more than 4 cards) of power being shoved into the motherbaord before it can be passed through to the pci-e lanes? i would think it's better to use the extra molex power wire to draw directly from the PSU. of course, these things are not very cheap either.

i've been trying to connect to mtgox for the past 15 minutes, and the site won't load. server problems? ddos?
2274  Economy / Computer hardware / [FS] custom length PCI-E extension cables (with or without molex power) on: August 22, 2011, 08:47:16 PM
i have various pci-e extension cables i can sell, all brand new, but i will personally test them all first before shipping if requested. a normal extension cable is 19cm found at many places, but i also have 12cm cables for the purpose of reducing cable clutter or easier to manage. the 26cm should be long enough to 6-8 card racks, or if you just want to extend longer than what standard cables provide. i believe i'm the only one that sell them in custom 26cm and 12cm long:

pci-e x1 cable standard 19cm: $7 each

pci-e x1 cable 12cm: $9 each

pci-e x1 cable 26cm: $9 each

pci-e x1 to x16 cable (v1 or v2) standard 19cm: $10 each

pci-e x1 to x16 cable (v1 or v2) 12cm: $12 each

pci-e x1 to x16 cable (v1 or v2) 26cm: $12 each

pci-e x16 cable standard 19cm: $10 each

i will add a custom molex power connector to each of them for an additional $6, just tell me how long you want the power cable to be. if you don't already know the purpose of doing this, it's so that the power drawn through the motherobard and pci-e slots now gets drawn directly from the PSU. doing this is better for your motherboard and certain PSU wires, and adds stability to your GPUs.

SHIPPING: $2 for the first one, 50cents for each additional item within the US. International is $5. i do my best to ship same day of payment, or the day after, depending on what time i receive the payment. It takes 2-3 days to receive the package within the US, about a week in Canada, and 1-2 weeks for the rest of the countries.

additional info on the cables: the pci-e x1 to x16 adapter cables comes in version1 (v1) or version2 (v2). they're different in only the connection heads. v1 is just a standard x1 cable cut so that you can insert it to a x16 pins of the video card. v2 is not cut, but comes standard with a x16 slot to connect to the x16 pins of the video card. they both work exactly the same, it's just if you prefer the extra long connection slot or not. the custom molex power connector wire is soldered onto the 5 spliced wires of the extension cable. this soldering instead of just crimpling provides a little extra durability as well as reduces any voltage drops across the connections. i used extra thick 16guage black wires for this.

now my references: i have 120 feedback on heatware, and ebay has 52. here's also a handful of people i've had transactions with on this forum:

2275  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What's the purpose of providing 12v to the pcie extender ? is 5 GPU too much ? on: August 22, 2011, 08:29:59 PM
that's too much. even 4 for me is too much for a high end card. i measured that each of my 5870 pulls a little over 25w just through the pci-e slots, so when i had 4 of them on there, they pulled over 100w through the motherboard just for the video cards. i can't imagine this not affecting the GPU stability. putting that extra molex power connector like the one sold on cablesaurus will let the GPU pull the power directly from the PSU instead of going through the motherboard first
2276  Economy / Goods / Re: Sh1337 is a scammer, beware! on: August 22, 2011, 03:46:54 AM
Sh1337, where is your proof you sent back the BTC? this is pretty much the equivalent of you shoplifting and getting caught, and you swear that you payed for it yet you don't have the receipt and there's no record of the transaction on the store's computer. why don't you take a screenshot of your bitcoin client to show that you received the 10 BTC, and also sent it back to the same address. this is something easy to do, but if you're unable to do it, you just confirmed yourself a scammer.
2277  Economy / Marketplace / Re: List of honest traders. on: August 21, 2011, 09:37:55 PM
i've had several people i've had successful transactions with on here. anything in bold were exceptionally great transactions:

SNAPCALLHERO: met up with him in person for a pretty large purchase of many items. he gave a deal for buying multiple things.

wizang: bought a video card off him, he shipped after payment, i received a couple days later, card works great.

ataranlen: he bought an unused game off me, he sent the BTC and i sent the code, very quick, easy, and hassle-free transaction

deslok: he bought a KVM off me, i couldn't find all the cables it came with so threw in some mismatched cables and he was ok with it, shipped it out and he received it.

toasty: i bought 10 flash drives from him. they all came with only 3.27gb instead of close to the 4gb, so he was very helpful in trying to help me re-partition it.

critical: he bought 4x 5850 from me, i personally delivered it to him an hour later after i got the payment, and everyone's happy.

Trini8ed: he rented 7gh/s of mining from me for 24 hours, he sent payment first and i started to mine on his pool. there were some connection problems with his end of the server, so he didn't get the full 7gh/s speed, but he didn't give fuss about it.

amazingrando: bought many video cards from me, and it was one of the larger transactions i've had. he paid everything in full plus a little extra, so i refunded him the difference. everything was smooth.

cuongnq: very negotiable and i bought several brand new things from him. i had several transactions with him, not just one.

pigki: i found out he was local to me, so i met up with him at his house two different times for 2 separate purchases. great guy to meet with in person, had a small chit chat about bitcoins also.

bob777fred: one of the best transactions i've had. he was a new member, had no pictures of the item, and had no prior transactions or feedback, so i asked him to ship first. not only did he give a discount for buying two, but he had huge balls to ship me 2 video cards before i even paid him. it takes a lot of trust to do that, so i fully vouch for his legitimacy.

2279  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Estimating heat output - 5850 on: August 20, 2011, 11:28:27 AM
A 5850 only uses about 150w.
Overclocked 5850's generate more than this Wink My rig is set up for 920/325 and its 5 cards. According to my kw reader its about 1kw so closer to 170w per card.
it actually generates less. 5850's TDP is 150w, that means it's designed to dissipate 150w of heat. the actual usage, even at 100% load, will draw less than 150w. overclocking the core (however underclocking the memory) might put you close to the TDP, but it shouldn't go over unless there's heavy overvolting.

and also note that AC and DC power are a little different. the rated 150w TDP is based on DC pulled from the PSU, when you read 1000w your meter, that's AC power, which is pulled from the wall. in this case, you need to take into account the PSU efficiency before claiming it's 170w of real DC power draw
2280  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Cost of Four 5850's on: August 20, 2011, 08:48:58 AM
that chart has a lot of variance, so those prices are greatly dependent on when you buy them, where you buy them, and if they're on sale or not. 5850s were once $140 before mining got popular, now it's nearly impossible to find them new anymore. you might run into a new one on ebay or seller on here, but expect over $200 for a new one, or around $150-180ish for a used one
