2301  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Price Drop Cause? on: December 18, 2013, 06:19:17 AM
I too am curious about the price drop. Normally whenever there is major news that effects the price majorly, there are thousands of links circulating to media announcements. I can't seem to find any besides the coindesk article which everyone keeps referencing.

It may just be me hoping that BTC goes back up, but I'm thinking that there is some major price manipulation going on by someone who knows how to spark panic. Same with then China said that Bitcoins weren't currency, people got all panicky and then the price went back up.
2302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Development on: December 18, 2013, 04:57:59 AM
I too am interested, however I am quite weary. Even early Bitcoin Asic companies did not have much luck, and the theory behind mining a SHA based coin with an Asic device is far less convoluted. I'm still hesitant to believe that such hardware could have been developed in such a short amount of time. I handled SHA based ASIC devices somewhat similar in architecture to Bitcoin miners 5+ years ago, therefor it didn't come as a shock that it could be made to suit Bitcoin's needs.

I'll be watching your releases, but I doubt anyone that has been around for more than a year will be on board with the preorder scene. The BFL situation was a mess, and the Asic companies that went under taking their funds with them even worse. I have a hard time seeing this go more smoothly for you, but for your own sake and those that do choose to preorder, I wish you all the best of luck. There would have to be outstanding circumstance in order to get me to preorder anything.

That being said, I will have no trouble ordering after seeing you ship a batch out.
2303  Other / Off-topic / Re: A waitress asked for my autograph. on: December 18, 2013, 04:15:35 AM
Yesterday morning I stopped at a cafe, oppose to the dinky service station available at that exit, for a cup of coffee for the road and to take a shit (apologies to the non-coffee drinkers  Roll Eyes). I asked the pretty petite girl donning the usual metal, once only saved for earlobes, if they took Bitcoin. She replied no, but said she heard about it when I asked her. Then I told her who I was. Come to find out, she has visited BitcoinTalk, and her sister is a big Bitcoin fan, of which is probably a member here. She asked for my autograph, of which is going to be given to her sister as a Christmas present, having to now no longer worrying about what to give her.

Soon, I'll be able to charge $400K USD for speaking fees, along with charging 1 BTC for lap dances at bridal showers. I've noticed more and more people staring at me in public now ever since Bitcoin started to enter the mainstream. I don't know what my future agent will be charging for commercials, but the first one I'll do free minus expenses since I'm a nice guy.

I look forward to the girl that received my autograph as a Christmas present to post here and state how happy she was/is.

Let me know when you start offering those lapdances. I have many enemies and bitcoins.
2304  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: selling casascius on ebay: how to on: December 18, 2013, 01:21:51 AM
how do i sell casascius coins on ebay, without risking a chargeback?

even if i ship the coin with tracking and signature confirmation, i'm afraid they will say "item is not as described" and then what do i do?

i think not accepting paypal would be the way around this?, but then what payment options are there where i am protected, and it's easy enough for the buyer that i'll still get plenty of bids?

any advice appreciated.

Almost, not accepting Paypal or any other payment methods that one can chargeback with is the answer. Sadly, you can't not take paypal for a listing on Ebay.

I'd be happy to, pms sent all around.

Yar, rather than fixing the profile picture issue, Theymos just went ahead and commissioned a complete overhaul with new forum software. I'd imagine that you will be able to upload avatars after its completion.
2308  Other / Meta / Re: Versus Category on: December 16, 2013, 06:25:16 AM
Many threads are just repetitive FUD to be honest, and it would be nice to have some place to put them them that can be easily ignored.

2309  Other / Meta / Re: Versus Category on: December 16, 2013, 06:22:12 AM
I don't think we need a seperate Vs. section, as just about every thread has some sort of Vs. Conflict going on.
2310  Other / Meta / Re: Staff members advertising on: December 15, 2013, 07:30:26 AM
I don't really see the problem, a lot of staff members advertise businesses. If they would personally recommend the business or service, I don't see why not put it in sig if they have the space. Cyrus is probably getting paid to have it in their sig, but that still shouldn't matter if they still like the site and would recommend it under normal circumstances, and even if not, as long as its not a currently known scam site that is going to steal someone's money, why not? Psy is a global moderator and has an advertisement in sig. Staff should be as neutral as possible in their moderation policies, but as far as what they decided to post on their profile, thats up to them in my opinion anyway.

Posts that actually posed questions to me were responded to via pm. If you wish to ask me questions, please do it via pm. If you want to start a conversation on the definition of freedom of speech, do so in off topic or politics and society.

Ok cool.

For future reference, periodically check this place where I got the server

http://www.higheredsurplus.com/sms/ufl,fl/list/past?page=0&sortBy=end&orgid=1239&sorg=&show=past&posting=listPast&masscopy_process=&keyWord=v20z&startDate=Jul+02%2C+2013&endDate=Oct+03%2C+2013&catId=&refresh=Search

You can see there were many.  Here is auction block now

http://www.higheredsurplus.com/sms/ufl,fl/list/current?orgid=1239

This is a rolling auction - it's always on.  Don't be fooled by the furniture.  I get oscilloscopes off here.  I have gotten many gems like 100's of sticks of ram, and lots of 100's of core2duo cpu's at insane prices.  When servers hit this list they hit like mad, so FYI contact me and perhaps we can work something because their policy is in person with cashier's checks only.  Stuff just goes to waste really.

neat, I like old outdated hardware, I just need to find more space to put it. If I see something come up that I can't live without, I might take you up on that offer.

Well I've got 24 boxes at the moment, but those will probably be gone by Monday.

Put me next in line! Smiley

nachius is before me, however if that falls through I'll take it.

Scratch that, I just did some measuring, and I don't think I have space for it.

2317  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: December 13, 2013, 03:24:17 AM
I didn't know peoples' panties got so bunched as to report the posts here. This thread is a joke and frankly should be shut down. Ken should post his announcements in the announcement thread like he does and should NOT have to spend a moment babysitting a bunch of trolls and crybabies. We already have the troll (er, I mean 'unofficial') thread going so this one doesn't really serve any additional purpose except for troll bait.

If Ken wishes to abandon the thread to post in an unspammed topic, he is welcome to move it to Off Topic, and then people would be welcome to spam and yell at each other as much as they wish.

Anyway! If you have any questions, please feel free to pm me. I'm always happy to explain my positions, moderating policy, etc, as the day that I'm unable to adequetly explain my reasoning, is the day that I change it. I tend to leave self moderated topics alone, except for when they are getting swamped such as this one.
2318  Other / Meta / Re: It would be nice if the site filtered out referral URLs on: December 13, 2013, 03:20:12 AM
Referal links are generally acceptable if they are solicited. For example, if I was asking someone for information on Cryptsy, someone is welcome to give me information + their referal link. People just posting their referal links and nothing else, or no helpful information is quite annoying.

2320  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: December 13, 2013, 03:13:21 AM
I'm not sure why anyone has the right to request the help of a moderator in a self-moderated thread?

True, however there is far to much here for Ken to handle by himself. Quite honestly, I do find you somewhat entertaining, although you are a lead source of instigation here. I'd ask that you either stay at least somewhat on topic from now on, or please refrain from posting here. We will call it just an informal warning.

And to be completely fair, everyone is reporting everyone here. There are the pro active mining people who are reporting people who "slander" and the anti active mining people who are reporting people for a variety of other things. Its just a mess.

You are completely welcome to have your own opinions, you can insult people within reason, (30 word sentences of slurrs are not within reason) this thread should be for information about Active Mining, whether official or speculation. Its difficult reading any sort of updates or important announcements when 9 out of 10 posts are people fighting and posting off topic.

*edit* 17 posts here have been reported today, 13 of which were bad reports.
