2321  Economy / Goods / FS: *brand new* 5850 sapphire on: August 13, 2011, 02:27:01 AM
i have a couple of new sapphire 5850 xtreme i'll be getting in a couple of days. i'll be selling some of them, and keep some for myself. fedex tracking number 429268229901 so you can check yourself when it arrives, but it's expected on tuesday.

i'll be selling it around the same price as a 6870, so around $180 + shipping. why these are better than 6870? same power consumption as a 6870, but more shaders and faster hash rate. it's also easier to down clock memory into the 200-300mhz range to save more power. and lastly, the availability: it's nearly impossible to find anymore, especially in brand new condition  Wink

i'm not in a rush to get rid of them, so there's not much wiggle room for pricing. if i'm desperate to sell, then i'll eventally lower price. they fit in a USPS flat rate priority box, so shipping is $10 maximum for each one. if you're closer to me, i can package it with my own box and savings in shipping costs will be passed on to you. i have 109 feedback on heatware, and 33 feedback on ebay, and HERE is a list of a handful of people i've done transactions with on this forum

mine works fine for windows, so perhaps you want to temporarily switch to windows to see if you have the same problem?
2323  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Two identical computers have a 150 watt difference, how could this be? on: August 12, 2011, 07:30:58 PM
every video card and CPU is different, even if they come from the exact same batch. some are lucky chips in that they overclock really high, some are "bad" chips in that they're crappy overclockers or require a lot of voltage to achieve the same clocks when overclocking. now your problem could be that in the rig with 790w, you have some high leakage chips in there. a high leakage chip is one that will draw massive amounts of power with just a tiny bump in voltage or clocks.

try doing this: leave everything the same, and switch the 4x 5830 from one rig to the other, and do the same with the rig, then measure the power. if the power consumption numbers switched as well, then you know it's from the GPUs. but if those power consumption numbers don't switch, then you know it's from the CPU/motherboard/PSU/etc.

what problems are you having getting more than 3 cards to work? i've had 4 cards with extenders, as well as 4 cards plugged directly into the motherboard, and it works fine.

although, there was an issue when i had 4 highly overclocked 5870 plugged straight into the motherboard. i'm guessing the pci-e was pulling too much power through the motherboard, and it would occasionally shut off. after i decreased the overclocks on all of them, the 4 cards + motherboard are running fine right now.

the MSI xpower big bang X58 (intel) board is also running fine with 5 extenders right now
2325  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How many kWh are you using a month? on: August 12, 2011, 07:14:31 PM
I'm boggling at the electric usage and the fact the police haven't kicked your doors in yet.
They seem to like spying on electric use and using it as probably cause. That is unless you don't live in a police state.
so they bust down your door... then what? they'll see a bunch of video cards, and will have to pay for the door  Cheesy. not like you're doing anything illegal with these

I'm surprised also.  I called the police and my power company when I started this.  Both were confused.  The police said that they have no way of knowing unless the power company turns me in.  The power company said that they aren't allowed to turn anyone in.
why would you call the police for "permission", and why would the electric company care about it (as long as they get your money)?
2326  Economy / Goods / Re: For Sale, Three 5870's on: August 12, 2011, 10:46:32 AM
i'm not going to thread crap, but just a suggestion that it should be less than ebay's price. sellers on ebay has to inflate the price a little to compensate for ebay fees

are they reference or non reference designs?
2327  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how to calculate BTC/day from hash rate and difficulty? on: August 12, 2011, 07:01:14 AM
(Hash Rate) / (Difficulty * 2^32) = blocks found per unit time
thanks, this is exactly what i was looking for  Cheesy

If you are solo mining, the any "BTC/day" formula is fairly pointless. You can get lucky and process a block right away, or you can get unlucky and never process a block as the network hash rate outpaces your hash rate.
yup, i understand that, but i don't think it's all pointless. i'm guessing you think it doesn't apply because the variance for solo mining is too large since it's all based on probability. but statistically, solo mining and pool mining should give the same output if you were to be mining for an eternity, and also assuming there's no pool fees, downtime, etc.

that formula should still apply for a theoretical output, even for solo mining
2328  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Warter cooling on: August 12, 2011, 06:50:23 AM
LOL @ warter cooling and manly at looking  Cheesy. don't be offended though, i'm not making fun of you, just what you said is funny.

anyways, a 5770 is not worth the premium costs of water cooling. you usually want to do this for high end cards either for overclocking or to reduce noise. ya underclocking a 5770 and still running in the 80s is pretty high. what specific 5770 do you have? maybe you should consider reseating the heatsink/cooler and redoing the thermal paste before jumping straight into water cooling. or consider just getting a differnt 5770, much cheaper than a whole custom water loop for a low end mining card (i'm assuming you're mining with it since this is the bitcoin forum)
2329  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Powercolor AX6870X2 @ Newegg for $450 on: August 12, 2011, 06:42:30 AM
290mh/s per GPU is very respectable, considering a 5830 needs a decent overclock to get that speed. although, my guess is that you won't have that much overclocking headroom on these cards since the core is clocked pretty high already. waiting your overclocking results...

and to the OP, looks like you got your panties up in a bunch on power consumption huh? 280watts per card, so 4 cards is 1120w, you definitely don't need a 2400w PSU for 4 of these lol
2330  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How many kWh are you using a month? on: August 12, 2011, 06:34:03 AM
Very nice.  $0.07585/Kw is very cheap.  I can't wait for winter rates.  I'll be at $0.104377/Kw during peak hours, but only $0.038162/Kw during off-peak.
wtf that's it? where do you live for these dirt cheap electricity rates?? i have to freakin pay $0.165/kwh  Angry
2331  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 + 5850 won't work together on: August 12, 2011, 06:31:49 AM
hmm then you're going to have to make a sacrifice somewhere. how is the 5970 a triple slot card? does it have a accelero cooler on it? but even if it does, that aus P8P67 Pro can still accomodate two triple slots cards. there are 2 slots between the 1st pci-e and 2nd pci-e, everything should fit. unless you want to leave an additional slot for breathing room beneath the 5970 if it were to be in the top slot?
2332  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 + 5850 won't work together on: August 12, 2011, 05:31:48 AM
you didn't get display because usually the bios is set to display the primary pci-e (top one) first. some motherboards have the option to change the order of displayed graphics, some don't. i don't personally have that motherboard, so i can't tell you if it does or doesn't, so you might want to check in the bios for that option. just leave the 5850 in the first top slot and the 5970 in the bottom one with a dummy plug plugged into it, boot into windows and see if there are 3 GPUs in the device manager. it doesn't necessary have to display something on the monitor for it to be working.
2333  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] MSI R5850 Twin Frozr II - 9 BTC on: August 12, 2011, 02:43:30 AM
Can Theymos post the IP of this guy?
nope, not gonna happen. i asked theymos for IP of the guy that scammed 9 confirmed people (maybe more), and best theymos did was marked him as "scammer" in the title.

best rule to avoid being scammed it to not give BTC as payment to new members that have very little transaction history. only use reversible type of payments in case something like this goes wrong. i learned that the hard way.
2334  Economy / Goods / Re: Two MSI 6990 on: August 11, 2011, 11:31:21 PM
last time i tried to buy some 6990s, i lost over $800, where a guy was selling a few 6990 and couldn't provide any transaction feedback and was also a new member. i think after that event and thread i started, i noticed all potential buyers on here started demanding proof of ownership of the items or prior transaction feedbacks. to anyone interested in these 6990s in this thread, the seller did say he was willing to take paypal, so just pay with your credit card through paypal and you're safe for the most part. OP, in case you decide not to take anyone's advice on here, then you're probably better off just trying to sell it locally in person. you can refer to these threads regarding different people using 6990s to scam:

2335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / how to calculate BTC/day from hash rate and difficulty? on: August 11, 2011, 09:07:00 PM
there are a bunch of bitcoin calculators online to project profit after plugging all numbers. so i'm just curious, what's the equation to figure out how many coins you theoretically get using the difficulty and hash rate?
2336  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2x6990 Possible with 1000w PSU? on: August 11, 2011, 06:14:45 PM
I have a 1350W PSU running 3x6990 just fine.
what's the PSU efficiency and how many watts are you pulling from the wall?

2338  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2x6990 Possible with 1000w PSU? on: August 11, 2011, 04:48:47 AM
i don't personally own a 6990, but there seems to be some conflicting numbers on the power consumption. so is it 300w, 330w, 375w, or 450w? i think i read the reviews on these and it has a stock TDP of 300w, and there's a flip of a switch that will bring performance up, where it has a TPD of 450w.

when i said that 2x 6990 should be able to work on this 1000w, i just assumed it was 450w TDP, which a 1000w quality PSU should be barely enough since video cards never pass that power limit, even at 100% load on stock clocks.
2339  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2x6990 Possible with 1000w PSU? on: August 11, 2011, 02:22:09 AM
yup, that PSU should be able to work. the other hardware (mobo, CPU, hard drive, etc) barely take any power. just don't be overvolting the two cards too much
2340  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Never thought I'd see the day... on: August 10, 2011, 11:28:19 PM
i would hardly call that a good deal. the member toasty on here is selling the XFX 5770 for a lot less, also brand new
