2341  Other / Ivory Tower / Amor fati on: August 17, 2019, 09:18:54 AM
Today's topic is "amor fati" this is Latin for the ancient stoic concept of loving your fate. and adapted by Nietzsche as an acceptance of the trials and tribulations that life throws at you. You should accept that any adversity is sent by fate to strengthen you, and you should embrace it willingly. An extension to this is the facing up to your fears, and confronting them for brief period. Many of us have a fear of poverty for example, but by living a life of poverty for a week or so, we can learn that it isn't as life threatening as we may have thought. Of course this is written as an Englishman living in England, and for me, poverty would be a life choice option in my opinion.
2342  Other / Meta / Re: Suspicious thread - Possibly filled with sockpuppet accounts on: August 16, 2019, 04:12:09 PM
Well the thread has done one useful thing. It has reminded me that I haven't checked my Steemit account for months. The other way for content producers to gain rewards, is by receiving BAT tips. I'm thinking of reviving the Fit to Talk project, and adding the BAT option to that.

I didn't really read those threads in detail, I did a bit of quick scanning, and I decided the project wasn't worth joining. Spamming a project like that can be counter productive, and it often puts off new members.

fix your quotation.

I think he is saying that there is an airdrop component in the merits gained by some senior members when they increased rank. I was a Hero when the system was introduced, so I received 500 merits, and thus, I only needed an additional 500 "earned" merit to gain Legendary status.
2344  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WW3 About to start HK/China/U.N on: August 14, 2019, 09:38:40 AM
The US could never beat China. Just think how many Chinese restaurants there are in the US, and many of them probably employ military "sleepers". Another problem would the the electronics in the US weapons - isn't much of it Chinese? Then of course there is the problem of rare earths - the Chinese control that market, and the US needs a good supply of rare earths for its electronics and weapons.
2345  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Money is a too important matter to be managed by the State governments on: August 14, 2019, 09:30:17 AM
The State does not control the money supply, it is controlled by the bankers. This is why the world is in such a mess at the moment. We can't recover until control is returned to sovereign states. In the meantime we have Bitcoin and other cryptos to help us avoid the predations of the bankers.
2346  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 14, 2019, 09:22:45 AM
The real disaster for the UK was letting the City of London take overt control in the 1970s, and sneaking us into the EU to strip the country for the new Anglophone empire ( formally the British Empire ). Keeping a currency low is a rime honoured way to expand an economy. China did it by buying US bonds and other asset such as mining companies. The devaluation of the Rouble helped Russia to build its economy, and the Euro was created to avoid the revaluation of the Deutschemark. Our biggest problem after Brexit is that we will still be under the control of the City of London, and they will do everything they can to continue to damage the UK. The good news is their treasonous agents are becoming obvious. For example, John Bercow is an ex-Hambros banker, and was given the freedom of the City of London. His country of allegiance is the City of London, and not Great Britain.
2347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are Virgin Bitcoins on: August 13, 2019, 07:51:37 AM
Well as all bitcoins ever to be issued were created when the genesis block was laid, and Bitcoins from this pool are allocated as block creation rewards, surely a "virgin Bitcojn" would be one in the original pool that has yet to be allocated.

Take some of the equity if you believe in the project.
2349  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Thou shall not steal on: August 13, 2019, 07:21:36 AM
It was created by bankers, and they defined stealing at the same time. They also created the commandment "Thou shalt not commit adultery". The original meaning was that one should not have sex with adults outside wedlock.
2350  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 13, 2019, 07:16:15 AM
Chase bank in Canada has just written off all credit card debts, and they are withdrawing from the credit card market. I wonder if any other major banks will do this. Somehow they need to lose the toxic debt in Deutschbank derivatives, and also the bad debts in the EU central reserve. They didn't pay anything for it in the first place, so I guess they can afford to just write it off. Maybe they need to steal a few more national assets and pensions first though.
2351  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 12, 2019, 06:01:04 PM
I think it is good news. Most countries are trying to drop the value of their currencies to improve their trading positions. Trump is trying to drop the US dollar, and China is pushing down the value of the Renminbi to compensate for the Washington sanctions. It's mad that the Euro is staying strong - it has no future, especially as the current pillars - France and Germany, are on the skids.

They're stalling the judgement on the Robin Tillbrook case, and it looks as if it does have some merit. The application is based on the presumption that we actually left the EU last March. It will be interesting to see if Boris gives it a quiet push, as  a favourable ruling would get him off the hook over Brexit, and he could blame everything on the treasonous remainer - Theresa May.
2352  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: What is giving Bitcoin its value? The ultimate answer is: Skin in the game. on: August 10, 2019, 08:13:54 AM
Bitcoin is backed by an increasing repository of solutions to cryptographic problems. The increase in "skin in the game" is the result of an increasing number of people who realise that virtual assets can have a real value in monetary terms. Of course the network increase, and the willingness to invest will affect the price and the perceived value of the underlying asset, but they are not in themselves the asset base of Bitcoin. However, they do contribute to the asset value of " Bitcoin Inc. ".
2353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Authorities (HMRC )Seek Data from Crypto Exchanges on: August 08, 2019, 10:03:52 AM
They could be opening a big can of worms, as I believe a lot of so called traders are actually losing money
2354  Other / Meta / Re: Limit signature campaigns on: August 08, 2019, 07:38:22 AM
I think individual, static personal avatars are good. It's the animated ones, and the promo ones used by multiple members that are annoying.

Limiting signature earnings is a completely impractical solution in my opinion.

I believe account sales should be banned, and if there was any interest, I would be prepared to maintain a voluntary list of alts declared by their owners.
2355  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Security / If you are Android user and invest in Crypto, please be careful on: August 06, 2019, 08:56:42 AM

@JetCash this move of yours is like trading USD for EURO and feeling safe that your money won’t loose it’s value, but we both know it’ll. The only software that gave complete privacy was BlackBerry, why do you think all big influential people always have one blackberry phone with them.

For me, The privacy issues are more of an annoyance than a major issue. The biggest problem is the number of apps and other unwanted routines that Google keeps installing and updating. I want a mobile phone that works for me, and not for Google.

I'm looking forward to switching to the new Huawei OS that Trump forced them to develop. Smiley

It will be another step towards freeing myself from Google et al.
2357  Other / Meta / Re: is it possible create an account anti-merit? on: August 05, 2019, 04:00:16 PM
Just give you sMerits to Theymos if you don't want to support the system.  I think it would be a shame though. You can always keep your sMerits, and use them to encourage posters that you think are beneficial to the forum.
2358  Other / Serious discussion / Re: List of people to blame for the extinction of humanity. on: August 05, 2019, 09:26:23 AM
Not one of those is in the ruling dynasties. They are just the servants and instruments of the real holders of power.
2359  Other / Meta / Re: Reading this forum is unbearable and impossible on: August 05, 2019, 07:48:09 AM
I believe it is important to have some social chit-chat threads to keep such interactions out of the major threads. The wall thread is one good example, and I started the coffee lounge thread in the Ivory Tower ( which is hardly used ). Perhaps it would be worth having at least one such thread on each of the major boards.
2360  Other / Meta / Any changes to posting is censorship. on: August 03, 2019, 07:25:49 AM
Any change to a thread or post is censorship. If I were a mod, and I decided to change a post containing the world "color" to the traditional "colour" , then that is censorship. If a post in a self-moderated thread is deleted, or changed by a mod or the OP, then that is censorship. Unfortunately, there are so many people on the net with psychological problems, then some censorship is necessary. The problems start to appear when the censors have the psychological problems, or extreme political views.
