1641  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Don't buy facemasks for the coronavirus! on: March 13, 2020, 06:43:09 PM
These masks would be great for a porn site. I bet there would be a load of pervs joining up. Smiley

I remember reading that Darth Vader used to get some very explicit letters from women.
1642  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Targeted Gangstalking Information Thread on: March 13, 2020, 06:39:40 PM
I read the title as "gangs talking", and I thought that sounded like fun. Smiley
1643  Economy / Economics / Re: If bitcoin is made for times like these why is everyone selling at a time like.. on: March 13, 2020, 05:50:51 PM
Not everyone is selling, some are using the drop to accumulate. I suspect the sellers are highly geared traders who have to pay for margin calls. That could be why gold went down as well.
1644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advice from China: build factories and sell masks through the Bitcoin community on: March 13, 2020, 05:42:30 PM
Masks protect the public from you, and don't do much to protect you from the public. Gloves are far more useful. Hot water is good as well to boost your immune system, and undo the damage done by vaccines.
1645  Other / Meta / Re: Where to start computer hardware discussion threads. on: March 13, 2020, 05:37:12 PM

Perhaps it could follow something similar to the Ivory Tower rank requirements; Full Members and above.

That could cause it to end up as a bit of an elitist discussion board. I think it would be best if any member could post there, including brand new.  Some newbies who want to run a node aren't sure about disk sizes for example, although that could be asked in a Bitcoin forum. I would see it as useful for Raspberry Pi discussions, computing in a van, WiFi usage, hardware upgrades  and stuff like that.
1646  Other / Meta / Re: Where to start computer hardware discussion threads. on: March 13, 2020, 04:25:10 PM
It would have been useful to have opened a chat thread to help me with the planning. I messed up, and I've ended up going down a few side tracks. It started just after I opened this thread, and I realised that I had ordered a 3.5" desktop drive. I decided I would keep it anyway, and I would buy a docking station, and use it for my easy Bitcoin mining project. The docking station looks good, but it only supports modern drives, and not the older ones that I planned to check. The station has 12 volt power, so I can use it with a Raspberry Pi when I get round to installing one in the van.

I need to collect all my drives and memory cards on a table, and work out a sensible structure for the future. Right now I'm sync'ing an old node that is 2 years out of date, and I'll use that on the Linux machine. It's on a 2Tb Toshiba portable drive.
1647  Other / Serious discussion / Easy Bitcoin mining. on: March 13, 2020, 10:22:42 AM
I'm starting a new project. The basic concept is to experiment with various alternatives to conventional mining for Bitcoin. I've purchased this docking station from Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B018EOZGU2/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_dp_1 and a 3Tb HDD. I'll be using this for urban mining, and scanning scrap hard drives for Bitcoin wallets. No doubt I will be back on here if I find one. Smiley

If anyone has any other ideas, then I'd be interested in trying those as well.

Update:
I've hosted the domain for this, and I'll add some articles next week hopefully. The URL is Easy Bitcoin mining   The docking station is not going to be suitable for checking old drives, but I have a small desktop box I can probably use for that. The docking station will be great for cloning the blockchain onto backup drives though.
1648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin The Best Safe-haven In The Wake of Financial Crisis? on: March 13, 2020, 09:54:02 AM
Current situation proofs that the best save haven is gold, unfortunately

It isn't as simple as that. You need to differentiate between gold delivery contracts, and physical gold. Even in physical gold rhere are differences between gold coins, bullion and scrap. Another consideration is the gold/silver ratio. At the moment, it is looking as if silver will show the greatest gain and the best security. This is why Jamie Dimon has bought so much of it.
1649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No seller in the market on: March 13, 2020, 08:07:08 AM
Maybe the exchanges think the price will drop a bit further.
1650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Coronavirus affects Bitcoin and when it will end on: March 12, 2020, 05:33:11 PM
The virus was just the pin that pricked the bubbles created by the central banks. It isn't the cause. Gold, silver and Bitcoin are stores of wealth, so you can expect them to increase in value in the medium term. Expect a rocky ride whilst the world economies reset though.
1651  Other / Serious discussion / How can we profit from the current global economic reset? on: March 12, 2020, 05:20:02 PM
Leaving aside obvious wealth protection purchases such as gold, silver and Bitcoin, how can we profit from the current major changes. One interesting area id the shift away from the large media platforms like YouTube. I think content producers and bloggers should be using a variety of platforms, and trying to pick up revenue in crypto currencies. It also seems to be a good time to start a new project of business, but what is going to be profitable in the new and changed world?

There is a shift towards artificial foods, and there should be some profits to be made from services and advice that helps people to obtin traditional food. Also the fiat system  will either collapse or be subject to substantial change, and this should provide some scope for educational sites. Retailing is another area that won't ever be the same. Is there scope for alternatives to Amazon?
1652  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Bottled water claims. on: March 12, 2020, 03:46:40 PM
Leave the water in an open jug for a couple of hours - that gets rid of most of the chlorine.
1653  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people still smoke cigarettes? on: March 12, 2020, 09:08:39 AM
There is no punishment for smoking.

There are many punishments -

Poverty for some
Lung disease
Reduced libido
Greater risk of serious complication from the Corona Virus, because of the increase in ACE-2 receptors.
1654  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Toilet paper hoarding on: March 12, 2020, 09:04:23 AM
I believe that in Venezuela toilet rolls were used as currency for a while.

I hope that they will give up this idea of screwing up immune systems with vaccines, and just recommend hot water so that we can build herd immunity. Fat chance though, as big pharma can't make a profit from hot water, and it doesn't lead to a dependency on pharmaceuticals.
1655  Other / Meta / Re: why mods are not removing reported SPAMs on my threads? on: March 12, 2020, 08:33:46 AM
If it is spam rather than scam, then just think of it as a free bump for your topic.
1656  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Italy is now locked down for COVID19, other country will do the same soon?! on: March 12, 2020, 08:31:16 AM

Only drug stores and food stores are allowed to be open.

They would do better if they banned all drugs that compromised immune systems, and then allowed us to build a herd immunity. The best treatment for the virus is drinking hot water. This increases the effectiveness of your immune system, and it ensures that you are not dehydrated.
1657  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Scrap metal prices are down on: March 12, 2020, 08:08:04 AM
Most of the stuff I've accumulated, I have obtained at low or no cost. I understand you point though, as the acquisition cost isn't really relevant once you own it. I was talking about scrap prices with a friend, and she said that she had some lead and copper I could have. I picked up a small pile of lead, but the copper is buried in her garage. The opportunity cost is not so much the cash, as I want to diversify my disposable assets, but the loss of storage space, and that is why I want to get rid of the less "efficient" metals such as aluminium and light iron.

You will get the most exposure if you list it in your signature.
1659  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In third world China, men death rate outpace everyone else. on: March 11, 2020, 06:55:30 PM
I gather 40% of Chinese men smoke, and only 2% of women do. Get the men to give up smoking, and they will live longer.
1660  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin ready for world wide 1 currency? on: March 11, 2020, 06:32:17 PM
I think Bitcoin is money, and hopefully it will never become a currency.
