241  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dont sell because you feel like selling, give it another thought. on: March 04, 2024, 09:38:25 AM
It's really easy:

Buy when you can, sell only when you must.

Don't let price fluctuations interfere with that.

Chopper turned the corner. It was going south, now it's going eastward. How soon before we turn the next corner and head up north?

Maybe ATH this week or even today. I wanna reward my self for holding 11 years. But I don’t know what to even buy lol.

moar

Of course some nitwits just had to "take profits" by investing in fiat currencies.  Roll Eyes

Well that didn't take long.

Barely Monday (UTC) and already a new AYH.

Go Bitcoin go.

It's Haiku Sunday
And we're still going sideways
Waiting for Monday.

That's when the big boys
Get back to their offices
And resume buying.

They require more coins
To back all the ETFs
They will sell this week.

Big green candles please...
Many more big green candles
And an all time high.

So go Bitcoin go.
Get this biggest bull run yet
Really rallying.

Does anyone care to explain or know how these ETF's work?
Do they hold indefinitely?
Do they sell at x y Z % profit?
Do they sell when the clients(boomers) say sell?
Or is the fund manager in control?
Do they actively trade too?

Thanks,

Will you give us peasants a hint on when to sell?

Only when absolutely necessary.  Cool

Good morning afternoon Bitcoinland.

Haven't posted in a few days due to getting food poisoning on Friday. Just started eating solid food (bananas, applesauce, oatmeal, etc) again yesterday. Bed-ridden but occasionally checking the price during this impressive rally and meriting a few posts. Too weak to bother creating any real posts though.

The inevitable "profit"-taking (if you consider fiat currencies to be profits) just cooled down  the rally for now but it's still a fine green daily candle. There's no reason not to continue up soon. The correction was undoubtedly helped by a long squeeze. As usual margin tarders and daytarders got played for the suckers they are. Meanwhile the ETF boys continue to take coins off the market, further leading to price increases.

We were just rejoicing at finally reaching $60k this morning. Now it's starting to look like $60k is the new support level.

Go Bitcoin go.

your bets guys... will 50k hold over the next 3 days?

I'd say we'll dip below

Will 53k hold for the next 3 days?

I'd say it's iffy.

Of course, when any of us get into our elderly years where we might be more fragile and/or subjected to needs of liquidity, we may well need to keep some of our extra value in cash.. but like you said, if you already have a decent amount in other assets, then you may well be able to run the risk of having most of the rest, even the cushion in bitcoin.

When I speak of taking dividends, I don't mean necessarily taking them and holding them in fiat currencies. It's still best to hold them as Bitcoin.

It's more a matter of being able to buy that second house, business, vehicle, or other lifestyle improvement without wiping out your nest egg.

Of course you keep your cushion in Bitcoin. Unfortunately, purchasing real estate, vehicles, travel, etc usually requires fiat currencies. I was lucky to be able to buy my principal vehicle, my John Deere Gator, with Bitcoin, avoiding the need to convert to dollars to make the purchase. Of course my lake, city house, dental implants and other major purchases required dollars or pesos.

I usually keep only a minimum dollar balance on hand for purchases and in my bank account to avoid bank charges and pay utility bills, etc and only buy dollars or pesos as need be.

Of course, there are coiners who have been into BTC for a decently long time, so they may well have concluded that they have enough BTC or more than enough BTC, so they would have more liberties and options in regards to their perspectives upon whether and/or if to sell some or all of their coins... and many of us likely realize that you do not sell all of your coins... or probably not even more than half of them absent real emergency circumstances such as needs to save your life or the life (lives) of a loved one.

Now that I'm in my mid-70s my non-Bitcoin income has trickled down to almost zero. I have been "living happily ever after" for several years now. If I ever happened to come into any real amount of fiat currency, of course I would immediately convert it into Bitcoin. Other than that, I'm content to live a good life off the dividends of my bitcoins.

Those who invest in blue chip stocks will see some capital gains but most of their income will come from regular dividend payments. Because of the ongoing growth of Bitcoin's price, we can regularly take "dividends" from our Bitcoin holdings while continuing to see the overall size of our investment grow.

If you had 200 coins when they were worth $5k each that was barely $1m. By the time they were worth $50k each, your stash was now worth $10m and you could afford to take a 20% "dividend" and still have 160 coins worth $8m in your stash. That $2m of fiat represents a fairly decent lifestyle improvement whether it was used to buy a ranch, a lake, a house or simply a bunch of smaller stuff like travel or home improvements, or even waste it on frivolities like hookers, cars or blow. Even if the price crashed all the way down to $10k, those 160 bitcoins would still be worth $1.6m at rock bottom while you continued to hodl, waiting for the inevitable next bull market.

When the price hits $100k each, as it surely will, your nest egg will be worth $16m and that's just a start. You could afford to take a 25% dividend of $4m and still have $12m in your stash. That $4m represents another even greater lifestyle improvement. Even if the price crashes all the way down to $30k your 120 remaining coins would still be worth $3.6 million rock bottom with nowhere to go but up.

As you see, you can take regular dividends and still see your investment grow. If you're at that point of your life where lifestyle is more important than acquiring more wealth, go ahead and enjoy the dividends. If inter-generational wealth is more important, by all means re-invest your dividends by continuing to hodl.

I am very happy with the bitcoin market because I invested in bitcoin quite some time ago. Now bitcoin is worth 51$k when I invested bitcoin was 48k$ now I don't want to sell the invested bitcoins I hope bitcoin in few years  I will see the price of 100k$. When the price of bitcoin is 100k$, I will decide to sell my invested bitcoins.

You obviously invested in Bitcoin before early 2022 if you paid $48k "quite some time ago".

Congratulations on holding firmly when the price fell to less than a third of that before rebounding back up.

I can't believe that you would sell your coins for as low a price as $100k. Do you really think that might take as long as a "few years"?

If you've already held your coins for almost 2 years, what are a few years more? What's the big hurry?

Also would you really want your money tied up in some fiat currency? Why sell?
259  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 17, 2024, 11:23:33 PM
..and yeah car use for a few blocks seems a bit much, and perhaps interferes with our abilities to more easily run into and get to know our neighbors - including that sometimes we may well end up being afraid of and/or hating our neighbors more than we should... it is not easy to know the solution to some of these circumstances, and surely many cities (and even towns) and buildings are designed in ways to NOT be very inviting to walkability and/or social interaction.. .. I am not sure if these design choices are on purpose in all cases, but surely in some cases they are.

This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem with each year and it is compounded by the trend toward social distancing. Many people now prefer texting over voice communication and electronic over face-to-face human interaction. They avoid looking people straight in the eye, hearing their tone of voice and smelling their pheromones. They avoid social contact by staying at home, using Uber Eats and other delivery services and try to replace it with impersonal so-called "social" media.

It can be a challenge if you live in a big city even if you don't drive. If you can afford to live in a house downtown in a close knit neighborhood, it's easier to get to get to know your neighbors. If all you can afford is a high-rise condominium it takes extra effort. It's not all that hard though.

Take time to learn people's names. At the SkyDome all the employees wear name tags. Every time I see a new employee I read his or her name tag and try to remember his or her name. Then the next time I want to buy a beer, I'll get the vendor's attention by calling out his or her name. That and decent cash tips go a long way towards them remembering you. Eventually someone will learn your name and spread the word among the others. Almost all of the beer vendors in our section know me by name and it pays off in special treatment at last call and lots of free beers. Many people look at the beer vendors as faceless employees and never take the time to get to know them as human beings.

... you must admit that you failed/refused to mention anything in regards to your preparedness (or lack thereof) to be able to get away from a bear...

Most bush bears are deadly afraid of humans and will usually run away if they can unless they are sick or are mothers with cubs. It's bears that have learned to trust humans that are the problem, such as in parks or around campgrounds where people feed them, leave food lying around or throw scraps into the bush to "feed the animals" instead of burning them or otherwise safely disposing of them.

If you do have to deal with a bear, the best thing is to make a loud noise. I carry a compressed air horn for this purpose. Warning: loud noises do not work with moose. The noise will aggravate a moose. It's best to walk away from the moose quietly. Luckily moose are herbivorous.
