Is there some group dedicated on developing monero-based services? Is there a development team working to make Monero significant?

There are a lot of people who want to make services. Developers I talk to about how to do them. However, so far, I've warned a lot of people against the creation of services until we've implemented proper privacy services and the database. We're making good headway into statistical analysis of the privacy features now and will roll out fixes soon.

Nutshell on how database is coming?

I know this is intended to eliminate the need to load the blockchain into ram but will it do anything to address the size of the blockchain? either the size that it is now or the rate at which it is growing.

A POS system that is comparable to a POW system in other ways, all things being equal

No one has demonstrated that in a way that has convinced the community of disinterested domain experts that their scheme is sound.

I agree "it would be nice" if you could do something that was distributed, trustless and highly energy efficient, but right now that is unicorn cryptography.

It can be done. The nxt devs developed the tech that makes it possible. No one cares enough to do the research to understand it. Not even the smart guys. If they did they would know it had been solved and they would be crapping themselves with excitement, but they are so dismissive that they wont even attempt to understand it.

Of course the way that the creator of nxt released the initial stake is not well distributed. But the tech could easily be copied with better distribution.

Fortunately, miners are only 0.00001% of the population. The rest have to buy coins, and they don't have a concern if it's PoW or PoS as long as it does what they need it to.

As long as a miner is making a profit than he isnt paying for that security. And if he is making a loss than he is only paying for the difference between the amount he is making and what he needs to make in order to generate a profit. Its users who pay the cost associated with mining through transaction fees and inflation. A POS system that is comparable to a POW system in other ways, all things being equal, will have less inflation and or less fees. This is something they would be concerned with. Or not concerned as much as they would just make the rational choice to switch to the cheaper network.

has anyone actually read cloakcoins 3 whitepapers? im so tried of reading whitepapers all the time and they want me to read 3... maybe someone can tell me if there is any truth to this

CloakCoin is a new cryptocurrency that will feature a uniquely implemented and decentralized p2p anonymization feature via Proof of Stake protocol extensions.

or if they are just blowing smoke.

POS is POS (piece of shit)

Proof of stake is the future. Competing to see who can create the largest money bond fire is not an ideal situation. That money doesn’t come out of no where, it is transferred from the networks users to the miners thus making the use of the network more expensive than it needs to be. SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive.

PoS is far from an ideal solution. Vericoin got 51% attacked easy as fuck too...

Mining centralization is the natural order of things, only a small few get the most because they put forward the most. If everyone in the world got an equal supply of money like in PoS, the whole economy would be in chaos, PoS coins arent currencies, theyre more like games...or entertainment shit.

You can use proof of work to distribute the stake and then proof of stake to secure the network you know. If proof of work is a solution to the problem of stake centralization, it can be used to solve the problem in a proof of stake system. If proof of work is not a solution to that problem than what are we even talking about. Cheesy

I was talking about full, 100% PoS coins and how theyre shit. But, I guess PoW to distribute the coins, then PoS to secure the network, is a good idea...

Yea I totally understand your concern. Im involved in nxt because there is some amazing technology there and amazing people working to make it even better, but I would be lying if I said that wasn't a huge concern for me.

But thats not the point. The question is whether this proof of stake "thing" they have invented actually provides anonymity. I doubt it highly.

The packaging is nice.
But the casing seams a bit fragile. If you press on it, you can here little cracks , I think metal would be a lot better.

I'm waiting if they will release again metal at good price and would consider buy a new one and keep plastic one as backup  Wink

Strangely enough I like the plastic ones better than my metal one. Not sure why, probably because the plastic ones are new and the metal one I already got used to Wink

Another advantage of the plastic one is that in the event of a 5 dollar wrench attack it may be easier to convince an attacker that you dont have a huge number of bitcoins if you are using a plastic trezor Cheesy

Giving away 0.1 XMR to anyone who makes 10 quality posts on Moneroforum.org

Yes its totally subjective and I will be the judge Cheesy

Whether BCN is a scam or not, I don't think it's in our best interest to discuss, especially on this thread

I certainly agree with this part. More than incidental discussion of any other coin is off topic for this thread.

If people want to discuss other altcoins with other monero users we have a place for that! http://moneroforum.org/index.php?board=20 Grin

I've been working on organizing moneroforum.org. Constructive feedback would be very helpful. Stop buy, check it out, let me know what you think, if you get a chance.

If you feel super generous, tell me your thoughts in the meta section of the forum Grin

MoneroForum.org up and running!!!

Please check it out guys and get involved. I know its hard early on when we dont have network effects, but the only way to generate network effects is to get in there and start talking even when there arnt very many people listening. I may do a promotion a little later to help bootstrap the forum.

I may be opposed to global warming scaremongering nonsense, but i still consider myself something of an environmentalist. There is definitely a case to be made for how humans are having a devastating impact on the environment through overconsumption due to tragedy of the commons problems created by government and the rampant externalization of the cost of pollution resulting from legislative interferences in market processes.

hello guys, i am looking for a financial advice.

i got most of my crypto money inside xmr. normaly its not a problem, since i watch everything that is going on very closely and can react immediately.
but now, i will be on holiday for like 3 weeks, what do you recomend me to do?

-just let it run?
-have a stop-Limit? (where?)
-put everything for sell at 0.01, enjoy the beach and see what happens?
-sell some now (put new buy orders around 0.004) and let the rest run?

i am mostly into profit, bought most between 0.0025 and 0.0035, some at 0.0055.

thx

If you are worried about it just use a limit order. put it as low as you are willing to let the price fall before you feel uncomfortable.

Check out, I've added a forum.
Spread the word  Grin

Hey sweet! Lets try to get people over there and active. Can I be a mod? Maybe ill try adding forums and subforums. Try to get some good organization going.

Ok. But still I didn't get the answers to my questions and there is no evidence to proof the necessity to integrate i2p to the coin

Quote
i2p, of course, has pros but I wonder if the patterns are used above correct for their intended purposes? Does the FoxyProxy setup in any way open up for attacks?

With out it people could know who made what transactions just by logging network traffic and seeing what ip address transactions originated from. Sure you could use a proxy or run your own traffic through i2p or tor or something manually, but other people who failed to do this would compromise the security of others by to deduce information more easily. Having it built in will mean that everyone uses it and then everyone is better off.
2417  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: July 28, 2014, 03:02:51 AM
You forget some people prefer freedom than fascism. If economy really need to "go green" there is the market for that, no need for a big government.

The market won't make the economy "go green". Because the free market either doesn't consider the situation in 30+ years from now or weighs it only very minimally.

A free market approach to ecology and limited resources is a prime example of a tragedy of the commons.

And what pray tell is the alternative that does? Surely you arn't going to tell me that the government or the state are any more concerned than entrepreneurs with the state of the environment 30 years in the future. If you were to take this position than you would be painting a giant red target on your forehead and set yourself up for being slaughtered in a debate. Please please do. Lets make this a blood bath.

Perhaps someone replaced your Trezor by a compromised one, in transport or anytime after you got it.

Of all the risks mentioned, this is the most realistic one I think. The nsa has actually been caught doing this to routers. http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/16/nsa-bugged-cisco-routers/ Too bad you cant create and compare a hash of hardware configurations. Do you think your aforementioned security precautions would thwart such a sophisticated attacker as this?
