Why would China want to take down the dollar? Don't they own America's debt and rely on USD factory orders?
If the Chinese elite utterly destroy the Western economies, they rule the world. Simple as that. Get used to it: The state attracts psychopaths. It's purpose is power, not wealth. Human lives mean nothing to the psychopaths on top. You, my friend, are a means, not an end. So are all the other tax serfs, everywhere. The US and most big countries are no different to China, all hunger for power. In China the human rights are worse or non-existent if you didn't make it in life. That said China would rather to destroy the US from within. They are buying up bonds and land so the US owe them everything and do their bidding. Basically the same as the US is doing in countries like Afghanistan, Irak, etc. and has done in former Soviet Russia. Basically the same as Europe is doing with countries like Greece. Make the bastards owe you so they do your bidding! (this is power) You basically buy the country, liquidate it's assets and own it's land and people. The US does this by injecting pro-US governments in those countries. Destroying a country by bombing it's economy leaves nothing useful and gains no power, just eliminates competition.

Bitcoin will not be a ponzi if, and only if, it succeeds
Don't be an idiot. Bitcoin is not a ponzi. Ok, now I have to be that guy. Actually bitcoin does have at least two qualities of a ponzi scheme: 1. Early investors who gradually change back to fiat are basically earning money off the last round of investors. 2. Investors heavily advertise it because they know that the more new investors join, the more they gain. I am not denying the absolutely awesome technological wonder that bitcoin is, and the fact that I can use it to move money across countries in a breeze (operation otherwise made unnecessarily painful by the sucking bastard governments and banks involved) Still let's admit that we are in the speculation forum watching markets because we hope to get rich, and bitcoin keeps us hooked because of 1. and 2. above. If bitcoin is a ponzi scheme then the US dollar is too. The US dollar has nothing much to back it's value. It's 100% marketing and people invested in US dollars want more people in to uphold it's value.

That would be FAR worse, for me at least. I plan on retiring and paying 0% taxes! How can I do that if they class it as a currency?
That's very smart of you! Are you from US? If so, not paying your taxes is. Ot only a crime, but it is what SCUMBAGS DO! If you love your country, then don't we need money for schools? What about the road your car drives on? Or bridges? How about parks? He'll...what about that Submarine currently looking for the MH370 plane? Listen, paying taxes suck! But it is necessary in modern societies. You can debate all you want how crooked politicians waste our tax income, or how taxes are too high...but one thing you SHOULD NOT DO IS NOT PAY YOUR TAXES! That is one of the dumbest AND least patriotic things you can do! If you love your country, then you must pay your taxes. Period. Good lord.. are you for real.. Or do you just not understand the concept of LEGALLY minimizing the taxes you pay? Up to a certain income, capital gains are tax free. It is very simple to live off of capital gains and LEGALLY pay 0% on your taxes. As giving the gov't your money is so important to you, I'm assuming you are donating to the federal government over and above your legally required tax burden? What, you're NOT? you SCUMBAG !!! If you love your country, then don't we need money for schools? What about the road your car drives on? Or bridges? How about parks? He'll...what about that Submarine currently looking for the MH370 plane? Stop the bitchfight! Paying tax is no fun but without taxes you'll live in a hellhole for sure. Countries don't live off of donations (yet). Everyone should pay their taxes and everyone should pay ONLY their share as defined by the law. Minimizing your tax expenditure, within legal boundaries, should be done by everyone in my opinion. If can pay 0% tax then you should!!!

I have come to the party very late January/February this year - and although I would like to believe another ATH is before us, I am not (completely) sure. So for me the perspective of loosing investing that late is very real. And I am also not one of these people believing that buy-in price does not matter because there are 10,100 or 1000 x gains in the future. Been there, done that. Another investment, another country, another year. But the same philosophy: that only thing that matters is to buy, investment opportunity of the lifetime, normal rules do not apply ... To make the long story short, I did buy immediately back then, and lost most of my money. Fortunately, I have very few money back then as I was still in school, but the lesson was learnt. So - still not buying, although situation does look better in short term. I am also OK with never buying any bitcoin - but not OK with loosing like 50% of the money invested
Buying BTC is not investing. Buying BTC mining equipment or putting your money into a Bitcoin-related enterprise is investing. Buying BTC is investing according to the dictionary, since hodling is waiting for appreiciation in value. in·vest·ment [in-vest-muhnt] Show IPA noun 1. the investing of money or capital in order to gain profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value.2. a particular instance or mode of investing. 3. a thing invested in, as a business, a quantity of shares of stock, etc. 4. something that is invested; sum invested. 5. the act or fact of investing or state of being invested, as with a garment. P.S. Someone already posted this ![Embarrassed](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/embarrassed.gif)

Then go to another country where taxes are low or non existent. Don't expect good roads, schools for your kids, police to stop criminals or your garbage to be picked up.

I smoked some crack and got some hoes to suck me off....(GANGSTA) got some popcorn from the microwave (NERD) One of these is what i did ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif) A nerd who doesn't know (or care) that microwaves are not totally safe? Edit: There is room for debate, but I usually don't trust microwaves with my food. They call it nuking your food for a reason. Open up your microwave you will find a small plutonium core in there. ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

Igorr is one of those trolls that likely has about 0.004 bitcoin to his name, but still finds it worthwhile spreading FUD day and night.
And he can draw random red and blue bands in a graph...

It was determined before that the moon is 5 figures and Mars is 6.
How many figures is Pluto? ![Lips sealed](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/lipsrsealed.gif) well then that would be 7 figures 8 figures would be beyond the solar system. Yep that would be Alpha Centauri

Mark my words, there is going to be a very very heavy resistance at $1,000. Everyone who bought near there last time is going to cash out those coins. When we get towards 1k i wouldn't be surprised to see a quick correction back down towards the $800 range.
That is one possibility, another is that the media catches on bitcoin's resurgence to 1k, making headlines, driving more speculators and investors into the game... and up is the only way. Bingo. I don't think the estimates of the next ATH being $10,000+ are too unrealistic. Last January when BTC was at $13, I thought that the people shouting $100 were actually mentally insane. Amazing how perspective changes! Exactly. When BTC broke above $32 I thought there would be much more resistance at ~$75. Last year was crazy....What will happen this year? ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) $340/$13*$1100 = $28769 The new top ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif)

Ultimately is has to do with how many vendors will accept bitcoin in exchange for their goods/services.
Think of it this way. There is about $1.27 trillion USD in circulation, and that is just one currency for approximately 300 million people (maybe a little more if you count the 3rd world countries that often use USD). If bitcoin became popular enough that 300 million people (out of the 7 billion people on the planet) used it as their primary means of exchange, then each bitcoin could potentially be worth $60,000 (1.27 trillion / 21 million), and that is only assuming about 4% of the world's population are using bitcoin heavily.
+1 Bitcoin has massive potential on a big population. The question is more about when or how this population will invest or use bitcoin.

Well ahead of his time, he propagated the art of hodling through his paintings, as for example in this early masterpiece called "HODL!!!!!!!". He also depicted the unity of HODLers in his painting "Unity"... ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.kunst-fuer-alle.de%2Fimg%2F41%2Fm%2F41_00257447%7Eferdinand-hodler_einmuetigkeit.jpg&t=663&c=HMoLMd6XWITbwA)
