Ok, you convinced me, thank you. I  will buy a Ledger.

There is no question here, hardware wallet remains to be the safest alternative you can use except of course if you have the propensity to experiment just be careful if that is the case because one you lost your coin then it can take a lot of effort, time and headaches to restore them back. Getting the Ledger then can be your best decision. Good luck with your cryptocurrency experience...
2482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Important Bitcoin & Cryptocurrency Developments This Past Week on: May 13, 2019, 07:56:14 AM

Here is the summary of important developments that transpired this past week which one way or another made the market more exciting and pulsating with possibilities.

1. Bitcoin surges and breaks $7,000 and even made to the $7500 though it is settling back to around $7,000 for now.
2. Bitfinex launches $1B offering which raised the eyebrows of the many especially those doubting its viability.
3. Facebook reverses crypto ban which is actually expected by the many as this industry can be a good source of revenues too.
4. Binance hacked for 7K BTC but the cryptocurrency community stood by it and is now emerging to be seemingly "unharmed".
4. Bitmain loses 88% hashing power
5. Fidelity trading coming soon
6. Microsoft deploys public ETHchain

Now, which of these developments will have a long-term impact on Bitcoin and the rest of the cryptocurrency marketplace?

I am sure that there can be a little correction from time to time which is quite normal with Bitcoin based in previous years of history. A dip can be used by many to enter the bandwagon and increase one's hoard of Bitcoin. Definitely, the air is very positive for Bitcoin and we are hoping that this force can be able to surmount any possible challenges and can carry Bitcoin into the $10,000 level and beyond before the year ends.
2484  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Politicians who support cryptocurrency - Halalan2019 on: May 13, 2019, 06:13:06 AM

But then again, I am sure that the coming Senate and Congress will be open to this idea as long as it is presented in proper and non-biased way to them. We actually have a SEC and Central Bank which are not againsts this industry and they have shown their support by approving many crypto-related business applications that came to their desks. Let's hope that there will be no Warren Buffet in the coming lawmakers.
2485  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-05-12] Bitcoin May Retrace To High-$5,000s on: May 13, 2019, 05:43:40 AM

What a week it’s been for Bitcoin (BTC). In the past 72 hours, the asset has rallied from the low-$6,000s to $7,500, then to $6,900, driven by a newfound sense of hype, passion, and belief in the cryptocurrency cause.

However, as the market has cooled — temporarily at least — analysts have begun to get more level-headed, doing their utmost to figure out where cryptocurrencies could head next. This time for pondering has led to some staggering revelations.

Popular trader Josh Rager recently suggested that there are amazing similarities between 2015’s recovery out of a bear market. During that cycle, BTC bottomed around $200, accumulated around $300 for months, went parabolic to tap $500, then saw a pullback. What’s more, the three-day Super Guppy, a key long-term trend indicator, didn’t signal a “buy” (green) until after the pullback.

Source: https://www.newsbtc.com/2019/05/12/if-history-rhymes-bitcoin-btc-may-retrace-further/

I am sure that while the whole cryptocurrency market is rejoicing with the recent upsurge of Bitcoin with many thinking that this can already be the sign of a coming bull run, there are those who are wishing that Bitcoin do some retracement so they can enter the bandwagon or add more hoard to their portfolio. The possible pullback can be serving as a correction which can happen after some days of being bullish.

Will Bitcoin go back to the $5,000s level soon? Or will it ignore the pundits and make a go for a higher level days from now? Your guess can be as good as mine...

2486  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-12] ‘Facebook Coin’ Will Be More Like Bitcoin Than Starbucks Rewards, S on: May 13, 2019, 05:27:40 AM

Under the code name “Project Libra,” tech journalists say, Facebook, Telegram, and Signal are devising their own digital token, which would allow their billions of users to exchange money across the Internet, through their payment systems.

Right now, the whole Facebook conglomerate is quite excited for their grand entrance to the world of cryptocurrency which many are expecting can be competing well with many well-established coins in the marketplace. But will the so-called FacebookCoin or whatever name it can be called be able to dethrone the King of Cryptos? That remains to be seen because I am sure that this future coin can also have its own flaws and it all depends on how the marketplace can react into it. I am guessing that in the next few months of its existence, it can be liken to the BNB experiment since the coin can be well-used on the social media platforms controlled by Facebook.

Now, can we see that Mark Zuckerberg become the new King of Cryptocurrency? Or will the weight of Facebook make it sluggish and not adopt well with the expectations by the people?
2487  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [02019-05-12] GoTenna Partners With Blockstream Satellite to Make Using Bitcoin. on: May 13, 2019, 05:19:15 AM
This is cool. We are looking at syncing a full node without internet connection from Blockstream Satellite, and transmitting transactions without internet via goTenna. Completely resistant to internet outages and online censorship.

I expect that in the coming 5-10 years that the devices needed to send offline transactions through satellites will be so small and cheap, that it might take off in third world countries.
A goTenna mesh is currently selling for $179. By the time you add up the satellite dish, LNB, power supply, cables, and all the rest, the hardware needed to connect to Blockstream Satellite probably isn't far off that either. A combined total of ~$350 is way out of budget for most citizens in the 3rd world at the moment, but as you say technology rapidly gets cheaper as time goes on. I also wonder about a group or community all pitching in together to get the hardware to run a "community node".

I am about to ask the same thing. So for now the technology can still be expensive especially for people who are not in developed countries and even if you are let's say based in USA shelling out that money to avail of the platform may not be that attractive. The best solution is to market this for a community or maybe a service provider that can charge a certain fee for subscribers or users within a geographical location. Anyway, the most important thing here is that there is now the technology available that can utilized for offline Bitcoin transactions and who know soon the cost can be lowered significantly. We are now actually witnessing new development of different platforms that can greatly enhance the Bitcoin experience and this is very encouraging.
2488  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-5-13] Bitcoins for Frappuccino: Will Starbucks’ Crypto Endeavours Pave the on: May 13, 2019, 05:06:04 AM

As many mainstream companies, Starbucks leans toward the “blockchain before bitcoin” approach

I think this can be a better approach. Let them experience the benefits of the blockchain technology first and then encourage them to adopt Bitcoin as one of their primary tool accepting payments for their products and services. Will Starbucks be a big help towards mainstream adoption? Maybe or maybe not but the most important thing is that consumers are given a good choice to join the Bitcoin bandwagon and have the firsthand experience in using cryptocurrency. Now, I am hoping that Starbucks make sure that the infrastructure they are using are reliable otherwise customers can be dismayed. In addition, let's hope that there will be a critical number of Starbucks fans who will avail of the Bitcoin facility.
2489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think IOTA has the potential to dethrone Bitcoin? And why? on: May 13, 2019, 04:18:21 AM

I do not think IOTA has the potential to dethrone Bitcoin. Nonetheless, do you think IOTA can dethrone BITCOIN?

Well, you already answered it yourself. As of now and in the coming years, I don't think there will be a real threat to Bitcoin on its throne as the King of Cryptos. I was considering Eth as possible heir apparent but even now we can see that it is lagging far behind. All other contenders are just contenders and only their promoters are telling us that they can be the next big thing even if the market says otherwise. Only time can tell if there will be another cryptocurrency to supplant Bitcoin because if there will be one that can stand out and can have many new features to cover the flaws of Bitcoin still at the end of the day it is the market that can determine the ultimate winner. I am not very familiar with IOTA but for sure it is not even a close contender to the throne. I am encouraging the people IOTA to work more and make their platform truly attractive for the users and partners with people and organization that can help push for its use and adoption...for the sake of their supporters and believers. The cryptocurrency marketplace is getting bigger everyday and certainly there is always a space for a good project.
2490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Recent Bitcoin Volatility due to Binance Hack ? Market Manipulation on: May 12, 2019, 06:23:16 PM
No way this is possible, How can Binance control the price of Bitcoin? Where did this come from? What's price of Bitcoin to do with Hackers who hacked Binance? Where do you see the manipulation?  It is normal for the price to go up by $500 or more, if it can go down by the same amount in a day or couple of days, this is natural and that is why it is called Bull run. Stop thinking negative and remember this - if the price goes down it will also go up and vice versa. Cheers  Grin

There is absolutely no connection in between the two events that recently transpired in the world of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Now, the hack should have been a catalyst for Bitcoin to dump but instead it ignored the hacking news and went on ballistic. The recent rise of Bitcoin is actually overdue as if a volcano that has already build up all the materials to spew to the sky. This can be the start of the bull run and for Bitcoin it is normal if there are no triggers actually. With Bitcoin, there can be a pump or there can be a dump and there is no need to look for reasons for them. Yes, there is no manipulation this time but maybe just speculations which can be normal with Bitcoin.
2491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Safety Concerns with Bitcoin? on: May 12, 2019, 06:14:31 PM
Bitcoin mining machines are the primary cause of concern in my opinion since they are not very energy efficient which poses a huge problem to the environment around us. This is why all the current mining machines need to be shut down and a fresh batch of 100% energy efficient machines need to be released to address this issue.

This is one of the most visible concerns I also have with Bitcoin. We are living at an era where environmental degradation is affecting all of us and I hate to see that Bitcoin mining is also contributing to this malady all because it is eating too much power in doing its thing. I know that we already have greener and renewable energy alternatives but it would still be wiser if there can be a better and greener alternative that Bitcoin will be using. I am hoping that there are now people or organizations addressing this problem by coming up with mining machines that can run in lesser power requirements. Aside from the environment, there are now also many places which are critical to mining all because of the electricity consumption.
2492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ZB.com, ZBG, BW Announces First LaunchPad with V SYSTEMS by Sunny King on: May 12, 2019, 02:59:34 PM
Laucnch pad is the new money minting machine in town, which benefits both the exchange, developers and few who are lucky to have bought good IEO, we have a lot of shitty IEO now, some will even have an IEO in an exchange but will still go to Folkdelta and start trading there, alleging that bounty hunters want to destroy the project. One has to be careful of what they spend their money on.

Soon all big and small cryptocurrency exchanges will have their own similar launch pad platform as IEO seems to be gaining traction in the market after STO failed to get the interest of most influential figures. Now, am just hoping that this will not be abused leaving many token buyers again holding empty bags. IEO is now tied to the integrity and reputation of an exchange so I am assuming that there is a thorough vetting before a project is welcome onboard otherwise this can just be another version of the despised ICOs of 2018 and 2018. Let's always evaluate well any project that we want to support with our pockets.
2493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your definition of shitcoin? on: May 12, 2019, 02:43:57 PM
you can see in coinmarketcap, 90% of all altcoins currently available are shitcoin. all coins that are always dumped during yesterday's decline are shitcoin. coins that move because of speculation and rumors are shitcoin. and the coin of the scam project is shitcoin.

that's the definition of shitcoin in my opinion

So there is only 10% of those in the CoinMarketCap which can be considered not shitcoin. Well, you can be telling the truth. But what can be amazing is that there are more and more shitcoins out there that never made it to any exchange leaving many investors with nothing but empty bags dismayed with the whole cryptocurrency experience. Unfortunately, sometimes it can be hard to determine a shitcoin project from a real one and there are those which started so well but ended up bad. Just recently, there is the IEO trend...do you think this can help us avoid shitcoins?
2494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: US senators wants to know why Facebook wants crypto on: May 12, 2019, 02:32:59 PM
It will be easier for me to pay for my ads on Facebook than using my debit card, with sometimes having restrictions from my bank and paying more than acceptable charges as compared with cryptocurrency charges. Facebook stable coin won't be anonymous I guess, so things can be tracked and audited.
I agree that there is no concern about this. I am sure that if this is realized, the use of advertising will increase, because of the ease of transaction and transparency. This will be the next stable coin and many people benefit from these coins throughout the world.

So the government is now really afraid of cryptocurrency as something that they can't audit, track and of course control. And now that Facebook has big plans to go into cryptocurrency and might be integrating this to their operation not just in Facebook but also with other platforms it is controlling, some people in the government are concerned. I am not actually wondering why. But of course, we know that Facebook is just following the trend and they are expecting that cryptocurrency can do more wonders for their overall business and revenues. Whether the entrance of Facebook into cryptocurrency can be positive to the industry, this remains to be seen. It would be intriguing how Mark and his team can handle this inquiry.
2495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 37,000 Investors Await Refunds from ‘Illegal’ $90 Million Envion ICO on: May 12, 2019, 02:23:29 PM

I was one of the victims of this unfortunate scam. I was part of the many who promoted the bounty in social media but I did not get anything out of that. I invested around $100 in buying some tokens because I was made to believe that this was the next big thing in Bitcoin mining business.  The project was really convincing as it was based on a doable and viable idea but something sinister was going on behind the scene. I am really hoping that victims can be refunded with their money no matter how small. This can be a big justice for all of us and a big reminded that people behind any project have the big responsibility to the people who supported and believed on them. Envion is now part of the list of big cryptocurrency-related scams and this is actually sad.
2496  Economy / Economics / Re: Will the next economic collapse trigger massive crypto adoption? on: May 12, 2019, 02:02:15 PM
Already the situation is clearly visible in South America countries like Argentina and Venezuela country affected due to hyperinflation now crypto is main source of  transaction

It would be exciting to see how people will be reacting to Bitcoin once there can be a global crisis akin to 2008. Will they go for the real gold or Bitcoin its digital version?  What we are seeing in Venezuela is that there are many people who are using it to survive buying foods in nearby countries because their own fiat money bolivar is practically worthless. I am sure that there can be a big economic crash, people will look at Bitcoin as an alternative to protect their wealth though some might be discouraged by its volatility unlike the real gold. Though we should not be wishing for a crisis but once there will be it can be worth watching how the market will do with Bitcoin.
2497  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-05-12] BTC surges 104% in 2019; BNB with 292% growth on: May 12, 2019, 01:39:26 PM

Quote

With the bears leaving the market, the collective cryptocurrency market was soaring by double digits. Even though Bitcoin BTC was leading the rally, the king coin was not the crypto posting the highest price hike in 2019.

Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange’s native crypto, Binance Coin [BNB] saw a surge in its price by a massive 292.25%, followed by Litecoin [LTC] with 217.86% from January 2019 till May 2019.

Bitcoin, which caused the rally of most major coins, reported a 104.44% from January 2019 to May 2019. Bitcoin BTC, the largest cryptocurrency, crossed its recent $7k mark and was valued at $7,360.77 with a market cap of $130 billion, at press time. The 24-hour trading volume of the coin was reported to be $29.50 billion as it spiked by 8.53% over the past day and continued its bullish momentum by 1.36% in an hour.

I think it is now official that the bear market has finally been beaten by the bull and so we are looking forward for more greens and growth for the rest of the year that is if there will be no negative developments that can affect the whole market. While the focus right now is on Bitcoin, alts are also showing some movements though not as dramatic as we had seen in 2017 except for BNB which leads the way in terms of growth despite the recent Binance hack.

2498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Just a Shady ‘Ponzi Scheme,’ Rants Goldbug Peter Schiff on: May 12, 2019, 01:29:32 PM
As you can see on the link below, another CEO of the another big advisory firm is saying that Bitcoin is nothing more but a big scam. A couple of years ago similar words said by Morgan Stanley CEO caused a huge amount of FUD that started a big wave of panic selling. But now we may see that those things doesn't really have much influence on crypto market. How do you think, maybe the crypto market will soon become big enough to get resistance to such kinds of FUD?

One thing for sure, today the Bitcoin marketplace is not anymore affected by anyone no matter how powerful or famous saying that Bitcoin is just another big scam and that it will soon die a natural death -- or any similar statements for that matter. Bitcoin is here to stay and for now no power can stop much more a relatively unknown guy saying something against Bitcoin probably for the main reason of getting media mileage. I think we are already out of the woods for this kind of FUD. Bitcoin ignored the big hack in Binance and it will continue to ignore any misguided statements from anyone out there.
2499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DID SATOSHI EVER THOUGHT TO MAKE BITCOIN A MAINSTREAM CURRENCY? on: May 12, 2019, 01:22:46 PM
Satoshi have made the point clear in his first post you quoted, that bitcoin will be convenient for those who are looking away from the usual centralized means of financial transactions such as ownership of credit card and using them and also to keep financial transactions anonymous from others, and at that Satoshi never have the intention of making bitcoin a mainstream currency.

He did not actually imagine that Bitcoin can grow as big as it is today practically because he knows that competing with the traditional financial and monetary system can be difficult. Basing on the posts he made on this forum, it is quite clear that in creating Bitcoin he had no intention that it should be replacing the fiat money we used to have...and right so I don't believe that Bitcoin can actually replace all the fiat money we have now because in the first place we are still under the power of the government. I am convinced that Bitcoin can sit side by side with the fiat money offering a good alternative for people to appreciate and use. I am for it becoming part of the mainstream economy but never as a monopoly. In a diversified global economy, Bitcoin can beautifully be a powerful part of it.

Where did they get the rest 2.3 billion people? I guess they are counting the alien too  Grin
I didn't read the project much though, since the market condition has improved, it will be a better idea to invest in legit ICO, IEO. For some instant profit, it will be good to invest in harmony.
No, it means this project aims to be something useful for a very long term. Their goal is deliver scalability for decentralize platform. I personally don't know much about this project but since I'm one of Binance supporters, I'm interested to learn about this one and maybe will buy some tokens (after clearly understand the project). Get an opportunity to conduct a tokensale on Binance Launchpad is something great for that project.

When I first saw the project, to tell you honestly I was not impressed that much because I assumed it would be just another "dreamy" type of a project. Later on when someone pointed out to me the details and the team I realized that Harmony can be a good project. Many of their team members are coming from Silicon Valley with many good years of experience and the project slowly evolved through the years. Of course, there is no guarantee that this can be successful and can gain enough traction in the market but at least I am seeing a good chance that it will. Doing the crowdsale in the Binance Launchpad can mean something on its integrity and potential so good luck to its many supporters and token buyers.
