2521  Economy / Reputation / Re: Using a bot to complete bounty activities?!? on: December 01, 2018, 05:20:27 AM
If the advertiser is getting the exposure they are paying for this should not be an issue.

The policing of made up “rules” for bounty campaigns is ridiculous.
2522  Economy / Reputation / Re: Lutpin and his kinds are not gods so stop it. on: December 01, 2018, 05:17:57 AM
Being 6 weeks late in paying someone, especially with no communication should be a massive red flag and it would be prudent to not trust him with additional money until at least this gets resolved, possibly longer depending on the circumstances the money is paid, assuming it eventually gets paid.

He has been trusted with a lot of money in the past but you don’t know his financial situation now. You also don’t know if he has decided that his reputation isn’t worth the amount he is holding for others.

I would avoid doing business with him until this is resolved.
2523  Other / Meta / Re: hall finney last login time at bitcointalk.org on: December 01, 2018, 05:05:42 AM
This was discussed around the time it happened and I believe it was speculated at the time that it was his wife or other family member that accessed the account.
2524  Other / Politics & Society / Re: #breaking Michael Avenatti arrested (report) on: November 29, 2018, 05:25:33 AM
Ahaha. The charges were dropped in LA.

The charges were not dropped, the DA declined to bring felony charges based on the evidence. This is far from evidence of Creepy Porn Lawyer's proof of innocence.

https://www.newsweek.com/michael-avenatti-calls-jacob-wohl-complete-fraud-who-should-be-incarcerated-1229016

I wonder if Jacob Wohl will be accountable for slander laws.

Surefire Intelligence is such an oxymoron company name; might as well be Surefire Ignorance.

Avenatti also floated the possibility of taking legal action against TMZ for the story, which originally identified the woman involved as the lawyer’s estranged wife, Lisa-Storie Avenatti. He tweeted that the person who wrote and approved the article “better get their checkbook ready” because the story was “purposely malicious and false.”

“It was designed to harm Lisa, me and my family and we are going to expose TMZ for what they did,” he tweeted. “No journalist should rely on or defend garbage like that.”
1 - I don't think there is any evidence that Wohl was behind Avenatti's arrest. I haven't seen any.

The fact that the victim was Avenatti's (ex) girlfriend instead of his ex wife, as briefly reported by TMZ is not going to give Avenatti a cause of action for libel. This discrepancy would only have a nominal impact on his reputation. The reporting that Avenatti said "she hit me first" when he was in the apartment building is most damaging to his reputation, and to my knowledge, this has not been refuted by Avenatti.
2525  Other / Meta / Re: Hero Member account locked! @ADMIN on: November 29, 2018, 05:13:53 AM
The OP has a decent amount of positive trust and trade history.

Provided there are no red flags indicating the OP might not be the owner of his account, I would recommend processing his request.

@OP -- I would recommend that you amend your signed message to include an email address you want associated with your account. Your signed message does not specify ask to have your account unlocked. Perhaps a good signed message would be:
Quote
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>.
or
Quote
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. I confirm the email associated with my account should be <email>. The current date is <date>. Please unlock my account.
2526  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk should make their own coin on: November 29, 2018, 01:29:44 AM
I've heard rumors that people who have recently been banned for plagiarism are planning to fork Bitcoin and get their own chain called:

Carry a Signature SV (SV stands for 'shitposting violator')

users should
spam.

Satoshi's Vision!
I think the first person to use this argument to have their ban lifted should automatically get unbanned.

I think this actually would be a good idea, perhaps for things like captcha bypasses, and the ability to rank up and/or the ability to wear (better) signatures. The purpose of using it instead of using Bitcoin would be so that micropayments can be used without bloating the blockchain.
2527  Other / Meta / Re: Trust spam report + suggestion on: November 26, 2018, 05:06:39 AM
I don't think OP should worry about untrusted feedback. It will not reflect on your trust rating unless they become DT.
The problem with this is that it is difficult to pressure someone to remove the rating long after they give the rating if they are later included in the DT network. Also, if someone not in DT starting leaving questionable ratings that do not receive pushback, then someone in DT might start leaving similar questionable ratings.
2528  Other / Meta / Re: Censorship on BCT software forum is a joke. on: November 26, 2018, 04:51:39 AM
Can you post the text of what you had deleted and the threads these posts were originally posted in?

The administration (and often the moderators) frequently make questionable comments in regards to the quality of software of Bitcoin Core, however I am not sure I would say forum policies result in posts being deleted that amount to censorship. I am open to being shown wrong however.
2529  Economy / Reputation / Re: What happened to Lutpin? on: November 25, 2018, 05:55:24 AM
It doesn't sound like Lutpin was actually acting as an escrow agent to the campaign if they were delays caused by the owner of 777 casino.

If the owner of the 777 casino allowed the escrow wallet to become depleted, then lutpin should have warned participants that he was unable to guarantee payment.

He was escrow for Bitvest, also on the 777 campaign the escrow wallet was filled, he could have paid 1-2 weeks. He is unprofessional.
If he has the btc to pay participants but hasn’t done so, that would also be concerning. Especially considering he hasn’t given any explanation for the delay.

2531  Other / Meta / Re: Is merit abuse an issue worthy of temp banning or at least DT negative trust? on: November 24, 2018, 05:43:40 AM
I have been trying to enforce the merit abuse rules.
Where can one find these rules? How were these rules enacted?
Rules can be implicit / common practice.
It would be nice to have someone come up with a list of DOs /DONTs regarding merit based on roughly 1 year of practice sooner or later.

So far, I guess it's safe to assume that it's considered "blatant merit abuse" if you receive merit in an "obvious" return of merit.
Since that's heavily subjective, usually only cases of "considerable" amounts of merit are sanctioned.
Also, a single merit to a newbie may be scrutinized.

Other than that, I'm at a loss when it comes to "rules".
I am strongly against telling people what they can and cannot do with things they have duely earned, and merit falls into this category by way of the fact they ultimately received merit for making a ‘good’ post at one point.

Also these ‘rules’ are something that a dozen or so people have implemented (and enforce unevenly) out of two million registered users and hundreds of thousands of active users. These people were in no way elected to make the rules and you can’t argue this is a private forum because it’s own is on the record as being against these rules.

Further, the concept of merit, or limited amount of karma that can be sent based on the amount received is a very uncommon concept and I would not be surprised to see many who are unfamiliar with merit testing it out with their alts. Sending merit is not reversible, so if someone does this and later sees it is “against the rules” they are liable to receive negative trust forever even if they conduct themselves in a trustworthy way.

Sending merit to an alt is not akin to scamming, however the presence of a negative rating implies someone is a scammer. If someone sees many people with negative ratings for this reason, they will give less weight to a negative rating to an actual scammer who has legitimately (attempted to) stolen money.

A suspect can deny gravity if they want, they are free to, that doesn't make gravity go away or change. Also denying charges is not equivalent to rejecting the entire judicial process. Also, weren't you people fond of saying over and over again "this is not a criminal investigation, it is a job interview?" So which is it?

The kettle calling the pot black right there.

Weren't you one of the people the enjoy sucking trump's cock? Cause I'm pretty sure you do that in every thread regardless of the topic.

Avenatti respects the legal system unlike others.
Um, yea, that’s not true.

Creepy Porn Lawyer is under investigation for multiple ethical issues by the Bar. He is under investigation by law enforcement for perjury related issues.

On its face, he has taken actions that were not in the best interest of his client but would benefit him.

I am fairly confident there are other issues that I can’t think of right now.
2535  Economy / Speculation / Re: CSW's "hash wars" impact on BTC price? on: November 17, 2018, 05:12:08 AM
An assumption made by crypto holders is that miners will act in their own self interest and not risk the value of their equipment to try to attack the Blockchain of a coin they are mining, especially for a major (alt🧺) coin.

CW is suggesting this might not be a valid assumption. If BCH is effectively destroyed then I suspect there will be much less confidence in crypto including bitcoin. If BCH survives without a Blockchain related attack, additional confidence in crypto may be installed.
2536  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FBI agent’s text to lover: ‘We’ll stop’ Trump from becoming president on: November 17, 2018, 05:00:30 AM
So will we see coveted Impeachment or not? Is House of Representative enough for that, or will Lords... erm... senators block it?
Inpeachment is basically an indictment and the senate will act as a jury to the charges. If the senate votes by 2/3 majority to convict then the president will be removed from office.

The house will almost certainly impeach Trump, possibly multiple times however the senate will not come close to getting any kind of majority to convict, let alone a 2/3 majority.
2537  Other / Meta / Re: Can we sue bitcoin.com for plagiarism? on: November 16, 2018, 07:56:30 AM
I am not sure if this is a serious post or not.

There are a number of problems with your case, the largest being that forum.bitcoin.com is not plagiarizing bitcointalk.

There are likely a large number of forums with similar board names, and there is a decent chance that some of the admins of each of the forums had not even visited any of the other forums with similar board names.

I’m surprised they didn’t go any steps further.
I am not even sure what this is supposed to mean.
2538  Other / Meta / Re: Flaws In The Merit System. on: November 16, 2018, 05:29:08 AM
The problem with this kind of behavior is that it will encourage the forum to become an echo chamber, and will encourage others to agree with those who clearly have merit to spend.

That is one of the issues u have also noticed with users taking sides to try and get favour from higher ranked members

And some members use it as a reward for agreeing with them. (Some merit sources as well)

Meriting something you agree with is quite a task, but merits should be given you deserving posts regardless of your position, and point of view.

We might need a full guideline on how to merit posts and not just a few lines in the official rules.
I don't think it is appropriate to regulate how merits are given, especially if people are volunteering their time to give out merits. It wouldn't be fair that someone has to learn (and be accountable to) a bunch of rules just to give out something that doesn't have any benefit to them. You cannot 'unsend' merit, so someone who breaks a hypothetical rule would have a hard time remediating their mistake.

Aren't merits an overrated like button?
That is very much similar to what the merit system is. Although not all merit is given because the sender agrees (or "likes") the post, as a decent amount of merit sent is sent for posts of which a decent amount of effort was put into it.

Maybe for the next April fools day joke, theymos can implement a system in which people can award a "LOL" to posts they find funny, and an "angry merit" for posts that upset someone. People would need both merit and "LOL" in order to rank up, and if the "angry merit" to "LOL" ratio gets too high, their avatar will automatically change to a warning that the person is mean.

"First Mueller and now me," Avenatti tweeted. "When we are fully exonerated I am coming for you Jacob Wohl aka Surefire."

Wohl, a supporter of President Donald Trump, was recently implicated in a convoluted scheme to falsely accuse special counsel Robert Mueller of sexual misconduct.

The plan, which has been referred to the FBI for investigation, had called for Wohl to bring forward women with misconduct allegations against Mueller. The allegations were supposedly uncovered through an investigation outfit called Surefire Intelligence.

After Avenatti was arrested on Wednesday, Surefire retweeted a report about the case with an additional comment: "Surefire Intelligence strikes again."

Avenatti was taken into custody by Los Angeles police on Wednesday, in connection to an alleged act of felony domestic violence.

Daniels issued a statement backing Avenatti, but said she'd look for a new lawyer if the allegations proved to be true.

"These are serious and obviously very troubling allegations, but right now that is all they are: allegations," according to her statement.

"We should all reserve judgment until the investigation — an investigation Michael has said he welcomes — is complete, and that's what I'm going to do. But of course I do not condone violence against women and if these allegations prove true I will be seeking new representation."

The difference between an innocent and guilty individual is bolded. When you're innocent, you know the investigation will come up short. Unlike Trump and the other dirty individuals who work to stall and criticize the investigations into their corrupt past.

Gonna be funny when Jacob Wohl sits behind bars for conspiracy to make fraudulent charges.
It is strange to see someone like you to advocate to wait for the facts to come out. I could have sworn that you used to be strongly against that.
2540  Other / Meta / Re: Captcha bypass on: November 15, 2018, 05:38:36 AM
Another Q - This captcha bypass link.
If someone were to find my link in a file would they be able to figure out what account is related to that link short of subpoenaing Theymos?
It looks like you will get an error message if you try to login using a link that is not associated with the account you are trying to login to. You could presumably brute force which account is associated with a code by trying to login to every account until you no longer get an error message. I suspect theymos would detect this and invalidate the code before someone could try many accounts.

OH DAMN

For all other accounts it gives "invalid code" with incorrect password.
For the correct account it gives "invalid password" with incorrect password.
It lets you try as fast as you can too.

It would be easy to brute force if you had a list of suspects, even the list of active accounts isn't that many if you use a bot.

Bug?
You could argue this is a bug. Like I said before, I don't think theymos would allow a large number of attempts before he would take action on the code/link being used.

Perhaps a solution would be to invalidate the code after xxx number of consecutive attempts to login to an account not associated with the code.
