All you can do it buy when you think the price is good, there are no shortcuts, mining is just as expensive as the difficulty makes your miner worthless in about 17 seconds.

got it going Loving Quark!!
2543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt-Coins holding up, now climbing more than Bitcoin on: November 22, 2013, 10:09:38 AM
When the Bitcoin price saw new heights in October and November, all alt-coins were pushed down because of a massive escape from alt-coins into Bitcoin. The market is very new and the traders have clearly not standardized their trading habit (trades are all over the place with little reasoning behind). One should have thought that when Bitcoin climbed, alt-coins should have followed the increase, at least to a certain level. However, most Alt-Coins either held their USD value or even fell compared to their original USD value before the rise of Bitcoin. This does not make any sense, as the cryptocurrency world has just started and most alt-coins have a very bright future.

We believe that the trades that happened were emotional trades limited to: fear.

Most have a bright future?  Most are clones of bitcoin but have less network security.  The values have been absolutely destroyed recently too, maybe they kept their dollar value, but bitcoin has quintupled in value and everyone buys altcoins with bitcoins...
2544  Economy / Speculation / Re: If you invest in bitcoin, do you invest in alternative cryptocurrencies as well? on: November 22, 2013, 10:06:49 AM
It will be very difficult to prevent ASIC on any high value coin, if a CPU/GPU can do something well, why would something specifically made to do that function not be able to do it better?

I can't find the source code for that miner.
There is another here but  https://github.com/Neisklar/quarkcoin-cpuminer

I tried this as mentioned earlier in this thread:

apt-get install git libcurl-dev libjansson-dev
git clone https://github.com/Neisklar/quarkcoin-cpuminer
./autogen.sh
./configure CFLAGS="-O3"
make
strip minerd

Without success.  As you can see, I am pretty rubbish in lunux, I am just looking for anyway to mine, I am not married to any one miner.

there is nowhere else to deposit a few trillion dollars risk free

Risk free? That is why the rates are low but it is completely flawed thinking. Was money in Greece risk free? or Iceland? or Argentina?
Ok they are smaller economies, but the big markets are just bigger Ponzis.  As long as everyone keeps their money in, it is fine.  When people start cashing out then it is over.

As for actually paying off debt, when has that happened?  If you mean rolling it over, that is one thing, the idea that they will be paying it back is a joke.
2547  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FEC says no to bitcoin politcal contributions on: November 22, 2013, 07:27:31 AM
They should be happy to get whatever contributions they can get... if they want fiat, then cash out the BTC donations..
2548  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Norway Will Tax Bitcoin + VAT on: November 22, 2013, 07:25:51 AM
That sucks, not sure how it will be enforced but it must be annoying for the Norwegians
2549  Economy / Economics / Re: The Eighth Wonder of the World - The Federal Reserve Balance Sheet on: November 22, 2013, 07:23:37 AM
Australia 275% total debt-to-GDP ratio. Read and weep.

And your GDP will implode when China does, since they buy much of your mining output, which is a huge chunk of your mono-economy. So the ratio above will skyrocket.

Moneyweek claim the UK has 908% debt total.  It's not a pissing contest, we are all in trouble!
2550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predictions if Chinese Government Changes Their Stance In Next 6 Months on: November 22, 2013, 07:22:23 AM
I think they couldn't block it but they could make it difficult to use.  I wouldn't mess with the Chinese government if they banned it.
I expect the price would fall by at least 75% if 20% of the world and the 2nd biggest market was cut out!

The new normal!

is there any server mining going on with QRK?  If so which pool is best to use?
EDIT: It's a linux server by the way.

All the pools are listed on the front page , linux should be fine , just complie, there are lots of miners , depending on your server you may solo not sure ?

I couldn't get it to compile on Linux yesterday.
I tried:
apt-get install unzip -y
cd
wget http://stonefoz.myfastmail.com/cpuminer-quark2.zip
unzip cpuminer-quark2.zip
cd cpuminer-quark2
CFLAGS="-O3 -msse2" ./configure

but it wouldn't configure... I'm on Ubuntu 12,04 LTS 64...  feel free to PM me if you can help, I'll be sure to tip some QRK if I get it going and mine some coins!
2553  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How long till the end of the USDollar? on: November 21, 2013, 09:57:17 AM
It's coming along nicely at the moment.  The fed is being doveish but the bond yields are nearing 3% anyway.
and that's before they even start to taper QE.  Not stop QE, taper it!  When they taper and yields go to 3.5%+, then they will have to start up the printing presses again.

They can't afford to pay any real world valuation interest on their debt, so they need QE infinity.  And more and more to keep rates low.  Soon enough China will move away from USD (already happening), then boom, down goes the greenback!

Or Japan could explode first and everyone will see the similarity, then down goes the greenback!
2554  Economy / Economics / Re: I am getting tired of BTC on: November 21, 2013, 09:51:36 AM
it can become a bit all encompassing, especially when I don't actually use it for anything except as an investment, even though it is a currency!
2555  Economy / Speculation / Re: So I guess we're going back up? on: November 21, 2013, 09:50:37 AM
it'll just take 1 big sale to get everyone running again though
2556  Economy / Speculation / Re: China is not participating in this "Dead Cat Bounce" on: November 21, 2013, 09:49:14 AM
it was short and sharp if that was the crash.  I would even just call it a correction

Even the new none clone coins aren't that different to the end user.  CureCoin could be good, at least it is doing something useful with the processing power.
2560  Economy / Economics / Re: mtgox and bitstamp have similar rate on: November 20, 2013, 12:31:04 PM
weird, the prices were $100 apart yesterday!
Either Gox is a $ black hole or it isn't.  I don't understand the % differences...
