1561  Economy / Speculation / Re: Since NYSE invested so much in Coinbase, moon guaranteed, right? ...Right? on: March 05, 2015, 10:36:53 AM
Not exzactly sure what you are getting on about with this post. Care to explain further?
Sure.

1. A lot of people were really excited about Coinbase regulated™ exchange, based on some poster here it's the exchange that was supposed to bring Wall Street in, and they were taking the VC money ($75 million) in Coinbase as some guaranteed that bitcoin will greatly appreciate in value because of that. I simply show that Nobody is using Coinbase as of now, the Bid sum (amount of fiat sitting on the exchange waiting to buy BTC) is very low.

2. Venture capital money shouldn't be taken as some guarantee, because there are notable examples of huge bankrupcy fails in history even when the companies were backed by Microsoft, Visa, ecc. It didn't help.

I think Wall Street can afford to speculate with $75mil, even if they lose ALL of that, they might be ok!
Having a regulated exchange is best for the small users who need to be able to trust that their money and data is safe, not like with Mt. Gox
1562  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How did I solve 1 Block this quick? on: March 05, 2015, 10:29:05 AM
Hi. I am confused and need some answers. I just solved a block late last night but do not know how. I have a 1 TH/s DragonMiner and a 1.6 TH/s TerraMiner Both running on different workers. I heard that with the power that I have you could probably mine a block every 6 years….Huh?… Is it luck? Will my machine keep solving blocks? I got the machine on the 7th of January, 2015. I just set this mining pool up 11-13 hours ago and I solved a block..!!! XD I don't know whether to be happy or sad. I hope that I can get many more in the future. I also got 3 more emails claiming I found 3 blocks but the worker was not mine. How would I handle that? Do I get a percentage of that? How do I request that percentage.

Proof:  Block # 338159    6 left     ItsPsychoMods   01/09/2015 05:50:17   40,640,955,016.5765   25.00    40,640,955,017   31,724,355,444   78.06

Any answers would be great.

Thanks

Wow, the most amazing luck. I wonder if anyone has somehow fluked a block with like a single Block Erupter. xD
The person with the first ever Block Eruptors probably did, but they were lording it up over all those loser GPUs of the time!
I have turned on my CPU mining recently for a few minutes, there is that dream that coins will suddenly appear in my account, but I guess the odds are far far worse than me winning the lottery, and I very rarely buy lottery tickets!
1563  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's year 2050 and Bitcoin is the world currency... on: March 05, 2015, 10:22:57 AM
From the Bitcoin Wiki:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/FAQ#But_if_no_more_coins_are_generated.2C_what_happens_when_Bitcoins_are_lost.3F_Won.27t_that_be_a_problem.3F

Quote
But if no more coins are generated, what happens when Bitcoins are lost? Won't that be a problem?
Because of the law of supply and demand, when fewer bitcoins are available the ones that are left will be in higher demand, and therefore will have a higher value. So, as Bitcoins are lost, the remaining bitcoins will eventually increase in value to compensate. As the value of a bitcoin increases, the number of bitcoins required to purchase an item decreases. This is a deflationary economic model. As the average transaction size reduces, transactions will probably be denominated in sub-units of a bitcoin such as millibitcoins ("Millies") or microbitcoins ("Mikes").

The Bitcoin protocol uses a base unit of one hundred-millionth of a Bitcoin ("a Satoshi"), but unused bits are available in the protocol fields that could be used to denote even smaller subdivisions.

That should answer your question.
How do they decide and confirm that bitcoins have been lost? It can't be that if they lay dormant for too long, so how can it be confirmed?
Would the mining re-start or increase to previous levels in this case?

I had assumed, apparently incorrectly, that the rest of the coins would increase in value to compensate.

Not sure what to make of this.
I understand the point he was making (see coin desk article) but think that what he did or attempted to do does not justify it.
BTC has a mixed picture in the outside world. This only portrays it worse not to mention the effect that supporting terrorists can have!

What do you think?

I think he shouldn't be able to and it is good that it was blocked!  It is a fast track to getting a service shut down, funding terrorism!
I'm not a huge fan of the whole tipping idea as a whole, but this kind of thing just adds to the negative press around bitcoin.
1565  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: which type of website is still lacking in bitcoin world? on: March 05, 2015, 10:16:33 AM
I would love to see a bitcoin betfair.  I know that is a gambling site, which is obviously pretty well covered with bitcoin websites already, but I think it would be the perfect platform for bitcoin.

For those of you who don't know, Betfair is a person to person betting exchange. Not one where someone makes a market with a yes/no question and people bet, rather you can act as the bookmaker or the punter, depending on what you think will happen.  I could bet that a Horse will not win a race, allowing someone to bet on them with me.  Then free market economics take over, resulting in the odds being better than those offered by companies who need a bigger cut of the profits.#

Someone could do it, and probably will sometime.  I hope soon as Betfair is banned here in Germany!

"Politicians and the media are using Vladimir Putin and Ukraine to justify military expansionism. It’s dangerous folly"

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/mar/04/demonisation-russia-risks-paving-way-for-war

I think this could have been posted in one of the many other Russia vs the west threads...
I think Ukraine is desparate for war. Russia is desparate not to have Nato troops walking around next to their borders. America wants the whole world to accept that they are the overlords and must do whatever they say.  Media here only see the western side of things, so report it as such.  I don't even like discussing the whole situation with mainstream press readers, because they just say that Putin is like Hitler.  I don't think he is a great guy or anything, but I think fearing your enemies politically taking over your once best friend and neighbour is a fairly normal response to have, and most other countries would fight back in some way too.
1567  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin dead? on: March 05, 2015, 10:06:19 AM

Meanwhile the real economy is firing on all cylinders, stock markets are at all time highs, corporate earnings are higher than ever, unemployment is low, etc. Even amid the boom, no one cares about bitcoin any more.

I disagree massively with this part.  Stock markets are high, agreed.  This is due to stock buybacks and huge bubble P/E ratios, not fundamentals though.  Unemployment as paid by the state is low, I agree.  But the participation level is very very low, almost the same as in the trough of the recession in 2008.  People may not care about Bitcoin, but do you seriously not think that there will be an "internet money" in the future, so that you can pay for anything, anywhere without having to convert?  I think there will be, and I am essentiall betting that it will be Bitcoin.
1568  Economy / Auctions / Re: Sr. Member | Near to 400 Activity | 1 +ve Trust Feedback | Cheap | Don't Miss The Chance!!! on: March 05, 2015, 10:00:17 AM
Can you prove the ownership of the account ?

I have run across Muhammed Z. for quite a while and often. Think you can pretty safely assume that they´re for real.

I agree. Muhammed Z. is a trusted member.

I agree too. He is and will be
He helps everyone and have added me on Skype
He helps whenever i need. So no doubt there is need of any Escrow
And a Senior member can Earn upto BTC0.52 a Month from dadice Campaign. So 173% ROI in just a Month and the rests are real Profits.
So this is a Good deal Grin
Best paying signature campaign is now bit-x again. Theoretically users can earn a lot more than 0.52 BTC now since number of posts in bit-x is not limited. But you need to quit your job to be able to do it. Anyway deal is on.
If someone goes on to make 1000 posts a month he can get 1 BTC Cool (Full Member)
The high paying Sig campaigns should raise the price of accounts, but are we really sure that a full 1000 posts in a month would be paid out?  It is unpresidented, my unlimited data on my phone isn't really unlimited, I can imagine that this will have some unadvertised, fair usage limit too.
1569  Economy / Gambling / Re: English Premier League and UEFA champions league Picks on: March 05, 2015, 09:53:02 AM
With man city falling to bits, Chelsea have to concentrate on the champions league, the league will probably be gifted to them unless they start playing dreadfully or liverpool win every game left..

i think Arsenal got the better chance to chase up rather than liverpool, liverpool sometimes play badly, but arsenal keep on playing consistent , but their defender is pretty much crap when they are against Monaco
Arsenal are great when they have no chance of winning the league, as soon as they start to get close (something that happens quite a lot) they get nervous and drop points stupidly.
I look forward to the day when they actually maintain a title charge, they are still the best team to watch, but I don't see it being anytime soon.
1570  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is there any RISK FREE way to invest your Bitcoins? on: March 05, 2015, 09:49:11 AM
Hi guys i just wanna know is there any risk free way to invest bitcoins so they guaranteed grow
It doesn't matter if interest is low but just want to know if there is some place or site in which we invest bitcoins and our bitcoins are secured and we get guaranteed interest(doesn't matter if low)
please help i am newbie in this Smiley
There is no risk free way to invest anything of any value, so no, there is no way to invest your Bitcoins risk free.
I do have an investment in Just-Dice that I think is about as risk free as it comes, but that can go us as well as down, I guess I mean the house edge is in ma favour and I don't think Dooglus will run off with my money.
1571  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Purse.io - Bitcoin Amazon Marketplace - Save ~10-25% on Amazon Wishlist on: March 05, 2015, 09:47:09 AM
In the last time i have the feeling purse staff is overworked. In the beginning the support was quite fast but now problems stay unsolved for me.

For example the refund thing i mentioned above. Then i have another problem with packages i sent back to amazon. Unsolved since months. Spender really should be careful with amazon refunds because practically no amazon employee knows what to do with wishlist returns. Out of 4 products i sent back only one was treated correctly. The correct way to handle things is that you go into send back center on amazon and chose to send back a product from wishlist. Make sure you still know the order id since it doesn't show up in your amazon account. Then you can send back. Or you need to call them. Problem is... even if you do so you have a high chance of failing. If you mail them or chat with amazon then they don't have a clue what to do. Only the people on phone mostly know.

In my case only one product was refunded correctly. I have the money in my amazon account now. Three other products are not. Because amazon failed and sent the money back to the buyer. Even when i cleared things with them before. Great. I asked purse Ashkan in November! They wanted to solve it with the buyer. Nothing happened till now. I now tried to solve things with amazon and wanted to ask them to charge the buyer again and give me the refund. And they told me that it's too late now. Great. Price of the products are 78,40€ + 35,85€ + 15,99€ on amazon. My purse discount was 10-15% on the products. So now i have to believe i lost 130€ since purse didn't fix it till now.

I never thought that amazon is so much trouble when sending back wishlist items. I mean it's not exactly a new thing. And purse did not solve it until it was too late now. I didn't know that might happen.

Next thing is that admins are going around in orders and deciding and making things without real traces what happened. For example an admin claimed he will close an order of three products. The biggest product was still in wishlist for some reason so the admin claimed 2 items were bought and shipped and i will get a refund for the third one. I wrote "no, i did not get anything yet" but today it was closed. Till now i only got one of the items. Don't know if i will get the second. And even if i might have gotten a refund... there is no entry in the transaction list. The numbers change simply back and forth and i dont have a clue what happened. Maybe they refunded, maybe not. No email, no transaction entry. Simly arbitrary.

I like purse but it brings trouble and i don't like that it looks like i lost the 130€. Im not even able to call the buyer to ask him sending me the € another way. Though i see that its trouble for him. Purse should somehow find a way to make amazon refunds safe. As far as i know... never email or chat with amazon, they don't know anything and make surely stupid things. Don't use the contact center because you only can chose your own bought products and you only will get back answers that you can send back your own product. Call them or use the return center for wishlist items. But even then you can get the bad surprise that amazon is telling the seller that the item wants to be returned and the seller asks the buyer. He doesn't know of anything and the return is cancelled until you ask back why nothing happens. If for some reason you have a return label then make sure its a return label for presents. But even when... one of the items was sent back that way and still the money went to the buyer.

Then i have a support request asking where the error was with three orders that were only partly delivered and should be refunded accordingly. See post above. I asked where the error was in order to know how to rate the buyer. They wanted to check but nothing happened till then.

So purse for the moment is a nice place for a buyer though it still has enough child illnesses for spenders at the moment. At least orders are taken fast in the last days. But if you ever have such a return and you don't get the refund in your amazon account then don't wait for purse until it's too late.

I agree that they must be over-worked, and they say that they are doubling their help staff again in March, but they really aren't that helpful, as you say.
In my case the buyer asked for a refund through Amazon, which was immediately granted.  The amazon marketplace company contacted me later to confirm that the order was not received, as the buyer had claimed, which was not the case.  It's a scam case pure and simple, but Purse.io say that the scammer has to pay....  How is that going to happen?

I would love some better communication with them, but they don't really seem interested. To be honest I thought posting here might move things forward. Yesterday I got an email from them, but that was an advert saying I can ask for a 50% discount instead of just 25%.  I won't be using them ever again, with a 50% discount or not, I would just be living in fear of another scam situation not being dealt with by them.
1572  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin surpass 300 in the next 24 hours? on: March 05, 2015, 09:40:50 AM
Well, something will happen today (sharpiss up or down) due to the auction.
Not sure what will happen, specially because the results won't be known that soon.
The price is currently $269.  A 31 dollar increase today can't exactly be expected!  Especially when the last big move was a downwards one at about 10pm last night.
I will be more than happy with $275 at the end of the day without any big whale dumps knocking it back towards 250
1573  Economy / Economics / Re: Ecuador: There's no *new* digital currency on: March 05, 2015, 09:38:35 AM

Governments won't be willing to give up control of the currency.

I'm sure they care more about being able to 'print' digital currency than to take advantage of the features of bitcoin.

Absolutely.  It doesn't make sense to have a centralized decentralized currency Smiley

If the idea is to have central control and accountability, then there is no NEED for the bitcoin protocol.  The whole cryptostuff was incorporated in bitcoin just to be able to get rid of central control.  If there is central control, there's no need for mining, there's no need for difficulty, there is no need for nodes or this or that.

After all, the central authority can play "miner" but without the difficulty.  It can make public a block chain, but without difficulty, and PUBLISH simply the hash of the last centrally approved block.  Everybody can then check that the block chain corresponds to that hash, and can see all transactions in it.  As the central authority is to be trusted (voluntary, or by force), there's no need for the mining competition.  The central authority would also have a protocol to choose the "block reward", and as such issue more or less coins.

A "statecoin" would be a simplified version of bitcoin.  It would be a total disaster if imposed.  The central authority could see all transactions, cash couldn't exist, and we would be at the opposite of what bitcoin stands for.

I think it was the economist that had an article about the prospect of Greece adopting bitcoin.  I agreed with their point that it would be a bad idea for any country to adopt a highy defaltionary currency such as bitcoin, as well as being against what cryptocurrencies are about.  Crypto is internet money, it is the money of the people, it is like Wiki and Reddit, it doesn't need to be printed out and adopted by the old media.  Ecuador should probably loosen their crypto controls and their economy could become a bitcoin, or Ecuadorcoin hub in the future, right now they are probably best off sticking with the USD.
1574  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How do we destroy ISIS an co? on: March 05, 2015, 09:34:12 AM
I mean these guys need to be stopped if what we hear is true then they are the sickest vile human beings of recent years or are they?

What do you guys think do you believe what you hear and see on the news or is it just the media doing what they do best? 'lying' and blowing shit out of proportion..

They have captured a lot of the middle east has anyone got contact with friends or family who can say yay its true or nay it is not as bad as made out?
I beleive that they are dreadful people, possibly the sickest vilest human beings of recent years, I don't really think that the media is lying to us, I think they might be over-blowing the risk the pose to the west, but otherwise the reporting is fair enough.  My question would be though, why should we (the west) do anything?  We aren't the world's policeman.  The local countries of the region should probably intervene when neccessay, but I don't see it as a job for the west.
1575  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Conspiracy things.. on: March 05, 2015, 08:35:12 AM
Well everybody is talking about how some country is at war, rebels there, terrorist in the other way etc.. but i want to share a "theory" developed by a reputable investigator that can or cannot be true, but nobody knows it and is short words he wants to say this:

"Its all staged, the world is a huge movie theater and a human farm, they need to maintain the people manipulated and blind so they create all this problems to distract the society from waking up. Yes a human farm, just like the plants eat minerals then animals eat plants and we eat both,  we are not in the top of the food chain!, there are some life forms that could be ethereal and they eat us, their food is some kind of energy from our body (it can be negative energy) , he thinks in fact there are more levels above us in the food chain that below us.

..cheers.
I too have seen the Matrix!  Is this human farm of yours the same as that one, where we are basically a battery for computers to live off (a very inefficient one at that!)
I like the theory that we are a boot sequence for silicon life to start.  We design AI which then will live essentially for ever, but only thanks to the little push it got from carbon based life (Us).
1576  Economy / Economics / Re: could OP-RETURN, metadata and the blockchain be more valuable than BTC ? on: March 05, 2015, 08:32:29 AM
Already with OP_RETURN functionality people can coopt the bitcoin blockchain to digitally sign, notarize or provide proof of existence. Is this the real value of blockchain based cryptocurrency systems? Will the value in these metadata 'services' exceed the proof-of-work value of BTC in and of itself?
These are just open ended questions that I think are going to be very much at the forefront of the evolution of the bitcoin ecosystem in 2015-2016.

And if the blockchain becomes more valuable, do Bitcoins also become so? Of course someone could fork it to specifically focus on these auxillary functions, however why bother when there is ~400 petahashes of labor just waiting to verify your documents?

A lot of the chatter on mainstream websites about bitcoin is that it can be used for security and as a public ledger.  The PTB don't really want a global cheap currency to help the people, but they do see the advantage of being able to send encrypted data publically, as well as being able to have things permanently noted online, without security concerns.
1577  Economy / Speculation / Re: What goes up :) on: March 05, 2015, 08:05:41 AM
i don't think it will crash this time, until it rise to 300 or near that, i'm not selling before that

you could short now if you feel that way

those mini-drop are made for the little fish so they can dump they few coins and feed the whales...
We are below the price where it was 3 months ago, this isn't exactly bubble territory.  There is very little reason to expect that the price has to retrace it's little recent increase, but I think that about Golf and Silver a lot of the time, and they usually crash down pretty quickly afterwards!

In science fiction, this scenario — called “singularity” or “transcendence” — usually leads to robot versus human war and a contest for world domination.
But what if, rather than a physical battle, it was an economic one, with robots siphoning off our money or destroying the global economy with out-of-control algorithmic trading programmes? Perhaps it will not make for a great movie, but it seems the more likely outcome.

With Bitcoin, it's hard to see the downside. DACs (decentralize autonomous companies) are inevitable. This article is another vestige of irrational fear about money.

What would be the benefit to computers? A destroyed global economy makes no difference to them.
I also disagree that there will ever be a Human vs Computer battle for survival, once computers are at that stage, we have already lost any potential battle with them.

Zerohedge say that JPMorgen expect -3% interest rates and $:€ parity in 2015...
I personally think that the market is already so short the € and long the $, and it is 1.1. I don't see any quick movement to parity.

Last time when Grexit worries were in the news, the exchange rate was 1.24 or so, everyone was saying that it was too high, but it soon went to 1.35 before coming back to where it is now.  It's a tricky business FX trading!
