The best solution is to just remove signatures completely. In most of the threads, no actual conversation even takes place. It's just people posting their few lines for their signature campaigns. Bitcointalk would be 100x better without signatures. Keep this place for real conversations, crypto lovers, and not 3rd world crypto scammers.

My bad, I can not just recall it properly however I am having a feeling that I read a topic about mega thread few days or weeks. May be I did not pay much attention there. ...that threads like this should be automatically locked after it got a certain amount of reply but the case is that it would not be possible because it will affect other important threads that although it is considered mega threads, it still contributes to the forum.
If we were a new community and struggled for topics to engage then It was logical. AFAIK we are an established forum with over 23M monthly traffic, we do not need to think about keeping a useless thread so that people can comment because we do not have enough topics. Sometimes threads like those are created/re-created by spammers so they could post their recycled posts using their alt accounts... Sooner or later you'll expect a thread here in Meta from them asking "why my posts are gone?" "why my post count is dropping?" and "why my thread was deleted?" again, it will compensate the posts they've lost...
I guess this is exactly why the mods are here (one of the many reasons). Mods are here to look after the health of the forum. Locking, deleting, moving, banning, helping with answers?

It's not affecting me since I don't visit those sections, but I know it irritates a lot of good members here. It does irritates a lot. Who like seeing same thing rephrased again and again?  I also do not visit the Bitcoin Discussion, Altcoin Discussion that much. I can not recall vising Economics too coz I really don't have much idea about Economics. Sometimes I see some stupid topics in the Serious discussion section too. It's just ridiculous. But yes, I understand that we have to live with all these. To me, Beginners & help section is a bit different after noticing some good posts recently. So, I activated my notification for this section. IMO it's not as bad as the others. There are few genuine newbies looking for answers in this section. |

If the post is moved, then not all reports are credited with a good report, and quite often if someone hasn't specified something along the lines of "Wrong section, doesn't belong in <section>" then a moderator may think you are reporting it for being in the current section it's been moved too and thus mark it as a bad report.
So in other words, reporting without a valid comment (on the report section) will always ends up as a bad report? AFAIK hilariousandco has stated a few times he has very little contact with theymos,...
I can confirm that, I have seen it few days ago in a post he/she mentioned. |

If I put an image in a post in this thread, then I can get a list of the IPs of the people who have viewed the thread. Cross refer a few threads, and I can probably isolate your individual IP.
Try it and see how many IPs you get...What I understand from this is, It's not gonna work. So seems like we are safe.
Update: Ok seems like I have missed this from shahzadafzal. Actually Theymos is pointing out that it's not possible anymore. bitcointalk is using image proxy which prevents any request being forwarded to the source directly from client's browser. If you haven't notice all [img] tages are replaced like, so you will not get IP Address of the user but all requests will be coming from bitcointalk's image proxy server. https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u={url}
I seriously think, bitcointalk should enable Image caching on proxy server, currently it looks like caching is not enabled or used that's why we don't see any image for few [5+] seconds. |

You've previously posted in the Serious Discussion section, and any posts in that section, and it's child boards don't contribute towards post count. Other than that the thread is almost certainly being trashed. Your post count isn't being miscalculated.

Nice job to catch all these merit abusers. I'd like to see guilty ones tagged and "their lives ruined" (local meme ) So many cases of merits traders tags and yet they still shamelessly send 20-50 merits to alt accounts or buyer. God knows how many of those abusers are waiting for a right time to exchange merits when nobody looking. Appreciate the feedback. I will be adding more soon. |

Even, with heavier restrictions I still think they would exist, and not be such a burden to the general forum user.
