2583  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: KNC's "Plan B" on: February 10, 2014, 08:13:23 PM
IMHO KNC did a BIG MISTAKE by canceling the production of Jupiter (0.5 TH/s) and Saturn when the DEMAND was HIGHER !
They missed HUGE sales this winter. They allowed to Ant Miner S1 (180 Gh/s) to be sold in the detriment of the better KNC Saturn (200+ GH/s) ... And you must agree with me, Jupiter was the ASIC miner of the 2013.
And is still now, because NOBODY delivered anything yet !
Selling Jupiters again, this can be a successful plan B !

IMO this Neptune is a pure gamble:  with his fancy 20nm technology, when nobody on the market demanded it , and his delivery in Q1/Q2...

Maybe they figured, to be relevant 6 months down the road, they needed to design something bigger and more power efficient.  Who knows, maybe they don't have the capacity to do Neptune and Jupiters at the same time.
2584  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much can I mine with 1Gh ? on: February 10, 2014, 06:55:37 PM
About 16.3 cents a day (USD) with 1 GHs, and dropping by about 20% now every 12 days or so.

+1

Just plug the above numbers into spreadsheet and you'll have your answer.  With 20% diff increases, about BTC10 in one year (and few cents after that), BTC6.5 with 30%

if diff stay the same $0.16 x 365 days = 52 fucking US dollars!!!!!

this is funniest shit I ever read!
and you are hero member with almost 600 posts! OMG!!!
Read the post.  it is not $, but FUCKING BTC in the first and third column.

0.16 BTC/day RIGHT NOW, 0.13 BTC/day two weeks from now and so forth...

My mistake, I read the OP as 1TH.  So divide by 1000, if you like.
2585  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: MtGox blames Bitcoin protocol problem for BTC withdrawal issue on: February 10, 2014, 05:19:08 PM

If MtGox fails because of bitcoin technical reasons, well, bitcoin gets bad press.

I think in this case, MtGox got bad press in more ways than one.  Bitcoin is fine.

They tried to blame bitcoin, didn't work.  Move along.
2586  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: MtGox blames Bitcoin protocol problem for BTC withdrawal issue on: February 10, 2014, 04:45:33 PM

b) check the blockchain to see if the tx exists by looking up the unique set of inputs and outputs which make the tx.

Even better.  Someone should send them the above line.
2587  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: MtGox blames Bitcoin protocol problem for BTC withdrawal issue on: February 10, 2014, 04:36:08 PM
Solution: do not re-use addresses. Send all change to another address, and track spends on the blockchain using the sending address...  No chance of duplicated tracking data (the sending address basically becomes your tx hash).  voila. No problem here other then MtGox incompetance.  Demanding a change to the core protocol is ridiculous.
You mean spam the solution is to spam the blockchain with transactions to credit the one-time addresses used only for tracking purposes?

That's okay if you're Joe's Backwater Exchange with 2 withdrawals a day, but if major exchanges all do that it'll just bloat the blockchain, and it's already bloating fast enough, thank you.

Just improve the damn protocol.

Just improve the damn application.
2588  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is GPU mining even worth an investment? on: February 10, 2014, 04:29:01 PM
I am trying to build a dedicated mining rig with a budget of roughly 10K.

Should I buy a bunch of GPUs run the hell out of them, and them sell them when the ASICs chips come out?

I hear a lot about how GPU mining is not worth the investment, but if you are new and want to front run the ASICs cards. And then use profits to purchase to upgrade is this a feasible solution?

It was never a good investment.  Treat it as a hobby.  BTW, people spend more on their hobbies than 10K so you are in the ball park.

Buy one rig, spend $2000, see how it goes.  If it is not for you, sell the cards, use the computer for something else.

Store the original transaction id, and (amount, timestamp, dest address).  Assign "in" and "out" bitcoin addresses to each account.

All withdrawals will come from "out" address to "dest" (end user, private) address.  If someone changes the original transaction id, no problem.
Use the "out" address, timestamp and amount to find the changed transaction id and validate the transaction.
Store the modified transaction id along with the original transaction id.

If someone comes along and claims that they did not receive funds, check the list of transactions, if more than one, flag the user.

I think what happened was that their system was looking for the original transaction id in the block chain, and if not found their system was
automatically initiating another transaction
to the same dest address.  I say their system did not handle this "not found" error properly.

Claiming that the protocol needs to be changed is a bit extreme.  I hear this all the time from "not so hot" developers.
"The problem is not in my code.  It is not me, it is xxx/so and so.  Excuse after excuse.  My code is perfect, if you want to work with my module, change your interface, blah, blah"

They want bitcoin to change the protocol so that their system works.  Well, they should change their system so that it works with bitcoin network, not the other way around.

I think Mt.Gox should close the doors after this.  They would save their face, if they came out and said "yes, we've had a bug in our code.  We'll fix this in two days."
That would give them some credibility.  Now, they look like "not so hot" developers.

If they cannot handle errors in their system, I wonder how stable their trading platform is?

2591  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Soon only sharks will mine ... on: February 10, 2014, 03:23:58 AM

The only good way to start mining is invest 10.000$ - 15.000$ minimum.

The amount you invest should not matter.  If investing $2000 is not a good investment, how is investing $10,000 make that investment any better?
The risk is the same, regardless how much you invest.

IN your eyes, with the exception of just buying BTC, what is a good investment otherwise?  I could have sworn that I read somewhere that the typical ROI is considered good if it can exceed 20% per annum.

Gold is near production costs, but it is not an investment.  More like a storage of value.
Look at utilities stocks, some can pay 5%.  Private mortgages can pay 5-7%, depending on the risk.

Mining hardware is not a good investment for two reasons (among others):

1. Extremely fast depreciation in assets and profit
2. Market is filled with uninformed participants who bid up h/w prices to astronomical levels

Buying hardware today is like buying tech stocks first week of March 2000.

Buying BTC directly is risky, but it is probably less risky then buying mining hardware.  You are buying a limited resource that (hopefully) will not depreciate 20-30% every two weeks.
Versus buying mining hardware that is virtually unlimited resource that depreciates 20%+ every two weeks.

EDIT: ask HF BabyJet customers how they feel about spending 50-60 BTCs for each HF box.

3. Russia Bans Bitcoin

1. Non event.  Apple will be out of business in 3 years.
2. Most of it was unloaded on the way down to about 700
3. Can  have a negative impact long-term, especially if other countries follow the ban.  I would not trust anything king Putin says.  Maybe we are looking at a prelude to US-Russia crypto war.
2595  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Import Antminer form China on: February 10, 2014, 12:25:01 AM
I ask because in Poland has blocked imports Antminer.

With a recent Russian ban on bitcoin, I wonder if former, soviet satellite states will follow the suit.

Quite possible that all mining hardware will be classified as "hacking devices" and made illegal.
2596  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: We're All Criminals According to MSI on: February 10, 2014, 12:19:15 AM
Apparently MSI thinks we're all criminals. Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining is "illegal" according to their forums.

I go there asking for assistance on fan replacement and aftermarket cooling solutions that current MSI gpu users are using and get blacklisted for mentioning "mining".

"Bit mining is a very questionable activity. Who knows where the money comes from, much less what the data or the cryptography is actually used for. It is well known for hiding money for both corrupt and  terroristic purposes. "

Lol.

What?

why stay away?

Because you'll not make ~BTC3 by mining using any of these machines.

Buy BTC3 today.  You'll still have them 12 months from now.

If you buy these machines, 12 months from now you'll have junk box and maybe BTC1.9

Here are the numbers, assuming 30% jumps in difficulty every two weeks.  First column - earnings per day, second column - cum. earnings in two weeks

Dear HashFast. I know it is much to ask and that Batch 1 customers are wholly undeserving of your attention. But how about that MPP... You know miner protection and all that jazz?

  • Total BTC generated during 90 day period: 0.382

Best, your most grateful customer.

How this MPP supposed to work?  The more hashing you provide to customers the more MPP is needed, the more hashing power is required to meet MPP, the more MPP is needed.
Total BS.  Would never work.

The key to HashFast products is to sell them fast.
2599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Windows mining rig -> access via Teamviewer? on: February 09, 2014, 02:45:50 PM
Of course.  But, if your OS/MOBO is hung, only power cycle works.

You'll need another watchdog computer (rpi) to drive relays that would power cycle your rig.

With Teamviewer you can restart your rig if it is alive.
