It absolutely will not be feasible in 2025. I honestly think we are a couple hundred years away from being able to solve some of the major challenges. There is so much that would need to be done to make anywhere else habitable. We simplify the basic needs of humans such that the plethora of supporting factors to those needs aren't accounted for. The life support features that came about on earth happened over hundreds of millions of years. We can accelerate that process with technology, but at major expense and still requiring a massive time frame. Transportation of essentials is a hurdle, radiation exposure is a larger hurdle, temperature is a problem, the magnetic field that provides the earth protection from solar flares and major impact from asteroids is lacking on mars, the list goes on.

With an infinite budget I do not think it would be possible to survive on mars right now or within any nearby time frame.

That's not even considering the issue of peroxides in the Martian soil, which seem to be a show stopper.

But they ignore all this and push forward with their agenda.

You would think at this point, these 'investigations' would be illegal. Sure you can investigate someone when there is suspicion of a crime but when does it become harrasment?

A decision approved in parliament cannot be illegal.
In terms of abuse, it is a very stretchable category.
What about illegal immigrants on the border with Mexico?
Or with civilians in the Yemeni war?
The president of America is the most powerful man in the world, so it's too daunting to say he was abused.
Let the legal process come to an end and determine the truth.

I am of the opinion that the stuff Trump has been putting up with long ago degenerated into simple harassment.

I really don't consider hydrocarbon resources as being a particularly 'harmful way of receiving energy.'

I know many people that don't consider stealing money from "capitalists" (in fact, just more wealth people, not just Google or banks) or just from other peoples. It doesn't mean that this is good.

The same with you. You don't consider, but in fact, it is harmful. Did you ever live near themral power plant? I doubt. But i lived.
Also, this is not only thermal PP closing (in future) but electrival cars, trains and many others.

The only real problem I see is the risk of contamination from well blowouts and tanker wrecks.

And CO2 and CO and many other shitty things.

will make bank by bilking people via their 'green energy'

Solar stations, wind power plants, hydro power plants, tidal power stations, geothermal and biogas is really useful and cool things. With just one cons: They very depends on external factors (except hydro and geothermal) like location, weather and others. Without powerul accumulators it's hard to use them. Some of them have the same Efficiency ratio as thermal power stations (hydro, tidal, geothermal and some solar)

For example i have my own power station, and feeling really free. 7.5 kW (peak) from solar panels and 1.5 kW (peak) from hand made wind generator.

As i see, you're american. So i can understand your way of thinking. Many americans uses to ride on 6V car engines and other such things.

...

We have issues in this country that Congress can try to fix -- but we'll never get to any of that when the President is being investigated for 15 other things by all of the committess in Congress that are supposed to be working for the nation instead of working for their party above everything.

My opinion is that the Democrats are currently destroying their party.

If they believe they are "working for their party" that's foolish and naive.

International, outside influences are definitely at work in this.

Some of these include but are not limited to
1. The President being immensely powerful, being able to do whatever he wants with his pen and his phone.
2. Congress continuously failing to limit the deficit. Both parties yell about it when they don't hold the Presidency (or Congress) but when they actually take control they don't care enough to actually ensure the country is saved for long periods of time.
3. Congress fails to do much of anything.

1. Really? How about that measly 5B for the wall?
2. This is 100% the voters' fault.
3. A feature, not a bug.
2587  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Finansing NASA with military budget on: September 26, 2019, 12:49:08 PM
It would be really a nice thing to do if the purpose is reasonable.

If NASA wants to go back to moon just to prove that indeed it is capable, or just send crafts to different planets of the solar system or build a gigantic telescope to look far beyond the observable universe, I would say, no, the budget shouldn't be increased.
Because even if all these stuffs are important for progress, they are not in the immediate need for humanity as much as it needs defense and stuffs.

But, if the purpose is greater good, like to try to search for a planet where future human beings can stay safe and live, or to find hidden elements in the universe for the use of them in curing incurable diseases, or to build a colony in space or Mars/moon to grow agriculture under an artificial atmosphere, then I would surely agree to switch the budgets.
Because the future of humanity is more important than shitty wars and "strongest country" ego Cheesy

There's virtually no part of the Moon and Mars exploration goals that is not consistent with furthering colonization of the near-habitable locations of the solar system. But that may not be obvious. For example it may do more good to send 100 robot explorers than one manned crew, because the robot explorers would get data to enable to manned crew to know where to go.

So if in my opinion the memo looks fine, let me ask this. How would someone like Trump ask ANYTHING of another president, such that it could not be accused that he was asking for help in "investigating a political rival?" The only way I can see is for him to stay quiet.

To answer your question, he could have said ANYTHING other than "Can you please investigate Biden?" Basically it was extremely tacky to bring up Biden during what was supposed to be a congratulatory phone call and ask for help. Of course Trump being Trump said the phone call was "perfect."  Roll Eyes

There is no give-me-this and i'll-give-you-that in that conversation. There are no threats or anything that could be construed that way...

I realize that, and legally speaking you are correct. Which is why Trump's handlers cleared him to release the memo. However, when Bill Lumberg asks you to come in and work on the weekend, you do it if you know what's good for you.

"Yeah if you could just go ahead and investigate my political rival for me, that would be just great."

Lumberg isn't making any demands, nor is he making any promises. He's just implying that something needs to be done. And if you know what's good for you, you'll do it. Of course the relationship between the two parties isn't boss/employee, but the inference being made is relatively the same. Nothing illegal going on, but it is tacky as fuck.
....
I agree with your point of view here (with one exception to follow), but that is why I phrased my question the way I did. Because the only thing that would have satisfied media-spin crazed Democrats would be for him to have not mentioned it at all.

But there is one more issue, which is that in that same breathe Trump said that he understood that the prosecutor who was fired was a good man, and that perhaps he was fired unfairly. I'm unable to exclude this from the analysis, and I agree with it. If the guy was fired because of pressure from the US former administration related to the VP's son's affairs, I would like to see him reinstated with full back pay.

This has been overlooked in the discussion, and yet the prosecutor does seem to be an innocent victim in these power plays.

Then again the situation may have been more complex than that and we don't have the whole story. For example  Biden may have been confronted with a coercive demand and responded with a bigger coercive demand.

A bit of research quickly shows that the first "personal computer" was the Apollo Guidance Computer.

There is a simulator on the web.

The source code is on Github.

it was sarcasm, my friend. It's funny to see how some people can't understand how it's possible to do such important and epic things without iphones  Grin

Well, that's their problem. Complex operating systems and GUIs usually just get in the way of getting a job done.

Space navigation is celestial mechanics formulas and data points ran through a program, a lot of the old Fortran code is still being used.

A lot is ADA too.
I will have to look into that. Don't know about it. ADA efforts seem to have came in roughly mid 1980s.
2590  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Finansing NASA with military budget on: September 25, 2019, 05:34:43 PM
Lets be real for a second. When the US was spending large amounts of money on the space race, it was a highly popular thing to do. We were in a 'war' against the soviets and this was a RACE to who could win first.

You had public support, congressional support, military support, and so on and so forth.

People love space and all, but it's just not as popular as it used to be. And to waste 4 percent of the budget on it again at a time where no one sees the reason for that, is wasteful and unnecessary.

IIRC the current request is to expand the NASA budget to 0.87% to fund the return to the moon.

So is that something like a double of NASA current budget to put it around 44b?

I don't really see this sort of need, but then again -- I'm not a science buff in the least, so this sort of thing doesn't truly concern me. Nor do I think it concerns many Americans.

The planned missions are the Lunar Gateway, a series of robotic lunar missions, including to the suspected ice deposits at the South Pole, the new deep space manned capsule, the manned space launch system to replace the Shuttle, and a manned mission to the Moon.

Lots of stuff there. Basically the idea is to mine oxygen and hydrogen on the lunar surface, take it to the orbiting Gateway, there it can be bought by other craft,  manned or robotic headed outwards. That would scale down the weight of launch from Earth and make it cheaper.

First step toward using materials mined on the moon instead of bringing everything up from Earth.

This is supposed to be the transcript.. Or, "MEMORANDUM OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATION"..
https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Unclassified09.2019.pdf

I dunno. Sounds pretty bad. Sounds like Trump is using his position of the presidency to ask another president to investigate his political rival. I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said:

Quote
The notes between the call between the president of the United States and the president of Ukraine as well as the legal opinion drafted by the Department of Justice in an effort to prevent the whistleblower complaint from coming to our committee. And I have to say that I'm shocked by both. The notes of the call reflect a conversation far more damning than I or many others had imagined. It is shocking at another level that the White House would release these notes and felt that somehow this would help the President's case or cause. Because what those notes reflect is a classic mafia-like shakedown of a foreign leader.

But as we all know, even when Trump loses, he wins. I don't think its enough to proceed with the impeachment, or if they do, he will probably be acquitted.

I read the memo and it looks pretty straight honest business talk, several subjects, yes one is the Biden/prosecutor matter.

So if in my opinion the memo looks fine, let me ask this. How would someone like Trump ask ANYTHING of another president, such that it could not be accused that he was asking for help in "investigating a political rival?" The only way I can see is for him to stay quiet.

Another sect, same as believers in little green men or reptilians from Nibiru with space station on the backside of Moon. I'm talking about climate change deniers. Children of Flat Earth sect  Smiley

In other hand, proposes from climate change activists is stupid too. Trying to stop fossil fuel use is of course right step, but in another hand, why should we reject nuclear energy? The most pure and powerful source of energy.

Because the same people that point fingers and slam the name "Climate Change Denier" at anyone who disagrees with their point of view SAY SO.

Ok, don't throw me into the same basket for the believers of conspiracy theories.

I believe Earth is NOT flat. I don't believe there are aliens in Area 51.

But this question is factually not very convincing and it is, did we actually land on moon in 1969.

There are many compelling evidences, facts etc that proves that indeed we landed on moon.

But even in 21st century where there an accident with Kalpana Chawla who merely went to space and came back, it sounds too good to be true that in 1969, we landed on the moon which is around 300000 kms or 186000 miles from the Earth with those time of technologies and successfully came back. Remember, the first apple computer was launched in 1976.

I'm not saying we didn't, I'm just saying that it's not really a question that can be debunked like other theories which says Earth is flat.

This is great proof that Western civilization is rots.

"We can't land on the Moon, because first apple computer was launched in 1976" - perfect statement. Really, with no jokes.

2597  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Global Warming Real? on: September 24, 2019, 05:49:45 PM
Some people believe that global warming is just the conspiracy to control the development of industrial country. Sometime, I think so. What about you?

Global warming is a real fact.
If you are old enough, you can realize that in the past the climate was different than the one that there is right now. I remember that in my country we didn't have so much heat and now we nearly reach 40 celsius during summer.
Then again, perhaps you live where climate is affected by one of the numbers 60-80 year climate cycles, such as the Pacific Decadal Oscillation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_decadal_oscillation
The Pacific Decadal Oscillation index is the leading empirical orthogonal function (EOF) of monthly sea surface temperature anomalies (SST-A) over the North Pacific (poleward of 20°N) after the global average sea surface temperature has been removed. This PDO index is the standardized principal component time series.[2] A PDO 'signal' has been reconstructed as far back as 1661 through tree-ring chronologies in the Baja California area.[3]

By it's nature, that cycle was at a low point around 1960-1980 and is now at a high.

If the temperature increase you speak of is real, and if you live in an area affected by these cycles, then there is a very important question to ask.

Why did they tell me it was "global warming?" Why did they not tell me it was a natural climate cycle that was well documented?

CLIMATE CHANGE RELIGION: Seminary Students Offer Confessions To Plants In Ritual

Seminary defends confessing sins to plants: ‘Beautiful, moving ritual’

Students at a seminary in New York City recently confessed their sins to plants during a chapel service, an experience that drew nationwide ridicule but that a campus spokesman defended as a “beautiful, moving ritual” in a statement to The College Fix.

On Tuesday, Union Theological Seminary in Manhattan shared on its Twitter account a photo of a group of students speaking to an arrangement of house plants. “Today in chapel, we confessed to plants. Together, we held our grief, joy, regret, hope, guilt and sorrow in prayer; offering them to the beings who sustain us but whose gift we too often fail to honor…

According to its website, Union Theological Seminary was founded in 1836 by nine Presbyterian ministers, who were seeking a “new vision for theological education.” Long known as a center of progressive Christian theology, it has graduated and hosted liberal thinkers from Harry Fosdick to Cornel West. Elsewhere on its website it states that “the fragility of our planet” is one of “the most profoundly challenging issues of our contemporary experience.”

The best way to show the respect you have for Nature is to:

1) buy some pot planters from Home Depot
2) get the plants out of their natural habitat
3) force them to listen to your sins
4) watch them slowly die in a big blue plastic bin on the sidewalk once you are done asking them for forgiveness.

Doomsday through climate change is not going to happen.

Unless ...

Unless it is the result of a major asteroid impacting Earth.

I now believe that world-wide 'doomsday' IS possible with certain geo-engineering schemes.  Possibly by screwing around with 'solar radiation management' could do it....

Attempting to lower total solar input would be redefining stupid, and could tilt things toward the next ice age.

Doomsday through climate change is not going to happen.

Unless ...

Unless it is the result of a major asteroid impacting Earth.
'Doomsday', or at least some very serious and high-mortality climate events, on a more regional level, are quite within the realm of possibility.  ...

That has been the case for a long time...

Rocks from space are the biggie, though.  Because they are a certainty, although the risk per day or year is statistically somewhat low.
