261  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin RPC API - other address type support on: October 18, 2021, 06:49:30 PM
You can do anything via a RPC command as you could via the GUI. So if you wanted to send a transaction to a P2PKH address for example, you can use a RPC command to do this.
262  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Here goes the airline industry! Boeing to force 125,000 ... or they’re FIRED on: October 18, 2021, 06:45:37 PM

Soon the US will be without a military or pilots to fly airplanes or truck drivers to drive big wheelers.

Really, like literally everyone will refuse the vaccine? Rhetorical question, don't bother with another pretzel.

You don’t need this to be a universal issue for this to be a problem. A small percentage of employees could choose to get fired to make this a very serious issue in regards to national security and the ability for the US economy to keep moving.

Got it. So it's not "soon", not "will be", and not "without", but rather "small percentage", "could choose", and it could be "a problem" or "a very serious issue"... "in regards" LOL. Professional backpedaling world champion.

Love the new talking point, national security. Sending kids to die in godforsaken shitholes did not make the military disappear but a small needle will.
I am saying it would only take a small percentage of employees to get fired for not getting vaccinated in order for major supply chain and national security issues to pop up. For example, half of Chicago's police department is at risk of getting fired, and time off requests are getting cancelled as a result, but the CPD's ability to police its city will be negatively affected if only a small percentage of these offices ultimately gets fired. We are in the middle of a labor shortage, it is not exactly a good time to be firing people left and right.
263  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 18, 2021, 06:41:23 PM
Over the short run, it is the campaign managers responsibility to prevent lots of crap posts coming from the campaign. However, if over long periods of time, if a manager allows lots of shit posts, and doesn’t do anything about it, it will reflect negatively on the person who didn’t fire the campaign manager in favor of someone who would address the shit posts.
The manager can only do so much given the pay rate. Rejecting all bad posters would result in an almost empty campaign, and probably replacement of the manager.
That might be true, but that does not excuse the manager. If the pay rate is too low, he should say something. I do think that Lightlord probably knows what kind of people his low rates are going to attract.

We are already in a labor shortage due to the Biden inflation and the Biden incentives to not work. The Vaccine mandate will only make these worse.
265  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: True Random for automatic offline address generator on: October 18, 2021, 02:13:23 AM
The title of this thread touches on some important topics of cryptography.

1) What do you mean by true randomness? Don't we already have true random generators? Do you mean that our supposedly random numbers are chosen predictably?
2) Why is your way more random than ours?
There is no such thing as being “more random”. An outcome is either random or it isn’t.

It is not possible to observe if an outcome is actually random or not based on observation.

In the past (in bitcoins early days) there were wallet software that (intentionally) created private keys with flawed RNG, using a small scope of private keys. Someone looking at many private keys generated this way would not have detected the flawed RNG without looking at the underlying code.

In the case of the OPs proposal, it is possible to determine the radio raves being used to influence the generated private key. This means the OPs method is flawed.

If additional random input is used in addition to the FM input, the entropy will be reduced from what it would otherwise be.
266  Economy / Reputation / Re: Do you think Lightlord behavior is acceptable? on: October 17, 2021, 09:55:11 PM
Why? The feedback lightlord left doesn't look terrible and certainly not abusive.
Because people are not being excluded from DT just because of their abusive feedback, but it's my personal opinion and I see that other members excluded him also.

Lightlord has nothing to do with the spam, that's 100% on the manager and participants. That's why there is a manager, although everyone has a different idea of what is considered spam. Best thing users can do is report posts and hurt spammers by getting them banned. As far as the trust list goes, I really see nothing wrong there, just because a forum mod doesn't trust his is not a reason to halt a campaign. Long as he pays regularly and on time he's fine. Just goes back to respecting people.
He is indirectly connected with spam, because he hired the manager and he made those low payment rates, so much that seeing these avatars and signature you mostly expect to see some low quality posts.
Last time I checked those campaigns are not active anymore but I don't really care what happens with them if they are operated in similar way like before, with or without l-lord.
Note that I have many ignored members even from much higher paying campaigns, so it's not a universal rule.

267  Economy / Economics / Re: What do people think about CBDC? on: October 17, 2021, 02:16:09 PM
Perhaps we should first find out how effective the China cbdc so far since it was launched then you can draw up some ideas what will happen in other countries if cbdc is introduced,
To me it will same as any other government owned project which is heavily centralise and control the people, however,  if people are given the option to choose between cbdc and other crypto, many people won't bother about cbdc.

it's not up for the people to chose but the government. if the government of the country will have their cbdc, the people in this country will use cbdc obviously. you can only wish they allow crypto as well.

china will have the advantage to dominate in the future because they are the first to have a working cbdc
This is wrong, see my above post. Adopting a CBDC will prevent commercial banks from being able to lend, which will prevent companies and individuals from being able to borrow money, which will grind their economy to a halt.

I would love to see China try to implement a CBDC, as it will delay or even prevent them from being able to take over the world. China wants to issue a CBDC in order to impose further control over their citizens, but I believe this will backfire spectacularly.

Stable coins currently have a certain level of risk, (as do bank accounts with commercial banks), and this is not the case with accounts with the central bank.

There's nothing about a CBDC that stops lending based in the CBDC.  It doesn't even prevent fractional-reserve banking.  If anything, it would give the government a lot more information about the level of money supply expansion in real time as the all the data would be available as it happens.  The information would help inform monetary policy.
A CBDC means that citizens would have no reason to store any money in their bank account. A CBDC would allow citizens to do everything their bank account does via the CBDC. Banks would still have the ability to engage in fractional reserve banking, but as citizens withdraw their money in favor of the CBDC, banks would be unable to lend out money, as they would have no money to lend.

When a bank lends out money, they have to have actual money to lend. With fractional reserve banking, the bank assumes deposit holders will keep some of their deposit with the bank until the loan is repaid. Also, borrowers often deposit their loan proceeds with the bank giving the loan (or it will at least stay in the banking system). If deposit holders withdraw all their money, the bank wont have any money to lend.

Without a CBDC, the only way to remove money from the banking system is to withdraw cash from your bank account. If you have hundreds of thousands of dollars, or millions of dollars (or more), this is not really feasible, as protecting these amounts of money is difficult/costly.
268  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are “first bits” still frowned upon ? on: October 17, 2021, 01:54:48 PM
Thanks guys! As you guys know (at least Dave and Quick) I’m a physical coin enthusiast so referring to those mainly, though I wanted to educate myself about them, pros/cons.

So this begs the question, is there an inevitable problem coming soon for all coins with holos using first bits, like Casascius coins?  I’ve never had an issue verifying funds on wallet explorer myself, nor has anyone ever mentioned having issues on the collectibles board that I know of. I guess perhaps this would be a good topic to post about.

(Quick haven’t seen you around in a bit, hope you’re well)
If you have a physical coin with its first bits displayed, you are having to trust the manufacturer somewhat to do things such as to not retain private keys generated. If you have a funded coin that was funded prior to purchase (ie, the coin was funded by the manufacturer), you can review the blockchain, and reasonably be certain that you have found the entire address. Similarly, if you have an unfunded physical coin with its first bits displayed, if you are given a list of addresses, one of which matches the first bits displayed, you can be reasonably certain you know the full address, at least to the extent you are willing to trust the manufacturer.

It would be possible for a physical coin manufacturer to fund a coin to address 1CSn5SKix..., but have the private key behind the hologram to be associated with 1CSn5SKiz..., but IMO this is unlikely from a game theory perspective, as if the manufacturer did this, it would be easily verifiable by all their customers if they did this once and were caught because the victim should share photos of the coin with the hologram pealed that contains the private key for an unfunded address. A manufacturer whose intent is to scam their customers could simply retain private keys they generate, and there would at least be some ambiguity if the bitcoin is stolen from you.

If all you have is the first bits, and no signed statement from the manufacturer, and the coin is not funded, you should not attempt to fund the coin. There are many potential addresses the private key is associated with, only one of which is correct.

Weird. I haven't heard anything about Boeing forcing their employees "to be injected with deadly spike protein cocktail".
It sounds quite alarming, if true.
Are you sure you're not confusing this with them making employees take the safe and effective Covid vaccine?

Government contractors are being forced to have all their employees vaccinated.

nope.. again idiot overuse of the word FORCED
actual policy if vaccinated or regular test.

Not for government contractors. Government contractors need their employees to be vaccinated. Private employers with over 100 employees need to either mandate vaccinations or implement weekly testing.

It is advantageous for most people to get vaccinated, but this is not the right way to do it. Biden is compromising national security.

There are many places in the US that will be without essential services such as ambulance service and hospital service because so many people are being fired for refusing to give up personal medical records. Soon the US will be without a military or pilots to fly airplanes or truck drivers to drive big wheelers.

272  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Looking for a scriptable tool to send transactions for many altcoins on: October 17, 2021, 02:59:03 AM
Based on your constraints, you are not going to be able to check balances of addresses of the various currencies.

In order to send a transaction to any address for any cryptocurrency, you will need to know the specific UTXO you are spending. If you have this information, it should not be difficult to create a transaction.
273  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are “first bits” still frowned upon ? on: October 17, 2021, 02:54:20 AM
If you are talking about the first bits of an address that has never been used, there is no way of knowing for sure what the full address is. If you have the private key, you can calculate the entire address.

Bitcoin addresses have a checksum to confirm it is valid. It is possible that if you are missing only a small number of characters, there is only one valid address, but most of the time, if you don’t have the entire address, you might not have the correct address.

If you know for sure the address has previously received a transaction, the above changes (most of the time) because the set of potential addresses goes way down.
274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After a few months of China crackdown on mining. Check it out! on: October 17, 2021, 02:24:43 AM
You can review the methodology the CBECI uses. This is not from the mining pools themselves, but is from an entity associated with Cambridge business school, which I think is reputable enough to believe they are not simply making up data. They have been publishing this data for over a year now, and I think if pools were not actually providing this information to CBECI, they would have said something by now.
It is not as if data fabrication is uncommon in academia. In fact they were caught a couple of times and had to pull the articles Wink
Besides there are about 20 different mining pools located in many different countries, it is near impossible to work with all of them in secret to get data that has never been available to public. I don't know about you but I only accept information that I can verify myself.
The project references in the OP is not collecting any data in secret. It has named the mining pools they are receiving data from, and has used data validation techniques to confirm information is correct. It then makes the assumption that the data from the select pools are representative of the population of miners.

I would be surprised if any of the pools individually have data that is substantially different than the others. If you have a specific reason to doubt the information, I would encourage you to speak up, but I don’t think it is reasonable to make the assumption it is wrong.

BrainBoss posted using the same address but later on changed it.

Points to note
* That address of Queenvera was never used elsewhere so Brainboss posting that address
* QueenVera didn't apply to BrainBoss's any campaign at the time
QueenVera first posted the address 19xMwMtNEv5iaEpxSjA85uHuB9iKoUVDKu on April 6, 2020. CryptopreneurBrainboss later (accidentally) posted the same address about two weeks later on April 19, 2020.

The address 19xMwMtNEv5iaEpxSjA85uHuB9iKoUVDKu was obviously in CryptopreneurBrainboss' clipboard when he made that post, but it is very well possible for whatever reason he was looking into that address based on Queenvera's or someone else's post.

I don't know either one of them. It is possible they are the same person, but the above does not prove they are the same. IMO this is really not even circumstantial evidence.

What is going on with this transaction?

You have still not answered my original question:
Why do you think he is the same person as The-Devil?

Even if CryptopreneurBrainboss is Queenvera, you have not articulated what he did wrong.

277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After a few months of China crackdown on mining. Check it out! on: October 15, 2021, 06:40:55 PM
The underlying data is from the originating IP address of the miners connecting to the pools, not the pools themselves.
Correct but I haven't seen mining pools that reveal their miners' IP addresses. That would be a violation of their privacy and more importantly security. I also haven't seen any mining pool releasing general stats about their miners' locations, etc. I would love to see them if they exist and anyone can provide a link (from mining pool website itself not third parties).
You can review the methodology the CBECI uses. This is not from the mining pools themselves, but is from an entity associated with Cambridge business school, which I think is reputable enough to believe they are not simply making up data. 278  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum have insurance against fraud?? on: October 15, 2021, 06:32:12 PM
Several users are focusing on the non-custodial feature of Electrum:
[...]
That characteristic of Electrum doesn't matter in this particular case. The coins were not stolen, OP wasn't hacked, Electrum didn't misplace or lose the coins due to any fault of their own.

This is the most important detail of OPs message:
the wallet i sent my money to has already transferred the money to somewhere else. Is there any way to file a claim for insurance against Electrum or get my bitcoin back?
Whether the money was sent from Electrum, a casino, a centralized exchange, hot or cold wallet doesn't change anything because he initiated the transaction.

I have a more important detail about the OP's message:
a company called funds-recovery.com has said that we can make a claim
I think most likely the OP is shilling for what is likely a scam site funds-recovery[dot]com. No reputable business is going to say that electrum is liable in this case. It might be understandable for a frustrated user to want to blame someone else for their mistake, but there isn't anyone running a business trying to recover funds from electrum as the OP describes.
279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: After a few months of China crackdown on mining. Check it out! on: October 15, 2021, 06:39:48 AM
I am not sure, but possibly if we know in the past few years, there are some pools in China that sum up to more than 51% of network hashrate, so a few smaller pools can contribute to bring it up to 75%. Obviously I know pools and ownership are different if we talk about origin of hashrate.
Exactly.
The underlying data is from the originating IP address of the miners connecting to the pools, not the pools themselves.

If someone connects to a pool with a Chinese IP address, they will show as being a miner from china. If someone from china uses a VPN located in the US to connect to their pool, they will show as being located in the US.
280  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: True Random for automatic offline address generator on: October 15, 2021, 06:36:45 AM

I suppose it depends on what attack vectors you're trying to protect against and how vulnerable you'd be if a successful attack were performed, however, the two concerns that immediately come to mind are:

1.  If the radio stops working for some reason, you'll possibly be fed a repeating sequence that represents pure silence on all frequencies?

2. An attacker that is aware of your algorithm could potentially transmit a strong enough signal from close enough to your equipment to effectively overpower any "noise", resulting in a predictable set of input data.

First of, thank you for the valid and pertinent answer.
I hadn't think of #1, but I can add a response validation algorithm, either at the MCU or computer checking for patterns or repeated bytes.
As for #2, it has to be potent enough, has to "guess" when the print key would be pressed, as that the only time the random bytes are actually used, and it has to be a FM jammer, as the attacker has also to "guess" which frequency is being listen to and if or not shifted. Thus a jammer would probably render a pattern, throwing an error with the fix applied to #1 and having to running it in continuum, people around would start to complaint of bad radio reception.
Your attacker could simply broadcast on all potential channels for an extended period of time. You could potentially counter this by personally listening to the channel to confirm there is no interference, however an attacker could counter this counter by learning which channel you are listening to, and when, and using this information to learn the input to your "randomness".

It is best to have your machine create a private key seed in a way that is not affected by any external variable. Any external variable you use is going to open up the potential that someone will observe when you generate your seed and can look for information generated around that time.
