261  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: what site you created your first wallet? on: May 22, 2016, 07:47:46 AM
If I remember correctly the first Bitcoin wallet I have ever used must be the Blockchain wallet. When I found out about Bitcoin I started reading about it more on this forum and on the official Bitcoin site and the Blockchain wallet was recommended for new users of Bitcoin due to its ease of use and friendly interface so I created my wallet there.
262  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: May 21, 2016, 03:43:05 PM
I think Manchester United will push very hard for a win today because the FA cup will be the only trophy they could win this season and probably the last chance for LVG to win anything with United as he may be replaced by another coach in the summer so with odds so high I think it will be a value bet to put your money on Manchester United ML. I am going to do a 2nd bet as well that is both teams to score because I think Crystal Palace has the chance to score at least 1 goal tonight.
263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How halving will affect big mining companies? on: May 21, 2016, 03:11:48 PM
These are cloud mining companies that are selling 'mining packages' to customers. There are already packages for alt coins like Ethereum and the companies can very easy adjust the prices in their favor so that they are always in profit. I am pretty sure they are mining for themselves while selling their hashing power to customers so they are double-dipping in a way and I think the halving won't have any negative effects for them. Only private solo or small-time miners will be affected the most and I think they will most likely go out of business.
264  Economy / Speculation / Re: Look Bitcoin is going Down? on: May 21, 2016, 02:57:30 PM
I don't understand why every time the price of Bitcoin falls down a bit people tend to panic and think it's going to crash to the ground. Come on guys this doom and gloom conversation is not healthy at all because the sky is not falling yet. Bitcoin's price is volatile and that is to be expected. There are ups and downs and certainly the halving hasn't started yet so any speculations right now are simply unfounded. This is clearly an attempt from alt coin supporters to discredit Bitcoin  Wink
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Ethereum ? on: May 21, 2016, 02:38:43 PM
What can I do with Ethereum? I don't do GPU mining nor am I trading alt coins on the exchanges and I haven't seen an online retailer that accepts Ethereum as a legitimate method of payment so why should I be excited about Ethereum and prefer it over Bitcoin which is a lot more useful and accepted at a lot more places and actually there are even ATM and debit cards for it. I mean come on we all know that Bitcoin is not going down anytime soon and all this speculation is just pure nonsense.
266  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is to storage private keys in the cloud? on: May 21, 2016, 02:19:42 PM
If someone hacks into your cloud storage account and is knowledgeable about Bitcoin they can notice your back-up of private keys on there and all they have to do is import the keys in their own wallet to gain access to your Bitcoins. But in general I think if you maintain proper security of your cloud storage account like using a very strong password and email address that is very hard to compromise whatever you are storing on there would be safe. I have stored login information for different websites on my cloud storage before and I have had no issues but of course anything could happen so be careful.
267  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is their any safe methods to gamble? on: May 19, 2016, 07:00:26 PM
Guys if there were really any safe methods to gamble all the gambling sites worldwide would have filed for bankruptcy already. Their business is built on people taking chances to earn money but the major factor in that endeavor is luck. There is no scientific method that will help you win money off casinos in a consistent manner. All the gambling sites employ professional statisticians and mathematicians who have figured out the house edge and what amount the customers could win long before you have even started playing there. Just play for fun and enjoy your bets  Wink
268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBM and Microsoft unroll The Hyperledger. on: May 19, 2016, 06:35:30 PM
Hyperledger is open-source and the code is donated for the most part to the Linux foundation which is not-for-profit by IBM. It's said in the article that it can be used as a free way of recording the exchange of assets like houses, cars, stocks and anything else on a public ledger that resembles the Bitcoin Blockchain. However the software will be hosted on cloud servers so I am not sure if people can download and run it on their own computers. The project sounds interesting though and I think some businesses needing such a solution could find value in using it.
269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: losing 50 bitcoins gambling on: May 19, 2016, 06:03:02 PM
We don't know for sure how big that gambler's bankroll is. 50 Bitcoins can be just a small fraction of his/her net worth like 5% or 10% or whatever it is. Why do you assume that user is insane just because a lot of money was wagered and lost? Rich people have more money to bet with thus the bet amounts will be much bigger than general population bets. For example all the famous sports stars are driving cars for thousands of dollars. Why don't they sell their expensive toys and donate the cash for charitable causes? Because they can do whatever they want with their cash that's why.
270  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin replaces the money? Could happen? on: May 19, 2016, 04:26:16 PM
But to exchange Bitcoin to fiat money at exchanges or ATM's you need to pay fees. Also I have compared Bitcoin debit cards to regular bank debit cards and if you regularly use your Bitcoin debit card to pay for things every day like groceries, gas, coffee etc. you will pay much more in fees than your bank debit card. And it's not true that bank cards have hidden fees you can see the fee structure because it's transparent for every bank just visit your bank website  Wink
271  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core on a broken computer??? on: May 19, 2016, 04:15:29 PM
What OS do you have on that old computer of yours? If it's a version of Windows and it's slowing down your system I recommend putting a Linux distro on there it will surely speed some things up. Also are you planning to run Bitcoin Core as a node or also as a fully functioning wallet as well? I don't recommend storing Bitcoins on a crash-prone computer as your wallet may get corrupted or something. You can get Bitcoin Core for Linux by the way.
272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Robin Hood - Steals from Bank and gives to fight ISIS through BTC! on: May 19, 2016, 03:56:35 PM
Quote
Rojava Plan, the beneficiaries of Fisher’s donation were not available for comment. According to its campaign page, the money will go towards “feeding the revolution” after much needed imports were cut off as a result of the conflict with ISIS.

The hacker who had stolen the funds from the bank donated the Bitcoins to a Kurdish region of Syria that borders a territory held by ISIS. He is not supporting ISIS but people who want to fund a revolution against ISIS. Anyway this can be considered ethical hacking but I don't condone his actions as the money he stole from the bank may have belonged to every day normal people. But the bank must cover everyone's losses so I think in the end it will be fine so I am kinda neutral on this one.
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is dead again. This time for sure. on: May 19, 2016, 03:26:15 PM
As long as the exchanges are trading Bitcoin and the market price hasn't plummet to the bottom Bitcoin is alive. People have tried to shake the price by releasing negative news and outright shilling for other alt coins but Bitcoin is still here and will be for a long time unless something disastrous happens like Satoshi selling the 1 million coins that will inevitably crash the market but that's highly unlikely. Long live Bitcoin  Wink
274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: Does it have a POSITIVE IMPACT on your life? on: May 19, 2016, 02:35:18 PM
Yes Bitcoin has a positive impact on my life. I have learned new interesting things about cryptography and earned some money in the process so Bitcoin has been like a hobby with added benefits to me. I think my time has been well spent all these years I have been involved with Bitcoin. I am not a trader nor a miner and there are no regrets only positive emotions.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will eth coin rescue btc coin from asic builders? on: May 19, 2016, 01:39:59 PM
I don't think Intel, AMD or Nvidia will publicly announce they are starting to buy massive amounts of alt coins so as to increase the market price of the coins and incite their customers to turn to CPU or GPU mining. One way of directly promoting alt coin mining would be to put labels on their graphics cards like "Certified for Ethereum mining" or "Tested for efficient Dogecoin mining" but I am not sure the manufacturers would like to put such labels on the boxes of their products as this may confuse most of their customers.
276  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are floppy disks safe to store wallets? on: May 19, 2016, 01:24:23 PM
I think floppy disks are a bad choice for storing Bitcoin wallets long-term. The magnetic material they are made of can degrade with time plus the data on them can become corrupted if the disks are exposed to magnetic interference. I think a laminated paper wallet will outlast a floppy disk easily. Sometimes simpler things are better  Wink
277  Economy / Economics / Re: Does the Price of Bitcoin Matter? on: May 18, 2016, 11:25:03 AM
The price of Bitcoin does matter a lot to the investors who use it as a store of value and to the speculators who play the trading game on the exchanges. For everyone else who only tries to use it as a digital currency it doesn't matter so much because at the end of the day it's just a sum of money that you have decided to pay instead of fiat. Of course if the price of Bitcoin is higher you will be able to buy more things with it but everyone should decide for themselves how they want to use Bitcoin.
278  Other / Archival / Re: Do you have paypal account even though you have bitcoin? on: May 18, 2016, 11:15:06 AM
I have had a PayPal account since I was of a legal age to have my own credit card and that is now 10+ years. I only use it in situations where Bitcoin is not accepted as a means of payment. I don't want to close my PayPal account as it still is helpful for online purchases. Bitcoin and PayPal can co-exist at least for me right now.
279  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When gambling makes you cry. on: May 18, 2016, 11:06:28 AM
If an activity brings you only negative emotions I think it's time to end that activity or replace it with a new interesting hobby for a while. Gambling is meant to be fun and you should not take it too seriously. If you can't stand losing and that makes you cry just take on another hobby like drone flying or model making etc. Just do whatever makes you happy.
280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS basically DESTROYED on: May 18, 2016, 10:51:59 AM
I wonder how many coins the Chinese miners are left with after they have paid their electricity bills at the end of the month and any expenses that go into maintaining and replacing bad hardware. I highly doubt it that the Chinese would like losing their business and their profits by initiating a 51% attack on the Bitcoin network.
