261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there anything non-illegal exclusive to bitcoin? on: March 19, 2016, 03:34:40 PM

It's true they may save a bit but probably not as much as you might think. How many merchants do you know that accept Bitcoin directly, I don't think I've ever come across one, they all use some third party processor like Bitpay and I doubt Bitpay offers its service for free.

Even 1% discount could be worthwile for regular purchases or one-time high value ones (ie gold bar). Afaik BitPay didn't charge any fees initially, but introduced some small fees quite recently, still much lower than cc/PayPal.

How do you get your BTC?
Unless you're a factory mine, you *buy* it before you can use it. Which means fees/premiums/your time. Way in excess of that 1% Sad

There are plenty of other ways to get BTC. You could sell stuff/provide services and take bitcoins, altcoin trading, investing, gambling etc. You could also find someone who is willing to sell at market price outside of exchanges.

Usual exchange fee for buying is around 0.2%, so much less than 1%. Fiat transfer fees are the issue, but are less significant if you trade larger amounts.

So you're saying that to get Mom interested in the 1% discount she could get in the 1% of the stores by using BTC, I should tell her to
1. sell something for BTC
2. trade altcoins (hard to understand where/how Mom got her altcoins, so I won't ask)
3. investing (just get some BTC by investing, Ma, I have no idea what that means but it's super easy)
4. gambling (Mom, just get BTC is by gambling, what can possibly go wrong?)
5. find someone selling off-exchange @ market (i.e. find a criminal or idiot)

Overlooking the fact that she'd need to have BTC for everything other than (1), and that the intrepid financiers engaging in (2) through (5) end up in the gutter, crying hot salty tears, and also assuming Mom is not batshit crazy... do you honestly think she'd do any of the above for 1% savings (not from the stores she normally shops, but some obscure merchant she never heard of, the one that accepts BTC)?

What's freedom going for, nowadays?
264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Remember back in 2013 there was a movie called "Life On Bitcoin"... on: March 19, 2016, 02:23:55 AM

What are you talking about? According to Rotten Tomatos, the Bitcoin couple, Austin M. Craig and Beccy Bingham can't breed.
Beccy Bingham is known for his work on Rubi (2011) and Life on Bitcoin (2014).
Austin M. Craig is known for his work on Orcs! (2011), The Letter from Pearl Harbor (2011) and Boy with Blue (2011).

265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Blockchain is good, Bitcoin is bad"..i'm tired to hear this on: March 18, 2016, 04:39:54 PM
We should create the slogan, Blockchain is good, but Bitcoin is better to counter these idiots advocating that Blockchain technology will be used, but Bitcoin will be left out. In essence they are saying, you

cannot enjoy a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, because it's a bad combination. They want people to believe peanut butter and fish spread is better. Most people will realize the difference, if we let them taste

the difference. How can you judge, if you have not tasted both sandwiches.  Huh

Maybe we should also say Without Bitcoin, Blockchain won't exist. Most of them forget about this fact.
Also, biggest blockchain is Bitcoin's blockchain.

Without V2, we wouldn't have all those nice com sats. But take my word for it, V2 was not a nice thing; people who paid for it & used it just weren't nice.

The odds of Chartbuddy coming back under RichyT are probably less than 10%.

So, if people here want Chartbuddy, they gotta make another Chartbuddy.  I personally have no skills in that direction, either.

Maybe chartbuddy in this thread is ded?    Cry Cry

I'm good with computers Smiley

anyone saying blockchain is good bitcoin is bad.. are basically categorized as "altcoiners"

That's how I see it also. I think a lot of institutions who only vaguely understand bitcoin have dreams of starting over with a coin under their control. Of course they are missing the point. The fact that they can't control bitcoin is why many of us are here in the first place.

1. Saying that banks, somehow, don't understand Bitcoin is ludicrous.

2. Blockchain is the technology Bitcoin is built on, just like von Braun's V2 rocket was built on liquid rocket propulsion. The V2 was, arguable, bad -- it killed many people who didn't want to die. The technology behind it, otoh, was perfectly fine -- we still use it to scoot around in space.

3. Banks don't dislike Bitcoin any more than I dislike the V2. The V2 is great, the people who used it, otoh, I have mixed feelings about.
Similarly, it would be ridiculous for banks to like bitcoin enthusiasts, taking into account the shit you say, e.g. that banks are ev0l, run by Saurian J00z & should die in a fire.
Frankly, I'm surprised by how tolerant society, as a whole, has been of your antics.

You're the "Hey, who's up for another 8ball, I'll drive!" guy.
No. It's 4am, it's over. Eat some Xanax & go home. We're done here.
Drive carefully.
272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there anything non-illegal exclusive to bitcoin? on: March 17, 2016, 08:43:31 PM
I was looking for something to spend btc on that isn't illegal that would make using bitcoin worth it, like are there "extra content if you use bitcoin" subscriptions or anything cool like that?

You can buy Trezor hardware wallet and some ASIC miner units with Bitcoin only, fiat not accepted. So yes, there are legal products you can buy with Bitcoins only. For non-Bitcoin related stuff this cant work so well though.

Lol, that's cute, but here:

Trezor.

Which miners were you talking about? (I haven't been following the mining scene for years,)
273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People mocking of me for using Bitcoin on: March 17, 2016, 05:37:40 PM
That the human behavior generally IMO. when they are faced with something they can't understand directly they try to mock it and make fun of it...

Also when they see something funny.
274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities on: March 17, 2016, 04:36:40 PM
No more than USD is being used for illegal activities.

If you took a look at the percentages of Bitcoin being used for illegal activities vs. the percentage of USD activities being used for illegal activities, Bitcoin would win by a huge amount

do you seriously think bitcoin is used more for bad things than the us dollar? you must be kidding, right? nothing in the world can come even close to the harm done by the us dollar.... bitcoin is of course also being used for illegal stuff, but in comparison to the us dollar, bitcoin doesn't even come close to 0,01% of the total harm done by by the us dollar. that fiat currency is being used to fund entire wars. but as always, the media picks always bitcoin out of everything. it clearly has influenced you.

Boldfaced it for you. Bitcoin's only unique use cases are crime, that's why it's users are disproportionately criminal. While USD is used to build roads and buy baby formula, BTC is mainly used to buy CP & shitty dwugs on DNMs. With the proceeds of your successful ransomware/extortion/scam investment/internet gambling operation.

And sure, USD was used to fund wars. Defeating the Axis in WW2, for instance. So you can whine about teh evol USD instead of getting gassed & incinerated.
UR welcome Smiley

Expecting faster confirms is simply idiotic, the system does not work like that, never has done, never will. If you want faster transactions use a higher layer (or god forbid get off your complaining asses and build a better on).

ya i no, rite?

The pitter-patter of [hobbled] little fetuses @3tps is as good as it gets. This is it.
Sorry.

Bitcoin's career climaxed when it was 5 yrs old, all downhill from here. So cry now or cry later, don't mater to me. But as a friend, I suggest you wait for The Big Garbage Day price spike, so you won't have to pay the junkman to haul away the sorry wreckage of your broken dreams Smiley

Illustration below depicts Bitcoin in its racing livery, zooming along @.3mph through the traps.

World domination next! Smiley

P.S. Sorry, that was the detail view. Full pic
