I *do* consider Vircurex one of the best exchanges around and it is a shame that there was a vulnerability (preparing multiple withdrawals in parallel and then releasing all of them at the same time) and I think such a breach won't happen again (once bitten, twice shy) but I admire the owner for sticking around and making a serious effort to pay back all that was lost. I have no affiliation or benefit from Vircurex, in fact I have frozen BTC and LTC sitting at Vircurex that some day will be un-frozen. I knew in advance that any deposit there could end up frozen and I decided that this was a risk I was willing to take. The rallies there in the past days will only help to regain trust and speed up paying back those frozen funds. I was quite unhappy that trading was so low in the past months, since Vircurex has always been the best exchange around and very open to the community as well as ready to take input from the community.
I have been forced to use Cryptsy for a lot of my trading and that has worked well too, but occasionally they have extreme delays.
I have a theory about the crazy rallies and why they only happen on Vircurex. My theory is that the thief of the funds (or someone related) is having remorse and in a strange way is paying back the funds by giving way-above-market prices for common traded coins, such as DVC. That, or there is some money-laundering going on. Strange it is...
And no, I do not have any problem with money sitting on Vircurex. Of course, I have not all my cryptos in one place, but having several BTC in coins on Vircurex sounds like a safe place to me. YMMV.

Either way, the best place to park bitcoins is ofcourse a higly encrypted offline wallet locked away in some safe. NOT an exchange.

The problem with vircurex is that it basically tries to lure in new traders with such rallies (and interest payments, etc), so that those new traders money can be used to pay off all the frozen amounts...

I dont like that. It's like they try to solve their problems on the back of other people, not by themselves.

Don't they have any reserves? Any of their own money they can put on line?

I still have QRK in storage, but when I got into QRK in late Nov-early December I bought in ($1,000 worth)at almost $0.25 USD each and now, well we know where it's at :-/

I feel you.

My plan is to always accumulate cryptos over time.
So I never buy a bunch of them in one day, but look that I can buy a few every week.

Therefor I was able to get a good average price since the price has been quite low in the last few months.

I agree with Georgem. QRK was based on a fast distribution idea of 6 months and that's what people signed on for. If it fails, then it fails...If it succeeds then it succeeds. QRK was a test and IMHO I wouldn't change anything. If people aren't satisfied with the current situation then they should move on to something else...point is buyers of QRK knew what they were getting into and if they didn't, then they didn't do their research. I lost lots of money with QRK but that's all water under the bridge now and I've moved on.

+1

but don't say that you lost money with QRK unless you already realized your loss. (sold your QRK for cheap)
QRK can still rise if there are valuable servies and products offered.

I have 20k QRK lying around, and I plan to not sell them until QRK is over 1$.

POW+POS is a good idea, maybe add anonymous in QRK is better

Changing a coin in such a fundamental way is totally wrong IMHO.

I understand forking to fix errors, but not this.
2645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: June 24, 2014, 04:31:26 AM
Vircurex is probably the best exchange to sit your bitcoins on...

-

Huh? How could vircurex be a good place to park bitcoins? That whole episode earlier this year was not confidence inspiring, to say the least.

That's what I was thinking too... I am not gonna put any currency into this exchange ever again.

I don't know the previous history about the connections between vircurex and a few devcoiners here, but some are clearly biased or atleast affiliated towards this exchange.

But for me vircurex is an absolute no-go.

A 30 million block of qrk mined and handed to escrow. Released in little bits to pay for developments and service creation for qrk as voted for by the qrk community. There is no development pot currently like other coins have.  We just need to discuss the possible pro's and con's of this before deciding either way. Most so far do NOT seems to agree with it. However it has not really been analysed of seriously debated as yet.

The other optioin is some seriously good ROI projects.

I think that's a bad idea. In general I think development funds are a bad idea.

In the real economy you don't just create money upfront under the guise that you will then use the money to create "useful stuff for society".
That creates a lot of distrust and unneeded centralization, it's exactly like governments and banks act in this fiat money system that we have, and we do NOT want to have any similarity with them.

Why not do it like we all have to do in our daily lifes:

You have to FIRST create something, and THEN you can ask people to buy it, and give you money.

NOT the other way around.

If anyone wants to help QRK, the best thing he can do is to buy a few QRK upfront (investment), and then go ahead and create something usefull for QRK.
If this thing turns out to be really helpful for QRK, the following price increase will create the ROI (return on investment).

As simple as that.

Look at the price tank even more.

I don't think so. Mazacoin has a few hardcore enthusiasts.
And should the price continue to decline, those people will simply buy up all remaining mazacoin paying very few satoshis for them,
and after that THEY control the price.

I for one am not going to sell any mazacoin I mine below 100 satoshi. And my preferred target price is even higher.

You gotta have a plan in life, son.

Also: The coming fork is to fix obvious errors (irregular blocktime). Fixing errors is always a good thing.

In a few words, can you explain what this "superblock" is?

I haven't been following the quark threads in the last weeks, ...

I am not saying that no one should mine. Just questioning how to motivate miners. MN owners are motivated by the 20% / block value taken from the miners. So miners get 20% less with MN payments on. That is a fact.
And the question to mine or not to mine - lets say you can rent out your mining power for 0.001 BTC / Mhs. Lets assume you have 200 Mhs on hand. Makes 0.2 BTC/day. With current price 0.0165 its aproximately 12 DRK/day. Which is almost double what you would get while mining directly.

And yes, I mine DRK, but my primary goal is to get as much DRK/day as possible, with the expectation of price rise.

You know what... now that I think about it.... go ahead. Everybody buy more and more masternodes... who cares. Invest your life savings in DRK, why not.
Everytime you take 1000 DRK off the market you will play into the feedback loop that will make mining more profitable again...

So please, just do as you wish, lol ...  Grin
2650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 23, 2014, 12:04:21 PM
Plus, a side effect of masternodes is increased price -- meaning that there is a very good reason to keep mining for the future.

This is the beautiful thing about darkcoin. Masternodes and Mining are in a constant positive feedback loop with each other.
It's crazy. Many people have not yet grasped the implications of this.

So anonymity aside... this feedback loop alone is worth a lot of money.
2651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 23, 2014, 11:58:21 AM
With the low heat/power needed for mining why not run a few. I threw 2 cards into my server to mine since its running 24/7 anyways.

+1

That's what I am talking about. Thanks for your service to the God of Darkness!
2652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 23, 2014, 11:53:54 AM
With current price, you make red numbers when mining. You can make almost double the DRK/day by renting your rig and buying at current price.
And with masternodes, getting 20% of miners payments ... What reason does one have to mine ? Except take it as a hobby project ?

True, but somebody has to do the mining, even if it is not profitable.

If I were a big DRK holder I would let a few GPUs run, just to help my DRK keep their value.  Roll Eyes

For people who already have the graphics cards, mining X11 is the best choice, those without are probably better off buying few thousand dark coins and running master nodes. Least that is how my math works out.

I'm working on setting up master nodes now and contemplating buying more to setup even more, but I would really like to be able to run multiple masternodes from one server instead of having to rent a dedicated and splitting it into several VP servers.

That is a good plan, and I understand your profitability calculation.

All I am saying is: somebody has to do the mining. Might aswell everybody help a little bit, instead of "hoping" that someone else will be stupid enough to do the not so profitable thing.
2653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 23, 2014, 11:35:17 AM
56 Masternodes would be pretty profitable considering almost no electricity usage to run them. Much better investment than mining equipment.

Now wait a minute.

It may be a better investment, but if everybody thought that and nobody would care to do energy expensive mining instead, then the coin would never keep the desired hashrate to secure the network.

The Masternodes are not here to secure the blockchain etc... they do a different job.

Without a secure transaction system the masternodes become pretty useless.

Hard fork source is up now on github.

thanks.

Well the problem is the entire dev team was comprised of a bunch of scamming, lying assholes. Once a coin has that reputation they're pretty much sunk even after the original team has bailed. Nobody that has a clue what they're doing is going to invest money into this - you guys have been beating a corpse for months now. It's dead - it was all based on lies - it's going nowhere - it was a pump-and-dump guys. Why not go spend your money on something that isn't already a proven scam? MintPal means nothing to me - do you have any idea how much crap they've added now? Every week they add a new piece of crap coin. Silkcoin? Yellowcoin (25% premine)? Razorcoin? It's a bunch of garbage.

Let's talk again in a few months. I have a good feeling about mazacoin.

Now that illusions and propaganda have dissappeared some real work can be done.

And this will cause real growth.

Everybody... again, please vote for devcoin to be added to mintpal.com ... https://www.mintpal.com/voting

If there are big buyers out there... why not make it easy for them to get their hands on devcoins?  Smiley

I feel there is a mr burns out there ... waiting to park a billion dollars into devcoin... just wait...  Shocked

on second thought.

Are 10 days really enough to inform all exchanges who trade mzc, and to make everyone update their wallets?

Probably. Nobody gives a crap about this coin so if you give them too much notice they'll put it off and then just forget to do it. Honestly there are maybe 5-6 total people that give a crap. You could do 2 days if you wanted to.

Maybe 10 days is enough. The few exchanges would probably instantly update their wallets, and the few miningpools are also very cooperative.

Nobody gives a crap?

The fact that MZC is listed on https://www.mintpal.com/market where many other coins with higher marketcap would wish to be listed ( https://www.mintpal.com/voting ) speaks volumes.

It's also outstanding that MZC has a wikipedia article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MazaCoin
It is even one of the few altcoins that is listed on the main cryptocurrency wikipage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cryptocurrencies#Notable_cryptocurrencies

Ask other coins like quark, infinitecoin, and whatever that tried to setup a wikipage, only to have it deleted after a few days.  Grin
They get deleted because they don't pass the General Notability Guideline: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GNG#General_notability_guideline

You are free to have your own opinion, but I think the people have spoken.

Unload your hate elsewhere.

Can someone give me an update?

Is a fork planned in the future? Or is this just a rumour.

Why the need for a fork? Forks are a bad idea, unless there is a grave error in the coin.

No, not any time soon is there going to be a fork. We've discussed a number of things with our developers and although there was some thought of converting to POS, that has been scrapped for the time being, as current POS implementation requires nearly daily involvement by developers.

Thanks for your answer. Ok.

I am happy that the coin stays as it is, POS and changing the rules etc is not a good idea.

I think quark has a wellbalanced inflation and the total amount at the moment is also appropriate. (I don't like the coins that have billions of units).
