I am sorry Mangled Blue, but...

sigh...

Cheesy Grin

So - I don't get it

You counter me with stupid GIF?/?Huh

Aren't you just pissy because I asked you to not display titty pix here where children can view them while parents read the DRK thread?

Is that not what the issue really is about Huh

Ah NOW I remember you. You are THAT guy.

You can bet that I will make this into a regular GIF series now: The Darkcoin Monster!

Thanks for giving me this idea in the first place!  Grin

Much better than titty pix anyway.

It's a huge pain in the ass. There are good guides available though.

Which is the lesser of two evils?

1. Try and build natively on a Win-7?
2. Build via cross-compile under Ubuntu Linux?

Both sound about the same, with the Linux route actually sounding less painful (I'm a unix/freebsd/mac osx/linux guy at heart)

-dvd

This is important for me to know too.

Have you found out what is the lesser of two evils?

What would you recommend?
I would prefer doing it in Win-7. But have not managed yet.

I ended up going the native windows route with MinGW it was surprisingly easy to get working.

-dvd

I am working thru it as we speak, I use the very helpful thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149479.0

lol, I dont think he means masternodes...

When a coin is new and in its nascent phase it needs nodes (basically wallets/daemons with static ip) so that wallets can sync to the blockchain in the first place.

Maybe this guy just read the first page of this thread and his wallet isn't synching because of a restrictive firewall.  Grin LMAO

If he only knew, man... if he only knew how far we have come...

I was more thinking of something like

or possiblly

or

And then we would also need atleast a similar symbol for a peer/node/wallet...
that maybe looks like a monitor, as depicted here...

or

There are many free icons available in the net, I'll do some search.
I found some here: http://www.iconattitude.com/icons/ico/8091/preferences-system-network.html

Is there an official symbol for a masternode?

I saw some attempts, but nothing was official. Are you up to the task?

I am not really a designer (although I am not a noob), but I would like to create an animated visualization (possibly even a simulation) of how masternodes and peers operate, and how the denominated money moves between them. I have much experience with Actionscript and Air.

Yes, you're right, I re-read the post, my bad, sorry. I am just touchy from all this "re-name Darksend" talk. Embarrassed

When Darkcoin goes opensource we will soon have 10 new developers, 10 new Evan Duffields joining the team.

They will all come up with new ideas, better / other / additional methods, and we the users can just relax and sit back and enjoy the most innovative currency out there.

Those developers will come up with new principles that will require new names....

So names are going to evolve over time. It will happen.

In 200 years, they will use a cryptocurrency simply called CREDITS or UNITS. Ok?

People will look into the sourcecode of CREDITS and find remnants of the words Darkcoin and Masternode.

 Grin

LOL!

Dude, Darkcoin is fine! Describes it to a tee. No need to mess with it.

Ofcourse, Darkcoin is the name of the protocol, the name of the technology.
But even if this changes and people call it something else, who cares?

I have no problem with this.

You know, there will come a time when cryptocurrencies will be so widespread, and the wallet handling will have become so easy, people who are not technical they will not even have to mess with Addresses like XtAdMy5nSxArut6rKKLQXxm84rpJNipXib... it will all be much easier and use additional higher layers that make everything more approachable.

It will happen. I am sorry, but Darkcoin is not a name built for eternity, lol.

Dollar is. It came from the german word Taler.
Plata is, coming from the spanish word for silver/money.

I am 100% sure that all those project names we come up with now on the fly are completely meaningless in the long haul. Ofcourse they are. Memes will be created that better reflect what billions of people want.
2113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Darksend Is Live! on: September 20, 2014, 05:10:46 PM
Did you guys know that the dollar note is in fact named "Federal Reserve Note" ?

So, people call their money "dollar" because that's what they called their money for centuries...
But it's not the official name of the money, which is FRN.

What I want to say with this is.... I see the name Darkcoin as nothing more than the official project name.
Project goal: trying to create a fully functional anonymous online ecash.

I am confident that if Darkcoin becomes mainstream and is used by the masses, a new name for this currency / payment-method will arise to describe the new layer on top of the underlying protocol called Darkcoin.
Much like people talk about the WorldWideWeb (www) and not HTTP, although the latter is the underlying protocol for www.

So we should really not care about names, people will call their money whatever they like, ... something will emerge, and the masses will have the last word.

What if in 10 years large parts of spanish speaking south americans use Darkcoin protocol but prefer to call the currency obscuro, or "scuro"?

Why not? It's the peoples money and they decide what to name it and how to use it.

That's why I don't agree with:

But, this is Evan's baby, he wants to keep the name, end of story!

Evan will always be seen as the creator of Darkcoin, but he can't claim ownership of it.
Darkcoin belongs to everybody who wants to use it. Or else it's useless. Period.

Apple and google to introduce default encryption

We'll see if it gets open sourced.
Wait, their whole systems are NOT open sourced, lol...

Yeah, right...

Just realised that I didn't mention the most important thing....this is clearly a not for profit venture.  If I ended up running the pool, I'd apply to the dev fund to reimburse me for actual costs incurred...

Can't it be both? For profit and charity?

How does the saying go: Altruism doesn't exist, sustainability must be made profitable.

2)  Even with a load of people cpu mining it might just not be worth it.  Some maths to be done I think!

That is true... what I would wish for is to have a raspberry pi that has somekind of X11 USB ASIC miner attached to it. Then we could make this work.

Hopefully by 2015 the first X11 USB ASIC miners will appear on the market.

In theory, there is no reason why I can't offer multiple algorithms.  I've got a few Ghs of Scrypt mining going to waste that I'd be happy to point towards a "charity" pool

What are people's thoughts on possible mining fees?  the good news is that hardware/network costs are likely to be quite low.  When running 6Ghs X11 bursts through Nomp we were only using 1-2% CPU on a T2.medium.  It could probably be hosted on something much smaller (if a colab with the official pool doesn't happen).

Maybe contact the guys from xpool.ca

I indirectly "mine" DRK there by mining a few SHA256 coins. They sell the SHA256 coins every 2-3 days, and I get DRK in return.

Maybe we can get them on board for your charity project.
They get advertizing, you get your percentages.

Well that sucks..

"I have identified a few privacy-related issues in the code. For the time being, I recommend that users pause use of Darksend+ for privacy purposes, or bolster them with other blockchain privacy tactics as part of a privacy-in-depth strategy, until the issues can be fixed; these issues were reported to the Darkcoin dev team on 2014/09/18, and acknowledged by email by the dev team on the same day. All will be fully disclosed by 2014/10/18 as part of “responsible disclosure” practices. I expect that they will be addressed sooner than 2014/10/18; if corrected Release Candidate binaries are made available before then, I will disclose the issues at that point. For the time being, I’m reserving the following IDs for the issues so that their status can be tracked:"

I'll have everything he found fixed by Monday.

Tuesday's cool  Grin

Sacrificing another weekend for darkcoin. What a fella!

I mean go ahead and use your rasp pi, but you're not even going to generate a single penny if you ran it for an entire year. So it really is not worth your hassle to keep it running.

I understand, but even an average multicore CPU doesn't create much more DRK per year. Difficulty is really high already.

A raspberry pi could be hooked to your network 24/7 and additionaly provide a node to the network, helping spread the blockchain.

Darkberry pi?

The point is to utilise as many spare CPU cycles as we can find. No reason we can't use Pi!

But is it even possible to mine DRK with Raspberry Pi?
I don't think that the available CPU miners run on a raspberry.

Can someone confirm this?
