I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed we're not going the route of a DarkTor equivalent.

Yet*

Seems like anybody (not just darkcoin core team) could develop an add-on for masternodes to create Darktor. Maybe after open source somebody will see this as a profitable business model and write the code to make it happen. Who knows. But probably better having the core team working on core issues.

I now think it's better if darkcoin does one thing (anonymity) and does it really really well. Like In N' Out Burgers or Bakesale Betty's in Oakland CA, they make amazing fried chicken sandwiches, nothing else. Line out the door every day. Man I'm hungry.

Exactly.
Following the traditional crypto rules: more decentralization is always better. Don't put all eggs in one basket. Don't have one guy do everything.

What is the roadmap for Darkcoin after Darksend+ is perfected and open sourced?

As was stated by Darkcoin's lead developer eduffield today:

Darkcoin will focus on providing a host of anonymity services using the Darksend implementation. This would mean my next project would be to rewrite electrum to use the masternodes to anonymize funds, then an android wallet that can use Darksend, then iPhone, etc. The foundation would also be tasked with trying to get businesses to accept Darkcoin and expand the user base.
It means that ALL users will have an out-of-the-box nearly perfect anonymous payment solution, which could be a big deal in the near term future.

I was wondering if it is possible to send anonymous messages to an address with darkcoin.
So that the reciever could potentially even read the message within his wallet.
Kinda like BitMessage built into darkcoin.

THAT would be so awesome.

I know that I can sign a message with darkcoin, ... hmm... but not sure if this is the same.

My goal is, to one day be able to send someone a serial number (or similar things) back after he anonymously payed me with darkcoin.

Yes. This is basically how the ip obfuscation tech works that I detailed a few weeks ago. It could very easily be turned into an encrypted messaging service.

Awesome. Awesome to the max!
Please make this happen soon.
I will need it for a darkcoin related project I am working on. (I want to create software & apps and sell them for darkcoin)

So how low is DarkCoin going?

How low?

I hope directly down to the earth's core...

... where it will no longer be affected by a gravitational pull anymore, and then NOTHING can hold darkcoin back anymore. NOTHING!!!

Great feedback Propulsion! Thank you! So basically it would be better to incorporate a filter option for kids or sensitives... a Darkcoin Kids wallet and browser? Maybe Darkcoin Business version too, so employers know no adult content is being streamed of downloaded on their office systems without their knowledge ?

NO r-ando, no filtering, no censorship, no control of any sort. The notions you keep propounding are ridiculous and ignorant. Propulsion's final summary point was "End users should take their own precautions on what type of content they and or others are exposed to". How much clearer do we all need to be?

Exactly.

r-ando, stop looking at your fellow human beings as if they are livestock that needs to be controlled, that needs to have blinders put around its eyes, so that the master can easier control it.
The blinders/filters are not here to help the livestock, they are here to help the farmer! Ofcourse!

Damn it!
We are not livestock.
We don't need to be controlled, neither thru blinders/filters put around our eyes/minds, nor thru fences.

Understand that we live in a world where slavemasters are trying to control you and me, much like a farmer controls his livestock.
If you let them treat you like livestock, they will build a fence around you, they will breed you and feed you and lead you to the butcher.

I think the people here supporting censorship in the name of the children have a very poor grasp of history.  You guys crying for moral judgement on bits of data are one step removed from burning books, then burning people. Control of information, any information, is the primary m.o. for any power structure from ancient Greece to today.

At the rate we're going we'll soon need a retinal scan for accessing the internet, you know for terrorists and pedophiles. This is the modern equivalent of being denied access to literature.

Excellent concise summation of the fallacy of asking government to solve problems by giving up freedom.

We must stop this extremely dangerous discussion that the only solution to the problem of childporn is that we all must be censored and let the government control our harddisks.
I didn't say that. I just said if its possible, exclude it. I said nothing in regards to it stopping cp or what have you.

I wasn't quoting you or anything, I was just giving my 2 cents.
2213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | DarkSend+ Is Live! on: September 02, 2014, 06:29:18 PM
I tend to agree with the quite controversial position of rick falkvinge when it comes to child pornography:

http://falkvinge.net/2012/09/07/three-reasons-child-porn-must-be-re-legalized-in-the-coming-decade/

The creation of childporn is a horrible crime, and I wouldn't mind strangling those creators with my own hands.

But what about the possession of child porn ? (now bear with me for a minute, and read the article I posted above, it is very enlightening.)

How come I could be prosecuted like a child molestor if someone finds a child porn pic on my pc?
If the single possession of such a pic constitutes a crime, doesn't this make it the perfect tool to frame somebody?
Just smuggle such a pic on my pc and anonymously inform the police, and there goes my life. It's insane.

I say that any file no matter its content should be legal.

We must stop this extremely dangerous discussion that the only solution to the problem of childporn is that we all must be censored and let the government control our harddisks.
Because the endgame of this is pure totalitarianism.

Don't let the puritans and moralists take your rights away under false pretenses.
They DO NOT WANT to go after child molesters, in fact their only goal is to take our rights away.

Wake up people, we must find real solutions against child molesters, not false insane solutions that lead to a totalitarian state.

You are making a judgement by trying to purge adult entertainment industries from the get go. Personally, I like adult entertainment; it's natural.

+1.

All those people who want to gradually take our liberties away under the phoney pretense that they want to protect society from the "evils of the world" are in fact the single most dangerous menace to human liberty.
In all human history moralists and puritans always tried to control the population by imposing insane moral rules on us. They want to tell you what to eat, what to drink, what to enjoy, who to marry, how to raise your children, etc... it's about control, and nothing else. Especially puritans are the worst of the worst, because they literally hate it when you enjoy your life too much.  Grin

They are trying to manipulate us into feeling guilty or ashamed of things that are totally natural and have always been part of our lifes.

So let's just say NO to them.

We don't restrict our freedom to watch porn just because there is some child porn out there. How can a sane person even mention those two things in the same sentence?
We shouldn't let government spy on us, just because some of us could be terrorists. Terrorist is a bullshit term anyway. The american revolutionaries of 1776 were in fact terrorists in the eyes of the king of england. So... what gives?
We shouldn't believe government when it points to some foreigners and tells us: these people are your enemy, we must destroy them.
Because war is the health of the state, government ALWAYS wants to wage war against someone, because war is big business.

So let's just say NO to them.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin

strange, today I run into a strange problem when I start the darkcoin wallet.

A few hours ago I added a 4TB harddisk to my computer. A new drive, as additional volume.
The darkcoin wallet and blockchain are on other volumes on the same computer, ...

But when I start the darkcoin wallet, I recieve a warning as described here (for bitcoin):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=232343.0

Warning: Please check that the computer's date and time...

But my date and time is accurate. Sep 2, 2014.

Has anyone else experienced a similar error before?
Wallet works perfectly though, I sent some DRK to it an hour ago, and no problem.
It's just that I keep receiving a warning popup whenever I start darkcoin-qt

EDIT: Oops, forget it, I was one hour in the future, ....  Grin

Hey! I've come across a few ardent Monero supporters the other day and we've gotten in this argument about whose technology for anonymous transactions is more advanced, DRK or XMR. What arguments do we have to shut them up?

You don't shut the competition up, you just friendly smile at them, while you continuously work on becoming better than them.  Grin
Competition is good and should be encouraged, so that the enduser wins.

On a more positive note... Id like to organize a Darkcoin community get together in the up coming year.  what are the thoughts to the idea?

Hawaii or Barcelona.

Bring the wine.  Wink

It's gotta be something neutral like Czech Republic or Germany Grin

Barcelona, Germany, Czech Republic,.... all sound nice to me and are approximately the same distance from where I am: switzerland.

I would love to meet with you guys one day.  Smiley

The average IT project implementation timeline is 3-5 years

This project is 8 months old, marketing will happen when the team is ready.

Until then, enjoy these low prices, you're not going to see them ever again...

I doubt if an everage user is gonna be ready to wait that long. Considering the price is creeping down day and night.

F**k the average user.
The average user is always late to the party.

So georgem, while I can understand some of what you're inferring in relation to committed users in it for the long haul, I think your statement "F**k the average user" is the very epitome of what we DON'T want to do.

Ofcourse, but don't take my post out of context.
It was meant as answer to TheTruth4 who said he is "in doubt if an everage user is gonna be ready to wait that long". (for development to be finished)
I don't care if the average user is ready for anything.
We need commited users, willing to stand behind darkcoin, help its development, hold the community together and spread the message.
And this for the next few years at least!
And while we do that the average users will simply follow, much like flies who are attracted to a light source.
The light source will not come from the average users, but from the commited users.

F**k the average user.
Bitcoin didn't go to 1000 $ because of average users.
It also didn't maintain it's pricelevel around 500$ for the last half year because of average users.

If history repeats itself, the following will happen:
You can now buy darkcoin at insanely low prices.
In 1-2 years you can sell those darkcoins to "average users" for a price - order of magnitudes higher.

The average user is always late to the party.
So.... wait for the party, prepare yourself.
When the "johnny come latelies" arrive, you will have to be here to fullfill their needs...
If you have given up in the meantime, then there will be no party for you!  Roll Eyes

Most people who got rich with bitcoin held on to their coins for atleast 1-2 years, before they couldn't resist selling a few at the Nov 2013 spike.
So, that seems to be the behaviour that leads to success. NOT daytrading.

Is there someone mining darkcoin with an AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0GHz CPU?

If yes, how much DRK can you potentially mine with such a CPU at the moment?

Probably something like .002 DRK in a week.

That's what I feared... so this is a GPU coin one can say?

no sir its not GPU only, but there is no profit with cpu unless you are like me ... mining DRK directly with or withour profit

so my i7's can do aroun 600kh/s per CPU

Yes you are right. Mining is not always about profit.
People should also mine a little just to help the network, and secure the value of their holdings.
