Just out of curiosity, do we catch now only the copy-pasters or we can catch those using word spinners as well with this script??
2743  Other / Meta / Re: Neutral Feedback to replace the red paint for non-scamming activities? on: May 11, 2019, 11:56:34 PM
I apologise that I created this mess again. My intentions were different I wanted only to find a way to make people agree with each other, not create confrontations.

To summarize it, the only good idea that came out from this thread was to create a button to switch between the negative to neutral trust feedback.

I'm locking this thread, let's bury the hatchets.

TIPS FOR AVOIDING PYRAMID QUOTES

Hi everyone,

In my opinion, over-quoted threads are amongst the most annoying types of shitshows in the forum. Honestly, I used to compose such over-quoted threads, but over time I saw better threads from higher-ranked members, then I learnt from them and improve my threads' styles.
In the topic, I would like to present these following stuffs:

- To share with you some necessary tutorials on how to improve your threads' appearance by avoiding over-quoting when composing them.
- To save more space and help it more comfortable for readers, all images will be shown with links. Therefore, readers should click to those links to see them.

For now, your question will be "oh, what are the problems of over-quoted threads?"

As you can see in the following thread, creator over-quoted past threads, which result in vague of idea flows. Furthermore, doing this also causes their threads a bit messy, annoying. Looking at those threads, it is hard to know which specific thread they wanted to discuss (dozens of threads quoted).
https://i.imgur.com/6uL9h6A.png
Additionally, such over-quoted threads also require large space to display. It means my fingers hurted too much to scroll my computer mouse. And no one is responsible for my medical bills  Grin.

To improve threads' quality, at least its appearances, there are three basic simple steps composers should do:
1) Deleting all un-necessary stuffs (including threads, contents, over-sized images attached, etc.). Only keep which threads (full contents of those threads) you want to discuss with.
2) Using snip to announce that in your thread, you only quote part of original contents of others' threads.
3) Seperating original threads to different smaller sentences/ paraphrases which you want to discuss specific part of its contents with your specific ideas.

So, if you spend time to read, and interested in the topic, your next question might be: Oh, sounds great, but how to do this?
Here you go:
Please look at the following images, then you will know how to do this.
I present three ways of avoiding over-quoted threads for you, which correspond to the three points I mentioned above.

1) The first way:
For the specific thread above, please click on the quote, then deleting all contents in the blue highlighted range (which I show you in the two following images).
From there:

To there:
https://i.imgur.com/pi7Iwkg.png
Case study here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3046992.msg32182737#msg32182737

2) The second way: if you would like to hide all contents which are extremely long (but still allocate which thread you want to discuss). Please do like this:
https://i.imgur.com/foveK5R.png
Replace all contents by using ~, snip.
Code:
~
or snip
or < snip >
Case study here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg35410681#msg35410681

3) The third way:
For instance:
https://i.imgur.com/gD8uQxm.png
Additionally, if you only discuss with one thread, you should ignore link to the original thread since the second part of quote, you can do like this (simply using):
Code:
Quote
contents
to ignore link to the original thread
Case study here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3377342.msg36883745#msg36883745

To sum up:
Composing your threads with the approach will make them have better appearance. It does not relate to the quality, but somehow makes your threads look a little bit better.
It is not only useful in the Meta board (and other serious ones), but also has good impacts in spamming boards (like altcoin discussions, etc.) ^^
I strongly believe that lots of higher-ranked members don't know how to do this because they luckily ranked up to those current high levels due to old rank requirements, before the lauch of merit system.

Sorry if my topic hurts your fingers, but I think that it's better to display those images to make the topic easier to understand.
This is valuable lesson I learnt from my experiences, so I would like to share it with someone who need it, and has still don't known how to do it.
For someone who known, just ignore my topic.
Please take it easy, because I don't want to bother you with my topic.

Notes:
The topic has been under-constructions

P.S. bitcointalk. TO has updated to your last edit so it's worthless.

For those who suspect me, It's not me. I would love to spare some more free time to investigate them but nowadays I have just small 5-10 min breaks in which I visit the forum and it's mainly for reading.

It's summer time and when I finish building the new veranda I'll have my free time Smiley

Good to hear that the system is working, good luck to the one who is doing it Smiley

2746  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos is it true that you forced OG to remove Laudas tagg ? on: May 10, 2019, 11:37:04 PM

Nice return time.   Are you an alt of me?  :/

Damn, Vod had registered one of the best IP addresses. How many bitcoins you paid for such static address???
I bet you registered the localhost as well, right?
You better change your nick to Rich, instead of Vod Wink
2747  Other / Meta / Re: [RELEASED] @mention notification bot - now with Telegram on: May 10, 2019, 07:30:42 AM
Are they active now the PM notifications or we still receive notifications in the thread? Shall we remove the threads after we move to PMs? I'd like to keep mine as a reference for now, and maybe delete it later on.
2748  Other / Meta / Re: Neutral Feedback to replace the red paint for non-scamming activities? on: May 09, 2019, 10:10:29 PM
The whole idea behind the neutral feedback is to take away the tension between some members.
They can still fight their wars without ruining each others accounts with baseless accusations.

I personally don't like to give the red paint to people without solid proofs. So accusations based on assumption should be noted with neutral feedback.

Regarding the protection of newbies, it's better to educate them to protect themselves and question everything, not only pointing out the threat.
There should be a warning signs everywhere that there are some scammers operating in the forum and to be aware. Those warning should be visible to everyone below member rank.

The best solutions are born in discussions, do that's why I created this thread.
2749  Other / Meta / Re: [RELEASED] @mention notification bot - now with Telegram on: May 09, 2019, 06:47:27 PM
With pm you have to do some extra work to delete them, but unfortunately there is not a better solution i could think of, without counting switching to telegram.  Undecided

What if the bot edited the last post in the thread (by inserting new notifications at the top) instead of creating a new post every time? Up to the 64k limit, then start a new post or remove old notifications off the bottom.

That would reduce the number of posts significantly and perhaps would keep theymos happy.

And the notifications can be shorter, just "you've been mentioned here >link and the title of the thread here <".
Basically oneliners Smiley

~
This is a good idea!  But , then it cant notify you can it? No new reply? If it is possible I think it would have been brought up in the reputation thread for edit proofs? Im just thinking out loud.

It will notify you if he quote the old one first and then delete it.
2750  Other / Meta / Neutral Feedback to replace the red paint for non-scamming activities? on: May 09, 2019, 06:41:16 PM
A solution to the drama with the red trust given for any stupid activity can be just a simple change in the system.

As theymos noted, the red trust should be strictly for scammy behaviour.
 For the rest we can leave neutral comments like we do now for merit begging.

The only improvement will be to show the neutral feedback in the profiles, like we have now positive and negative.

This count won't affect the account itself but will warn the other users to read the feedbacks before doing business with the person, again only DT1 and DT2 feedbacks will be counted.

2751  Other / Meta / Re: Login in the forum using your Finger Print on: May 09, 2019, 09:52:56 AM
Yesterday was KYC, today is fingerprints, tomorrow will be the retinal scanning/face recognition, and we gonna end up with a teeth recognition at the end.
The one-man-army a.k.a theymos cannot make miracles here, at least not so big ones, so one day ... (hope this will be before the time we mine the last bitcoin) ... will come a new, better, quite expensive already, software which will replace the SMF and we gonna step into the 21 century.
I like the old-fashion way of SMF but I'm an 80's baby so...
2752  Economy / Services / Re: 🔥 Gunbot Twitter Campaign 🔥 [0.00025 PER REPORT] 🔥 [OPEN] 🔥 on: May 09, 2019, 08:10:14 AM
Let me take out this one from the dead and raise the question again, what happened to this campaign??
Shall we consider it a lost cause?
The bounty manager abandoned it without adding and processing the data, there's nothing that can be done.

Thanks for the answer Lauda, I just sent aTriz a PM to confirm that nothing more will be done with the campaign and just forget about it.
People should be informed for such things.
2753  Other / Meta / Re: [RELEASED] @mention notification bot - now with Telegram on: May 09, 2019, 06:30:29 AM
Great, I was hoping this to happen it was nice to get a notifications in the thread but those should have been self-moderated. Poor Maggiordomo, had a really big chance to become the Top poster in the forum but... Wink

2755  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bounty cheaters using reputed members accounts to register for bounty campaign on: May 08, 2019, 12:13:24 PM
I didn't know that something like this exists. Maybe this could be a game? Hunting spreadsheets with cheaters.  Winner gets the bounty. Lol

I was looking for a bounty cheaters like using same address, same twitter account etc.  when I found Lauda on the list and I was like "what", then I posted all my finding in the thread I mentioned above.
And the worst part was that this was just the first random bounty spreadsheet I open.
Just imagine how many are out there.
When I have some more free time I'll start hunting them again.

Put more description of the project. Not everyone is willing to click on links posted by other users. I have no problem with that but I came across some people having such concerns.
Sounds interesting project, good luck with that.
2758  Other / Meta / Re: Do the right thing and you wouldn't have to worry about red trust on: May 07, 2019, 11:40:01 AM
Please, no more threads about this, please.
We already have enough treads from Thule and CH/alts (the one you mentioned) repeating the same as a broken records.
Those threads should be in the Reputation board anyway.
2759  Other / Meta / Re: The other side of merit system on: May 07, 2019, 09:53:40 AM
~~~~~
If your other posts are like this one, I guess you will get more merits.
It is for sure also about where to place posts.
So keep trying
On the other hand, look at my posts... i am ALWAYS trying to help but i will NEVER make Sr. Member just because newbies that need help don't give merit.
Have you seen this thread before > [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source ? Newbies have no smerit to send. The only way is to be spotted by a senior or Merit source.
2760  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: May 06, 2019, 09:09:02 PM
the new merit system is likely to be misused by irresponsible people to get some personal benefits. like giving merit to his multi account to increase account rank. and maybe sell merit services to someone who really needs merit who is willing to pay for it. how does the admin team detect this fraud Huh so the forum avoided the monopoly of certain people. just a few of my opinions.
Can you point out those cases you are talking about?
Most of the abusers got caught, the community constantly monitor the merit transfers.
