1781  Economy / Services / Re: Are there any avatar campaigns? I'll do a list :) on: February 14, 2020, 10:23:21 AM
Seems like there are no active, or more precisely, publicly active avatar campaigns, that is why I think it is best to lock this thread with an option to open it later, when/if something new comes up.
In the mean time, if you have information about any available avatar campaigns, please shoot me a PM.
Thanks to the ones who posted good info here Smiley
1782  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: February 14, 2020, 09:54:39 AM
There is a fake Chipmixer website trying to scam if you are not very careful when you type the address. I think the real ChipMixer should be aware of this issue.
It's already reported in the Scam accusation section by TravelMug.

Warning: Fake Chipmixer website

1783  Other / Meta / Re: Do we need merit sources for low ranks? on: February 14, 2020, 08:51:49 AM
That will be a tough job, you have to read a ton of bullshit spam or useless posts to find a good post that was not merited.

Those who come into the forum for the first time and have no idea (or have a minor knowledge about bitcoin or blockchain) what crypto is and want to learn about bitcoin and the forum are doomed just because, most likely the questions they have are already answered.
It is very difficult to distinguish a genuine newbie from already banned sig. spammer, account farmer, trolling bot, and other low-life creatures lurking around here.

When you see a good long post from a newbie, you just rush to his post history in a hope that he has more like this, but quite often the rest of the posts are one-liners in a broken English. Next thing you do, is to check for plagiarism, because you don't believe that this guy is capable to write such a post after the crappy post history.
Sometime you find something, sometimes you don't. Do you really want to merit an account farmer?

You feel kin'a better when you see an already merited guy posting something good, just quick look on his merit history and then post history and there you go. Somebody has already done the dirty work to find the quality newbie and rise him up so people like you to spot him easily..

So, basically no one will want to be a newbie merit source.. it's just too much work...

I wish I attend an English language school instead of Spanish, I never really used Spanish so it's dead too.
1784  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus Outbreak on: February 13, 2020, 02:59:51 PM
Maybe all the numbers are quite off ??

Quote
Exiled Chinese businessman Guo Wengui recently revealed leaks from Wuhan crematoriums. He claims based on the number of bodies their furnaces are burning, the death toll could be as high as 50,000.

The official coronavirus death toll in China is a little over 800. But an exiled Chinese businessman says crematoriums are leaking the real figure.

A billionaire whistleblower alleges Wuhan has crematoriums working 24/7. He claims they’ve cremated some 50,000 coronavirus victims.

Guo Wengui is a Chinese billionaire living in exile in the United States.

1785  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {Warning} Emotet Malware Now Hacks Nearby Wi-Fi Networks to Infect New Victims! on: February 13, 2020, 02:54:34 PM
Here is the full quote of the explonantion of how it works.

Quote
The updated version of the malware works by leveraging an already compromised host to list all the nearby Wi-Fi networks. To do so, it makes use of the wlanAPI interface to extract the SSID, signal strength, the authentication method (WPA, WPA2, or WEP), and mode of encryption used to secure passwords.

On obtaining the information for each network this way, the worm attempts to connect to the networks by performing a brute-force attack using passwords obtained from one of two internal password lists. Provided the connection fails, it moves to the next password in the list. It's not immediately clear how this list of passwords was put together.

But if the operation succeeds, the malware connects the compromised system on the newly-accessed network and begins enumerating all non-hidden shares. It then carries out a second round of brute-force attack to guess the usernames and passwords of all users connected to the network resource.

After having successfully brute-forced users and their passwords, the worm moves to the next phase by installing malicious payloads — called "service.exe" — on the newly infected remote systems. To cloak its behavior, the payload is installed as a Windows Defender System Service (WinDefService).

In addition to communicating with a command-and-control (C2) server, the service acts as a dropper and executes the Emotet binary on the infected host.

The fact that Emotet can jump from one Wi-Fi network to the other puts onus on companies to secure their networks with strong passwords to prevent unauthorized access. The malware can also be detected by actively monitoring processes running from temporary folders and user profile application data folders.

I wnated to avoid quoting the whole article in the OP but seems that it's better that way.
The source is the samne as in the OP.
1786  Other / Meta / Re: Launch Possible of bitcointalk.org forum mobile application ? on: February 13, 2020, 02:02:03 PM
For a retro forum, you need a retro phone. Of of the best phones  I ever owned.
No need to carry a bluetooth keyboard, you already have one perfect so you can type fast and the most importat is no Andorid, no Windows Phone, No Mac.. in one word. no shit..
Nobody will hack your password, no malwares, no viruses.

I never manage to break it, and it's still lying somewhre around the house.
This is the top notch for the forum the good old Nokia N900.

I think I need to bump this with a small request.
While I'm doing a new list with Soon-to-be-Legendary, fount this guy (see below) who needs 4 merit to rank up to Legendary ( if he is that lucky). He already have the activity.
I'm out of sMerit otherwise you know... I love to rank-up people Smiley

I have to know if I'm gonna put him in the competition Smiley

Done.

1788  Other / Beginners & Help / {Warning} Emotet Malware Now Hacks Nearby Wi-Fi Networks to Infect New Victims! on: February 13, 2020, 09:50:37 AM
A waring to everyone since this attack has begun in April 2018 and for two years is not surprising if you are also affected.

Quote
Emotet, the notorious trojan behind a number of botnet-driven spam campaigns and ransomware attacks, has found a new attack vector: using already infected devices to identify new victims that are connected to nearby Wi-Fi networks.

According to researchers at Binary Defense, the newly discovered Emotet sample levera

ges a "Wi-Fi spreader" module to scan Wi-Fi networks, and then attempts to infect devices that are connected to them.

The cybersecurity firm said the Wi-Fi spreader has a timestamp of April 16, 2018, indicating the spreading behavior has been running "unnoticed" for close to two years until it was detected for the first time last month.

Based on what I read in the below quiote, the most affected are the Windows users as the bot is installed as Windows Defender System Service. I presume tha those with other operating systems have to chainge at least their WI-Fi passwords.

1789  Other / New forum software / If we want a proper testing of Epochtalk, we need at least the Beta site back! on: February 13, 2020, 07:51:54 AM
Since theymos said that in order the forum to migrate to Epochtalk the community has to do their part in testing and debugging.
It seems to work, as there is some movement in the development but I don't see the migration happening before the return of satioshi...
To accelerate the process and actually create awareness, we should get back the beta site up and running and inform the users in a way so they can actually contribute.

All we have now are two websites (at least I know of) running Epochtalk.

The first one is maintained by lulucrypto
The second one is Cyrus and the recovery team.

Suggestions.
Bringing back the beta:

  • pros:
    • We all can test it for free
    • Create more awareness of the project
    • Migrate in the near future.
  • cons:
    • Theymos has to find time or hire someone else (Cyrus?)
    • Then comes the trust issue (but if it is Cyrus, he is already an admin)
    • <theymos will insert more>

- Hire a prof QA to do it quickly and efficiently.
- Wait for satoshi to fix it (which has the highest chance to happen) /s Smiley
1790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bulgaria's government is top countries of the world for owning the most bitcoin on: February 12, 2020, 02:13:25 PM
~
I believe that they don't have the laws for monetizing those coins. And I believe that some individuals there may have been stashing away some of those coins too, so when the legislation will exist they'll find out that the coins are missing.

This is exactly what is going to happen, maybe already happen if they really managed to seized them. When we (the community) rise the question regarding those bitcoins the authorities remain silent and denied any information. *
I was planning to rise the question again, and keep asking until we get an answer. This is huge amount of money, and there should be people responsible for the actions taken to protect this kind of wealth.

*The link to the official answer received from the Authorities to the request of one investigative journalist.

1791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CHINA NEED PRAYERS AND NOT BITCOIN on: February 12, 2020, 12:06:05 PM
Just a random silly question,
When you are sick, what you do? You go to the doctor or you go to the priest?
You have a third option if it's too late to go to the doctor then you don't need to go to the priest because he will anyway come to your funeral.

People, be more serious, no one can live only on prayers. It they were true, there would be a collective cancer-treating prayer therapies and all the chemotherapy clinics would have just closed doors.

Money on the other hand can buy you a medicine and postpone meeting the priest on your funeral (which is inevitable anyway).

Sure, there are some spiritual forces which we have not learned yet but if you are not sure what it does, don't mess with it.

So basically, financial support will help a lot more than a collective PRAYERS! That's what I think. No offense to any of the believers here.
1792  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] How to get genuine windows 10 ISO and why? on: February 12, 2020, 11:25:32 AM
~
There were some reports about sound settings limitations as well. It's not the best solution but still free.
This is new, I haven't heard of this before. What kind of sound limitations are we talking about?

I read it sometime ago but seems like I can't find the link, I don't really remember where I read it but it was about if you have a few sound devices connected at the same time, some sort of the settings were not acceable due to the not activated windows 10. If I remember correctly it was a Miracast thread, I had some issues with the Miracast back then and while reading other people problems, came across a post about the sound setting and the not activated windows. I'll try to look it back again.
1793  Other / Meta / Re: Self-made Legendary Observer - another Legendary-krogothmanhattan, Congrats! on: February 12, 2020, 10:16:52 AM
These seem to have reached Legendary with the change of activity cicle (they were Heroes last Friday):

Blacknavy (from Hero Member)
Royse777 (from Sr. Member)
Wow, that's an interesting move Smiley The list should be extend more, looks like.
From Sr.member (?!) how that is even possible...you need to really get like 501 Merit for like a two weeks and I don't really see in Royse's history anything like that. Mystery... Now I see what you ment Smiley

Quote
Not sure if you are still keeping the original criteria (from 0 or 10 merits). I don't think so.
No I really don't.  Now I prefer to make an observation over those who have a chance to rank up to legendary no matter what activity nor reg. date they have.
I already done my experiment with the ranking from my group Wink
1794  Other / Meta / Re: Self-made Legendary Observer - another Legendary-krogothmanhattan, Congrats! on: February 12, 2020, 09:26:34 AM
1st. o_e_l_e_o - Ranked up at 798 Ativity (01.01.20)
The link is not working because yo have missed : after https

Thanks, fixed it, actually there was an extra https:// in the link. This is what happnes when you try to edit long posts wiht a lot of formating on a phone.. with a broken screen Cheesy (congrats, just gave you my last smerit, you got lucky too)

@fillippone you won the previuose one, maybe you gonna hit this one too and if that happnes, you better buy a lotto ticket Smiley (and don't forget me if you win the Millions Tongue)
1795  Other / Meta / Re: Self-made Legendary Observer - we have the second Legendary-joniboini, Congrats! on: February 12, 2020, 08:57:43 AM
There we have another Legendary - krogothmanhattan.
Truly deserved ranking up. One of the real assets of the collectable section.
Seems like fillippone was right, well congrats to you as well. Smiley

As deserving as they come.

Btw ..I would be willing to bet I beat over a handful of users on the list Smiley  Your day is near my friend and will be well deserved!

Thanks man, you are also coming closer to get into the Legendary field, and you are here since 2016 which makes you much more Legendary then me Wink

This week round started so for now no changes, Let's stay tuned to see who will be the next after krogothmanhattan.
I bet on BitCryptex this time.

This can be tunred into a betting game and have nice pottential. Anyone is free to make a betting competition. Smiley
1796  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] How to get genuine windows 10 ISO and why? on: February 12, 2020, 08:49:56 AM
The not activated Windows 10 have some limitations, like for example you can't change any settings under personalization like color theme, wallpaper, lock screen settings, etc.  You can't change your profile picture nor sync your settings to an another device. There were some reports about sound settings limitations as well. It's not the best solution but still free.
What I noticed when I had to upgrade some laptops to windows 10 back in the day was that all the laptops after the upgrade had the same Windows license key. That was quite weird for me but I haven't checked it further.
1797  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Add more links to the MORE menu. on: February 12, 2020, 07:17:34 AM
This thread needs a bump.
C'mon theymos, isn't this a good idea? The community supports it (well part of the active members here, the others haven't really seen it yet but I'm sure they will be happy too if you make it happen) Smiley
Hope you can post a feedback and let us know what you think, when you have the time. I'll bump this one from time time Smiley
1798  Other / Meta / Re: Launch Possible of bitcointalk.org forum mobile application ? on: February 12, 2020, 06:58:19 AM
EpochTalk, which is Bitcointalk's future forum software, is already responsive(everything adjusts depending on screen size) by design so an application is pretty much almost unnecessary. You can help test out the software if you want: https://www.cryptos-currencies.com/boards ; the responsiveness works well on my end.

That's neat. I have one question though.

Is this the official development version or just a separate (prototype) entity? By the former, I mean that once the migration happens, the forum will move to the database we're testing on.

No, everyone is free to install and test it. The lulu's website is just the same as the > https://coinbistro.com/ website. Sure theymos sent some support for the developer but it's only a testing ground for the forum software. When one day (not in the near future) our forum migrates to the final Epochtalk it will be on this same domain as we have it now.
1799  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoinTalk can become the facebook of money on: February 12, 2020, 06:50:24 AM
Facebook is loosing grip the last few years. Many of my friends have deleted their profiles there, tired of all that crap happening. It used to be fun back in 2007, nowadays it's just a generator for faking you life. Some of the users get really addicted to this fake reality some just quit and move on. The saddest thing is that it reminds you for all those birthdays of your friends, makes you to post on their walls... so everyone "remembers" you on that day but don't give a sh!t during the whole year.. yea super cool... I used to remember all my friends birthdays, no need a reminder... not for me. I only follow the buy/sell groups.

So please, don't turn this wonderful forum in a soul-less bullshit reality.
If you wish only the popularity of facebook, that's should be the only similarity with Facebook.
1800  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] BPIP Extension - user info add-on / extension for Firefox, Chrome, et al on: February 11, 2020, 11:28:42 PM
Do you mind (i guess you don't but i have to ask) if I advertise the project in my personal text?
It is already quite known between the active users but maybe some newbies can also be interested in the full stats of the forum members.

I had the honor to advertise it when it first started and i like it so much that willing to do it again Smiley
