2781  Other / Meta / Re: New Forum Category for Cybersecurity? on: August 13, 2018, 06:57:04 PM
I think the topic of cybercrime still falls into the section of Trading Discussion as this section talks about the tips and tricks and dos and don'ts when it comes to transactions involving cryptocurrencies. The only problem with this section is a lot of topics are wrongly created as many members think that this is a section for "Trading" in terms of buying and selling or HODLING BTCs and Altcoins which they are incorrect (you can visit the section now and you will know what I mean) as they should have created it in the Speculation section which is a Childboard under Economics. If this is cleaned out and people will start using this section for what it really is, topics for cybercrime and security can be talk about mainly in this section.
2782  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why my post not activity still? on: August 13, 2018, 04:00:51 PM
i posted 59 but activity 42. why that? which i should to do now. please help me.
Looking at your post history I think You should stop worrying about your forum activity anymore and actually try to improve your post quality, it is actually more important now as your post contributions are more important than ever with the inclusion of the merit system as even if you have 1,000 activity and you have zero merits you will stay as a Jr. Member here in the forum forever. Actually try to read the OP as well as other posts from that thread before you even create your post, and as much as you can try to avoid megathreads (15+ pages) as you will most likely not contribute something new.
2783  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 13, 2018, 01:47:55 PM
Latest rumours/deals:

• Bakayoko (Chelsea) to AC Milan on loan.

• Kevin Gamero (Sevilla) to Valencia.

• Batshuayi (Chelsea) to Valencia on loan.

• Thilo Kehrer (Shalke 04) close to signing with PSG for €37m. That's a lot of money for a relitavely unknown player, but I guess Tuchel wanted him no matter what.

• Keita Baldé (AS Monaco) set to join Inter.

As a fan of AC Milan, I wish we grab some good striker finally after last season's big failure with Nikola Kalinić. I still hope we can get Morata or so, but let's see.
Milan have Higuian now so I don't think that they will be aiming to add another striker unless if it was someone to Replace Andre Silva who left to Sevilla on loan and I think it's impossible now to get Morata specially when the summer transfer window for Chelsea ended and they only have Giroud and Morata u can't rely on Giroud alone so they will definitely will not be selling since they cannot replace himif he leaves.

Rabiot is insisting on leaving the parisien club after he declined a contract renew and his deal will run out at the end of the season so it's possible to see him move in winter if no agreement was reached between the two and I don't think that PSG will sell him this summer because only Barcelona wants him and they do not want to deal with them anymore so they will wait to see in winter if any EPL team is interested in him.
They are actually trying to offload some of their strikers/forwards namely Carlos Bacca and the recently acquired Nikola Kalinić (which is now playing for Atletico Madrid) as they are trying to gain some money back from the transfers they did. With their loan contract of Higuain and an option to buy later it shows a big plus for their side as they also have acquired Caldara, Juventus really gave a lot of quality players in exchange for Bonucci returning home. The loan move has also been done to Bakayoko with an option to buy later. Now AC Milan's final move for this window is to try and sign a Center Midfield which I think they are currently targeting Milinković-Savić, but I know there are other targets such as Memphis Depay.

Things are looking good for AC Milan but I do hope that they get another owner aside from Elliot Fund, they do have a bad reputation for their company of buying and selling teams at a higher price, I just hope they make AC Milan worthy to become a contender in Champions League before they even try to sell them.
2784  Economy / Economics / Re: Housing market has hit a ‘significant slowdown’ in recent weeks, Redfin CEO says on: August 13, 2018, 10:36:55 AM
If you are looking for a decline in real estate value, I don't think it will happen soon as the article itself stated that the sold houses/property are still gaining value which means real estate properties are still a positive asset to own. The real estate market having a decline in sales means that they have exhausted most of the people who are wanting to have their own real estate property, we cannot assume that all people living in the US right now want to have their own house as they might be satisfied renting out an apartment or a condo unit to save as much income as they can.

Bolded: unlike crypto markets, the price of real estate isn't determined by the price people are willing to pay for it. The price of real estate can increase while sales diminish.
That is what I am trying to point out, because your earlier post :
For those thinking of buying real estate, it could be worth waiting awhile if a negative market correction occurs.
Says otherwise of what you are trying to say now. Even if the buyers will wait and hold their money for awhile I don't think they will have a better deal if they do so as Real Estate properties are still increasing in terms of value.

~snip~

Au contraire. I believe there could be a market for crypto based financing. The rationale for it revolves around efficiency. It could cost upwards of 3% to 5% or higher to convert a crypto currency like bitcoin to fiat. Think of the price of a house which can easily reach $200,000. Converting crypto to $200,000 in fiat could cost more than $10,000 in conversion fees, without counting taxes and other costs.

There are consumers who could look at those prohibitive costs and simply refuse to pay them.

However if real estate were denominated explicitly in crypto and consumers could purchase real estate without paying 3% to 5% or higher in currency conversion, they might be willing to buy.

Crypto based financing would be more affordable and more appealing and it would be more likely to boost sales in real estate markets in comparison to current alternatives.
Let say that you get the whole 200,000$ in the value of cryptocurrencies, why would the buyer still go in that option? What will be the advantage for this people opting to choose cryptocurrency based financing over the traditional banking based financing? I don't think it would be more affordable to the person buying as they still need to be financially capable of paying back those loans, or else they can be screwed over by choosing the more affordable option.
2785  Economy / Economics / Re: Housing market has hit a ‘significant slowdown’ in recent weeks, Redfin CEO says on: August 13, 2018, 09:11:42 AM
Quote
Redfin stock dives after top exec says sudden downfall is expected to continue in August and September
Both existing-home sales and new-home sales declined in June, but price gains on the homes that did sell actually accelerated, according to CoreLogic’s Home Price Index for June, which was released earlier this week. Other trackers like the S&P/Case-Shiller national index show decelerating price increases, but were still reflecting double-digit price increases in the San Francisco and Seattle areas. Pending-home sales were also lower than the previous year in June, according to the National Association of Realtors, the sixth consecutive month that metric trailed the previous year.

....

This could signal a long term decline for sales in real estate markets.

For those thinking of buying real estate, it could be worth waiting awhile if a negative market correction occurs.

Real estate sellers could adopt crypto currency based financing sooner than expected if they become desperate for sales.

Its long been known that fewer consumers are able to afford real estate as wage growth fails to match inflation. This was offset to a degree by real estate development and new home construction failing to keep up with population growth, which in turn made living space a scarce commodity. Foreign investment also provided a boost to real estate sales with many foreign nationals desiring legal immigration into the USA.

Is this a significant slowdown which will have long term negative impacts on the value of real estate in the USA?

Or is it merely a cyclical phase which will be replaced by price growth at a later date?

What do people think about this?
If you are looking for a decline in real estate value, I don't think it will happen soon as the article itself stated that the sold houses/property are still gaining value which means real estate properties are still a positive asset to own. The real estate market having a decline in sales means that they have exhausted most of the people who are wanting to have their own real estate property, we cannot assume that all people living in the US right now want to have their own house as they might be satisfied renting out an apartment or a condo unit to save as much income as they can.

Also I don't think cryptocurrency based financing could be a solution for their problem, because most of the debtors who are availing that kind of loans are also liquidating it back to Fiat. Maybe some of their sold properties might be already bought in this kind of financing and they just don't know about it yet. Also to top it off they must be qualified or in other words financially capable of paying back that loans first before availing that kind of financing solution.
2786  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Updates on Mobile Lightning Wallets on: August 12, 2018, 02:59:59 PM
This still not answer my question, because Copy & Pasting a article and then changing the output/Url is even more dangerous. How do we verify the original source code for these wallets?

I know some of them is available on Github, but do we know which of these are safe to use? We know the Bitcoin Core code is safe, because it is backed up with a signature to verify it's authenticity and we know where it is made available.

I would not trust any of these wallets with large amounts of coins, until we can verify that they are safe to use.
Isn't it enough verification if the github source code links came directly from their website? If you visit some of the wallets' official website (SwiftLightning, Rawtx, Lightning-wallet) You will see that they posted their github links directly to their website. Or are we still in the assumption that even their website is compromised by other people? Then if that is the case maybe implementing what Bitcoin Core is doing is a good way of giving assurance.
2787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins Dominance is now above 50% again on: August 12, 2018, 09:57:02 AM
A lot of people have seen BTC as a temporary safe haven during this bear market and there is no doubt that a lot of people holding other cryptocurrencie aside Bitcoin had dropped them by now and seek refuge with BTC, this move is really a win-win scenario for investors as while BTC is helping them maintain the value of their money the margin also of it from other cryptocurrencies is getting bigger (price decrease of other cryptocurrencies is bigger) which means that anytime they bought back their old cryptocurrency holdings they will obtain more of it because of the cheaper price.
2788  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: AML compliance challenges by FinCEN on: August 11, 2018, 12:16:18 PM
They are just doing their part for the government, what do you expect? That FinCEN, IRS, and even the SEC to look the other way around when the cryptocurrency market becomes a breeding ground for criminals laundering money and evading taxes? I don't think so regulation does not mean bad news for cryptocurrency we are not in the world living where the government is looking at Bitcoin the bad way they instead looking at it as something we need to adapt with, let us not get the wrong impression that they are out here to shutdown the cryptocurrency market for good.
2789  Other / Meta / Re: Why do I have to beg to get my account back? on: August 11, 2018, 08:28:57 AM
Here are my sources...
Give me a few minutes and I will find the PM someone received from theymos where he says that he is developing a system to automatically prove you own an account with your staked address.
IIRC, the PM was from ~1 month ago and theymos said that he would try to code it in a few weeks. So it should be out soon. So it will definitely be available in the current forum software (SMF), and not only when the new software comes out.
You realize a number of eye balls are looking at you now?(!)  Smiley
Just to help and post the reference "TryNinja" was looking for (in case he/she had difficulty in finding it):

If you have not posted that addy elsewhere, it probably won't be accepted.

We don't actually accept the profile field address unless there's some sort of proof that it's remained unchanged, for that very reason.

I'm working on a new address-staking system which will automatically handle signatures, etc. Might have it ready by the end of the month if nothing else comes up to consume my time.
Do you have any updates about this one? Because it has been almost two months now and we haven't heard any official announcements from theymos about it yet (he didn't even made it official with a thread announcement). Coming from a private message from KWH it looks like theymos wants the development of this system on closed doors meaning the implementation of this new system might not be final yet as coming from his private message he might be busy as the news system implementation is already one month behind schedule.
2790  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tutorials for beginners on: August 10, 2018, 07:19:53 PM
Your post just looks like a lame attempt on receiving merits, your guide needs a lot of polishing and more in depth explanation as you are mainly creating a topic for beginners which needs to be in depth as it serves as an introductory guide for them, to give you an idea the part of your post about "types of wallets"
At present, there are many types of wallets dedicated to providing Bitcoin addressing such as:
   + Coinbase
   + Blockchain.info
   + Ledger Nano S
   + Trezor
And these wallets are also the safest and most trusted Bitcoin store to date.
is completely wrong, you didn't even mention what types of wallets (e.g. Desktop Wallet, Paper Wallet, and Hardware Wallet) they are, because they are just names of wallets (and even brands of hardware wallets) and cannot be considered as a type itself.  If you really want to help newbies on creating a good guide on a general introduction to Bitcoin look at what Lauda has already created which is a more in-depth one on about the types of wallets which you have also discussed.
2791  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-09] Philippines Building Crypto Valley of Asia on: August 10, 2018, 06:37:46 PM
Venture capitalist has been coming in the Philippines as long as I can remember usually US and Japanese manufacturing firms. Yeah, cheap labor and the ability to speak English is one factor that brought a lot of businesses in the country. However, the economy has been like a sinking ship because of corruption and bickering amongst government officials. I like though the way the country welcomes crypto in the last couple of years. That's why my only concern is that maybe the next administration would change its stance and suddenly because hostile.
You hit the right point bro, to tell you frankly our economy should be booming in Asia if we only elect the right officials especially the ones who are handling the executive and legislative departments as they are the ones who can control and steer the country in the right direction. The main problem I see is most of our fellow citizens don't have the ability to vote the right individuals to the proper position. They always go to the most popular or the person who is winning the polls, when they should be voting the most qualified one instead. This is another problem we are seeing as most of the people who are voting the wrong person are lacking the right education and that is why they can't properly choose the right candidate.
2792  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does the 2017 crash “feel” different than the 2014 crash? on: August 09, 2018, 07:23:30 PM
I won't be technical with my explanation but the drop in 2014 is way different then what we have now. With the recent price correction we have from our ATH Bitcoin definitely gained a lot of attention not only from the media but also from normal people entering the market, and just like you said even your friends have bought Bitcoin during the recent rally. Now the drop contained a lot of whales cashing out and of course the new players cutting losses and with several lower highs later and a lot of people selling again and again we have reached to a destination on where we are now.

But the difference with this drop is aside from the media and the average people, the governments of countries also have gained attention on cryptocurrencies on the possibility of making it work together with their country, we saw it first in Japan and Korea and a lot of countries are following their footsteps. Now if the government is until now trying to work things out with cryptocurrencies what made you think that BTC won't recover this time? The key is if the government will play it right on making cryptocurrencies work with their country (several of them) we might see that this market will start to recover soon.
2793  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-09] Philippines Building Crypto Valley of Asia on: August 09, 2018, 05:45:31 PM
Is the Philippines becoming like China? I don't mean it in a bad way but I think a lot of foreign companies are eyeing Philippines as their new venture to expand their businesses as we have Economic Zones and most importantly cheaper labor. Just like China a lot of foreign companies have manufacturing plants in their because of their cheap labor, even though they have cheap labor it is still also helping their unemployment rate to decrease as well as these companies are paying up their taxes regularly. Not only crypto-related companies are entering into the Philippine market, recently a Taiwanese based company named Cal-comp has provided 10,000 jobs (and counting) to Filipinos and is planning to launch an IPO locally to boost their funds for expansion within the Philippines, good to see news like this about improving the economy of the Philippines.
2794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: First BitCoin transaction on: August 09, 2018, 07:55:55 AM
Any updates on your current situation hollipharm? Have you received the Bitcoin you have purchased? Maybe you are just overthinking as it is your first time buying BTC and you can always double check and confirm when a payment is incoming in the blockchain website what you just have to do is to put the wallet address you use here, https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/COPYandPASTEyourAddressHere. In here you will see your latest transaction and how many confirmations it have, also most wallets needs about 4-6 confirmations before it reflects in your wallet account.

Edit :
Oops my bad, I probably didn't notice the second post. And @bob123 he might not be able to lock the thread as his last active date was on the day he opened this thread. He probably just created an account to ask about his concern.
2795  Other / Meta / Re: At what point should we report a megathread for closure? on: August 08, 2018, 02:33:50 PM
Remembered a similar topic I have read a few months ago where the OP asked a question that might help you :
I've noticed that mods have recently started locking such threads, or even threads with the potential of becoming one. It'd be interesting to see if there are any guidelines mods follow for locking such threads nevertheless.

And I think (he never really quoted the OP) this is what hilarious replied :
Probably depends on the mod, but I usually trash utter shit threads with little to no value, whereas ones that have just degenerated into spam that may have some half decent posts I usually lock. Sometimes a thread can start of decent but shitposters don't actually read the op and just the title and it quickly turns into a spam mega thread which will never recover.

It will still be subjective per mod who is viewing the megathread and it will always boil down to their own opinion as there are no guidelines for megathreads that are worth locking/reporting based on how I understand hilarious' reply. So you are basically alway putting some risk that your report gets denied when you are reporting a megathread.
2796  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Monero mining in browser on: August 08, 2018, 07:49:09 AM
From a legal point of view I don't see how Coinhive or the owner of the website is asking a permission first to use the CPU's power of the site's visitors. Therefore some have concluded with these kinds of javascript plug-ins where using your site visitors Desktop's CPU for mining without permission is called "cryptojacking" and a lot of people are not aware that these kinds of thing is happening, just take a look at this Reddit post on how he came across that the UFC's webpage is using their viewers' mining power unknowingly. First of all they just intend to visit the website, they didn't give you permission to use their CPU to mine Monero for you to earn, they are obviously using much more power compared to what is intended for browsing. I cannot pinpoint the exact violation but you are definitely violating a law related to improper use of a private property of another without permission.

If I were you I will just stick to advertisements being shown in your website for monetization rather than using these kinds of plugins that intend to use others' desktops for mining, some might actually file a case against you for a recovery of property, and when your visitors band together you are really in big trouble.
2797  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Report: India showing signs it may legalize cryptocurrency payments on: August 07, 2018, 06:02:51 PM
By all means this is a big decision for the legislative department of India, recognizing cryptocurrency payments will be the end of these court hearings as well as bank prohibitions given by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with its powers of giving stupid memorandums. Honestly it is such a stupid memorandum to make as they still allow cryptocurrency trading in India while they prohibit direct online bank deposits coming from crypto exchanges, they are obviously giving an inconvenience to a majority of the traders and local exchanges.

If both the RBI and their SC cannot be relied on when it comes to handling cryptocurrency in India their legislative department must act now by creating their own law about cryptocurrencies, they are greatly missing the opportunity to benefit from the potential earnings they will receive from tax payments, ICO sales, and as well as potential blockchain related companies venturing into their country. It is just simply looking how the Pros outweighs the Cons in this scenario.
2798  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why not use mBTC more or smaller units? on: August 07, 2018, 06:20:38 AM
The general population would rather deal with a currency that is somewhat close to the USD or Euro value.  Why are we still talking in terms of 0.000653 btc when we should be using mbtc more and eventually talking in satoshi once bitcoin reaches 500k levels.

This is why Satoshi gave bitcoin so many decimal places.
With the example you have given we are still in the position of using decimal places as .000653 BTC is equal to 0.653 mBTC, it really does not come any close to the dollar value you are hoping since 1 mBTC is equal to .001 BTC or 1/1000 of a Bitcoin. I also don't think that coming close to the Dollar or Euro value is a prevalent problem here for the general population as switching back and forth from BTC, mBTC, or even uBTC will be a much more greater problem as what BTCforJoe mentioned it will cause a lot of confusion when it comes to payments for them. BTC is still new and a lot of newbies don't know the other two denominations I have mentioned.

Sticking up to the BTC value which has 8 decimal places is what a lot of people are used to, I was confused at first but then I tried reading the values from the start of the number after all the zeroes and thinking it as a whole number at that point on reading BTC values was an easy thing for me to do. Also in my own opinion this is not our problem to solve, if this became an issue the government could easily set a standard on what denomination will their country use when it comes to cryptocurrency payments and the transition will be easy if that happens.
2799  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-04] UBS: Bitcoin Can Replace Fiat Money When It Hits $213,000 on: August 05, 2018, 06:12:45 PM
Tried reading the article in Bitcoinist which you have provided in your post, luckily Bitcoinist had linked the original article (rare for a news grabber/recycler to do) posted under Bloomberg.com. And as always this unreliable news source have cut the content of the original article yet again stating only that Bitcoin needs to go up on this certain value ($213,000) before it replace the US Dollar. Bloomberg has stated on the other hand that :
Quote
UBS says they may have to wait a while since it can’t be considered money or even a viable asset class yet. For Bitcoin to replace U.S. money supply -- paper bills, coins, travelers’ checks and the like -- its price could need to hit nearly $213,000, or its network’s processing capabilities would need to dramatically improve, a new report by UBS found
Which is pretty far from what Bitcoinist have just provided in their news article as they focused more on the price aspect and has not provided the other ways where BTC can be a viable mode of payment in the future. On the original news article it is said that UBS have also provided that Bitcoin needs to improve their network's processing capabilities as it is still a "fraction of the payment volume that companies like Visa Inc. handle" if we ever want to see BTC replace the USD.
2800  Economy / Services / Re: [2 OPEN SLOTS] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: August 05, 2018, 05:45:12 AM

Still one slot. Currently deciding between these users, but it's a really tough choice (more applications are welcome until I decide later today):

Code:
cissrawk
Steamtyme
Lucius
guybrushthreepwood
Theb
mindrust
ranochigo
Silent26
squatz1
Thekool1s

Everyone else is denied.
Why not make your pick from these selected few since the selection was made only recently.
I think DarkStar_ is not limiting his option for the available spot/s on people he previously considered for the campaign as there is also no waitlist system for the campaign. Also he already have clarified it in one of his previous post that we still need to reapply if we still intend to join the campaign.

I'm sorry to those who didn't make it, but unfortunately I do not have unlimited slots. If anyone wants to know why they weren't accepted, feel free to send me a PM and I'll try to respond. I expect there may be more slots very soon as there's a few people I'm contemplating removing. If you were on my list, I'd be happy if you reapplied  Cheesy
