281  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Market Manipulation on: May 17, 2018, 03:53:59 PM
The largest use case for bitcoin, is now, and has always been speculation. Markets that primarily revolve and exist around speculation are always massively manipulated. Bitcoin’s value isn’t based on purchasing power or a vibrant mercantile economy. Anyone that tells you that’s true has their head squarely shoved up their ass.

The truth is, trading bots can take the public information about where all the trade orders are standing above and below the markets, and they can precisely calculate how much money is needed to push the market just far enough to cause these standing orders to get executed and then they calculate exactly how much money is required to push the market just far enough the other direction to cause the next wave of orders to get hit. Knowing the range and depth where orders are placed, trading bots intentionally soak huge profits from small price moves because they activate thousands of small orders that are placed by naive, inexperienced small traders.

Everyone using this forum has heard of trading whales. These are not evil sinister individuals hell bent on the destruction of all that you hold dear. They are corporations, coops, and major investors (like the winklevoss twins) that are holding massive amounts of btc. If these people choose to trade btc “on-book” they are going to cause massive price swings and manipulate the market.

So, is there market manipulation? Of course there is!

Is it evil and destructive for bitcoin? It makes no sense for the major players to hurt bitcoin. They stand to lose a hell of a lot more than you and I do by over manipulation of the market. That’s why many huge exchanges of bitcoin happen “off-book”.

283  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Who at the dod investigate the fbi for treason risks? on: May 16, 2018, 09:13:50 PM
The House of Representatives judiciary committee oversees the FBI. In other words, the people of the United States oversee the FBI through elected representatives. It’s way more transparent than most people think it is.

The FBI has a total of 35,344 employees. This total includes 13,598 special agents and 21,746 support professionals. Do you actually believe the FBI could be under the control of another government or entity without any one of the 35k employees telling The House judiciary committee there’s a problem? No chance.
284  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The decline of forums on: May 16, 2018, 03:59:03 PM
Spam may be the cause of forum decline but it’s very likely that the forums life has just run its course. There may simply be nothing new to add to a discussion. It’s all been said, done and tried before.

Although some subjects have been discussed to the death and shouldn't be addressed any further. I don't agree that there's nothing else to discuss even things related to Bitcoin. There's always ongoing developments with Bitcoin whether that's market related, adoption or software related questions.

It's only fair to assume that people will continue asking questions about software even if it's been asked before because they want an up to date answer. If they look at older threads about their problems and the solution is still the solution they can still ask the question because it might bring up new information. For example: Bitcoin wallet corrupted and the solution was to use pywallet but maybe now there's a solution built into the bitcoin software to fix it rather than using a third party tool. Of course this is all made up to further my point but I think you get the idea from that example.

Then there's adoption. There's always something to be said when a new company has started trading in Bitcoin. You'll get the generic replies such as: "This is great for Bitcoin and it will boom because of this" but you'll also see some good replies that outline why this is a bad idea for Bitcoin; For example; x company may have adopted Bitcoin but they have been involved in shady business before"

There should always be enough recurrent news to be able to formulate a unique opinion/reply on the subject. I don't agree at all that everything that's worth saying has been said already. If this was the attitude of people in every day life we would never see progression in medical discoveries or technology.

I see the frustration of the forum and it's one of the reasons why I only post in certain sub forums and signature campaigns aren't helping the longevity of the forum or it's view ability. But there's ways of dealing with this whether that's restrictions or boycotting signature campaigns.

I've also been a member on several different forums in the past and I wouldn't say Bitcoin is any different other than it pays for posting. If this was removed it would show the general decline of other forums. Also the forum is subject to more spam some months due to the news brought about by Bitcoin. If we see a massive increase/decrease of the price then there's going to be a new influx of people coming and spamming it up either with panic or intrigue because the price shot up. Many forums aren't subject to this sort of thing.

I think you misunderstood my response. Of course, discussions about advances in ANY technology will need to continue until that technology is completely dead. That discussion and brainstorming will happen within and between the businesses and developer employees of those businesses.

Average Joe T. Idiot doesn’t have anything useful to add to those discussions. It’s not necessary to have those discussions on a public forum. Everything the average Joe can add that’s even moderately useful has been said, done and tried before.

How many people currently visiting this forum actually go to developer conferences around the world, attended the last major mining conference in China, or can even tell you in what country the next conference will take place? I suspect not many, if any at all. Real discussions are happening elsewhere. If you want to see a discussion take place in real time try IRC. If you what to know what’s happening in bitcoin or contribute to development in a meaning way try GitHub.

This forum was a valuable asset necessary to springboard bitcoin into the public consciousness. You needed everyone, regardless of technical expertise, to discuss bitcoin and recognize its value. That’s not the case anymore. There’s more than 100 sites that can teach you how bitcoin works. Bitcoin is in the mainstream media almost every day.

It’s good that this forum is now unnecessary to teach the finer points of using bitcoin because 99 out of 100 people I talk to here don’t understand how it works anyway and couldn’t help anyone if their life depended on it. The Stephen Gornick’s, Gavin Andresen’s and DeathNTaxes that would belabor bitcoin discussions until everyone understood are gone now. But that’s ok because they’re unnecessary today.

288  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: May 14, 2018, 10:56:36 PM
You don’t need merit to learn about cryptocurrency on this forum. You don’t need merit to do anything of value on this forum. You need merit to destroy this forum, and Facebook, and Twitter and anywhere else you can bomb advertise ICO’s and shitcoins.

While I do agree with the first sentence of that statement, it seems to me the second is a bit extreme. I mean, if merit is needed to destroy the forum, why do we even give it to people and help them destroy the forum? This seems to go against the very purpose of your thread, doesn't it? I'm a bit puzzled so I'm genuinely asking.

You don’t need merit to do anything here except make money. Hell, there was no merit a year ago and people were using the forum just fine without it. If you read through the OP would have seen that I felt sorry for the genuinely decent posters that were already a higher rank and were screwed over by the merit system. I’m only helping them. I don’t even respond to anyone below Full Member anymore. 99% of the new members are only here to spam one liners for cash. I don’t help them at all.

290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MILLENNIALS ARE BUYING CRYPTOCURRENCIES TO SAVE FOR RETIREMENT! on: May 12, 2018, 07:10:17 PM
Interesting, I never thought of millennials as being that stupid. Maybe that’s why most of them live at home with their parents until they’re in their 30’s.

Bitcoin is the most stable and secure coin and even it is too new and volatile to be used as a retirement vehicle. Other cryptocurrencies might not even survive to the end of this decade much less to the retirement age for millennials. Scary to think we might have an entire generation of people that have no retirement and will need to milk the government teat to survive.

295  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The decline of forums on: May 11, 2018, 04:31:34 PM
I don’t see forums in general being as popular as they were. I started communicating with the larger world many decades ago on bbs sites and webrings. Then those faded from popularity and I moved to Usenet newsgroups. From there I moved to IRC which was way cool because it was fast communication. That lead me to Internet forums and I’m just about done with those. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and others are eliminating the need for forums. Tomorrow maybe we’ll all be linked together with some perverted version of google glass that allows us to blink and link minds, who knows.

Spam may be the cause of forum decline but it’s very likely that the forums life has just run its course. There may simply be nothing new to add to a discussion. It’s all been said, done and tried before.

That doesn’t mean anything. The exchange rate can climb by $20k in a few days. It depends on who’s buying it and how much their buying.
297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: @RogerVer lets make a deal. At least 60k, my BTU for your BTC. on: May 10, 2018, 11:43:10 PM
Someone want change 27 BTU for BTC please PM me, only serious offers thanks.  Grin

Is BTU still a thing? Last I heard it had mutated to become just another bcash client and no longer aims to make its own hard fork(s).

BCH, BTU, Bitcash Coin, Bcash and whatever else it is called. Ver lined his already lined up pockets even more when he and his associates created Bitcoin cash.

According to Ver and the couple of whale that helped created Bitcoin Cash it is the "real" Bitcoin. This was what Roger Ver did when the the interviewer called his fork "Bcash".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCOjCEth6xI

Just to make it clear, Bitcoin is Bitcoin. Everything else is a fork or derivative of Bitcoin

Bitcoin Atom is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Cash is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Dark is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Diamond is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Fast is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin God is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Gold is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Green is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Interest is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Planet is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Plus is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Private is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Scrypt is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin X is not Bitcoin
Bitcoin Z is not Bitcoin

Ver is just one of the initial scam artist club of bitcoin power players from the early years. He and everything he does should just be ignored. You shouldn’t listen to anyone that was a founding member of the Bitcoin Foundation, Ver, Erik Voorhees, James McCarthy and so on. Honestly, would you take investing advice from Danny Brewster of Neo & Bee or Colin Armitt of CryptoXchange? Of course not. So why would anyone listen to anything Ver has to say?
298  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: May 10, 2018, 02:31:25 PM
I just know that there is a forum that discusses the rise in rankings, especially merit that really be a solution to reduce spammers in this forum. I also want to contribute in this matter so that we can all achieve success together.

The merit system should reduce the number of leeches that only post here to gain rank so they can make more money. They could care less about cryptocurrency and post complete shit in every thread. Their posts include no discussion, no involvement, no intelligence, no forethought, no benefit to anyone and often don’t even address the topic being discussed. They simply spread visual diarrhea all over the forum to such an extreme extent that almost everyone that previously made this forum a great brainstorming tool for cryptocurrency is now gone.

Pay particular attention to the first sentence in the paragraph above. They only want to make money. Money to them is their local fiat. They are using shitcoins and bitcoins as a way to get fiat. That is completely contrary to the goals and purpose of this forum.

You say you want to help “all achieve success together”. There is no success if any of these leeches gain rank. In fact, that’s the opposite of success, that’s complete failure. They promote everything that is destroying the forum and the validity of bitcoin for a fiat reward.

Gaining merit does not equal success. You don’t need merit to learn about cryptocurrency on this forum. You don’t need merit to do anything of value on this forum. You need merit to destroy this forum, and Facebook, and Twitter and anywhere else you can bomb advertise ICO’s and shitcoins.

"I have given away more bitcoin than you will likely earn while on this forum."

To have that status of I guess being an early Bitcoin adopter just sounds ultra comfortable with zero frustration. Compared to being newer and trying to figure out how to get a fraction of one. Feeling humbled.

More importantly is the concept that I can’t be corrupted. There is nothing anyone could offer me to entice me to sell them merit. I had money when I came to this forum and started playing with bitcoin, being an early adopter has nothing to do with it. In fact, I started playing with bitcoin because I’m retired and bored, not because I was looking for a way to get rich.

That’s the real plague currently destroying this forum. Everyone using this forum now just wants to make a quick buck and couldn’t give a shit about any cryptocurrency. They could care less that bitcoin has the potential to return power to the people by giving them control over their money. They don’t care that fractional reserve banking is destroying the world economy and oppressing 99% of world citizens.

Here’s how you get a “fraction of one” = get a job and buy it! Help create something that this community values and sell it. Start buying the things that you need with bitcoin and taking bitcoin in trade for things you sell. Don’t pollute the value of bitcoin by diluting the idea of cryptocurrency (that means stop trading and buying shitcoins only because you can earn a six pack of beer a week doing it).

I understand your point and what you were trying to say. I don't think my post really expressed my point though. Money wise I'm ok, I'm probably coming into this in a different way than those that just want to get rich for doing nothing. What I really meant about trying to figure how to get a fraction is really just understanding every subtlety about the market in a deep level, understanding what I currently do not understand. Understand it to the level where I would be less prone to mistakes. Though I'm doing fine, I do not have the type of money where I can experiment and learn, and so the stress level is higher because mistakes can hurt deeply. That's why I imagined such comfort when I read that you were here in the early days.

You in your position, having a lot of merit, and not really having to worry about bitcoin, you have the comfort to offer merit points and experiment like that. So that's an example of having the comfort to experiment.

I understand. Being comfortable (having plenty of what you need or want) gives you freedom. I suppose that’s true but having plenty of merit doesn’t do that for me.

Merit only equates to money if you are using this forum as an income stream. Merit is useless if you’re here to discuss something and have real conversations. You only need merit to gain rank.

You don’t need rank to talk. You don’t need rank to learn. You don’t need rank to teach. You can be a newbie and do all of that.

You need rank to make more sig money. You need rank to make people trust you so you can scam them. You need rank to convince people that you’re someone special even when you’re not.

Chances are if someone wants merit and higher rank then they are probably someone that shouldn’t be here. If you don’t chase merit and rank but instead use the forum to learn and grow you will gain rank and get merit.
