Just a reminder, if you want to dump on Bittrex - there's an Auto sell option available ('Lab' tab) that sells BCC for BTC as soon as there's available balance. This can save you a lot of time manually checking whether your BCC deposit finally got required 20 confirms.

Got email from Coinbase, they'll be crediting and supporting Bitcoin Cash after all:

Quote
Dear Coinbase customer,

We wanted to give our customers an update on the recent Bitcoin hard fork. You can read more about what a digital currency fork is here:

https://blog.coinbase.com/what-is-a-bitcoin-fork-cba07fe73ef1

Forks enable innovation and improvements to digital currency and we believe that we will see an increasing number of forks in the future. We expect this to be a vibrant and innovative community.

When a digital currency forks, it creates a new digital asset. Adding new digital assets to Coinbase must be approached with caution. Not every asset is immediately safe to add to Coinbase from a technical stability, security, or compliance point of view.

Our top priority is the safety of customer funds and we spend extensive time designing, building, testing and auditing our systems to ensure that the digital asset we support remains safe and secure. We may not always be first in adding an asset, but if we do, you can be sure that we’ve invested significant time and care into supporting it securely. We believe this is the best approach for us to maintain customer trust.

In the case of bitcoin cash, we made clear to our customers that we did not feel we could safely support it on the day it was launched. For customers who wanted immediate access to their bitcoin cash, we advised them to withdraw their bitcoin from the Coinbase platform. However, there are several points we want to make clear for our customers:

1.Both bitcoin and bitcoin cash remain safely stored on Coinbase.

2.Customers with balances of bitcoin at the time of the fork now have an equal quantity of bitcoin cash stored by Coinbase.

3.We operate by the general principle that our customers should benefit to the greatest extent possible from hard forks or other unexpected events.

Over the last several days, we’ve examined all of the relevant issues and have decided to work on adding support for bitcoin cash for Coinbase customers. We made this decision based on factors such as the security of the network, customer demand, trading volumes, and regulatory considerations.

We are planning to have support for bitcoin cash by January 1, 2018, assuming no additional risks emerge during that time.

Once supported, customers will be able to withdraw bitcoin cash. We'll make a determination at a later date about adding trading support. In the meantime, customer bitcoin cash will remain safely stored on Coinbase.

Thank you,

Coinbase Team

What kind of trolling effort is this?  Do you need a hand doing your own blockchain research?  Hold my pocket if you want me to walk you through it.

Yes please. Walk me through it. Patiently waiting.

This is one of polo's BTC wallets:

This is one of polo's ETH wallets:

No, these guys are not insolvent.
...

Great, now post the total customers' balance info, otherwise the above amounts are useless for determining solvency.

Excited to see BCH (BitcoinCash) listed ASAP Smiley

Ready to do some trading! I'll bring the volume Polo ---- Let's get it going!

Please don't take too long..... Don't want to see excitement turn to sadness.

Don't hold your breath for it.
If they were to list BCH, people would expect to get their share distributed to them and I don't think Polo is keen to do that.

The point is you deposit 10 BCH for 1 BTC then withdraw the 1 BTC then the rogue miner makes the chain invalid and the exchange looses both the 1BTC you withdrew plus the 10BCH you deposited that has just been made invalid by a rogue miner or ~$3000

The exchange loses nothing + gain exchange fees.

It's the buyer and other BCH holders who would lose money if that happened.

ALERT:We have made updates to the Poloniex Terms of Use. These changes are effective immediately and apply to all Poloniex users. We encourage you to review our Terms and familiarize yourself with the changes that have been made. If you do not agree to any of these changes, you may contact support and request an account closure.

anybody know what changed?  they don't seem to say what changed.. just that something changed.

Not sure, but the description at the top says:

Quote
THESE TERMS OF USE CONTAIN A BINDING ARBITRATION CLAUSE AND CLASS ACTION WAIVER THAT IMPACT YOUR RIGHTS ABOUT HOW TO RESOLVE DISPUTES. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY.

So it could be the para 23:

Quote
23. ARBITRATION

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY – IT MAY SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING YOUR RIGHT TO FILE A LAWSUIT IN COURT AND TO HAVE A JURY HEAR YOUR CLAIMS.

To expedite and control the cost of disputes, you and we agree that any legal or equitable claim arising out of or relating to your use of the Services or these Terms, including the formation, validity, enforceability, scope, or applicability of these Terms, including this Section 23 (referred to as a “Claim”) will be resolved as follows: except for claims for injunctive or equitable relief or claims regarding intellectual property rights (which may be brought in any competent court without the posting of a bond), any dispute arising under your use of the Services shall be finally settled on an individual basis through confidential, binding arbitration in accordance with the American Arbitration Association's rules for arbitration of consumer-related disputes, available at www.adr.org or by calling 1-800-778-7879, and you and Poloniex hereby expressly waive trial by jury. This means that all claims other than intellectual property lawsuits, such as copyright or trademark infringement lawsuits, or claims seeking non-monetary relief would be subject to binding arbitration. This includes claims which may pre-date this agreement. The arbitration shall take place in Boston, Massachusetts, in the English language and the arbitral decision may be enforced in any court. At your request, hearings may be conducted in person or by telephone and the arbitrator may provide for submitting and determining motions on briefs, without oral hearings. Payment of all filing, administration and arbitrator fees will be governed by the AAA’s rules. The prevailing party in any action or proceeding to enforce this agreement shall be entitled to costs and attorneys' fees.

To begin an arbitration proceeding, you must send a letter by mail requesting arbitration and describing your claim to our counsel:

Poloniex, Inc. c/o Cooley LLP
 500 Boylston St
 Boston, MA 02116
 Attn: Poloniex Arbitration Requests

ADDITIONALLY, YOU HEREBY WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OR CLASS-WIDE ARBITRATION. We each agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated or representative action. If for any reason a claim proceeds in court rather than in arbitration, we each waive any right to a jury trial. If a court or federal regulator with oversight over Poloniex decides that applicable law precludes enforcement of any of this section’s limitations as to a particular claim for relief, then that claim (and only that claim) must be severed from the arbitration and may be brought in court, subject to your and Poloniex's right to appeal the court's decision. All other claims will be arbitrated.

This looks sketchy as hell, but to my understanding, it's a rather standard clause. The question is why would they add such clause now, seems bit odd that they would decide to tidy-up the T&C wording for no real reason, especially when they got shortage of resources and backlog of outstanding tickets.
2810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Pro on-chain scaling on: July 31, 2017, 10:11:20 PM
Yobit already distributed BCC tokens. Many have already sold them and have a second chance to get on another exchange.

That makes no sense to me. Yobit must have somehow locked the btc or prevent withdrawals, otherwise they'll end up insolvent.

My loans won't cancel, even though they are past their expiry date. Anyone else have this problem?

Are you sure it's not just a case of different time zone? Your local time could be different than the Polo's (date/time of when loan was provided is shown in their local time afaik).
2812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Cash - hold or dump? on: July 31, 2017, 04:03:51 PM
...

Lets all dump BCC after we got a free dollars from it. BCC will never have a success its just like the "hardfork" of roger ver. where in fact it is just a failure. all fuds must be cleared tomorrow.

The problem is most would want to maximise their gains from free BCC (or 'BCH'?), dumping together with everyone else makes little sense. To get the most of it, it's best to either be among the first dumpers (sell high), or just hold and wait it out, hoping the price will recover. You risk nothing after all, selling low say at ~$10 or below makes sense as sending a political message but would be rather stupid from economical point of view.
2813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Bitcoin Cash - hold or dump? on: July 31, 2017, 03:16:47 PM

Quick poll just to check what's the forum members sentiment towards Bitcoin Cash and how will it impact the BTC price (therefore - yes, it's bitcoin related).

Changing votes allowed.
2814  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gambling Investments on: July 31, 2017, 03:01:15 PM
You won't get BCC if you have BTC in exchanges/casinos, or will you?

Many exchanges declared that they will distribute BCC to their customers, but in terms of gambling sites - that's unlikely to happen. Then again, if you hold significant balance, you could get in touch with site operator and ask them nicely whether you could get your share of BCC, if they value you as an investor/user, then there's a big chance you'll get paid.
2815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: newbie question regarding Bitcoin split on: July 31, 2017, 01:30:04 PM
Question, tell me please if there will be bitcoin split for example is the difficulty of the mining should be changed?
part of difficulty is based on how much hashrate is mining bitcoin or in other words how many miners.
if it splits and the splitted chain (BCC in this case) will obviously won't have enough miners on it. the difficulty will stay the same at first but after reaching the difficulty adjustment block (which is every 2016 block) it will be readjusted) and comes down.
...

BCC's difficulty will be adjusted quicker:

Quote
Forking rule:
“REQ-7 Difficulty adjustement in case of hashrate drop

In case the MTP of the tip of the chain is 12h or more after the MTP 6 block before the tip, the proof of work target is increased by a quarter, or 25%, which corresponds to a difficulty reduction of 20% .

RATIONALE: The hashrate supporting the chain is dependent on market price and hard to predict. In order to make sure the chain remains viable no matter what difficulty needs to adjust down in case of abrupt hashrate drop.”
2816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: July 31, 2017, 10:01:39 AM

Why the only reason ?

The simplest possible reason is that they don't believe in the shitcoin BCC and don't want to spend scarce resources in implementing it. Will people get upset if they've lost out on a coin that is worth nothing ?

I'd agree with the lack of human resources being the likely reason, but claim that Polo won't distribute BCC because they "don't believe in it" is idiotic. Polo would list any shitcoin that generates decent volume. Plus, whether they like it or not, they will have access to shitload of BCC, so it all boils down to whether they want to share with their customers or keep them for themselves. On top of that, they're already facing negative effects of massive funds outflow and I don't believe they would shot themselves in the foot like this just because they don't like BCC.

So the real reasons are either:
1- Internal mess, backlog in processing tickets, therefore no resources to execute distribution.
2- Insolvency.
3- Greed, they'd rather keep BCC for themselves (to dump them, or for speculative holding - to see how it all unfolds).

You need login credentials to see the linked ticket. Post a screenshot if you want to share.

After all the pending withdrawals issues posts, I was expecting the worst, but yesterday withdrew a little below $2k limit worth of BTC and all went nice and smooth.
2817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: July 29, 2017, 06:35:45 PM
Poloniex may not support BCC, and may not credit users with BTC with BCC.  The only reason for this would be that they do not have the actual BTC 100% of the users.  Scary isn't it ?  When the tide goes out you see who is swimming naked.

Or they rather keep the BCC to themselves.

"We may or may not..." statement is an ugly trick. After Stellar airdrop fiasco, I sense they don't intend to distribute BCC at all, but don't want to admit it outright to prevent funds outflow.

Maybe they're indeed insolvent, or maybe they have some deep internal mess (shitload of outstanding tickets) and just try to avoid any additional work related to distribution.
2818  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin Going Down Badly? on: July 15, 2017, 01:56:02 PM
is it all due to 1st August Bitcoin Fork??

That's probably the least important factor. Apart from this, there are likely some of the recent ICOs dumping raised funds, but most of all, decline is just a natural consequence of previous rally.

There were shitload of inexperienced newcomers buying into Bitcoin with only one goal - getting rich quick. They're slowly losing patience and starting to realise that "Lamboland" is not gonna happen, so they'd just accept the loss and cash out.

Plus, as always, lots of traders are selling to buy back more at lower prices.

Who will believe you? There is no person who will believe that there were no green men in the Crimea? From the fact that the Russians support Putin's lies, this does not mean that others believe in this lie. The Russian people lived in lies in the USSR and continues to live in lies. If the Russians like this way of life, this does not mean that other people like to live in lies.

If you believe that East/Crimea is occupied by 'green men' and poor eastern-Ukrainians are held hostages, then why on earth are you not rushing to help them? Shouldn't this have been a top priority? Instead you went into sanctioning those regions and cutting them off supplies/banking etc. Something's not right here... Could it be that they simply didn't appreciate the coup and overthrowing democratically elected president and are not very keen on accepting your puppet-government?

And could you remind us all why the Majdan happened at all? Wouldn't be easier just to wait for the next election and let people decide? Let me guess: "Yanukovych/Russia would surely rig the election!" - maybe, maybe not - you should've still tried to do it civilised way (+ invite international observes etc). And lets not forget that prior to Yanukovych you had a pro-EU government (Yushchenko/Tymoshenko) but they didn't do very well and got rejected, didn't they?

Face the reality kiddo, you got played pretty badly. You've lost huge chunk of your country and now have much less sovereignty than under Yanukovych. You've become EU's bitch with zero rights, you have to agree to anything they throw at you. Your 'right sector' militias figured it out eventually , but it was too late.
2820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Split 2017 on: July 13, 2017, 09:53:27 AM
does this effectively mean ETH at $1000?

No. Have you missed the briefing? If BTC splits, we're all moving money to DOGE coin.
Now lock the thread.
