Testing seems to be going very well, and its a lot of fun. A lot of activity and bug squashing on Jira. It looks like we should have a new improved testnet version 4 soon. Looking forward to testing the new testnet wallet when it comes out.

Join testing, you will only grow more confident about handling Darksend+, that way when we go to mainnet you will be very familiar with the process.  All you need is a darkcoin.conf file that says testnet=1 on it and thats it, when it starts it starts with an orange splash screen as opposed to the normal blue one and it says testnet in big letters no way to get confused.

I just checked jira, bugs are dropping like flies, I am very excited for the release of v4. We are close, come to testnet, help out, it's easy, you'll be glad you did!

DRK FTW!!

Join RC5 TESTING over at the official forum

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/rc5-testing.2245/
And not a bump was given that day...

Report any desired features after testing....

Just in case: testing is free - you can get thousands and thousands of tDRKs. Maybe you can try to figure out a way to send those tDRKs to your real wallet....

One can only dream....

Evan Duffield,
I want to point out some flaws in the user flows of Darkcoin RC5 client. Please note that I work with user interfaces on a daily basis.

Current:
1) User can enable or disable anonimization, disabled by default.
2) If enabled, every time you start the client, it starts anomimizing any non-anonimized funds automatically.

Issues with Current:
1) It takes some effort to figure out how to enable anonimzation (Darksend). It's quite hidden.
2) When enabled, the client simply starts anonimizing all your funds automatically, without user request. To me, as a user, this feels very intrusive. What if I started the client to quickly check my funds, not to have my funds anonimized. The task is to start the client, not to start the client and anonimize funds at the same time. This is a very poor user experience. Usually in user flow design, flows are split per task type. In Darkcoin, tasks that are totally different are merged as one. Things even become worse if my wallet has a password: I get the password prompt shortly after enabling the client. My first reaction is, why the hell does the password prompt show, I didn't do anything? It looks like a bug. At the very least, the password prompt should explain why it is showing automatically.

Proposed:
The anonimization process absolutely needs to be user initiated, it should never happen automatically (although there could be advanced options for that). I'd like to compare the Darkcoin client to virus scanning software, since I feel that both software types share similarities in terms of task architecture.

Does virus scanning software start scanning your computer once you start the virus scanner? No, it doesn't. Why not? Because that would be intrusive. The user requests to start the program, not to perform any type of action in addition. Instead, virus scanning software simply has a big green 'Quick Scan' button in their home screen. The Darkcoin client should have the equivalent of this: A big green 'Anonimize Funds' button (do not call it "Darksend" please as this name is misleading). Clicking it would start the anonimizing process. If your wallet has a password, then you would see a prompt at this stage to enter your password. 'Anonimize Funds' button would be disabled if all your funds have already been anonimized.

Evan Duffield, can I get your opinion on this? I feel this would be a considerable improvement to RC5 as current implementation is very likely to scare off new users since the anonimization user flow is far from optimal at the moment..

I think you've raised some really good points. Giving the user more control is generally a good thing, unless things become too complicated. I suppose it could be possible to have a "Don't ask me again" checkbox for those who are annoyed by the popup message every time they start up the client, but other than that I think that what you've suggested would make it very clear to the user exactly what is going on.

I have made a proposal on jira about this subject, asking for the optional feature of an estimated transaction fee in addition to the prompt for anonymization😃:

Smiley Thank you, I wish the major pools like dedicatedpool or darkcoinoboxru update but they are tough players.

They will update soon or be left behind post RC5, if I understand Evan correctly.

That 100+ btc wall eaten or removed ?

Eaten in one shot  Wink .

Using that 20k DRK to build Masternodes it would appear, Masternode count up to 884 and rising....

Hey guys, been away for a while, thrilled to see that we are focusing our efforts to make DRK kickass across all platforms before adding distractions.

I think there is still a place for value-added services for MasterNodes, but let's get DRK well established as the privacy currency of choice worldwide first.

Well isn't this interesting! http://adamsblog.aperturelabs.com/2013/01/fun-with-masked-roms.html

By the way, has anyone heard anything about the direction that is currently being considered for the ''Darktor'' idea, I think it will change the world if it becomes a Web 3.0 - a Safenet people connect to when they want to be secure online for everyday transactions and anonymity (with its own secure minimal fee People's Exchange) and a secure real, non leveraged and sustainable investable currency.

After all, as more and more business is conducted online, data theft relating to identity theft will be a major concern.

Why do your internet shopping or browsing on the old internet where you could get compromised if you can do it safely? It also provides an obvious direction for approaching different parties to help bring this to all corners of the world. Promote the whole package new safe internet package, it began with Evan coding, led to a coin, led to the best coin, led to a dream, led us to our hearts...

As for names... Smiley  Iris sounds cool but it also in my opinion might sound a bit scary like a government program or something like this and could also be seen as a little video game sounding - Connecting through Iris  - But I play video games occasionally and very much enjoy them... Wink Freedom was fought for by all our ancestors, many sacrificed and died so that others could live and so that we could live today - I believe it is our responsibility to honour the path of Freedom, to honour those who have come before, to honour ourselves, so we may see that honour shine through the eyes of the children who will one day be, in this beautiful world, a force of loving change to make us proud.

People have been discussing the creation of a new internet for a while now, many banks and such have their own secure nets. The world need's a People's Internet, because the world is about the world and it's people. In the past and still today, wars have been fought for land and water. Let us hope the current status quo governments of today remember the cost of today's freedom, and that they are the one's that start wars, or they can use the love in their heart centres as people  (they are people too and deserve the love that is their truth) to guide the world away from the things it doesn't need. Sometimes our ancestors had to fight for their freedom, let us hope no persons on this earth ever succeed in stopping freedom to connect to the internet, freedom to educate yourself freely and according to your own path. Freedom to live prosperously and to any conduct or way of being, of thinking and creating, as long as it does not harm another's right to the same. This is not hard, it is our natural state before our mental gets governed. Smiley

A new internet designed to be safe from data theft is legitimate, designed with its own anonymous currency. The masternodes allow us to sustainably distribute it to all the people of the world. How much better could it possibly get, for everyone, for the whole world? And then we can be happy promoting it as the truth it really is, an evolution of freedom on our world, because freedom will always evolve, because we will make sure it survives, and survival requires evolution. And that seem's to often lead to beauty... Namaste my friends.

Another side thought, what if instead of making the new internet for porno, we made it for everything except pornography. I know it is contrary to what was proposed. What coins said got me thinking, but what if instead we relegated porn to the old internet only.

This way, people who want to watch pornography online can keep getting tracked like today ( they still do it right? Smiley ) this will ensure that pedophiles get caught because they will be excluded from possibly hiding. If anyone tries to put porno on the new web, it is immediately blocked and removed Smiley I would also like to mention people don't pay to watch porno anymore. All this should automatically get people's support. This should be almost an automated process friends, or at the very least semi-automated.

Hear! Hear! Well written. As I wrote earlier in this thread, the possibilities are boundless...

Is the timing likely to be influenced by NY BitLicences? Doesn't sound like it should. ETFs should be able to go through under existing regulations and supervisions.

Is there any reason why we couldn't set-up a master node offering on, say, the NASDAQ?

Sir Crouton gave me a way to potentially think about structuring an entity that could have shares in Master Nodes, while keeping them decentralized - multisig. The owners become owner/operators, the listed entity pays upfront for some rights over future income (or through some sort of sale and leaseback) - both entities control the flow of funds through multisig, with a third trustee, such as an audit firm or lawyer, acting as independent key holder.

Trustees could be outside the USA to ensure access is difficult or impossible to obtain for Feds, etc.

Then it all comes down to what services are running on master nodes. But if they can opt-out of certain types of services, then the NASDAQ entity could file audit reports on the basis of income from legitimate adult infrastructure services, plus mixing income.

Cryptographic multisig is potentially very useful in a number of situations, and currently woefully underutilised, probably because it's a pain in the arse to do, hence my attempts at a UI to explain it to myself and possibly make it useable and useful to others.

Now that I have a grasp of the mechanics, I'm going to try and port my simple app to the web so it's useable from anywhere, like a BitRated for DRK, but obviously with a much better name.  Wink

Also bear in mind that although one of the most common multisig configurations is with three parties, (buyer, seller, arbiter) there can be any combination of required keys to the lock that you like - 2 of 3, 3 of 4, 7 of 9, 243 of 401... and I haven't tested it but I see no obvious reason why multisig addresses of whatever configuration can't be locked together in higher level multisig addresses - which might give rise to a way of making things like large scale voting, elections, any kind of situation where consensus is required computationally unbreakable while remaining completely transparent and auditable.

In the MN-net for example, you could have different consensual blocs as well as individual MN ops... really this is fantastic tech.

It really is astounding the number of uses for this tech. Evan has created something that is sure to make us and our descendants happy for a long, long time. Pity the fools selling ATM.

This whole darknet crap is all bullshit, the developers better work on the coins itself and start promoting and help merchants adopting the coin.
Who gives a fuck about a private internet,98% of the people using the internet dont care,Darkcoin does not need this crap,we need adoption.
When adoption is happening and merchants are accepting it and consumers are using Darkcoin and price is going up and stays stable-isch the developers can start this darknet thing,Darkcoin is a crypto currency and it needs the to stay that way, trying to copy a Tor network is not whats it about in the crypto currency world, trying to beat Tor is not what merchants care about.

I do find the ideas very intresting but they are just 2 seperate things(Crypto currency and anonymus internet) and i believe it it not good to mix these it will hurt Darkcoin the Darkcoin brand.
+1

But....

What if Master Nodes make money from other services. Other people will want to set-up master nodes so they can get in on the action.

The requirement to set-up a master node is the purchase of 1,000 DRK. That causes demand for the currency, and price stability.

It also increases the number of nodes available to mix. That increases the decentralization and reduces the risks of rogues.

I don't understand how added services are not reinforcement of adoption.

What I do agree with is the separation of the branding.

lets say darkcoin gets to $35 or more, starting a node will cost a lot of money, before you get your investment back will take a long time and only after that time you make some money,in the crypto world there are much better ways to make money with such an investment. Now it's a great time to start a node but not when darkcoin costs $35.why will pay $35000 to make some small cash out of it,it's better to daytrade Bitcoin or something else with that kind of money.

If MasterNet can realize it's potential (moon), MNs will not generate "small cash". There are boundless possibilities for this project...

I agree that MasterNet has it's place and will certainly benefit DRK through MN adoption, this should not be the venture that defines DRK. We want to be worldwide, accepted universally, and this means promoting it on its own fully. They will have a symbiotic relationship, but should both stand on their own.

Darkcoin: Shop online. Be protected. Be free.

Could be cool to eventually have these kinds of affirmations on posters with some awesome graphic designs like these ones by Enzwell, his work is awesome and I really think posters with this kind of design should be everywhere in malls and subways and bus stations, magazines like the economist, business week, macleans, etc. :

Great work Enzwell thank you!

I read this thread, and liked the idea of the poster who suggested we move away from the "anonymous" aspect and promote DRK as the "privacy" coin.

The logo with the slogan "DARKCOIN: Privately Accepted Here" was excellent.

Eltito said this is the way that the language will be heading and I support that 100%.

Re: Branding of DarkTor and usage of Darkcoin (bumped)

****************OPEN LETTER TO DARKCOIN COMMUNITY: PLEASE READ***********************

Intro:

Picture USDLand. How about EURMart. Oh, maybe JPY Motors?

If these company names seem silly to you, it's because they should.

I've been thinking long and hard about this issue, and agree with the posters who have a problem with Darkcoin (DRK) being lumped in
with a business venture, albeit one with massive potential such as the Masternode Network (MasterNet).

Before we proceed with development, it is imperative that we agree to seperate the two permanently.

DARKCOIN - (DRK, .DRK)

I have seen some posters refer to .DRK for some uses such as e-mail, poker sites, or de-centralized exchanges. In my view, this
is a mistake. We do not want new customers (if TOR is any indication, they could number in the millions) to have the first thing they
see for these services to be Darkcoin.

New Custome (NC)r: Hey, I heard that there is a new network that is better than TOR in every way, it's called DRKNET.
Dark Community Member (DCM): Ya, it's great, and it's powered by a fully anonymous digital currency called Darkcoin!
NC: So I need to get Darkcoins, to use this service?
DCM: Ya, it doesn't accept anything else.

The new customer gets the impression that this is the only use for these coins, which may not be true, and he will learn later that
he can use them in other places, but first impressions are strong, and he may use Bitcoin for other transactions.

Conclusion: We MUST not use .DRK (Darkcoin) or anything related to Darkcoin in promoting the Masternode Network (MasterNet, Web 3.0)

THE MASTERNODE NETWORK (MasterNet, Web 3.0)

This is where we need to concentrate our efforts to separate Darkcoin the currency from the Masternode Network.

PokerStars.MN, Webmail.MN, DRKBTC.MN, etc....

Make no mention of Darkcoin at all until the customer decides to try the product.

NC: Hey, I just heard of this great network that is better than TOR in everyway, it's called MasterNet.
DCM: Yeah, buddy, they are offering a free trial to get you started, but after that, you better stock up on Darkcoins, because that is
the only currency they accept!
NC: Really? What are Darkcoins?
DCM: I'm glad you asked! Darkcoins are a fully anonymous digital currency which are accepted worldwide at many locations online and in person,
and are the currency of choice for MasterNet. If you want to use MasterNet, you better create a Darkcoin wallet!
NC: Thanks! *Downloads wallet, thinks of all the places he will spend his coins*

Option 2 is clearly better than Option 1. Eliminate DRK completely from the business aspect of the project.

.DRK (No thanks)
.MN (Now you are talking)

Thank you for taking the time to read this, a lot of thought went into it, and please bump if you like it.

Total Masternodes: 892 = 835 actives + 57 inactives

Version    Number    Percent
0.9.12.32    1    0.12% - this is some kind of error.... I was convinced that on this version is impossible to start masternode.
0.10.11.5    1    0.12%
0.10.12.26    49    5.94%
0.10.12.27    161    19.52%
0.10.12.28    7    0.85%
0.10.12.29    39    4.73%
0.10.12.30    28    3.39%
0.10.12.31    295    35.76%
0.10.12.32    244    29.58%

I think this was someone who started their masternode on the 10 version, and has since switched their keys to a 9 version. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....
