I would have gone in for a free burger which rules out Krishna as well but nobody would ever accuse me of being hairless... I do play a mean tambourine.

Nope. No burgers in Krishnaland. They do give out weird vegan crap though.

Back in the early 1970s I answered an ad in the Bargain Hunter Press (later called Buy and Sell) for a P.A. amp at an incredible price. It was only a little over a block from our house on Gerrard near Jarvis but I didn't realize until I got there that it was the Krishna "Temple".

I double checked the ad to make sure the address was right and knocked on the door. The air was filled with incense, chants and the jingling of little bells. Some dude in saffron robes invited me in and immediately started to try to indoctrinate me.

I explained I was there for the P.A. amp they'd advertised. I realized some poor sucker had relinquished his worldly goods to the "church", including a Bogen 100W PA amplifier. Saffron Robe Dude was now worked up to a fever pitch trying to get my cash and sign me up. Maybe he thought he could get me to relinquish it after I'd paid for it. Get twice the mileage out of the classified ad and maybe sell it to someone else.

I asked for a receipt and when he came back with a receipt book he was also carrying some kind of weird seed-cake wafers which he offered to me as "food". I tasted it to be polite, thanked him, grabbed the P.A. and got the fuck out of there. The P.A. worked great until it was stolen from a bar we played in.

Ain't religion grand?

That's an awesome story.   You lived right in the heart of TO - Eaton's Center, Maple Leaf Gardens, The St. Lawrence Market, Nathan Phillips, Massey Hall, Sam the Record Man...  So many old memories of TO are flooding back.  I'm going to have to take the family there for a few days this summer to look around.  I haven't explored the downtown in ages and I'm sure I wont recognize it.

 Good one!  Yes and No.

I'm not Hindu though.
I'd better be careful, if I keep telling people what I'm not, eventually, I will have blown my opsec.

Let me guess. Jehovah's Witness? Scientologist? Hairless Krishna? Southern Baptist?

 Cool

JW?  I do get somewhat regular visits from a pair of elderly ladies wanting to teach me the truth. No.
Scientologist?  I remember being intrigued by their offer of a free personality test when they were at Yonge and College. So, no but I would have gone in for a free burger which rules out Krishna as well but nobody would ever accuse me of being hairless... I do play a mean tambourine.
  S. Baptist?  I can count on one hand the number of times I've been south of the Mason-Dixon line - not that there's anything wrong with that.

 You've got 16 left Wink

I thought the sum of your actions in this life dictates your fate in the next life.  I'm not Hindu though.

Wel I am not going to research it but I have always thought Karma was the same as getting your "Just Deserts".

Added:

Are you thinking of Kali? She is the Hindu Goddess of Death.

No.  You're right, what you put out comes back to you.

Thank you!  I've been trying to think of that phrase all day - you've led me to the word comeuppance
Boris got his comeuppance
 I can sleep now.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Pledges $1 Billion for Coronavirus Relief

https://time.com/5817083/jack-dorsey-pledges-1-billion-coronavirus-relief/

My favorite billionaire just gave away 28% of his net worth.
Okay but... how about this part?

“After we disarm this pandemic, the focus will shift to girl’s health and education, and UBI,” Dorsey said Tuesday in a tweet, referring to universal basic income. The pledge represents about 28% of his wealth, he said.
Those are feminist issues. And more to the point re: the virus, more men than women are dying from it.

Also also, UBI.

The reason more men than women are dying from Covid-19 might simply be due to the fact that me are the weaker sex with respect to our immune systems.
Look I'm no pharmacist, I'm just throwing this out there but we might want to look into estrogen therapy for our survival.  Estrogen never killed anybody (directly at least) so why not try it?  Of course any result would be purely anecdotal.

edit: oops I forgot the word women  Shocked   Freudian slip?  Wink

You also failed/refused to disclaim with #nohomo.

I disapprove of any efforts towards my own conversion, even if it is for my own good.   Angry Angry Angry Angry

You can still identify as a male.

#nohomo - thanks for reminding me

I am pretty sure that in recent weeks I had come across a term that describes a kind of poetic justice that occurs when someone becomes a victim of the very thing that s/he has been denying to exist.

Its called Karma.

Only if that person were to die though.

Why?

If you sell defective shit and get hurt because of it, its still Karma.

Check out this graph from JP Morgan:

This is based partially on the second wave emerging in China. Are we going to keep doing these lockdowns every couple of months until a vaccine arrives?

South Korea: no second wave, no lockdown.

Hang on.  They've yet to reopen the schools.

I am pretty sure that in recent weeks I had come across a term that describes a kind of poetic justice that occurs when someone becomes a victim of the very thing that s/he has been denying to exist.

Boris Johnson has already become that, but I cannot remember the term.. or if we need to create a term.

New research obsession of mine to find the right descriptor (or meme or whatever will accurately describe such phenomena and several people are coming to realize that those invisible lil thingies, aka viruses, can be a "real" force to be reckoned with).

Even when someone is a denier, we can still feel some passion for the human side of severe illness and perhaps succumbing to death when they become the victim, even though their prior arrogance can be challenging of such sympathies, too, as shown in this article, including a video from Johnson, too.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-28/johnson-s-war-with-coronavirus-is-no-joke-anymore

The below article about Landon Spradlin deals with coronavirus deniers becoming victims, too.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/04/02/landon-spradlin-coronavirus-pandemic-death-punchline/

I'd like to point out that there is a difference between denying the existence of Covid-19 and using a more restrained approach than shutting down your economy and paying people not to work in order to control the spread of the virus.  Many of us in the free world don't take kindly to being imprisoned even if it might be in our own best interest.  Don't forget that Boris just weeks ago finished wresting Britain from the clutches of that bureaucratic behemoth - The European Empire Mash-up Union.

I wonder if this will spur wells fargo to not allow accounts to be linked to crypto exchanges. Seems the knee jerk reaction of first choice for the banks...

It's a nightmare for everyone but the most avid of photographers.

Normally one would use long exposure times, using nd1000 grey filters, which makes everything that is moving disappear on the photo.
Like magic, but not suitable for everything (empty airports, parking spaces... ).

Thanks for the tip.  I had no idea that was possible.

The daily graphs of the 8 countries worst hit by Covid-19 as of today ordered by total number of confirmed cases.   The fact that the y-axis scale (number of new infections) hasn't required changing on over half of the graphs is heartening.  We've got this.
...

Somehow I doubt that everyone shares your feeling on that.

Fear not, douche-bags, you can probably string out your '2nd wave' fearmongering for just about as long as the Q-tards have all those 'sealed indictments.'

I have no doubt about everyone sharing my feelings but I don't understand your second sentence. My grasp of the English language is not as good as I thought.

Costco is refusing to accept returns on items that were most likely to be hoarded.

I would like to point out that friends, relatives and even neighbours offered to pick up grocery items for us when we were in a 14 day mandatory self-isolation.  Several of my parents neighbours have offered to pick up grocery items for them as well.  There is good in the world and not everyone with multiple items is necessarily a hoarder.

I haven't yet been able to find any explanation as to why the number in France suddenly increased by so much; I'm still searching for news on that.
In case you wanted to compare to last week's graphs (notice that some of the scales have changed).
