2921  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador retirees protest against Bitcoin as legal tender on: September 01, 2021, 11:07:39 AM
Introduction : We already know El Salvador become the first country that 100% support Bitcoin because they plan to accept Bitcoin as a legal tender on September 7, 2021 which will bring mass adoption for Bitcoin. As we can see many users spreading good news about El Salvador in this forum, some of them:

I thought there will no bad news from El Salvador to Bitcoin, but I'm wrong I'm really shocked when I see a news talking some veteran, pensioners, and workers from El Salvador protest against Bitcoin as legal tender. The most shocked thing is their opinions about Bitcoin, all is bullshit!

Quote
We know this coin fluctuates drastically. Its value changes from one second to another, and we will have no control over it,” Stanley Quinteros, a member of the Supreme Court of Justice’s workers’ union, reportedly said. Salvadorans also expressed concerns over the lack of knowledge and understanding of the technology needed to use cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Protesters held up signs saying, “We don’t want Bitcoin” and “No to corrupt money laundering.”
What on earth did they say??? NO CONTROL OVER IT, CORRUPT MONEY LAUNDERING!
Bitcoin = Be Your Own Bank, you have full control over it just like how Bank can have full control of your Fiat. Bitcoin could be used for Money Laundering but do you have an evidence about it? No! You just ignored the fact your favorite Fiat is always be used for money laundering $800 billion - $2 trillion in current US dollars every year!

Not understand about technology and lack of knowledge? You can still to learn, there's no restrictions to study Bitcoin where you from, where you live, how old are you, what you gender, anyone can learn it! A lot youtuber, article, animations, and whatever already make simple definition for Average Joe to learn Bitcoin, you don't need to learn the technical thing at least you know what is Bitcoin, how it works, how to use, etc etc.

Quote
According to local reports, El Salvador’s latest anti-Bitcoin protests were apparently a part of a wider opposition campaign by local veterans protesting over low pensions on Friday. As such, some protesters reportedly demanded a pension increase from $100 to $300.
They want to be rich, but they protest against Bitcoin used as legal tender LOL does this both picture are hard to understand? please, open your eyes. Bitcoin from 0 went to $47K while USD from $25 went to $1

Quote
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele announced legislation to accept Bitcoin as legal tender alongside the U.S. dollar in early June. The bill later passed the nation’s Legislative Assembly and is scheduled to be enforced on Sept. 7. Last week, the president clarified that Salvadorans would be free not to use Bitcoin, stating:

“What if someone doesn’t want to use Bitcoin? Don’t download the Chivo app and continue living your normal life. Nobody is going to take your dollars. Someone can always queue up at Western Union and pay a commission.”
This is the most thing I fully respect El Salvador's President statement, he doesn't forcing anyone to download their own Bitcoin app named Chivo which I think it's web wallet or the worst case ask KYC of their citizens. So if you have a privacy concern and worried about the credibility/trustworthy about the wallet, you can use non-custodial wallet or hardware wallet.

In the end, I hope El Salvador's President wouldn't postpone or even rejecting the plan to accept BTCitcoin as legal tender

Source :

I guess those people who have protested against the adoption of El Salvador on bitcoin to make it as a legal tender were not really informed and knowledgeable enough about the power and benefits bitcoin upholds. Given the range of age of the people you have mentioned: veterans and pensioners definitely belong to the older generations. Maybe these people aren't aware of the new technology such as blockchain that can secure their funds and help them manage them on their own. Perhaps, these people are old-school and weren't just educated properly about bitcoin's nature and how to utilize it. Or maybe they were given the chance to learn, but they pushed the opportunity away because of being close-minded. We can't just really please anyone and let them pick our side despite giving all the information needed.

There will always be opposition, but don't get me wrong, I know opposition also balances and makes the aspect of the economy of a country, rules, and laws to be thoroughly thought upon. Let's just hope that El Salvador's government will take a look at the concern of their citizens and address them properly. May the protest be an eye-opener for their government to review their plans and to be transparent to the citizens of whatever they are planning to do. Hopefully, they will still push through the bitcoin adoption as legal tender the moment every issue is settled down.
2922  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker casino but need KYC, is this really necessary? on: August 31, 2021, 02:54:58 PM
I am against KYC, yeah, I don't like them but at the same time think about this, don't you want to know who are your customers? What if illegal transaction is made through your platform and then the government asks you for the users identity?

I reinforce what I said earlier about KYC.
For those who intend to bet on gambling just for fun and not for profit, you shouldn't be obliged to submit your data's person.
After all, that person is just consuming a service.

But... if the intention is to withdraw money (or crypto) from these services, then yes, KYC is required and I don't see anything against the site demanding this from customers. Provided, of course, they are advised of these rules in advance, not just when it's time to withdraw.

I agree to this one.

However, there are gambling sites that will not let you play your unless you are a verified user in their platform, and others are just gonna remind you about the KYC if you're withdrawing the money (if it's big amount of winnings, something you're gonna have a hard time in completing your KYC) like they don't want you to have your winnings.

The only cons for me of submitting KYC is;
1. They might use it on something illegal
2923  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Affiliates (Paid Streamers) - Fair or Not to other non-paid gamblers? on: August 31, 2021, 01:50:33 PM
Obviously, paid streamers to promote certain gambling sites will always win if he use that money on that certain casino but will never be able to withdraw that money, instead the casino will pay different money to that streamer, that's the truth behind it.

Is it fair to those who are not paid? Well, my opinion about that is no. Gambling houses never made to be fair, the odds are always on their side, because that's how it works, that's why gambling has a huge risk when playing. For you to make it fair, you just have to be smart, why play believing that you could also make money just like the paid streamer if the house doesn't even know you, right? I hope that does make sense.
2924  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Anderson Silva vs Tito Ortiz on September 11 on: August 30, 2021, 03:17:03 PM
The event date is approaching fast and we have so much to look forward to. Silva and Ortiz are well-known boxers that have reputation to uphold. They are on the top of their games and are very much willing to win the match. Both can be seen to have a strong driving force to win the upcoming match.

Their fight on September 11 will be real bouts and not just an exhibition. Meaning, it will be more thrilling and entertaining to watch and witness who will be the declared winner. The two will fight an eight round game with two minutes alloted time each round. Hopefully, the two will execute and give us a worthwhile game to see. Given that it will be broadcast in pay-per-view (because it's a boxing sport).
2925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol on: August 30, 2021, 02:22:28 PM
Another fight that wont give Canelo anything except money and a chance to get injured by an opponent from higher weight division.
If Canelo is up to money that much, he should challenge one of Paul brothers. That will be an easy fight and easy money.

How many more year Canelo is planning to be in business? I think it is time for him to retire (not because of age, but because there are no more strong opponents left) or move to other division.

I don't think he should retire this early. He is a strong and a reputable boxer. He can still fight against more opponents that are on the same level of him in terms of fighting in a match. If you'll watch closely during his matches, he always throws powerful punches and is very strategic. He knows when to attack and how to aim directly at the target. This makes him a very good opponent because surely, everytime you will watch his game, you will be entertained by his charisma inside the boxing ring.

He can still make more money if he will continue his boxing career. Besides, I think he is enjoying his profession and not just after money alone.
2926  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling ombudsman - do you feel protected? on: August 30, 2021, 12:34:29 PM

3- What happens if the casino claims something else and the player says something else because obviously data can be faked by the casino
4- A large number of fake complaints will pile up and take ages to solve them

This is indeed tricky and I do not know the one that exists but even if we have one, the authorities should have a means for them to operate that is fair to both parties, yes the case will pile up but they must have a means to check the allegations they are mandated to solve the case in a time that is satisfactory to both parties.

I love to see one so we'll know if it will suceed.

The thing is that in such a dispute the protection of the player by the authorities is practically not feasible, since if the state authorities are able to track transactions in the blockchain thanks to analytical blockchain services, all operations performed at the level of online casinos are not public and, therefore, can be changed at any time and it is impossible to prove it.

Absolutely correct.

That's why cryptocurrency is decentralized and the Government still can't regulates it because it's too hard for them to do so. So having an ombudsman in an online gambling for example is basically useless unless he can track those transactions and accurately judge who's transaction is this, something like that, if not, then what's the point. If you're a gambler, you should always take the full responsibility on your funds and how you play gambling to avoid consequences in the long run.
2927  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sponsored Money (Twitch/Youtuber) on: August 30, 2021, 11:33:59 AM
I don't see any point on looking one. I meant, what's so confusing if people are rolling a huge amount of money in gambling? if they are streamers or YouTubers, even without sponsors money from a gambling site, surely they can afford to gamble at such phase if they are really gamblers, simple as that.

But most of the videos that shows what you wanted to see are not really "sponsored". What I mean is he gambling site will no totally gives the whole money to the YouTuber who promotes them but only some of it.
2928  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley on: August 30, 2021, 10:59:58 AM
WTF with Tyron Woodley? This is really a fixed match, Woodley was aggresive on MMA but in this match is really boring. Most of the times he used for walking around the rings until the times run out. Only on 4th and 7th rounds he often to punches Jake Paul, he just wait and wait Jake Paul punch him first. That's make Jake Paul more dominating than Woodley, it's why he win on this match.

There's a lot of hesitancy in Woodley's move, could be fixed or he doesn't trust his power and is afraid of Paul's power, this is not something that we expect on a former MMA fighter who posses an aggressive move and powerful punch, there's too much hugging going on, boxing and MMA are really too different things, Woodley has the nerve to ask for a rematch when he did not come to fight I don't think there should be a rematch.

I think he didn't hesitate on his moves, it's what you called not underestimating your opponent. Even if he was a MMA fighter before doesn't mean he will carelessly attack his opponent because he is superior against Logan Paul when it comes to skills, because anything could go wrong since Logan also knows how to punch and fight, and landing one decent hit on him could make him suffer that could be the reason to lose.

Might as well this fight was rigged for Woodley to act like that to make Logan looks powerful more than him.
2929  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sexy casinos on: August 28, 2021, 02:15:57 PM
The casino uses sexy ladies to distract players and seduce them to not focus on the game. But if the player wants to "use them" for another thing after the game, that different story because that thing is to happen out of the casino. The casino did not mean to offer prostitution, but some gamblers think like that because they see the sexy ladies in the casino, making them feel different after they stop the games.

Is that the purpose of having sexy women in the casino? Is it that narrow the purpose of casinos providing women just to stimulate gambling disinterest? Maybe 30% is indeed his job, apart from being a gambler's observer, I think it has become an attraction so that gamblers are more enthusiastic when accompanied by sexy women. That's what I think when I see the number of sexy women next to the gamblers. And one more thing, they (sexy women) will certainly get tips money if the man they are accompanying wins.

I'd rather agree  with you than with @ipanks. What does it even mean, "to distract players and seduce them to not focus on the game"? To distract from what exactly? How your performance can be improved in purely luck based games if you are not distracted, and you can "focus" on the game? Also, if it was true that being distracted players were losing more than usually, gamblers would notice it and would start avoiding such casinos.

The girls are there only to make the experience more pleasant, to make you stay longer and to want to come back.

I agree.

Coming back for those two reasons is what gambling sites want to assure to gain more players and not to lose them, to make their bankroll big every single day. It's just a very cool marketing strategy since bachelor's like girls, there's nothing bad to it unless you're married already or do have a girlfriend already. Also, girls in casinos purpose is to have a good appearance to people, it is important to be presentable to all of the players for them to enjoy gambling even more.
2930  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Euro 2020 caused a spike in gambling issues on: August 28, 2021, 11:41:15 AM
You don't have to stop watching sports, there's nothing wrong with that. What you need to stop is making bets every time you watch sports, that's the only one mistake on them. Maybe since it's pandemic, they were just trying to spice things up in watching sports that's why they started sports betting. No matter how low the odd is, gambling is still gambling that'll make your money disappear in no time.

They need therapy of course. There's no way they can eliminate their own addiction on their own if they are just simply forgetting it for a day and if they get bored, they will continue betting again.
2931  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Life with a Gambler - Solution! on: August 27, 2021, 03:24:21 PM
I didn't experience it nor experiencing it right now but I know a lot of people here in my place who are addicted to gambling (cock fighting, poker, and lottery). I thought if they lost their job, they would quit gambling because they don't have anything to bet, but I was wrong. They made a loan to loan sharks, and this is the one they are using to support their addiction in gambling, which leads to disaster.

Gambling addiction will give you a pile of stress and problems if you're not going to solve it, instead you're just making it worst every single day by betting and betting until your debt is as big as your addiction.
2932  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Esport Gambling with Crypto. on: August 27, 2021, 01:43:26 PM
Quote
FYX’s CEO Adam Kling told The Esports Journal in April that he envisions esports looking like “online poker on steroids,” given the potential of real-money gaming at a grassroots level. Ultimately, blockchain could improve competitive integrity and security in esports and, as Kling sees it, “democratise esports”.

This has been told already last month in an article. The future of E-Sports will use cryptocurrency as long as the technology evolves. However, they did not mention the exact date of making it happen. It may not become true, or the other way around, no one knows. But this is pretty exciting, because pool prices will become more bigger if the bets is going to be fixed in cryptocurrency like Bitcoin and not in fiat.
2933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 61 year old plays the same numbers since 1991 and wins 18 millions on: August 27, 2021, 01:04:06 PM
I guess this is how long in years you have to wait before winning in lottery in a 1 in 13,983,816, that's a lot of bets and patience you have to have in order to get your dream win in a lottery. Waiting for 20 years in lottery to win millions is no joke, that's a great perseverance he has to be able to pull this off. I bet he is so happy that he'll give some of his blessing as a donations for those who are unfortunate.

Let's just hope the lottery in his place hid his name before posting in on public that someone won millions of dollars after 20 years betting on the same numbers.
2934  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling control on: August 27, 2021, 11:57:42 AM
Control means everything, in everything we do in our lives, especially in decision making. If you're in control, gambling house could never manipulate you, therefore you can avoid losing your money in the long run. This goes the same in gambling addiction, if you can control the urge you give in gambling, there's a less percentage that you'll be addicted in gambling.

Being in control means you are the boss, you are the one working with your money to make profits and not the gambling site working on you to make profits because they control your whole system as a gambler.
2935  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pacquiao vs Ugas rematch on: August 27, 2021, 11:27:34 AM
People were saying that Manny should retire because of his loss against Ugas, but he still insist to fight and that's good for boxing. As a champion, I have high respect for Ugas because he gives the legend a chance to fight him again, he is humble in a victory that's why he was blessed.

I'm afraid if Manny would win this, there might be a 3rd fight to end this rivalry.

Manny is already 42, you can't blame if people thinks retirement should be in his decision soon because it seems like his body can't handle the training anymore or it's just a coincidence. But the rematch that would happen is gonna be amazing if Manny Pacquiao could really give his 100% fighting skills to defeat Ugas.

If Manny could win the rematch, I doubt that there's gonna be a 3rd match, in my opinion, because if Manny wins, that means they just settled the score. If there's gonna be another match, it'll probably take some time before it's gonna happen again.
2936  Economy / Economics / Re: Amazon's future plans on: August 26, 2021, 03:50:26 PM
The news of Amazon's involvement in cryptocurrency is now spreading more and more, and e-commerce giant Amazon may take action to integrate Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies as payment methods. If the company's strategy is realized, it may become the first major e-commerce platform in the United States to integrate cryptocurrency on its platform.

https://bitcoinist.com/amazon-targeting-bitcoin-payments-seeks-crypto-product-lead/

According to insiders, this is only the first phase of Amazon. Once they "establish a fast and secure" encrypted payment method, the second phase will start. The final stage will involve the creation and launch of Amazon's native tokens. And these Amazon officials did not respond to relevant news, everything is just speculation.
https://bitcoinist.com/amazon-to-integrate-bitcoin-payments-and-launch-its-own-token-by-2022-insider-confirms/

So Amazon will use encrypted payment to attract people first, for the purpose of their own tokens in the future? Like the previous platform currency BNB, then launch the Amazon exchange?

This is great news if Amazon will really push through their plan of adopting bitcoin as one of their modes of payment alongside the existing payment methods. This will have a positive impact on the cryptocurrency community because if this will happen, the other companies and establishments may follow their steps. If ever, they will be the first e-commerce to do so and will be a role model that can be an instrument to encourage more people to enter the crypto world and use it to pay for their transactions online. This bold move of Amazon could also encourage more investors that will have a positive effect on the price of bitcoin.

I guess that's what Amazon will try to do: attract more people using their own token, in return maybe they will give some sort of incentive such as discount or prioritization to those who are using their token. Hopefully, though, there is no kind of hidden agenda up their sleeves.
2937  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency and entertainment. on: August 26, 2021, 02:47:56 PM
In the entertainment industry, entertainers need the news to trend and remain in vogue. Be it a good news or a bad news, it puts their names up on blog post, newspaper headlines and most importantly in the mouth of people. We can deduce from this that Entertainers need the news to stay valid and in vogue and without trying to constantly be in the news be it for a good or bad reason, they can fade away and people quickly forget.

(Replace "entertainment" with "cryptocurrency")

Been thinking - What do you think is the biggest news cryptocurrency needs that will increase its popularity?

I think the news that will put cryptocurrency in the spotlight would be that countries all over the world going for mass adoption of bitcoin. This event will surely be the talk of the town and can garner more investors along the way. The crypto community will benefit when the time comes there are more people investing in bitcoin. This will surely cause a pump because of market demand. In addition, the adoption of bitcoin by different companies and establishments can also bring a lot of people to eye on bitcoin whether to invest, save or trade which I can see a positive effect soon after. This will be a piece of good news to the existing users because we will have more options to pay for our transactions.
2938  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Now is the best time to invest in Bitcoin on: August 26, 2021, 02:16:29 PM
The best time to invest in Bitcoin is at the lowest price that will never be seen again. If we will never see below $20k prices again, then any purchase made 7+ months ago was the best at that moment. But now that we're experiencing an almost 50% crash with very weak recovery, it's very debatable whether it's the best time, or if the price will go even lower. Of course you can win big if the bull run resumes tomorrow, but you can also make a suboptimal purchase if the price will keep sinking.

This. I can say that those people who are able to purchase during the $20k position are the very lucky ones. Although it's still not late to purchase because bitcoin's price is in its low position right now. However, like what you just stated, it's still very hesitant to purchase right now because bitcoin's volatility is very evident nowadays. Fluctuations of its price in the market are seen. Tomorrow, its price may even dip lower than today. It's just really a matter of technical analysis to have the right prediction and timing on when to buy again.
2939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin could destroy economy on: August 26, 2021, 01:29:34 PM
It's the classic old "bitcoin for criminals" argument again.

Knives are used mostly for cutting food but are also used to stab people. Cars are used as means of transportation but are also used as getaway vehicles. Phones are used for communication but are also used for triggering bombs and for cyber crime. Guns are mostly used for self defense but are also used for murder.

And ultimately, the USD and other fiat currencies are also being used to fund terrorists and for other nefarious activities. The list goes on and on and on and on. What's your point?

I agree. Other kinds of currencies can also be used to fund illegal activities, not just bitcoin. Other currencies such as fiat can also be laundered, hence there is a law such as AMLA (anti-money laundering law), that most countries implement. It's a bit exaggerated to say that bitcoin can be the cause of a country's failure. Because foremost, the country's welfare is in the hands of the leader. When the leader is stupid and corrupt, surely the country's economy will go downhill in no time. Meanwhile, if the leader is competent enough to do his job, there would just be minimal problems. And bitcoin would be the last thing they would blame upon their failure because they still have greater power, don't they?

The government collects taxes on the people, companies, projects, and many more. They have many sources of income that are utilized for the betterment of the country. In fact, most countries make money from btc by people exchanging it with fiat it thru platforms that require KYC which are regulated by the government.

2940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, Capitalism, Democracy and Decentralisation on: August 26, 2021, 12:30:32 PM
Governments have copped a lot of flack ever since the start of the pandemic, with gasps and finger-pointing as they printed trillions of stimulus.

Is the idea of money-printing by centralized authority bad? When does it make sense to have a centralized leadership and when doesn't it? And more importantly, if the world was on a bitcoin standard when the pandemic started, what could have been done better? These are some of the questions I want to discuss.

The argument against money-printing is that it can lead to monetary mismanagement and currency debasement, both of which are bad for the general public. However, if we are faced with an emergency (such as global pandemic), what's the alternative? Let the markets sort it out? Let the general public decide how fiscal spending should be allocated? Allow the general public to decide and vote on outcomes via a Decentralised Autonomous Government? Give power back to the individuals and hope they can decide what's best in the midst of all the chaos? I just don't see how that's any better to be honest.

Sometimes there are merits to centralized control. For example, what would happen if Tesla was a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation and didn't have a central authority? Would the general public be able to create self-driving electric cars with their token votes? That just seems ridiculous.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the same applies to government. Yes, there are some shady people there (with their own incentives), but again what's the alternative? Under a bitcoin standard, you can argue that incentives are more aligned to general public. Ok so what does that mean? Well, we allow markets to crash and let markets do their thing and things will naturally sort themselves out. We have more wild swings in the cycle. Is this better than the current system which artificially smooths things out? It's hard to say. It's sort of like home insurance. Most of the time you pay premiums and your house s fine, but when your house collapses, then with insurance you're at least got a safety net. But over time, the insurance premiums will eat away at your savings (just like how money-printing will eat away at your savings over the long term).

Excessive money printing is bad for the economy. Whenever the government and the central organizations decide to print much money, they disrupt the market and the economy in general. No matter how the money is spent, the effect such as inflation will be noticeable. Although sometimes when the money is used properly, the negative effects aren't much of a problem. The issue just comes out whenever they use the money in the wrong way and they print so much to the point that the money loses its purchasing power.

Having a democratic country being lead by stupid and corrupt politicians is the worst thing that any citizen could have. During this pandemic, a strong, strategic, and compassionate leader is what the people need. However, most countries aren't really fortunate to have such. Hence, the printing of much more money just becomes another problem because of fund mismanagement and corruption in the midst of a pandemic.

I don't think there is ever a greater alternative than electing people that are fit for the job and not just because they are popular or because of the dynasty. Having the right people in government positions would be of great help in addressing the country's problem in the economy and in capitalism as well. The cryptocurrency community would also benefit if the officials are open-minded and are in favor of crypto.

IMO, if the pandemic has started and we are living in crypto particularly on bitcoin, we will still have a hard time given that bitcoin is very volatile and a lot of people aren't aware of how it works. Adding the fact that there are many people in the marginalized sector who aren't even given basic healthcare and necessities, it would be very hard to adapt, unless of course, you have the privilege.
