301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Blockchain on Blu-Ray on: May 16, 2016, 09:32:55 AM
I honestly don't think this idea would work. People who are interested into running a full node already have enough disk space and high-speed Internet service so they don't need to get any other prerecorded Blockchain when they can download it themselves. Also this stuff will be very outdated by the time it gets to you and for collectors value one could just buy an external hdd and store the whole Blockchain on this instead of collecting a dozen blu rays every couple months and still the database will be outdated.
302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone have plan to make income on bitcoins :) on: May 16, 2016, 08:38:24 AM
I am currently working in a company and I am getting paid in fiat but I have done some projects as a freelancer and I have asked to get paid in Bitcoin. Bitcoin is more like a secondary part time income for me and I am trying to hold it long term and not spend it like a currency.
303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Halving - here's the math on: May 16, 2016, 08:31:43 AM
But if theoretically the miner fees will cost more than the block rewards and the price of Bitcoin gets very high, doesn't that mean people will spend fortunes in miner fees for moving even small amounts of money? How will this work out in the future?
304  Economy / Economics / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Will Replace Dollar Soon? on: May 16, 2016, 08:11:06 AM
One interesting fact about the US dollar is that it isn't backed by gold unlike the Chinese Yuan which is backed by gold reserves in China and it holds a lot more value than the US dolar which is backed by thin air and the US government and its army. I don't think Bitcoin will replace the US dollar, but saying that $ is the most sought after currency is false.
305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you had to choose a better name for Bitcoin, what would it be? on: May 16, 2016, 07:55:43 AM
If I had the chance to choose a new name for Bitcoin I would probably name it VirtuBank for a virtual bank where you are the sole owner and in control of your account balance and no one can scrutinize what you do with your money. But I don't think people would like the word bank in the name as it symbolizes centralization. I also like VirtuCash or VirtuMoney or VirtuPay. VirtuPay sounds very nice though.
306  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Beware of phishing scam on: May 16, 2016, 07:45:09 AM
Can we report these fake sites to Google for phishing? Because the top one in the search results is a phishing site disguised as the Blockchain official website and is using Google Ads to rank high. I think this poses a risk to users who are trying to log in to their Blockchain wallets in a hurry and can click on these sites instead. This is like the oldest trick in the books - just change the position of 2 adjacent letters and half of people won't notice.
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who creates there bitcoin wallet with real info? on: May 15, 2016, 09:56:03 PM
Coinbase is not a wallet, it's an exchange.

No, it's both. And it's widely used as free online wallet. Wink

Well technically every Bitcoin exchange is also a Bitcoin wallet because for it to be able to hold customers' coins for trading it needs to function like a normal Bitcoin wallet as well. Now common Bitcoin wallets like the Blockchain one doesn't offer any fiat trading built-in so they don't need any of your personal identification documents while Coinbase do because the law requires them to. Personally if I am not buying or withdrawing Bitcoin to fiat there is no point in compromising my privacy for the privilege of using Coinbase as a 'free wallet' when I can use other wallets with only an email address and a password needed.
308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is it to store your bitcoins on a mobile phone? on: May 15, 2016, 09:38:56 PM
Well it makes no sense to back up your private keys on your phone because you can lose it or it can get stolen or it can simply stop functioning and your coins will be lost forever. I would suggest using a mobile Bitcoin wallet that can spend from cold storage like Mycelium. You have to create a paper wallet that will hold the majority of your Bitcoins. Then when in need you will be able to dip into that stash and spend coins from there and it will be safe because the data only exists in your phone's RAM memory and after the transaction is complete all the tracks will be erased. So in this way you will have a very safe cold storage at home and a phone that can act as a credit card of sorts to your cold storage.
309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My computer have just been hacked for BITCOIN ransom! on: May 15, 2016, 09:28:47 PM
I think you ought not let your brother use your computer anymore.   Not sure how that hacking works--did they steal files or bitcoin?

I think ransomware is when your system's hard drive gets encrypted by a malicious program or script and next time upon boot you can't get access to any of your files. Then a window pops up that tells you that the whole computer is locked down and you need to send a predetermined amount of Bitcoins to the hackers' wallet address. Then they will release a decryption key so that you will be able to get back your stuff which is being held for ransom on your own machine thus the name ransomware. Honestly I don't know if any of your stuff is uploaded to the hackers before the encryption commences but it won't be a surprise if it is when they can simply double dip by doing this.
310  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is the best future currency? on: May 15, 2016, 09:12:22 PM
If the value of Bitcoin keeps on constantly changing it doesn't make it automatically a better digital currency because people would not like it if they need to recalculate the worth of things every time they make a transaction throughout the day due to the volatility of Bitcoin. The best future currency in my opinion must be stable and fast without waiting for many confirmations. Bitcoin is perhaps the first version or the foundation if you will for future digital currencies. Only time will tell what will be the one to conquer the world. It might be Bitcoin who knows  Cheesy
311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is it to store your bitcoins on a mobile phone? on: May 13, 2016, 04:28:52 PM
I use a mobile Bitcoin wallet on my smartphone because it's very convenient to have some Bitcoins at hand when you are out and about and want to purchase something in a hurry, you can just take your smartphone out of the pocket and make the transaction. Also being able to scan QR codes is very useful because you don't need to write and making a mistake while typing is avoided. But I don't recommend storing all your Bitcoins on your phone. Just put whatever amount you need to do your daily business and put everything else in a cold storage.
312  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: To Gamble or To Invest? on: May 13, 2016, 02:13:16 PM
If I were you I would hold that Bitcoin and wait for the price to increase. There is a chance that it may double triple or even quadruple in value if speculators do a massive pump so you would get even more profit than investing it in a casino's bankroll for low percentage. I would not recommend gambling because even though it can yield the highest profit one can lose everything in a bad run easily.
313  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you Rich from Gambling? on: May 13, 2016, 01:29:10 PM
I have not amassed any wealth from gambling nor have I lost a lot either. I can classify myself as a break-even bettor who plays for entertainment and not for profit. I know people who have won a lot from sportsbetting but I am not jealous. Because the more important question is not how much you have won but how much you have lost until you have won anything substantial.
314  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin to be international currency on: May 13, 2016, 01:09:24 PM
Bitcoin is already an international currency and everyone in the world can use it if they wish with the exception of the few countries where it's banned as of now by the government. At present we need to exchange Bitcoin for fiat if we want to use the local currency of the country where we are located in, but I hope in the future Bitcoin will become like a legitimate second currency to fiat and all the prices in offline shops will be listed with both the fiat and Bitcoin values. I don't think Bitcoin will replace fiat but it will be a nice alternative to it. Of course for online purchases Bitcoin is truly a global digital currency.
315  Economy / Economics / Re: Can we Manipulate Bitcoin price? on: May 13, 2016, 12:59:38 PM
To influence the price of Bitcoin at current market capitalisation we would need all the Bitcoin whales who frequent the Bitcointalk forums and even such pooled together resources may not be enough to move the price. However it's very easy to achieve such price manipulation of alt coins and the potential for profit is even bigger than Bitcoin. Find a recently launched alt coin, pump and dump, rinse and repeat with the next one. Profit Wink
316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 291.2409 BTC for a 0.0001 BTC transaction . on: May 13, 2016, 12:42:44 PM
I would guess BitClub decided to donate one half of the bounty to the Bitcoin Foundation to appease the Bitcoin community so as to not start an uprising against them and the other half they will keep to themselves. Maybe BitClub will spread some 45 Bitcoins among their shareholders and the remaining 100 coins will go to the owners' personal Bitcoin wallet  Wink
317  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why arnt we seeing more bitcoin ATM popping up? on: May 13, 2016, 12:31:22 PM
Bitcoin ATMs always seemed like an oxymoron to me, it's a digital currency you can use on your phone, your phone IS an ATM practically.

But an ATM machine turns your digital currency to paper money and vice versa. I don't know what phone you are using but I can't just print banknotes off my phone or feed it banknotes and receive Bitcoins on the other end  Grin Credit cards and PayPal and Neteller etc. are digital currencies too but people use them to withdraw cash when in need so there is a demand for that. By the way the balance on your bank account is just numbers in digital format, they don't keep paper bills ready for you in a box somewhere equivalent to your funds.
318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I never spent any savings on Bitcoin and I'm not broke on: May 13, 2016, 10:16:16 AM
I remember when Mt. Gox filed for bankruptcy a lot of people who had emptied their bank accounts and invested the fiat in Bitcoins were screwed. There were some pictures of people from Europe who flew over to Japan to protest in front of the Mt.Gox office because they lost their life savings and went broke. My advice is to never put all of your eggs in 1 basket and diversify your investments wisely.
319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The war in Bitcoin community on: May 13, 2016, 10:03:37 AM
I don't think we will ever know what the real motives behind Craig Wright's actions were unless we ask him directly or some of his close friends who might have been let in on the plan. My theory is that Craig either tried to discredit Bitcoin or tried to gain the favor of the Bitcoin core team devs. Well he ended up being a con artist so this page is now closed I guess.
320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS basically DESTROYED on: May 13, 2016, 09:53:35 AM
Hey guys I have a question that just popped up in my mind. What if the price of Bitcoin doesn't increase much after the halving and with the cut in half block rewards and increasing difficulty, do you think the Chinese miners will go bankrupt or they will manage to break even and get a slight profit? Can the Chinese government offer the mining farms preferential electricity pricing lower than the average for the country?
