301  Other / Off-topic / Playstation 3 Killzone Helghast Engraving on: July 03, 2013, 10:30:16 PM
A few days ago I decided it would be a fun project to custom engrave my Playstation 3. I want to share this project to those of you who are interested in gaming Smiley. The design in hand engraved, this is also my first attempt although I have lots more items on my to do list. This includes knives, swords and also general electronics. This custom PS3 will be on Ebay UK over the new few days and I plan on custom engraving items on request too. I hope you like the design and feel free to offer suggestions on items I should work on in the future. Smiley

Considering there are now dozens of disposable alt-coins I figured it might be difficult for new alt-coin "developers" to think up new names. So lets help them. Here are my ideas for the next new altcoins, feel free to use the names if you wish. I am sure there are far better ideas, I just thought this would be a fun thread lol so share your suggestions.  Grin

305  Other / Beginners & Help / BTC for Comments on: June 30, 2013, 03:22:33 PM
Over the last month or so the only comments on my site have been from spammers, I have implemented a new comment system plus anti-spam plugins to combat this. I would now like to test the system to make sure users are able to leave comments, plus hopefully some initial responses will also encourage new visitors to leave comments too. You can leave comments using your prefered social networks if you wish so you don't have to register, plus if you reply to another comment someone else posted that will also be counted providing you keep to the rules. I want genuine responses, questions and thoughts on what I have created, chose whatever interests you. Smiley

Username:
Post the username you use, either in this thread or PM. Without this info I will not send any BTC as you might just be spamming the thread.

(I will delete and not count comments that go against the rules)
Rules:
English Only
No links
No spam
No Bitcoin addresses
Keep comments relevant and genuine
1 Sentence minimum

Earnings:
5 - 9 comments = 0.005BTC
10 - 14 comments = 0.01BTC
15+ comments = 0.0175BTC
I will payout extra if I feel your comments were in-depth and constructive.

Payout:
07th June

When will payouts stop?
It depends how much comments people leave, I plan on paying out op to 0.5BTC in total.  Also to keep updated with new giveaways, updates and offers feel free to subscribe to my newsletter.

Thanks for all the advice, I never considered the fact that plugins pointing to other sites could be an issue. I am changing the old image optimizer and I will be trying out smushit which will hopefully improve the file size. I did try out some speed tests knocking the speed down from 15 seconds a few days ago, I guess there is still plenty of room for optimization so an upgrade might not be needed. Cheesy
307  Other / Off-topic / Re: Cloud Vs. Dedicated Server - Web hosting advice? on: June 29, 2013, 06:16:28 PM
I don't think your problem is actually the web hosting. I looked at your site, and your sending a lot of images, maybe you want to invest in a CDN. Also you may want memcache if that isn't installed that would help. You can probably stay on the same hardware and just make some software tweaks and be blazing fast, cause your site is actually fast, the images are slow.

I was under the impression they were highly optimized, I save for web in Photoshop at around 80% then they are further optimized with a plugin. Any recommendations on a image around 900x500px? Also I will check out memcache, thanks.

I prefer dedicated, I use linode - they've always done right by me.
I use a CentOS 64-bit image.

Do these price plans look fair? I am sure prices I was looking at before were cheaper but after finding some info on my hosts packages it seems these are the prices available unless I switch host. I am curious how much of a speed increase I could potentially get with these plans. Also does speed decrease the more addon domains that are hosted? In contrast to the VPS standard package, I could host 2 shared packages and perhaps see better speeds than if were to use the VPS standard?

VPS Hosting
Features   Standard   Enhanced   Premium   Ultimate
Monthly Price   £19.74   £39.48   £59.22   £78.96

6 Month Term   £17.76   £35.53   £52.64   £78.96
12 Month Term   £16.45   £32.90   £49.35   £78.96

Dedicated Hosting

309  Other / Off-topic / Cloud Vs. Dedicated Server - Web hosting advice? on: June 29, 2013, 05:39:06 PM
I currently have about 5 websites, all of which are now running Wordpress to save time managing the content. The problem is my main site is awfully slow which I feel will impact my SEO and visitor interaction. I am using quite a few plugins however most of which I consider essentials, for instance backup, caching & anti spam and so on. I feel that my current web hosting plan is not up to scratch and I would like to consider my options for an upgrade. Any advice speeding up my sites? (please no affiliate links)

This is the main site which is really slow.

My current web hosting plan:
Company: Justhost
Server: Shared
Cost: £6.99 per month
Domains: 1 Parked & 4 Addon (.com's & .co.uk's)
Bandwidth: Unlimited

My last renewal was £100.66 inc VAT which seems like a lot.

Bitcoin starter does have potential, the only problem right now is there is probably not enough of a "crowd" yet.
314  Economy / Currency exchange / [WTS] 2 Bitcoins - UKBT - £145 on: June 25, 2013, 11:52:20 AM
I would like to sell 2 Bitcoins via UK bank transfer. All my previous sales have been without Escrow and buyer paying first, all transactions have been swift and without a hitch. There is also no room for negotiation on the price which I feel is great value for UK buyers interesting in picking up some quick, cheap BTC. PM me if your are interested, ideally you will be ready to conduct the transaction at point on contact, I would also ask that the transaction process is also made public in this thread too after my details are sent over.
315  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: veteranBtc, RTaki Scam (& majinx) on: June 25, 2013, 12:54:32 AM
All I can say is he is a thief, he has lied to everyone in this thread and he will most likely scam again. I would not deal with him again regardless of the offer and I would advice you to do the same. Don't rush into deals when there is risk involved, that is the fastest route towards getting scammed lol.

317  Economy / Currency exchange / WTS 2 Bitcoins for £150 - UK Bank Transfer on: June 24, 2013, 04:28:16 PM
As the title suggests, I would like to offer 2 Bitcoin for £150. We can do Escrow however I would ask that you pay the fee's if you wish to use that option. All my previous sales have been successful without Escrow and I have always paid second too so the transaction will go smoothly regardless of whether we use an Escrow service. Feel free to PM me if you are interested, I would like to keep the transaction process public too once I have passed over the initial bank transfer details. No negotiation requests as the current price is already lower than I would like to sell at the moment.
318  Other / Meta / Re: New Idea: Newbie test on: June 20, 2013, 11:12:01 AM
OP I don't get what your newbie test idea is, but if it is to do with full fulling those steps I don't think it is a good idea.

Personally, I think changing the process is pointless.

The reason for the newbie jail is to work out who has the patience and commitment to go through to the end, if you don't, then there is a question of long term commitment

I got through the process in less than a day, and I spent it reading all the posts I could get access to.
This increased my understanding of bitcoin, and meant I didn't ask too many stupid questions later.

Try it, you might like it!

Wink

no i did the same thing. i'm just saying before newbs even get to post in newbies, they should have to take a test.

We would lose a lot of people. Especially people who have problems with reading or concentrating. I don't think a 'test' is needed. It doesn't prove anything. They can just copy and paste. Which means they may not even read it anyway. Use the find function and blam!
At least the system now tests how dedicated they are.
To be honest, if I were a newbie a test would piss me off. I had enough of that in my college...lol

Yeah I hate when I visit a forum and people expect me to read and concentrate.

It depends on what kind of test, I just don't feel the list of steps would not work as a test for newbies. Perhaps a general multiple choice test asking basic questions like "Which of these options best describes the blockchain?". If they don't know the answer provide a link so then can get a brief understanding, this kind of test could just reduce the time waiting as opposed to being compulsory to join the forum. To be honest people would likely post answers up online anyway so it won't stop spammers either.

320  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: veteranBtc, RTaki Scam (& majinx) on: June 16, 2013, 08:16:53 PM
I see that veteranBTC is active on the forums once again after running away with your money. Just wondering if you ever got it back? If not he should really get a scammer tag.
It's normal to be active on this forum because I am not a scammer as he says.
I've paid him back! Maybe he is just trying to "ruin" people's accounts and for small amounts of bitcoins.

You did not pay me back, post up the transaction Id! It is clear that you went offline during the trade, don't think the mods are stupid. You are a scammer and I feel sorry for anyone who attempts a trade with you in the future. Your idea of ruining peoples account for Bitcoin is stupid, I have done numerous deals with larger amounts, without escrow and the buyer paying first.

You are the only scammer in my transaction history, lets hope you are also the last. I expect you have tried contacting me with other scam accounts too.

@Dougie
Thanks Dougie for pointing this out, I assumed he would have a scammer tag by now, maybe the mods missed my post?
WTF? A scammer tag for what?. You sent me a PM that your repayment address is wrong, remember?
The loan was 1 bitcoin for 1,5 back. I've paid the loan, but now he ask for another 1.5 WTF?
I don't have any transaction ID because I've changed all my accounts!
Also, I don't have any business with users you've said.

Both you and RTaki both disappeared after my end of the transaction. Maybe you two are disconnected but 'veteranBtc' you are a scammer. You are lying to the forums about any PM's suggesting I provided a wrong address. I think forum members can already see your excuses are fabricated.
