It might be "overkill" but, I would suggest that the best way to introduce people outside the crypto world aside from the previous link suggestion, would be to set up a special site just for purchasing dnotes for online digital commerce through the app. Nothing complicated, just a page within the vault structure where they could buy Note without an exchange that would automatically create a special "on line commerce" Dnotes Vault account for them and send their login info to them via email or other method.
Three simple steps, create their account, get a login and password and accept either a Credit Card, PayPal or, Bitcoin payment for the dnotes. At this point, the user hasn't been dragged outside their comfort zone very far and they are more likely to buy online where Dnotes is accepted.
At least for now, don't charge anything over and above the current exchange rate for the DNotes to maintain that account. Perhaps, after some predetermined time period, an automatic trigger that will allow them, sometime in the future, to upgrade to a full Vault account and it's a done deal.
You could also point them to educational material on crypto in general.

Unfortunately, there are legal challenges in the sale of digital currency for cash or fiat currency that requires licensing from many jurisdictions. Additionally, there are many practical limitations when micro-payments are involved – the conversion and transaction fees are prohibitively higher than the sale price of the item. Well now anybody who uses wordpress can easily sell products for DNotes too, which is super handy. I'm sure we will soon be collating lists of online stores that accept DNotes for payment. As our software suite expands, we will be able to integrate all kinds of other automated steps into the process. For example when our exchange and bank are deployed, we could see DNotes paid to the merchant, then automatically exchanged for the merchants local currency, and sent to their bank account. This would make DNotes a preferred means of international trade for merchants that want to operate in fiat money -- which will make DNotes a competitor for global payments.

Several tickets all with the same response basically, be patient we are working on it. Well, I am patient and, I realize things go wrong but, this should have been done in a day not a week and counting. If anyone from Mercatox reads here, please see what you can find out, I've already lost a ton of money and THAT does not make me happy. Thanks... It did show maintenance, blocking both deposits and withdrawals, now it shows not available on the withdrawal side. Ok, so not just me. That's all I was really worried about although it would be nice if they fixed it! |

I am quite sure that most that read these forums have no idea about clif high. As an avid reader of his works for about a decade, I will include some content from his most recent ALTA_2018_JulyCrypto.pdf so that the average reader can garner some context: data sets...are suggesting that a 'failure' within their 'governance model' will produce both 'discord' and (internal) contention' at levels that will 'threaten dissolution' of the 'effort.'

For anyone in the community, just want to back this up. Having raised VC myself, I can say that it is a stressful, time-consuming, energy-sapping business activity. Patience is absolutely the watchword. I don't envy the job Alan and team have ahead of them. Raising capital is just painstakingly not-fun. Amen to that, been there as well. I admire the DNotes team for sticking to their guns and doing this through traditional channels. Don't get me wrong, I love most things about crypto but, the ICO stage isn't quite set and basically, anything could go wrong taking that uncertain route. Ok, so I'm about to take back what I said about liking Mercatox! Wallet is STILL down, my coins are still trapped doing nothing when they could be making interest. This is getting old! Just venting...  Understand, it seems as though it's causing some negative pressure there as well. All we can do for now is open another ticket. I'm right there with you, R-J-F. I have a significant amount of DNotes trapped on Mercatox that I really wish were in my wallet. This is day 5 of the wallet being down. My last withdrawal was on July 6. I can't think of a reason for a wallet maintenance to take this long. The 2.0 block chain is not that big yet, so wouldn't take more than a few hours to download, and there was no mandatory wallet update handed down by the development team. I'm sure if they were having technical issues our devs would be more than happy to assist, but they haven't reached out. I've pestered them with plenty of support tickets and all they say is wait for us to post it on our news page. It should go without saying that any kind of maintenance that lasts this long ought to be accompanied by very transparent at least daily progress reports. Hate to say it but, seems like something other than "maintenance" may be going on. This is the kind of situation that hurts exchanges and strains the credibility of the system in general. If it were truly a wallet issue, what technical "issue" could be serious enough to keep a wallet out of service for 5 days especially with a comparatively short Blockchain? Seriously, I can't think of one. Just like you, I have a rather large sum waiting there to go to my Vault and I don't mind saying it is making me nervous. So, we sit, we wait, some of us drink, others don't, and value drops but, I'll tell you what, I will be very leery of moving any sizable amount of coin through them in the future unless they can demonstrate, in some meaningful way, that this won't be a regular occurence. Shame... PS: Checked just now, a significant number of wallets appear to be in "Maintenance" Interesting, don't know if there is a correlation there but might help to understand what is going on... |

PoS phase to come for DNotes community. Personally, I would prefer crypto projects which have PoS because I can earn passive income by staking my coins. Now that DNotes is POS, it changes the game quite a bit. NOTE moves from the energy intensive camp to the efficient side where folks can make money supporting the network without hurting the environment to do it. Mining was an incredible invention when it appeared in Bitcoin but, it's time is limited now that more efficient ways to verify transactions like POS are becoming commonplace. |
