The last time I saw the Croat / Serb border it was all land mines and snipers. I'd be careful digging in your garden in Liberland.

You know what?  I don't mind a prison where people don't suffer so much.

If you can keep them separate from the population they'd otherwise prey on, and not fuck them up so badly that they can never rejoin civilization again, I'd say you're doing your job.

The problem with treating prisoners badly is that you make them harder and nastier and more out-of-step with your civilian society than they were to start with.  You fuck them up so badly that releasing them doesn't work all that well.

I agree. When we hear about criminal acts we often want vengeance and blood. We want the bad guy to suffer. If only that made them repent. In fact it turns prison into finishing school for criminals. This is not a problem if the offender is a child killing axe murderer. But most crimes are not that bad and it may be better to try bringing petty criminals into the fold of society. Even though it is not as satisfying as torturing them in a cage.
3083  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What real world situation have you had problems due to 10 minute confirmation? on: May 11, 2015, 03:45:09 PM
Yeah, there's this misconception about Bitcoin where some people think they have to wait 10 minutes after buying a cup of coffee with Bitcoin so it shows up on the blockchain as confirmed, because unless it shows up they aren't fully calm about it. What they don't seem to get is credit cards dont confirm instantly, yet everyone uses it.
I would only wait for the full confirmation if I was buying something big like a car, otherwise it's pointless to wait, you just treat it like a mundane credit card transaction.

I think your right. And the credit card example is apt. In fact when you use your card at McDonald's there is no way possible to determine if the transaction is fraudulent. They take the card anyway because it is not cost effective to steal credit cards to pay for a hamburger. Nor is it worth the extreme measure of launching a double spend for that burger.

Can Any one tell me
Why Islam is fastest GROWING RELIGION?
10% of Europe will be Muslim in around 30 years?

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/02/muslim-population-growth-christians-religion-pew
My best guess.
Islam is the most modern religion in many ways. In the last 2000 years there has been a shift toward more power for the individual. It has led to a spread of democracy and a movement away from dogmatic religion. Islam does not have priests, just people and God. Prior to the Romanization of Christianity it was also a liberation theocracy. I wonder if it was supplanted because of the addition of official state dogma by the Romans and the following kings of Europe.
3085  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Atheists hate Religion ? on: May 11, 2015, 03:08:02 PM
Also why do Christians hate dogs? My former neighbor was a Christian dog hater, classic. Why all the hate for dogs?

I know of Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Parsi and atheists also who hate dogs.

They hate dogs as they can't bear animals to be innocent and good in heart as they can never be good at heart. They hate dogs as dogs don't have a mind to think evil unlike them. They hate dogs because they love nobody except themselves.  Smiley

Ah, so what your saying is that we are all capable of great love and hate because that is what humans can do? And just as only some Christians hate dogs, some atheists see religion as a positive social force?  Makes sense to me.

The link below shows images of modern bitcoin mines:

As you can see it will be a huge investment in infrastructure. The days of using a home computer are years behind us now.
3088  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2015-05-11 The Washington Post - Liberland’s leader detained on: May 11, 2015, 02:45:32 PM
Creates his own country
Gets arrested stepping foot in it.

That's funny. I don't understand why he was arrested though. How can it be trespassing? Aren't people free to go there? It's just a forest by the sounds of things.

His country was already a country. Of course its trespassing.
3089  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What real world situation have you had problems due to 10 minute confirmation? on: May 11, 2015, 02:38:38 PM
Never once has this been an issue for me.
3090  Other / Off-topic / Re: A Christian's response to the Evil found in the Bible on: May 07, 2015, 08:53:10 PM
The Bible is not evil. It is full of practical advice on things like raising kids.

Quote
“This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear of it and fear.

3091  Other / Politics & Society / Re: U.S. NSA domestic phone spying program illegal: appeals court on: May 07, 2015, 08:39:32 PM
It's clearly illegal. Which is why I do not cooperate and can even take measures to protect myself and others from the NSA. Their decision to do this is one of the stupidest mistakes in espionage. They have lost the support of America and deserve only our honeypots, roadblocks, and deception.

3094  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is trying to kill Bitcoin? on: May 07, 2015, 04:22:22 PM
The thing is, there is no evidence that the government has any interest whatsoever in hurting bitcoin. This forum is bat shit crazy when it comes to conspiracy theories. But no one ever presents any evidence or even a logical reason for their theories.
3095  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Convert BTC to GBP and transfer to UK Bank Acct on: May 07, 2015, 03:27:21 PM
I found this:
Quote
There are two ways to buy bitcoin via Circle: by linking your bank account or by using a credit or debit card. Bank accounts in the UK can't be linked for now, but debit and credit cards are working. You will get a warning that the UK isn't supported but ignore it and you can add your details.

Here:

I thought I read elsewhere that they will eventually have both options in the UK.

3097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is trying to kill Bitcoin? on: May 07, 2015, 02:39:11 PM
The answer may be simpler that you think. News companies and mass media in general need earn money and be watched to exist.  And what kind of news are the easiest to sell? Of course, disasters, murders, terrorists attacks, school massacres and on top of that they found new great topic - awesome new technology - Bitcoin turns evil. It is easiest to show bitcoin in negative light, media will will find even small cases of crooked people using bitcoin and made it look like total crime and bitcoin will be viewed as a tool of satan.
That is what I think also. bitcoin is really not very interesting. But dark nets, underground drug markets, international criminal empires, terrorists. Now those words get hits! No one is trying to kill bitcoin, they are trying to make money. Who wants to read about monetary policy or fractional reserve banking?
The news could also turn unrealistically optimistic in a few months. If there were a narrative that was sexy and painted bitcoin in a good light they would go for that as quickly.
