2321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why you mostly like bitcoin compare to other digital currency? on: October 14, 2015, 03:26:40 PM
In my opinion there is only bitcoin and pale pretenders. I am only interested in the original idea.
2322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Bitcoin was a worst decision of my life on: October 13, 2015, 05:39:30 PM
I have never bought weed with my coins...
Me either.
People who are not bitcoin users always think that it is for weed and guns on the "darknet". They just pick the use case that is most shocking and go with that. No one ever talks about how I buy socks with my bitcoin, but I do.

Apart from that bitcoin's 2 most widely legal use would be: gambling & porn.

I think we need a PR team to emphasize on that, otherwise the media will demonize bitcoin further.

lol, Since it is an obvious use case that may well be true. But I have never bought those either. I buy the same stuff I used to buy with a credit card. The last things I bought were kitchen cabinet pulls and a camera bag. Not very interesting compared to drugs, porn, and gambling.

They killed thousands of young, unarmed protesters with tanks. Business friendly? WTF?

Ohh. Please, put here the font of such precious fake news.

If you live in under a totalitarian regime how would you know? Estimates range as low as 600-800 or as high as 10,000. And no one knows how many were rounded up later and murdered by the government. The most disturbing thing I remember from the protests was when a tank rolled up and a guy poped out. Everyone was worried he might shoot them but were relieved when he just produced a camera. A moment later you could see everyone realize that the camera was just as deadly for them, so they ran.

2324  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are Genetically Modified Organisms in 80+% of US foods making us sick? on: October 13, 2015, 05:04:37 PM
This is a tricky scientific question. While one can envision how a GMO could produce chemicals that are unhealthy, or even poisonous, there is no evidence of this happening. We now know enough about DNA to create new species or combinations of species. In America the corn we eat is part corn, part caterpillar, part bacteria, etc. In the future I suspect we will eat more plants and animals that we create than ones nature created. This really should be studied more because as we create new genes there is a risk of them getting into the wild and.... well, no one knows what will happen then.
2325  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin the future of online gambling? on: October 13, 2015, 04:47:55 PM
I would ask... How could it not be the future of online gambling? Psudo-anonymous, digital, universal money. Yes it will be.
2326  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China asks world to impose 'code of conduct' on Internet on: October 13, 2015, 04:45:12 PM

Fake?
I have read that that image is virtually unknown in China.

On this picture i see actions of legitimate government on stabilisation of normal business friendly life. This dude run away as alive.

That is a scary statement. They killed thousands of young, unarmed protesters with tanks. Business friendly? WTF?

I thought it was an air-to-air missile? Don't change propaganda mid stream, it looks even less believable.

How about a code of conduct with harsh penalties for governments who spy on us? If not then I prefer we hack the planet and leave no one in control of anything.

1) How do people think that bitcoin is actually anonymous? You would have to buy them with your debit card/credit card in which banks have your information... why would you think that this stuff is actually anonymous and could be used in such a way?
You can obtain bitcoin in many anonymous ways such as in person sales, mining, selling items for BTC. Banks are only part of the process if you include them.
Quote
2) How many people develop bitcoin? If it's a decentralized currency then if these people control how the currency works, how would that make it decentralized?
Bitcoin is open source and anyone in the world is free to work on it. Which fork is chosen to be the "real" bitcoin is a consensus process that is out of any one entities control. The developers have no more control over bitcoin than you or I.
Quote
3) If it is a currency that can be used in a sort of anonymous way, then how can governments regulate it in a way to make sure that people aren't funding bad organizations like ISIS and drug lords?  "Harpua" has told me about what silk road was and the way the darknet markets work, but how can this be prevented?
Maybe they can't? That is not my problem. Software does not have to include the ability for a government agency to invade our privacy. Many of us do not want them to track us because it is unethical, unsafe and unAmerican.  Wink Not to mention that only a few of us live in America.

4) My dad works in a government facility where he deals with high clearance documents in a high security facility.  His organization has just been recently hacked by the Chinese government and lost dozens of top secret information including SS#'s, locations of the homes of workers, basically any personal information about the workers of his business and his families (which includes me). How can cryptocurrencies ever be a secure enough form of transactions where governments and top notch hackers can't just find a way to hack into the blockchain database?
The government's "security" is a joke. Which is why it is unsafe for them to maintain files on us. As per your example: they can not retain that data and so should not be allowed to get it. Bitcoin was invented by people who do not believe in the idea of trust. The protocol does not tie identity to money the way all other systems do, so there is nothing to hack. All transactions are public, all code is open source, no data about identity is included.*

* Of course some ways of using bitcoin can lead back to you if a clever and persistent person tries. But this does not lead to your money, just to clues about who might have sent money from a given address.

2332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel about the negative reputation of the bitcoin currency? on: October 12, 2015, 06:35:25 PM

2335  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many bitcoins do you have to sell to make a living? on: October 12, 2015, 05:35:38 PM
I live off of bitcoin, but I have never sold one. I don't get this question? It's like asking how many Euros do you need to sell to make a living.
2336  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Any way to buy bitcoin via paypal? on: October 12, 2015, 05:30:40 PM
It's pretty hard to get bitcoin for an everyday average person that is new to it. Developers need to figure out a way people can use paypal easily.
I'm not sure what developers you mean. PayPal is a private for profit business that stand to lose more than most any other company as bitcoin expands. They offer the same utility as bitcoin except that it costs way more and can be trusted way less. PayPal not only has no interest in seeing bitcoin catch on, it hurts them. PayPal's developers are not going to work on this until they have no choice.

Bitcoin's developers work on a computer protocol that can be used by anyone who wants to use it. It could be a business or a just a person. It is up to the user (institutional or otherwise) to fit it into their business.

So far this has been difficult because many laws have been added to keep the "little man" out of the money. For example: many use cases for bitcoin require a money service licenses in each state. Some states charge millions of dollars for this. You may think that America is a capitalist system, but in fact often the markets are not free and are gamed by large banks.
2337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying Bitcoin was a worst decision of my life on: October 12, 2015, 05:06:15 PM
Sorry to hear about your disappointment. Sounds like you made a classic bitcoin mistake and thought of it as an "investment" of some sort. Bitcoin is money and that is all. If you had bought some then spent it in a purchase, you would have seen that bitcoin is the fastest, safest, and cheapest way to send money. The idea of using it as investment vehicle was never part of the white paper and, while you can treat it as an investment, it is very poor choice.

Again bitcoin is money. If you gamble it away, lose it without backing up, join a scam, or lose it investing; that is not a bitcoin problem. Just spend it and you will see what all the talk is about.

As an EMT I have treated bullet wounds and that looks like a bullet wound to me.  Huh
It's also in the wrong place for a belly button, which are found on the belly. That hole is just inferior of the intercostal arch, over the liver.  Bet it hurt like hell.
2339  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's your opinion of gun control? on: October 09, 2015, 05:35:24 PM

Armed guards protect Senate Democrats as they demand new gun-control laws

The irony of this is un-ignorable. Powerful people guarded by weapons I could not legally posses are telling me that I would be safer without the guns I can have.
Way to lead by example.   Roll Eyes
2340  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it a good long term investment to buy 1 BTC today? on: October 09, 2015, 05:25:24 PM
A better thing to do is buy a bitcoin then go shopping online. Once you see that it is safer, faster, and cheaper than any other method you will be able to make your own determination of bitcoins future success. Without using it I don't see how anyone would understand it well.
