Just when you don't think Bitcointalk can get any more stupid, enter Voodoo.
Now if only there were open Scientologists around here...
toppest of keks.
Yeah right. Everyone knows zombies aren't real. We only think they are real because of the evil influence of the werewolves.

I'm sorry, but I do not believe even the Democrats are stupid and partisan enough to ...
I'm going to refer to this quote whenever someone asks me "what is irony?"

Religion is not peaceful. Religion says that we are divided and that, because God is a super being, you are absolutely wrong to believe otherwise. It does not matter what God your talking about.

I suspect it will work about as well as the ban on porn. Remember when *everyone wanted to ban porn on the internet? The law gave up on that years ago and now only go after child porn and horrible stuff like that. If you really enforced the laws on the books you might be shocked at how many places it is illegal to see a photo of someone getting a BJ.

I like it when a newbie says he wants to buy $500k worth of BTC. Really smart guy. A guy with balls obviously. I just wonder why he hasn't came back to tell us what he thinks of all the suggestions given above.
I assume this is not real. People who have a half million to put somewhere do not ask on some online forum. If you were that dumb you would not have the money in the first place. If this was legit, he/she would start by hiring a consultant. There is just too much money on the line here to learn as you go.

How the fuck would Snowden know? He is basically under house arrest in a country that is hostile to bitcoin. What, you mean a 32 year old, career long IT surveillance specialist, who no doubt studied cryptography before he was out of college? That's the last type of person I'd rely on to understand bitcoin, sure Yet he talks about a 51% attack like a nubie. It looks like he read for about an hour and started bla-bla-bla-ing.

has everyone gone apeshit crazy lately? Noone can think straight. The gov't and bankers given us drugs that make us stupid? What the hell?
No kidding. I was stupid to start with and I understand how crazy this is. I'm about as threatened by this as by MintChip.

Yeah, let's all launch our nukes and see how many "winners" there are.

I remember this discussion from 2011. Many people had charts "proving" that bitcoin could never reach $1. We have come a long way baby.

Feb. 9, 2020.
As long as we are all clear that there is no real answer, I'll submit this date; freshly pulled from thin air.

Cool! Who handles your escrow?
Haven't found an escrow man as of yet. Any suggestions? There are a number of good escrow users here. I think anyone who has been here a while and has a high trust rating would work. And I think it is fair to demand that the buyer pay for escrow. The liability is on their end and so it is their insurance. I don't have a trip pending right now, but I would consider using your service. Cheers!

Camparing Bitcoin to the internet? Can't blame ya, always good for a laugh! If you wanna force analogies to TCP/IP, it would be the blockchain, a technology freely available to everybody. Bitcoin is more like Prodigy or AOL, or pets.com -- shit built ON TOP of the blockcahin tech And Betamax isn't dead, as long as there are a couple of Betamax zealots trading tapes. Which is why I never suggest that bitcoin will die. I see a great deal of similarity between the IP and BTC protocols. Both are base code that can be built upon and integrated by businesses. I see no resemblance between BTC and the companies who adopted the early internet protocol. BitPay or an exchange would be a real analog with something like AOL. I see that you are very new to bitcoin and it can get confusing. For an explanation of protocols you may want to read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_ProtocolAnd to learn more about bitcoin you may want to read Satoshi's white paper linked below in my sig.

Not to be a wet blanket, but you should be wary of any laundering site. Remember, these are criminals who could just walk off with your money and leave you no legal recourse. Those that have been around a while may be more trustworthy, but they have no insurance to offer if they are hacked or when some government confiscates their (your) bitcoins. These sites are also under very heavy scrutiny at the moment. A new generation of software has been released recently that makes it easier for law enforcement to untangle the mixing process. Bitcoin is no longer some unknown system.

Why waste time on people like that. I say use the ignore feature and move on.

Brilliant idea !
Oh, 4000 people already came up with it.
He meant if someone created another altcoin called bitcoin and made everything the same. You mean... Go get the client code, build a coin with the wallet template, convince someone to download it and set it up, then sell them some of your alt that you have named BTC? A forgery BTC? It would be tricky to set up the victims, they would have to be 100% unfamiliar with BTC in general. But I suppose it could be done and someone will probably try it. And it would have to be a grand scheme. It would need it's own blockchain and peers running. It would only work on a victim who knows how to use bitcoin but has never used it before. They would have to see things like a 20MB blockchain and say "Ok, that looks good". A greater danger might be software that looks like a wallet but carries a standard payload of malware.

True there are lots of other crypt-currencies, however I think bitcoin has some advantages that keep it far out in front of the others.
1. First mover advantage. Bitcoin is a revolutionary idea and represents the first system to solve hard problems like double spending and the Byzantine generals problem. Being first has led to bitcoin growing into the largest distributed computing network in history. The other alt-coins are just copies of this idea and very few have anything else to offer.
2. Bitcoin simply better than most alts. Alt-coins tend to be created to serve a few people. They may be focused on more mining revenue or heavily pre-mined or more anonymous. These features may be compelling to some, but generally they hold back broad adoption. And of course many alts are just a joke. Bitcoin is a serious attempt vs. say doge coin, which is based on some guys cute dog.
3. Universality. Eventually we will see many banks and businesses trying to make their own coins. They would love to see customers buy their coin. A coin they control the distribution and valuation of. A coin that can be used at their outlets. In other words, a coupon. That has no appeal at all to me. Only bitcoin works worldwide and allows me to pay anyone anywhere in a way that is faster, cheaper, and more secure than any other method.
For an alt to succeed at beating bitcoin it is going to have to beat bitcoin at it's own game.

Well I will continue using it. If someone can second that, then we will know it will keep going. Anyone?
If you think that everything in use today will continue being used forever, you're in for a rude awakening. Haven't fired up my Betamax in quite a while, and even my Super8 projector is colecting dust Not talking about everything, just bitcoin. Betamax came out in 1975 and, as you point out, it's dead. However in 1974 something called "the internet protocol" came out and I use it more today than ever. I staying in.
Hoo-ah air cavalry! That makes two of us. So I think we are good.
