321  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Help with Grub boot menu on resume from power loss on: August 19, 2012, 04:33:39 AM
Easiest fix:  Uninterruptable Power Supply
Sure it may be the easiest, but now there is massive costs with UPS.
322  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed RPC linux/windows/osx/mip/r-pi 2.7.0 on: August 19, 2012, 04:08:35 AM
Still getting intensity pegging down to -10 on dynamic threads on win 7 x64.  At the same time, when it drops to -10, cgminer starts eating up a whole core of CPU power.   Undecided

This change happened sometime after 2.6.1.  Probably related to to the change in how cgminer handles dynamic intensity that was in 2.6.5, not 100% sure though since my update path was 2.6.1, 2.6.5, 2.7.0.  First saw it in 2.6.5.  Does not happen in 2.6.1.

Any GPU set to dynamic intensity will eventually peg to -10.  Sometimes very shortly after starting, sometimes after running for a while.  I have not yet been able to figure out what the trigger is.

Tested with a clean copy of 2.7.0 with no prefs file after a cold system reboot.
I can confirm the same bug with intensity pegging down to -10 on dynamic but in my instance without the high CPU usage.
I upgraded from 2.6.4 which didn't have the problem.

324  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Help with Grub boot menu on resume from power loss on: August 18, 2012, 05:30:29 PM
Sorry for the necropost... I was running into this issue and found a way to fix it.

I edited /etc/grub.d/00_header - look for the line a few pages down with timeout = -1  and change the -1 to something positive (I use 5), save the file, then run update-grub2.  That line tells grub to show the menu for whatever amount of time after an unexpected error.  -1 means show the menu till someone provides input.  My rigs are unattended, so I want them to boot no matter what.

The fsck after that is another story.  I have no work around for a machine that's stuck waiting for input at the fsck.  But you won't always have disk errors, so most of the time it will boot and resume mining if you've told it to do so.

Thank you for providing a solution, very much appreciated!
325  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jonathan Ryan Owens locked Rebate, Zip.A, Alberto & BDT thread on: August 17, 2012, 12:07:11 AM
Also, for those who aren't following the reddit threads, Alberto is Bitscalper

It's only suspicions. But it would be interesting to investigate that.
Alberto is indeed saying that he coded an arbitrage bot for Cartmell, but again, doesn't prove anything.

According to MrBitcoinZ on reddit, the codes are extremely similar. Would be nice to have both bitscalper & bitdaytrade leaked code to check

i could leak one of them or better yet, ask mining budy about the bitscalper code.
I haven't been keeping up to date with things recently around here but I've just come across this stuff on reddit which is making for an interesting read, especially these leaked emails.
I'm not interested in conspiracy theories or drama, but in my opinion and completely 110% pulled from my ass here I would probably say Alberto is bitscalper and that bitdaytrade uses some reference to bitscalper code, before we terminated contact he was working on multiple iterations of the bitscalper theme and wanted to launch them under my name which obviously never happened, he was working very rapidly on the code and bitdaytrade doesn't look a million miles away from the sneak peeks I got access to while in contact with him.

This is all bullshit and pulled from my ass so don't hold it as gospel truth, its purely my opinion based on what I've been reading for the past 1 hour only

329  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Intersango Incompetence (First Experience - Not Good) on: July 06, 2012, 06:35:01 PM
I had pretty much the exact same reaction by intersango and their staff when I tried to enquire about a delayed withdraw.
It is a shame because I have used them from time to time since they pretty much launched and the experience was always great.
I'm sorry to say they are now very unprofessional and hostile towards paying customers.

miningBuddy, You had better hope no one finds your real name.
And why would that be? I am not anon so finding my details is quite trivial.
334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 11, 2012, 03:44:23 PM

So, you are still not in control of Bitcoinica?
Then, tell us, who are the decision makers that will decide if customers get reimbursed, as Zhou Tong already pointed out that it would not be his decision but from someone else?

Interesting. I didn't know the organizational structure of Bitcoinica changed recently. If I were in charge, I would still reimburse the dude.

Same here. I think reimbursing is the right way to go, even if we are shutting down the business at a huge loss.
Huh Huh Huh

everything is lost ? no hope ?
Yes and yes.

Have the address(es) where the stolen coins were withdrawn to been published? I don't recall seeing anything. Presumably there was a single 1k+ transaction to the cracker's address.
Not yet, I'm working my way through the logs at the moment but I am running out of time before I have to leave and regex isn't my strong point. I will probably have a list uploaded soon though all the email addresses will just be simply removed until I have chance to look more into an expression that allows me to remove the text after the @ symbol, its getting late here and I have to be up early. - logs uploaded https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68862.msg893249#msg893249
337  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Announcement] Bitscalper under new management. on: May 10, 2012, 04:20:36 PM

When staff here thinks I don't want it out cuz it might compete with me then lulz fine post it. It's on his back.

We will see if he really has the balls to post it and the ability to deal with the repercussions.

Honestly I doubt he will post it, but I will take away my protest so that he can clear himself of his shame and ignorance by posting code he did not write.

Peace
I made the comment about competition in jest, hence the smiley, though I guess it didn't come across as intended so apologies if offence was caused.

I am thinking things over in regards to releasing the code and I would like to collect more opinions before making any decision though at the moment I can't see any positive effect releasing the code could have on the community. There is a huge barrier to entry with bots like this so chances of actually seeing a legit version out in the wild is very slim.
338  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Announcement] Bitscalper under new management. on: May 10, 2012, 02:15:51 PM
post the code.

do you want the code? i do not mind trusted members having it, but i don't think it should be public.
Afraid of competition?  Tongue
339  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Announcement] Bitscalper under new management. on: May 10, 2012, 01:54:54 PM
I won't be selling the code, at all.
I don't think you need me to explain why, but I couldn't live with myself doing something like that.

Holy shit, 700+ users from a few weeks of operation? People are fucking gullible.
Luckily most people had the common sense to only gamble what they could afford to loose should the site not be legit, unfortunately there were a few accounts with three digit figures in there  Undecided
